A member of Congress is shot by a lunatic gunman, and all of a
sudden you can't say "crosshairs" on CNN. Not to make light of a
tragedy, but had Rep. Giffords been hit in the face with a whipped
cream pie, would the Food Network have to go off the air?
What the Tucson shootings reveal about our political
culture is its gross opportunism, not its violent imagery. Six
people died in an attack on a freely elected member of our
republican government, and the left decided that the appropriate
response was to rip the nation apart by blaming the tragedy on the
right in general and Sarah Palin in particular.
The gravity of the situation on that awful Saturday was
perfectly obvious. This nation survives because we check our guns
at the ballot box. We have agreed to settle our political
disagreements with felt-tip pens and touch screen machines, not
weaponry. Giffords' shooting raised the specter of that agreement
unraveling. This wasn't a presidential assassination, an assault on
the human symbol of American power. It was a hit on a rank-and-file
representative, her staff, and her constituents. The target could
have been any one of us. If this were the tip of a domestic
political movement, it could, conceivably, portend civil
war.
Yet with this raw national wound still fresh, the left
reached for the biggest bag of salt it could find. Civility? It was
nowhere to be found among the chorus of "progressives" shrieking,
"Sarah Palin did it!" And when they were proven wrong -- when it
was revealed that the suspected shooter never watched political TV,
never listened to talk radio, and was a mentally disturbed loner
with no detectable political ideology -- they fell silent without
apology. Except for the ones who continue to debase themselves by
brazenly, shamelessly spreading the lie.
The only apology America got was from CNN anchor John
King, who semi-apologized this week for a guest's use of the term
"crosshairs" in a political context. "We're trying, we're trying to
get away from that language," King said. Why?
King's own CNN reported a week earlier (on Jan. 11),
"There's no evidence the heated political environment played any
role in the shooting spree that left Rep. Gabrielle Giffords in
critical condition and killed six others…"
If CNN itself reported that there is no link between
political rhetoric and the shooting, then why would CNN avoid using
generic military terminology when discussing politics?
There is no reason. There are only guilt and fear. Guilt
that one's use of a metaphor might have somehow contributed to a
lunatic's violent act, and fear that, if it didn't in the past, it
might in the future. So CNN tries to "get away from that
language."
Obviously, the executives haven't thought this through.
For what is to replace our common political terms derived from the
language of warfare? What do we say in place of "campaign,"
"target," "attack"?
If we scrub this terminology from our political lexicon,
we have to replace it with something.
Some suggestions for the CNN brass:
In place of "campaign": Peace caravan. "The Romney peace
caravan had no comment today on allegations…" Or: "An Obama peace
caravan spokesman said…."
In place of "target": Flower. "The AARP sent out a direct
mail piece flowering retirees…."
In place of "attack": Love tap. "Sen. Ringworm's peace
caravan today love tapped the president for suggesting a tax cut
for people who have voted in the last three federal
elections…."
In place of "sights" and "crosshairs": Rainbows. "Sarah
Palin today released a map with multi-colored rainbows over
congressional districts she wants conservatives to flower on
Election Day…." Or "There's no question Rep. Greasepalm is in the
Tea Party's rainbow…."
CNN will not replace those terms, of course. It will
simply "try" to avoid using them. It will fail. We use military
metaphors in politics for good reason -- they apply. They catch the
spirit of politics, which is a sublimation of conflict. Using
passive words to describe aggressive acts, or simply not describing
them at all, on the hope that the switch will reduce violence is a
fool's errand.
As such, only fools will pursue it.

As a woman, I'm sickened and saddened by what liberalism has
done to men. I should qualify that by saying "some men." Most women

keeps winning the day when political correctness (also known as

Not only are liberal men wussified, they are also mysogynists.
Look at the way these "men" joke about raping, punching or
otherwise harming Sarah Palin. I really believe that liberal men
see women in general as a castrating enemy and will do whatever it
takes to keep one (Hillary Clinton included) from ever reaching a
position of power, even when that woman is the best man for the
job. A liberal man will never stand up to an Islamic terrorist or
an intrusive government that seeks to steal what is left of his
individuality and freedom, but he will be happy to beat down a
woman.

I could not agree more. I do not watch much TV or DVDS but last
week under the weather and bored to tears I watched two DVDs the
only ones available. I am a bit ashamed to say that I watched Iron
Man II and Robin Hood.
In Iron Man the hero tycoon and creator of the suit that saved
the world is effeminate, speaks glibly, skipping from one subject
to another, is having emotional problems and is basically led by
the nose by a beautiful, extremely intelligent female red head who
obviously is a lot smarter than our male hero. It seems the hero
was always trying to get in touch with his inner child.
The second female, perhaps 21, sexy and intelligent, she has a
law degree, has probably devoted her life from age three to the
practice of an arcane martial art. In a fight scene while a man
fights it out for five minutes with a single opponent, and for the
most part getting the worst of it, our young lady beats, knocks out
or ties up in a cord suspended from the ceiling, about 10 men this,
with incredibly swift and camera assisted moves-- and without so
much as messing up her mascara or raising a bit of honest sweat.
She is like the female CEO, far superior to these pathetically
effeminate men.
Crowe plays Robin Hood and of course he does his share of
killing in a sort of passive way. He is so softly spoken and
passive one can hardly hear what he has to say. Lady Marion,
however, in an excellent character presentation I must say,
exhibited courage, defiance, and even such great swords play that
had the performance been given by a man he would be hailed for his
masculinity. While one may argue that Crowe was masculine too,
still, he seemed more troubled, sensitive and emotional. He did not
project the honest masculinity that he did in Gladiator. He
was, what California's former governor might refer to as a "girlie
boy."

And look how often it is portrayed in movies that a woman can
knock out white males with a single punch. Or if its not that then
they can outshoot a white male or are better at swordfighting,
etc.
One way or another, someday this "experiment" in trashing white
men will come to an end. I just hope it does not have to come to an
end through the fall of the country to war, civil war, foreign
power occupation etc.

Fine parody, Alan. And very true to the genre's tenets, the most
important of which is to use some grains of reality in a sarcastic
way.
In your case, these are the concentration camps for any
dissenters, not only for longhaired musicians.
The left had them in Vietnam (another grain of truth - Hanoi
Jane visited them, and couldn't see anything wrong), in Soviet
Union (socialist Bernard Shaw had visited them long before Hanoi
Jane went to Nam, and haven't seen any prisoners, too); the
disciple of the left "philosopher" Jean-Paul Sartre who chose his
idol's name for his well known nom de guerre, Pol Pot, upgraded
camps to killing fields in Cambodia; the lefts' favourite underwear
brand, to wit, T-shirt image Compañero Guevara, had his mini-fields
in Havana Central Prison when he became its Comandante. You surely
know this Spanish word - one of the Hollywood champagne
r-r-r-revolutionaries Oliver Stone chose it as title for his...
er... documentary about Fidel Castro. Shall I tell that he, too,
didn't notice any violence against dissenters in Cuba?
So yes, a lot of truth in your parody. The only lie and brazen
lie to that - is when you try to pin the torture, death, and slave
labour camps on the right. But it doesn't come as surprise, so go
ahead. No village without a village idiot, no discussion board

Bill Hussein O'Stalin| 1.20.11 @ 6:37AM
You make some good points. The only thing in the crosshairs
(OOOPS!) since this incident occurred is the truth.
Contrast this incident where six citizens were murdered to the
incident at Ft. Hood, Texas where a member of the military shot and
killed 13 fellow soldiers.
Talk about taking out our first line of defense. And what became
of Major Hasan? You don't see the press writing about him because
in fact he's one of their heroes.
Major Hasan did what each and every member of the state run
press and many Democrats would like to do and that's slap the
military down or destroy it.
Ironically Major Hasan attended Virginia Tech, another little
fact the press doesn't like to refer or discuss. Virginia Tech was
the scene of another killing spree by another minority.
By the way Major Hasan's education was paid for entirely by the
taxpayer and at each level.
His way of saying thanks was to murder 13 soldiers.
As a result of the shooting there has been a debate as to
whether Major Hasan is a terrorist or not. Eric Holder refuses to
say of course because Eric Holder and many other top officials at
the Justice Department used to represent those types. What follows
is from several credible sources.
Prior to Hasan's murder spree Hasan had come to the attention of
federal authorities at least six months before the attacks, because
of internet postings he appeared to have made discussing suicide
bombings and other threats, though authorities did not at the time
definitively tie the postings to him. The postings, made in the
name "NidalHasan," likened a suicide bomber to a soldier who throws
himself on a grenade to save his colleagues, and sacrifices his
life for a "more noble cause." No official investigation was
opened.
Hasan was investigated by the FBI after intelligence agencies
intercepted at least 18 e-mails between him and al-Awlaki between
December 2008 and June 2009. Even before the contents of the
e-mails were revealed, terrorism expert Jarret Brachman said that
Hasan's contacts with al-Awlaki should have raised "huge red
flags". According to Brachman, al-Awlaki is a major influence on
radical English-speaking jihadis internationally.
In one of the e-mails, Hasan wrote al-Awlaki: "I can't wait to
join you" in the afterlife. Hasan also asked al-Awlaki when jihad
is appropriate, and whether it is permissible if innocents are
killed in a suicide attack. In the months before the shooting,
Hasan increased his contacts with al-Awlaki to discuss how to
transfer funds abroad without coming to the attention of law
authorities.
A DC-based Joint Terrorism Task Force operating under the FBI
was notified of the e-mails, and the information was reviewed by
one of its Defense Criminal Investigative Service personnel. Army
employees were informed of the e-mails, but did not perceive any
terrorist threat in Hasan's questions. Instead, they viewed them as
general questions about spiritual guidance with regard to conflicts
between Islam and military service, and judged them to be
consistent with legitimate mental health research about Muslims in
the armed services
ABC News reported that officials were aware that Hasan had
attempted to contact Al Qaeda,[56] and that Hasan had "more
unexplained connections to people being tracked by the FBI" than
just Anwar al-Awlaki.
The real question here is why after 9/11 was the government so
incompetent in following up on these threats and probable
cause?
You could look at Dupnik (Appropriate named unless you want to
call him Dopenik) and see why. He failed to follow up on numerous
death threats made by Laughner and then went on to blame the
incident in Tucson on everyone else.
After the Ft. Hood shootings, al-Awlaki praised Hasan's
actions:
Nidal Hassan is a hero. He is a man of conscience who could not
bear living the contradiction of being a Muslim and serving in an
army that is fighting against his own people.... Any decent Muslim
cannot live, understanding properly his duties towards his Creator
and his fellow Muslims, and yet serve as a US soldier. The U.S. is
leading the war against terrorism which in reality is a war against
Islam....
And that may explain why the press is roundly condemning Palin,
Limbaugh, Beck, et al. It's because they consider Laughner a sort
of anti-hero in the Catcher in the Rye sense and that's precisely
why they can't focus on him.
Instead of focusing on Dupnik's incompetency and Laughner's
mental illness, they would rather side track the issue because in
fact the state run media loves the Laughners and Hasans of the
world.
In both cases the government could have easily prevented the
incidents. But because the truth is always in the crosshairs due to
political correctness or other political motivations the nation
viewed two tragedies from two nuts who had given plenty of
forewarning.

Politics in a welfare state is merely the waging of lowgrade
civil war. The bitterness and anger many feel towards "their"
government is appropriate. The American System is an oligarchy
ruled by governmental and financial elites. This much has been made

Palin put a rifle scope crosshair on a government official, declare
"Reload, don't retreat!", and when the guy shoots - there is no
correlation.
Right, that sums them well.
vanzorge| 1.20.11 @ 11:59AM
kelly - i'm a bit confused by your post....... do you know the
shooter personally? otherwise, how do you know what healthcare he
had, and whether or not he ever watched sarah palin?
kelly| 1.20.11 @ 12:40PM
vanzorge, your first question seems to assume the shooter's US
health care served him well.
Concerning Palin, most would agree it's just very unlikely that
a shooter hasn't watched her.
Grzmlyk| 1.20.11 @ 1:02PM
"Most" would agree? Gee, Kelly, what facts do you have to back
this up? Let me guess: Lawrence O'Donnell asserted it with great
smugness. Or was it Ed Schultz?
Sweetheart, a presumption is not a fact. A blind assertion is
not an argument.
For example, I happen to know for a fact that most would agree
that Kelly is incorrigibly promiscuous and has had several
embarrassing STDs.
Most would agree that kelly has a nasty Oxycodone habit,
too.
Truth be told, most would also agree that that Kelly is a serial
shoplifter and has embezzled thousands of dollars from the charity
she volunteers for.
And I think we know that most would agree that Kelly herself has
been a blood-sucking parasite on the government dole since
2002.
Kelly, what do you have to say for yourself, you promiscuous,
drug-addled, thieving welfare mother?
Ugh. your kind disgusts me.
kelly| 1.20.11 @ 1:12PM
I'm a Republic.
Fact remains, in the real world of cause and effect, America
would rather go Afro-American than risk a 'rouge' chance of Bush's
2008 in 2009, 2010, 2011..
Steve A| 1.20.11 @ 1:18PM
kelly, The truth is that the Obama experiment is already over.
Hope you have enjoyed. The Republic did a 180 in November on your
idol. The Rebublicans could roll out a tin can in 2012 & take
it down. Just watch.
Grzmlyk| 1.20.11 @ 1:31PM
Wow, you're a Republic?
I'm a monarchy, myself.
Can you help me out and tell me what a "rouge" is? I don't speak
moron.
Occam's Tool| 1.20.11 @ 2:22PM
I speak psychotic, Mr. G---I believe that she was trying to say
"rogue."
Anthony| 1.20.11 @ 2:58PM
Grzmlyk, You're a planet buddy!!!
Grzmlyk is Earth and kelly is Uranus.
Grzmlyk| 1.20.11 @ 3:14PM
Sadly, Kelly is not the object of my ire.
Its the educated liberals that drive me nuts - you'd think
they'd know better. But it just goes to show that vanity is a far
more seductive mistress than logic.
Anthony| 1.20.11 @ 3:00PM
Occam's, I just love bilingual conservatives.
Grzmlyk| 1.20.11 @ 3:12PM
Hi, Occam.
I thought of that, but unless I'm missing something, a "rogue
chance of Bush's 2008" doesn't mean anything either.
I fear we are hopelessly lost in the miasma of Kelly's mind.
If nature abhors a vacuum, how does one explain Kelly?
It would be sad if it weren't so malignant.
Larry| 1.20.11 @ 2:32PM
I'm a dictatorship. If I could only get into power here for a

skip| 1.20.11 @ 3:09PM
Larry is on to something.
Democracy's inherent flaw is there is no guarantee the majority
will hold the correct solution. Witness the United States of
America circa 2008-2010, or circa 1933-2011 for that matter.
The ideal form of government may very well be a benevolent
dictatorship. Think King Solomon of the Bible. Or, The Lord God
Almighty.

kelly| 1.20.11 @ 1:50PM
"A mentally ill man without affordable health care watches Sarah
Palin put a rifle scope crosshair on a government official, declare

correlation."
Clearly, it states there was NO correlation. YOUR logic and and
conscience rightly found offense.
Larry| 1.20.11 @ 3:50PM
Comrade Golfer is only half black (I think his other half is
red). Thus, he's only half as bad as Idi, I think.
kelly| 1.20.11 @ 4:59PM
Again:
Rep. Gifford's medical coverage is exhausted - what do you do?
Name calling(congrads - lock'n load) solves nothing. America's
health care costs 17% GDP and 120 uninsured Americans die
unnecessarily daily. Universal health care nations average 11% GDP
costs, yet have longer lifespans.
One can get to work in a used car, 1/10th the new car price.
Where's 1/10th price medical care? A healthy nation is a better
defense(and cheaper) than occupying other nations.
The reloader's own college wouldn't let him attend. As more
Americans are neglected, do you really think this was the last
reload?
Again, if Rep. Gifford's medical coverage is exhausted - what do
you do?
jstwndring| 1.20.11 @ 4:53PM
Loughner is white you idiot. Is that all you morons on the left
have? The race card?! In a situation that involves not ONE black
person? Didn't they close that coolaid stand yet?
jstwndring| 1.20.11 @ 4:51PM
Dude. Seriously. That went so far over her head she didn't even
see it.
kelly is operating in ignorance. Schizophrenia is not a curable
disease, nor are most treatments for it very effective. The issue
of health care, affordable or not, is entirely off the point.
As far as Loughner's watching Palin, kelly seems to be claiming
the ability to read minds, since the testimony of Loughner's
acquaintances indicates a disinterest in partisan political
matters. He has a general tilt to the left, but even that seems to
have had no effect on his choice of targets.
So what I'm suggesting for kelly is, that he/she/it acquire a
few facts before commenting.
jstwndring| 1.20.11 @ 4:48PM
Mom and dad payed for it all. He was still at home, and his
parents covered most, if not all of his expenses. Try putting your
leftist health care spin on that. I know, I know. Don't allow me to
confuse you with the facts.
Charie| 1.23.11 @ 8:52PM
Wow, Kelly, you must get all your exercise leaping to
conclusions.
Grzmlyk| 1.20.11 @ 12:45PM
Kelly, sweetie, you are cukoo for Coco-Puffs.
Of course, it's ok for the left to have blatantly called for
Bush's assassination. Or for lefties to routinely call for Rush
Limbaugh or Dick Cheney to die violent, ugly deaths. That's free
speech.
But put the image of a crosshair on an election map? For shame.
That is tantamount to murder.
Unless, of course, you're a Democrat. Then it's just a campaign
tactic.
After all, it was the Clinton adminstration's reelection team
that named their meeting place "The War Room." Thank GOD it wasn't
a Republican who did that.
Ladies and gentlemen, I give you Kelly: A pristine example of
the modern leftist, a species that has turned in on itself to the
extent that it can no longer survive in the real world of cause and
effect.
And does not deserve to.
That's not a threat. That's evolution.
kelly| 1.20.11 @ 1:04PM
..Ladies and gentlemen, I give you Grzmlyk: A pristine example
of the modern rightist, a species that cheers the 8 year Bush
summary - 2008: unending debt, war, and "Global Financial
Meltdown".
In the real world of cause and effect, America would rather go
Afro-American than risk a 'rouge' chance of Bush's 2008 in 2009,
2010, 2011..
Grzmlyk| 1.20.11 @ 1:27PM
"Afro American?" It's 2011, Kelly.
Thank you for reading my mind and telling me what I think of
Bush's eight years. Really, there is no end to your perspicacity,
is there?
Of course that's only because there's no beginning, either, but
let's not quibble.
BTW, why doesn't your messiah stop the war in Afghanistan - or
Iraq? Why hasn't the great one closed Gitmo? What's that?
Silence?
In the REAL world, I don't care that he's black - and he IS half
white, is he not? I care that he's a Marxist - which I know you
find sexy and terribly cool. But in the real world, Marxism is
destructive.
And its manifestation in practice happens to be socialism -
which can ONLY survive off of the profits made by evil capitalists.
See how that works? That means it's self-destructive. Because once
it wrings out all the profits of all the companies, there's no more
blood to suck.
Which is why there was no bread to eat in the Soviet Union even
though it had the largest tract of farmland on the planet.
And you know who you can blame for the financial meltdown? Your
heroes on the left who wanted to put people into homes they
couldn't afford - at any cost. For political gain. So they could
keep people like you intoxicated on government goodies so you'll
keep voting Democrat and keep them in power.
In any case, your last sentence shows that you don't understand
what cause and effect are. You see, "America would rather go
Afro-American" is an OPINION. It has nothing to do with "cause and
effect."
Although, come to think of it, you may have a point - Obama was
elected because he's black, wasn't he? It sure wasn't his
qualifications.
Just so you understand, I'll help you out with an illustration.
Cause and effect is this: Putting millions of people into homes
with artificially low teaser rates for mortgages CAUSED them to
default once the rates were reset to reflect the real world - not
the phony world of political demagoguery, which is where you
obviously occupy all of your time.
Effect: Financial Meltdown
Cause: Putting people into homes they couldn't afford.
See how that works?
Reality: Acquaint yourself with it.
kelly| 1.20.11 @ 1:40PM
"You see, "America would rather go Afro-American" is an OPINION.
It has nothing to do with "cause and effect.""
I was referring to a presidential election. Those are the things
without chads.
Grzmlyk| 1.20.11 @ 1:51PM
Actually, presidential elections DO have chads.
Hence the blowhard Al Gore's bogus claim to have won the 2000
election.
As for our piece of shit in chief's election, I don't know what
your ballot said, but mine didn't offer a choice between "the black
guy" and "the white guy."
But you're a liberal, so it's ok to see people only in terms of
race.
But that's STILL not cause and effect. You really don't know
anything, do you?
Psssst: Bush didn't run for president in 2008.
Lexa| 1.20.11 @ 1:53PM
Kelly, do you mean "rogue?" If not, what does "rouge" chance
mean? Is that some new liberalspeak?
Actually, wasn't Mrs. Palin's symbol a surveyor's symbol, not a
target or cross hair?
Steve A| 1.20.11 @ 12:49PM
kelly, A mentally ill person without any facts posts on TAS
under the name "kelly" suggesting that conservative opposition to
Obamacare & Sara Palin are to blame for the Arizona shooter
& when the rest of us laugh at the idiocy - there is direct
correlation.
Right, that sums up the Left well.
kelly| 1.20.11 @ 1:34PM
Steve, you know nothing of me or my Honorable Discharge from the
US Army.
To sum it up, America would rather go Afro-American than risk a
'rouge' chance of Bush's 2008 in 2009, 2010, 2011..
Hopefully, with your logic and Palin Blood Libel, our Nobel
laureate President will be able to further govern.
Steve A| 1.20.11 @ 1:40PM
kelly, Thanks for your service, sincerely. You know nothing
about the mindset of the shooter yet you assign blame to Palin
& lack of "affordable healthcare." I am embarrased for you. You
are making an ass of yourself in public.
Grzmlyk| 1.20.11 @ 1:46PM
What are you, a broken record? Is your inane comment about
America rather going Afro-American than risk a "rough" change of
Bush the extent of your political discourse?
And you saySteve knows nothing of you or your honorable
discharge - but your own ignorance doesn't prevent YOU from making
sweeping generalizations and conclusions.
But that's the left all over: A double standard.
Kelly, I have to say this in all seriousness: After reading your
posts, I believe you are too stupid to continue a conversation
with. Or operate a heavy vehicle. Or type. Or hold down a job.
In fact, you're too damned stupid to do anything on this
planet.
Except vote Democrat.
Steve A| 1.20.11 @ 1:58PM
Grzmlyk, Frustrating, I know. I swear, there are times when you
feel like you have a shot at a rational conversation with a liberal
& there are these. I firmly believe that Obama could come out
tomorrow, make a speech & reveal himself as the Anti-Christ
& get a standing O from kelly & company. Probably 30% would
still vote for him. The facts are irrelevant to these people.
Grzmlyk| 1.20.11 @ 2:34PM
Thanks, Steve A - I agree with you completely. In Obama's case -
since he's a member of the very hightest victim group you can be in
in America - he could say anything and be praised to the skies.
I have learned that there are three kinds of liberals, and only
three:
Fools, crooks and pawns.
The fools are the college students, the ignorant and the
vanity-intoxicated "Good," "evolved" people - academicians,
celebrities, artitsts and "journalists" - who honestly believe that
if we all hold hands and wish hard enough - or just apply enough
coercion to the problem people - we can change human nature (or at
least the human nature of OTHERS; they always somehow exempt
themselves) such that we will all live in eternal bliss for the
"common good" - i.e., the State.
The crooks are the politicians, businessmen and assorted knaves
who exploit the vanity of the Good for their own power. That would
be people like Obama, Reid, Pelosi, Al Gore, lobbyists, party
apparatchiks, faceless bureaucrats and entire companies like
Viacom, Goldman Sachs and GE. And, sadly, now Wal-Mart, who finally
has gotten its "mind right" and has learned that it's more
profitable to go along with the false consciousness of liberalism
than to stand up for the truth. These are the people who stir up
the class envy and manufacture - and then balkanize - various
victim groups and pretend that "social justice" is the highest form
of human expression when what they are really doing is either
solidifying their hold on power or lining their own pockets - or
both.
The pawns are people like Kelly - insensate, inchoate, stupid
and ignorant, they just see the goodies that are being handed out
by Big Government and they want to be in the receiving line.
They're happy to vote Democrat as long as they get theirs. They're
too dumb to realize they're being kept dumb in order to make others
rich.
Most excellent, as usual, Grzmlyk. I hope you're saving all of
these brilliant observations for your book. And, if you haven't
thought of a book, you should, or at least a blog. Thanks for your
always enlightening essays.
Grzmlyk| 1.20.11 @ 5:56PM

Occam's Tool| 1.20.11 @ 2:25PM
That is correct---there is no correlation. He wanted to kill
people for psychotic reasons; there is no indication that he read
about Palin's crosshairs map since he was apolitical. Chance of
your supposition holding up in court---zero.
Steve A| 1.20.11 @ 2:36PM
kelly, Yawn, you still here?? Even the media wackos on the Hard

JeffW| 1.20.11 @ 2:48PM
Kelly, That wouldn't be a medical discharge for mental
insability would it? Those are also honorable discharge. See,
unless your kicked out for doing something wrong, you get a
honorable discharge. Otherwise its a OTH (other than honorable) or
BCD (Bad Conduct Discharge). Thanks for your service but you can't
pull that crap around here. Some of us have served as well and are
well educated in the smell of BS.
kelly| 1.20.11 @ 3:32PM
JeffW, it costs a $million a year to supply a US soldier
overseas and your education in the smell of BS certainty seems
worth it - whatever discharge.
JeffW| 1.20.11 @ 4:47PM
LOL, your a tool. Yes it cost money to supply a soldier
overseas, just as it cost money to supply them in the us. By your
math it cost the goverment $20 million to keep me supplied before I
retired. I honestly do thank you if you have served but I had many
like you serve under me and they only came in to get college and
then got out. Nothing wrong with that but it isn't long enough to
really open your eyes. I think yours are closed and you will lash
out sophmorically against anyone who disagrees with your idol.
Fine, that's your right, but you are not proving any points are
winning any converts here.
Grzmlyk| 1.20.11 @ 3:43PM
I am going to depart from conservative orthodoxy here. I do NOT
think we should reflexively thank verterans for their service.
After all, people join the army for a host of reasons, some of
which are purely self-serving - a discounted education, get out of
trouble, no direction in life, can't get into college, etc.
Most in the military don't even see combat, and many remain in
the US or get cushy posts in peaceful areas. They do their minimum
stint and get out with a lot more than they went in with.
If somebody joins the army because they genuinely want to serve
their country, they deserve our gratitude. But if they join
specifically for their own purposes and intend on doing the bare
minimum to get out, is that ipso facto an act of nobility worthy of
my thanks? I do not think so.
As for Kelly, he/she is starting to sound like somebody who used
to post here - Marcell, is that you?

"our Nobel laureate President will be able to further

I wasn't going to lower myself to comment about your tripe, kelly,
but that is just beyond the pale. He can't "further govern" because
he has yet to begin. His agenda, just in case you had not yet
noticed, is not to govern but to tear down this country's military,
legal system, and morals. 2012 is not that far away, thank
goodness. That he will be defeated is certain. I just hope people
with common sense will landslide the phony in chief out the door
and give.

Mainly, Republicans and Bush war, imagined WMDs, no-bid

jstwndring| 1.20.11 @ 5:29PM
Confirmed WMDs by former military and intelligence personel that
worked directly for Saddam. They also confirmed that those WMDs
left the country via air and ground transport prior to the start of
our invasion of Iraq. Wow. You were in the military?
Oh, and by the way, the DemocRats in Congress voted to authorize
the war too. Only a very small handful voted against. Hypocrites
that they are, they then worked to undermine the entire effort
after the fact. Just like the did in Vietnam, Korea, Gulf I.
Traitors. All of them.
jstwndring| 1.20.11 @ 5:34PM
Also, I guess the entire Clinton administration "imagined" the
WMDs as well, since they not only identified them as a legitimate
threat in the '90's, they were in fact making a case for going to
war against Saddam to finish what we started under Bush Senior. I
like inconvenient details like that are ignored by those of you on
the left trying to take cheap shots at those of us on the right.
But, of course Clinton is a Democrat, and is to be left alone.
Right?

miseducation - well, it's vintage Marcell.

You are sort of like John Kerry (who served in Vietnam) in that
you think that mentioning your military service will shield you

ignores the painfully obvious fact that the lunatic in question had
far more in common with the collectivist hive on the left.

of the left. That is to denature the language, rob it of its
vividness and power. George Orwell was on to them. He knew that
when concrete imagery is replaced by fuzzy vagueness the ability to
think clearly is impaired. When that happens, government can get
away with all sorts of things. Enhanced revenue is really higher
taxes. Man-caused disasters used to be called terrorism. Islam is
the religion of peace and tolerance and those who object to its
strictures are haters. Let CNN blaze new paths into blandness and
inoffensiveness. Nobody is watching anyhow.

I am glad to see it mentioned more often here that leftists will
back down when resolutely confronted on their ideas. And when the
public sees strong and balanced resolve on the part of
conservatives a good % will get behind them; enough so that
conservatives will gain a majority in governance in at least the
national and state level. Conservatives can also win elections on a
local level but in many Democrat cities this still remains
elusive.
I hope the Repubs in the House will believe this and act on it
accordingly and not worry if they are loved by the media or
leftists.
BackToBasics| 1.21.11 @ 12:19AM
To clarify, liberals will back down when resolutely confronted
in person or in a venue such as a legislative body. Fighting ideas
in writing is different than when facing your opponents. Any online
forum attests to that. I was alluding more to the legislative
political aspect of the ideological confrontation.

Maybe America will cotton to the notion of a majority of elected

Did anyone at CBS notice that these 2 phrases might inspire someone

As long as the logic against Obama consists of:
"For example, I happen to know for a fact that most would agree
that Kelly is incorrigibly promiscuous and has had several
embarrassing STDs.

I finally realized why liberals are so quick to blame Sarah
Palin for everything under the sun that they do not like.
i thought it first was projection. What people blurt out is usually
what is on their own minds. So they tend to accuse others of
thinking what they themselves think.
But it this case it is more complicated. Leftists are bitterly
disappointed in our President who, aside from silly attempts at
appeasing evil, has continued the hated Bush foreign policies and
screwed up domestic policy leading to the November debacle for
Democrats.
But they are afraid to criticize him. What they say about Palin is
really all the things they want to say about Obama but can't. They
say she is dumb, that she is not ready to be president, that she is
a menace to the country. These are the things they mean to say
about Obama but do not dare to!
If you listen to them, think how well every one of their comments
about Palin really reflect their views about Obama!
MarkR| 1.21.11 @ 2:18AM
I dont quite agree. I think they are upset with the Messiah sure
enough. However what they see in Palin is what they really despise.
She is beautiful and yet free of being intimidated. She states her
case and doesnt back away. She is the antithesis of liberal women
who tend to be ponderous or anemic looking, emotional and gossipy.
Think about it- when you think of Barbara Walters (now) or Joy
Behar or Maureen Dowd or Whoppi or even Oprah does this make a man
sit up and take notice? Uh, probably not. They hate that Palin
brought a Downs kid into the world or that she is outdoorsy or a
hunter- that really pisses em off. What it really comes down to is
they hate that they cant change her in any way- they cant get her
to moderate. --Saying all this- Palin has a long way to go on the
road to a White House bid I think- but I believe if she turned left
tomorrow the left would embrace her as one of their own in a
heartbeat and her "stupidity" and particular characteristics they
lambast would be not an issue. You see the left is not about
thought but emotion. Thought involves evaluating policies on there
effectiveness where emotion is "intent" even if the result is non
existent. So Palin really represents what lefty women hate-
traditional and strong. Whereas leftist women come on strong but
melt into victims at a moments notice. They could never stand the
heat Palin has had to endure for over two years and she thrives in
the midst of that heat- they really hate that.
Charles Stevens| 1.21.11 @ 2:32AM
The verbiage itself is irrelevant. The heart of the matter
involves a cultural consensus on personal responsibility or lack
thereof.
Progressive influence and control have undermined the
foundations of personal responsibility throughout this society. The
moral imperative asserting that the internal feelings of someone
are the sole responsibility of that person, has been deliberately
trashed. By undermining that ethos, it precludes individual
responsibility for any subsequent personal decision as to what to
do about such feelings, including how or how not to react. This
morality between God and the individual is anathema to
progressives; it directly interferes with their ability to control
each member of society, and to assign blame based on whoever is
their enemy-du-jour. Personal responsibility has been diabolically
weakened over the decades by the progressive agenda in
communications, entertainment, journalism, and education.
Each time a so-called conservative argues about what is or is
not “hate speech”, he has already succumbed to leftist assumptions.
A true conservative does not believe in the concept of hate speech
in the first place. Instead he believes in free speech. The give
and take of unfettered speech in a free society is assumed to allow
the populace to hear all sides, separate the good from the bad, and
then make an informed choice. A society of mature individuals is
also assumed to take on the burden of personal responsibility for
both individual feelings and any subsequent actions. A limited
government founded on liberty resists any attempt to pre-judge
speech, as if its citizens otherwise lack such basic
decision-making skills that they need outside authority to insulate
precious feelings and thoughts. The only way the latter could be
accomplished is to have such authority dictate what feelings and
thoughts are permissible, i.e., the thought control of a
tyranny.
These traditionalist principles have been destroyed by the left.
Add to that the tactics and strategies of cultural Marxism.
Progressives immediately trot out their premeditated hypocrisy,
designed as a power play for the next quasi-legal attempt to gain
control of their opponents. In short, the left is deliberately
inciting hatred of the right, based not on facts but on fantasies
and meta-narratives. We are now at the point where any attempt to
pose alternative viewpoints to the left is labeled hate speech.
When are Conservatives going to wake up and realize that those whom
they still suppose to be mere political opponents are instead
vicious enemies, who have already battered down the door?
MarkR| 1.21.11 @ 5:16PM

It should be. "Why is female circumcision banned but male
circumcision not?"
The answer is that male infant or child genital mutilation
gained acceptance because of a religious legend. Then it was spread
by the primitive "doctors" of the 18th and 19th centuries to
prevent masturbation, which was regarded as "unclean".
The news reports a hateful Arizona election campaign, with
outsider Sarha Palin putting one candidate in crosshairs while
taunting, "Reload, don't retreat" on her TV show. Afterwards, an
unstable man then shoots the crosshair candidate and murders six
others.
There aren't many dots to connect. Sane people find at least a
degree of correlation, even before Palin declares her blood libel.
But then there's comments on this site..
MarkR| 1.21.11 @ 5:29PM
Knowing the facts surrounding Mr. Loughner and his interactions
with Ms. Giffords would be instructive. Mr. Loughner had contact
with Ms. Giffords in 2007 and was upset with the Congresswomans
response to him and carried a grudge for three years! He was out to
get the congresswoman and the idea that Palin was involved in the
least is ridiculous and without merit. The crosshairs issue is a
non issue as it is a graphic used by all sides - both right and
left and could be utilized by either side to foist a straw man into
the argument which the far left chose to do. The fact is no one on
the left was willing to INVESTIGATE the circumstances surrounding
the shooter and instead jumped to supposed politically advantageous
conclusions. The syllogism used to connect Palin to the crime is
illogical-
point a) Loughner used a gun to kill and maim
Point b) Palin used crosshairs on a map
Point c) Loughner shot up the place due to point b.
Illogic involved: substitute anyones crosshairs into the
equation to get the same outcome with the name of the individual
drawing up the crosshairs placed into the syllogism. Its a straw
man which is easily blown down .
Pat| 1.21.11 @ 7:47PM
.."The syllogism used to connect Palin to the crime is
illogical"
MarkR, tell that to one of those shot:
"Eric Fuller, a 63-year-old Navy veteran who was shot in the
knee and received fragments in the back last Saturday, said the
rhetoric of Sarah Palin and others can impact "demented" people
like suspect Jared Loughner."
"Fuller went on to criticize national media outlets that allow
violent rhetoric on the air: "I would put Sarah Palin in first
place there. I think, really, she should be incarcerated for
treason for advocating assassinating public officials. That map I
saw that she published on the Internet had crosshairs on it and one
of them was meant for Gabrielle Giffords."
Seems like victims connect Palin to their gunshot wounds quite
logically.
Fuller is in or was in a mental institution for making threats
himself. Enough said. Using illogical emotion laden comments with
NO facts behind them is illogical in itself.

Marxism started some 160 years ago with the Communist Manifesto.
It was implemented in dozens of countries since 1917. Invvariably
it has resulted in terror, utter poverty, and mass murder. Why? It
is contrary to human nature - like trying to make fish fly or birds
crawl. Then how come that, in the face of overwhelming deadly
evidence, our professors and intellectuals by vast majorities
propagate the "science" of marxism? This former refugee from a
communist hell cannot explain it - except perhaps it is just
another form of lunacy.

I could not agree more. I do not watch much TV or DVDS but last week under the weather and bored to tears I watched two DVDs the only ones available. I am a bit ashamed to say that I watched Iron Man II and Robin Hood.
In Iron Man the hero tycoon and creator of the suit that saved the world is effeminate, speaks glibly, skipping from one subject to another, is having emotional problems and is basically led by the nose by a beautiful, extremely intelligent female red head who obviously is a lot smarter than our male hero. It seems the hero was always trying to get in touch with his inner child.
The second female, perhaps 21, sexy and intelligent, she has a law degree, has probably devoted her life from age three to the practice of an arcane martial art. In a fight scene while a man fights it out for five minutes with a single opponent, and for the most part getting the worst of it, our young lady beats, knocks out or ties up in a cord suspended from the ceiling, about 10 men this, with incredibly swift and camera assisted moves-- and without so much as messing up her mascara or raising a bit of honest sweat. She is like the female CEO, far superior to these pathetically effeminate men.
Crowe plays Robin Hood and of course he does his share of killing in a sort of passive way. He is so softly spoken and passive one can hardly hear what he has to say. Lady Marion, however, in an excellent character presentation I must say, exhibited courage, defiance, and even such great swords play that had the performance been given by a man he would be hailed for his masculinity. While one may argue that Crowe was masculine too, still, he seemed more troubled, sensitive and emotional. He did not project the honest masculinity that he did in Gladiator. He was, what California's former governor might refer to as a "girlie boy."

Fine parody, Alan. And very true to the genre's tenets, the most important of which is to use some grains of reality in a sarcastic way.
In your case, these are the concentration camps for any dissenters, not only for longhaired musicians.
The left had them in Vietnam (another grain of truth - Hanoi Jane visited them, and couldn't see anything wrong), in Soviet Union (socialist Bernard Shaw had visited them long before Hanoi Jane went to Nam, and haven't seen any prisoners, too); the disciple of the left "philosopher" Jean-Paul Sartre who chose his idol's name for his well known nom de guerre, Pol Pot, upgraded camps to killing fields in Cambodia; the lefts' favourite underwear brand, to wit, T-shirt image Compañero Guevara, had his mini-fields in Havana Central Prison when he became its Comandante. You surely know this Spanish word - one of the Hollywood champagne r-r-r-revolutionaries Oliver Stone chose it as title for his... er... documentary about Fidel Castro. Shall I tell that he, too, didn't notice any violence against dissenters in Cuba?
So yes, a lot of truth in your parody. The only lie and brazen lie to that - is when you try to pin the torture, death, and slave labour camps on the right. But it doesn't come as surprise, so go ahead. No village without a village idiot, no discussion board without its buffoon.
Alan Brooks| 1.20.11 @ 8:05PM
"Hollywood champagne r-r-r-revolutionaries Oliver Stone"
But didn't Stone redeem himself by doing a sympathetic film on Hitler? a film to demonstrate that, like Che (a physician), Hitler (an artist) had his positive qualities-- as Pat Buchanan to this day realizes.
We try to see the views of others.
Sergew Baruch| 1.21.11 @ 2:20AM
Going positive on Hitler, a national SOCIALIST, Stone just confirmed his own Left-wing credentials.
"Che", BTW, was as much a physician as D-r Mengele of Auschwitz-Birkenau fame, Papa Doc and Baby Doc Duvalier, or Dr Armand Hammer, Lenin's personal friend and NKVD's bag-man for the American Communist party.
No doubt you and Oliver Stone could find positive qualities in all of them.

They might have a problem with that though as mentioning "cross" could be construed as endorsing that most evil of religions and they'd lose whatever remaining small audience they have.

You make some good points. The only thing in the crosshairs (OOOPS!) since this incident occurred is the truth.
Contrast this incident where six citizens were murdered to the incident at Ft. Hood, Texas where a member of the military shot and killed 13 fellow soldiers.
Talk about taking out our first line of defense. And what became of Major Hasan? You don't see the press writing about him because in fact he's one of their heroes.
Major Hasan did what each and every member of the state run press and many Democrats would like to do and that's slap the military down or destroy it.
Ironically Major Hasan attended Virginia Tech, another little fact the press doesn't like to refer or discuss. Virginia Tech was the scene of another killing spree by another minority.
By the way Major Hasan's education was paid for entirely by the taxpayer and at each level.
His way of saying thanks was to murder 13 soldiers.
As a result of the shooting there has been a debate as to whether Major Hasan is a terrorist or not. Eric Holder refuses to say of course because Eric Holder and many other top officials at the Justice Department used to represent those types. What follows is from several credible sources.
Prior to Hasan's murder spree Hasan had come to the attention of federal authorities at least six months before the attacks, because of internet postings he appeared to have made discussing suicide bombings and other threats, though authorities did not at the time definitively tie the postings to him. The postings, made in the name "NidalHasan," likened a suicide bomber to a soldier who throws himself on a grenade to save his colleagues, and sacrifices his life for a "more noble cause." No official investigation was opened.
Hasan was investigated by the FBI after intelligence agencies intercepted at least 18 e-mails between him and al-Awlaki between December 2008 and June 2009. Even before the contents of the e-mails were revealed, terrorism expert Jarret Brachman said that Hasan's contacts with al-Awlaki should have raised "huge red flags". According to Brachman, al-Awlaki is a major influence on radical English-speaking jihadis internationally.
In one of the e-mails, Hasan wrote al-Awlaki: "I can't wait to join you" in the afterlife. Hasan also asked al-Awlaki when jihad is appropriate, and whether it is permissible if innocents are killed in a suicide attack. In the months before the shooting, Hasan increased his contacts with al-Awlaki to discuss how to transfer funds abroad without coming to the attention of law authorities.
A DC-based Joint Terrorism Task Force operating under the FBI was notified of the e-mails, and the information was reviewed by one of its Defense Criminal Investigative Service personnel. Army employees were informed of the e-mails, but did not perceive any terrorist threat in Hasan's questions. Instead, they viewed them as general questions about spiritual guidance with regard to conflicts between Islam and military service, and judged them to be consistent with legitimate mental health research about Muslims in the armed services
ABC News reported that officials were aware that Hasan had attempted to contact Al Qaeda,[56] and that Hasan had "more unexplained connections to people being tracked by the FBI" than just Anwar al-Awlaki.
The real question here is why after 9/11 was the government so incompetent in following up on these threats and probable cause?
You could look at Dupnik (Appropriate named unless you want to call him Dopenik) and see why. He failed to follow up on numerous death threats made by Laughner and then went on to blame the incident in Tucson on everyone else.
After the Ft. Hood shootings, al-Awlaki praised Hasan's actions:
Nidal Hassan is a hero. He is a man of conscience who could not bear living the contradiction of being a Muslim and serving in an army that is fighting against his own people.... Any decent Muslim cannot live, understanding properly his duties towards his Creator and his fellow Muslims, and yet serve as a US soldier. The U.S. is leading the war against terrorism which in reality is a war against Islam....
And that may explain why the press is roundly condemning Palin, Limbaugh, Beck, et al. It's because they consider Laughner a sort of anti-hero in the Catcher in the Rye sense and that's precisely why they can't focus on him.
Instead of focusing on Dupnik's incompetency and Laughner's mental illness, they would rather side track the issue because in fact the state run media loves the Laughners and Hasans of the world.
In both cases the government could have easily prevented the incidents. But because the truth is always in the crosshairs due to political correctness or other political motivations the nation viewed two tragedies from two nuts who had given plenty of forewarning.

The enemy of the United States that is liberalism must be destroyed.
The abuse of the constitutional rights of Americans must be vanquished.
The corruption of Christianity in society must be defeated.
The complete lack of intelligence of anything relating to liberalism must be demolished.
The utter lack of honesty of anything relating to liberalism must be eradicated.
The bipartisanship that allowed the current state of the nation to exist must be killed.
The theft of private property must be conquered.
The opposition to free speech must be ruined.
The murder of the unborn must be exterminated.
Liberalism must be attacked, targeted, assailed, shot down, stormed, bombarded, and razed until its very existence is a thing of the past.
The words of the author of the Declaration of Independence must be kept in mind: "The tree of liberty must be refreshed with the blood of patriots and tyrants from time to time; it is its natural fertilizer."
This assault on liberalism does not reflect the opinions of CNN; CNN further disclaims any relation to common sense whatsoever; CNN reserves the right to avoid any common sense, intelligence, and/or honesty, in perpetuity.

What the shooting really showed is that the best way to garner a lot of attention is to shoot a CongressCritter. The narrative should have been "whack job", "demented loser", "pathetic pot-head", "despicable anti-social behavior", and any other descriptions that would marginalize the shooter. Instead, he's a victim/hero. Any attack on a Republican or Tea Partier is now fully justifiable. Why it's as if the media wants more shootings... how much more blood will the Democrats have on their hands? Oh well, eggs/omelets and all that.

Can we finally stop pretending we can have any rational conversations with the left? The insanity that flows daily out of their mouths is breathtaking to behold; a psychiatrist's dream come true.
From the MSM blaming Sarah Palin and talk radio, to Debbie Wasserman Shultz, the moronic leftist congresswoman from Florida, who insists that no action be taken on repeal of Obamacare until Rep. Giffords is fully recovered, to Rep. Cohen (D) of Tenn. who compares any of us who call Obamacare national health care, Nazi's, there is no REASONING with these people.
The MSM head up the morally and intellectually bankrupt component of the loony left, let's just stop pretending we can out shout them or demand any degree of professionalism from them.

Just a couple of thoughts:
1. If CNN is going to eliminate "war" references from their coverage, how exactly do they intend to cover war?
2. If they just want to eliminate all "violent" metaphors, will they be eliminating football or boxing metaphors as well?
Tim| 1.20.11 @ 11:45AM
Politics in a welfare state is merely the waging of lowgrade civil war. The bitterness and anger many feel towards "their" government is appropriate. The American System is an oligarchy ruled by governmental and financial elites. This much has been made clear since the economic collapse of 2008 and the bailouts that soon followed. People get really pissed off when you rip them off. I'm not suggesting the gunman in Tucson had any identifiabel political motivations nor that his actions were in anyway justified. But if want to know why someone might resort to violence, you should ask yourself who is the biggest purveyor of violence on the planet.

Concerning Palin, most would agree it's just very unlikely that a shooter hasn't watched her.
Grzmlyk| 1.20.11 @ 1:02PM
"Most" would agree? Gee, Kelly, what facts do you have to back this up? Let me guess: Lawrence O'Donnell asserted it with great smugness. Or was it Ed Schultz?
Sweetheart, a presumption is not a fact. A blind assertion is not an argument.
For example, I happen to know for a fact that most would agree that Kelly is incorrigibly promiscuous and has had several embarrassing STDs.
Most would agree that kelly has a nasty Oxycodone habit, too.
Truth be told, most would also agree that that Kelly is a serial shoplifter and has embezzled thousands of dollars from the charity she volunteers for.
And I think we know that most would agree that Kelly herself has been a blood-sucking parasite on the government dole since 2002.

Rep. Gifford's medical coverage is exhausted - what do you do?
Name calling(congrads - lock'n load) solves nothing. America's health care costs 17% GDP and 120 uninsured Americans die unnecessarily daily. Universal health care nations average 11% GDP costs, yet have longer lifespans.
One can get to work in a used car, 1/10th the new car price. Where's 1/10th price medical care? A healthy nation is a better defense(and cheaper) than occupying other nations.
The reloader's own college wouldn't let him attend. As more Americans are neglected, do you really think this was the last reload?
Again, if Rep. Gifford's medical coverage is exhausted - what do you do?

kelly is operating in ignorance. Schizophrenia is not a curable disease, nor are most treatments for it very effective. The issue of health care, affordable or not, is entirely off the point.
As far as Loughner's watching Palin, kelly seems to be claiming the ability to read minds, since the testimony of Loughner's acquaintances indicates a disinterest in partisan political matters. He has a general tilt to the left, but even that seems to have had no effect on his choice of targets.
So what I'm suggesting for kelly is, that he/she/it acquire a few facts before commenting.
jstwndring| 1.20.11 @ 4:48PM

Kelly, sweetie, you are cukoo for Coco-Puffs.
Of course, it's ok for the left to have blatantly called for Bush's assassination. Or for lefties to routinely call for Rush Limbaugh or Dick Cheney to die violent, ugly deaths. That's free speech.
But put the image of a crosshair on an election map? For shame. That is tantamount to murder.
Unless, of course, you're a Democrat. Then it's just a campaign tactic.
After all, it was the Clinton adminstration's reelection team that named their meeting place "The War Room." Thank GOD it wasn't a Republican who did that.
Ladies and gentlemen, I give you Kelly: A pristine example of the modern leftist, a species that has turned in on itself to the extent that it can no longer survive in the real world of cause and effect.
And does not deserve to.
That's not a threat. That's evolution.
kelly| 1.20.11 @ 1:04PM
..Ladies and gentlemen, I give you Grzmlyk: A pristine example of the modern rightist, a species that cheers the 8 year Bush summary - 2008: unending debt, war, and "Global Financial Meltdown".
In the real world of cause and effect, America would rather go Afro-American than risk a 'rouge' chance of Bush's 2008 in 2009, 2010, 2011..
Grzmlyk| 1.20.11 @ 1:27PM
"Afro American?" It's 2011, Kelly.
Thank you for reading my mind and telling me what I think of Bush's eight years. Really, there is no end to your perspicacity, is there?
Of course that's only because there's no beginning, either, but let's not quibble.
BTW, why doesn't your messiah stop the war in Afghanistan - or Iraq? Why hasn't the great one closed Gitmo? What's that? Silence?
In the REAL world, I don't care that he's black - and he IS half white, is he not? I care that he's a Marxist - which I know you find sexy and terribly cool. But in the real world, Marxism is destructive.
And its manifestation in practice happens to be socialism - which can ONLY survive off of the profits made by evil capitalists. See how that works? That means it's self-destructive. Because once it wrings out all the profits of all the companies, there's no more blood to suck.
Which is why there was no bread to eat in the Soviet Union even though it had the largest tract of farmland on the planet.
And you know who you can blame for the financial meltdown? Your heroes on the left who wanted to put people into homes they couldn't afford - at any cost. For political gain. So they could keep people like you intoxicated on government goodies so you'll keep voting Democrat and keep them in power.
In any case, your last sentence shows that you don't understand what cause and effect are. You see, "America would rather go Afro-American" is an OPINION. It has nothing to do with "cause and effect."
Although, come to think of it, you may have a point - Obama was elected because he's black, wasn't he? It sure wasn't his qualifications.
Just so you understand, I'll help you out with an illustration. Cause and effect is this: Putting millions of people into homes with artificially low teaser rates for mortgages CAUSED them to default once the rates were reset to reflect the real world - not the phony world of political demagoguery, which is where you obviously occupy all of your time.
Effect: Financial Meltdown
Cause: Putting people into homes they couldn't afford.
See how that works?
Reality: Acquaint yourself with it.

Steve A| 1.20.11 @ 1:58PM
Grzmlyk, Frustrating, I know. I swear, there are times when you feel like you have a shot at a rational conversation with a liberal & there are these. I firmly believe that Obama could come out tomorrow, make a speech & reveal himself as the Anti-Christ & get a standing O from kelly & company. Probably 30% would still vote for him. The facts are irrelevant to these people.
Grzmlyk| 1.20.11 @ 2:34PM
Thanks, Steve A - I agree with you completely. In Obama's case - since he's a member of the very hightest victim group you can be in in America - he could say anything and be praised to the skies.
I have learned that there are three kinds of liberals, and only three:
Fools, crooks and pawns.
The fools are the college students, the ignorant and the vanity-intoxicated "Good," "evolved" people - academicians, celebrities, artitsts and "journalists" - who honestly believe that if we all hold hands and wish hard enough - or just apply enough coercion to the problem people - we can change human nature (or at least the human nature of OTHERS; they always somehow exempt themselves) such that we will all live in eternal bliss for the "common good" - i.e., the State.
The crooks are the politicians, businessmen and assorted knaves who exploit the vanity of the Good for their own power. That would be people like Obama, Reid, Pelosi, Al Gore, lobbyists, party apparatchiks, faceless bureaucrats and entire companies like Viacom, Goldman Sachs and GE. And, sadly, now Wal-Mart, who finally has gotten its "mind right" and has learned that it's more profitable to go along with the false consciousness of liberalism than to stand up for the truth. These are the people who stir up the class envy and manufacture - and then balkanize - various victim groups and pretend that "social justice" is the highest form of human expression when what they are really doing is either solidifying their hold on power or lining their own pockets - or both.
The pawns are people like Kelly - insensate, inchoate, stupid and ignorant, they just see the goodies that are being handed out by Big Government and they want to be in the receiving line. They're happy to vote Democrat as long as they get theirs. They're too dumb to realize they're being kept dumb in order to make others rich.
There is no other kind of liberal.

.."A mentally ill man without affordable health care watches Sarah Palin[don't forget her TV show] put a rifle scope crosshair on a government official, declare "Reload, don't retreat!", and when the guy shoots - there is no correlation."
"..walks like,..talks like", but don't like the word 'correlation'? Some say, "Methinks thou dost protest too much."
Occam's Tool| 1.20.11 @ 2:25PM
That is correct---there is no correlation. He wanted to kill people for psychotic reasons; there is no indication that he read about Palin's crosshairs map since he was apolitical. Chance of your supposition holding up in court---zero.
Steve A| 1.20.11 @ 2:36PM
kelly, Yawn, you still here?? Even the media wackos on the Hard Left have quit beating this drum as they realized how small the argument makes them look, yet you persist. You are persuading none. You are merely talking to yourself.
kelly| 1.20.11 @ 3:23PM
Steve-ish, Rep. Gifford's medical coverage is exhausted - what do you do?
Your name calling solves nothing. America's health care costs 17% GDP and 120 uninsured Americans die unnecessarily daily. Universal health care nations average 11% GDP costs, yet have longer lifespans.
One can get to work in a used car, 1/10th the new car price. Where's 1/10th price medical care? A healthy nation is better defense(and cheaper) than occupying other nation.
The reloader's own college wouldn't let him attend. As we neglect more of our own, do you really think this was the last reload?
Again, if Rep. Gifford's medical coverage is exhausted - what do you do?
JeffW| 1.20.11 @ 2:48PM
Kelly, That wouldn't be a medical discharge for mental insability would it? Those are also honorable discharge. See, unless your kicked out for doing something wrong, you get a honorable discharge. Otherwise its a OTH (other than honorable) or BCD (Bad Conduct Discharge). Thanks for your service but you can't pull that crap around here. Some of us have served as well and are well educated in the smell of BS.
kelly| 1.20.11 @ 3:32PM
JeffW, it costs a $million a year to supply a US soldier overseas and your education in the smell of BS certainty seems worth it - whatever discharge.
JeffW| 1.20.11 @ 4:47PM
LOL, your a tool. Yes it cost money to supply a soldier overseas, just as it cost money to supply them in the us. By your math it cost the goverment $20 million to keep me supplied before I retired. I honestly do thank you if you have served but I had many like you serve under me and they only came in to get college and then got out. Nothing wrong with that but it isn't long enough to really open your eyes. I think yours are closed and you will lash out sophmorically against anyone who disagrees with your idol. Fine, that's your right, but you are not proving any points are winning any converts here.
Grzmlyk| 1.20.11 @ 3:43PM
I am going to depart from conservative orthodoxy here. I do NOT think we should reflexively thank verterans for their service.
After all, people join the army for a host of reasons, some of which are purely self-serving - a discounted education, get out of trouble, no direction in life, can't get into college, etc.
Most in the military don't even see combat, and many remain in the US or get cushy posts in peaceful areas. They do their minimum stint and get out with a lot more than they went in with.
If somebody joins the army because they genuinely want to serve their country, they deserve our gratitude. But if they join specifically for their own purposes and intend on doing the bare minimum to get out, is that ipso facto an act of nobility worthy of my thanks? I do not think so.

I wasn't going to lower myself to comment about your tripe, kelly, but that is just beyond the pale. He can't "further govern" because he has yet to begin. His agenda, just in case you had not yet noticed, is not to govern but to tear down this country's military, legal system, and morals. 2012 is not that far away, thank goodness. Confirmed WMDs by former military and intelligence personel that worked directly for Saddam. They also confirmed that those WMDs left the country via air and ground transport prior to the start of our invasion of Iraq. Wow. You were in the military?
Oh, and by the way, the DemocRats in Congress voted to authorize the war too. Only a very small handful voted against. Hypocrites that they are, they then worked to undermine the entire effort after the fact. Just like the did in Vietnam, Korea, Gulf I. Traitors. All of them.
jstwndring| 1.20.11 @ 5:34PM
Also, I guess the entire Clinton administration "imagined" the WMDs as well, since they not only identified them as a legitimate threat in the '90's, they were in fact making a case for going to war against Saddam to finish what we started under Bush Senior. I like inconvenient details like that are ignored by those of you on the left trying to take cheap shots at those of us on the right. But, of course Clinton is a Democrat, and is to be left alone. John King and the rest of the limp-wristed pussyfooters at CNN are involved, probably unknowingly, in one of the great campaigns of the left. That is to denature the language, rob it of its vividness and power. George Orwell was on to them. He knew that when concrete imagery is replaced by fuzzy vagueness the ability to think clearly is impaired. When that happens, government can get away with all sorts of things. Enhanced revenue is really higher taxes. Man-caused disasters used to be called terrorism. Islam is the religion of peace and tolerance and those who object to its strictures are haters. Let CNN blaze new paths into blandness and inoffensiveness. Nobody is watching anyhow.

BackToBasics| 1.20.11 @ 11:50PM
I am glad to see it mentioned more often here that leftists will back down when resolutely confronted on their ideas. And when the public sees strong and balanced resolve on the part of conservatives a good % will get behind them; enough so that conservatives will gain a majority in governance in at least the national and state level. Conservatives can also win elections on a local level but in many Democrat cities this still remains elusive.
I hope the Repubs in the House will believe this and act on it accordingly and not worry if they are loved by the media or leftists.
BackToBasics| 1.21.11 @ 12:19AM
To clarify, liberals will back down when resolutely confronted in person or in a venue such as a legislative body. Fighting ideas in writing is different than when facing your opponents. Any online forum attests to that. I was alluding more to the legislative political aspect of the ideological confrontation.

"For example, I happen to know for a fact that most would agree that Kelly is incorrigibly promiscuous and has had several embarrassing STDs.
Kelly, what do you have to say for yourself, you promiscuous, drug-addled, thieving welfare mother?
Ugh. your kind disgusts me. "

I finally realized why liberals are so quick to blame Sarah Palin for everything under the sun that they do not like.
i thought it first was projection. What people blurt out is usually what is on their own minds. So they tend to accuse others of thinking what they themselves think.
But it this case it is more complicated. Leftists are bitterly disappointed in our President who, aside from silly attempts at appeasing evil, has continued the hated Bush foreign policies and screwed up domestic policy leading to the November debacle for Democrats.
But they are afraid to criticize him. What they say about Palin is really all the things they want to say about Obama but can't. They say she is dumb, that she is not ready to be president, that she is a menace to the country. These are the things they mean to say about Obama but do not dare to!
If you listen to them, think how well every one of their comments about Palin really reflect their views about Obama!
MarkR| 1.21.11 @ 2:18AM
I dont quite agree. I think they are upset with the Messiah sure enough. However what they see in Palin is what they really despise. She is beautiful and yet free of being intimidated. She states her case and doesnt back away. She is the antithesis of liberal women who tend to be ponderous or anemic looking, emotional and gossipy. Think about it- when you think of Barbara Walters (now) or Joy Behar or Maureen Dowd or Whoppi or even Oprah does this make a man sit up and take notice? Uh, probably not. They hate that Palin brought a Downs kid into the world or that she is outdoorsy or a hunter- that really pisses em off. What it really comes down to is they hate that they cant change her in any way- they cant get her to moderate. --Saying all this- Palin has a long way to go on the road to a White House bid I think- but I believe if she turned left tomorrow the left would embrace her as one of their own in a heartbeat and her "stupidity" and particular characteristics they lambast would be not an issue. You see the left is not about thought but emotion. Thought involves evaluating policies on there effectiveness where emotion is "intent" even if the result is non existent. So Palin really represents what lefty women hate- traditional and strong. Whereas leftist women come on strong but melt into victims at a moments notice. They could never stand the heat Palin has had to endure for over two years and she thrives in the midst of that heat- they really hate that.
Charles Stevens| 1.21.11 @ 2:32AM
The verbiage itself is irrelevant. The heart of the matter involves a cultural consensus on personal responsibility or lack thereof.
Progressive influence and control have undermined the foundations of personal responsibility throughout this society. The moral imperative asserting that the internal feelings of someone are the sole responsibility of that person, has been deliberately trashed. By undermining that ethos, it precludes individual responsibility for any subsequent personal decision as to what to do about such feelings, including how or how not to react. This morality between God and the individual is anathema to progressives; it directly interferes with their ability to control each member of society, and to assign blame based on whoever is their enemy-du-jour. Personal responsibility has been diabolically weakened over the decades by the progressive agenda in communications, entertainment, journalism, and education.
Each time a so-called conservative argues about what is or is not “hate speech”, he has already succumbed to leftist assumptions. A true conservative does not believe in the concept of hate speech in the first place. Instead he believes in free speech. The give and take of unfettered speech in a free society is assumed to allow the populace to hear all sides, separate the good from the bad, and then make an informed choice. A society of mature individuals is also assumed to take on the burden of personal responsibility for both individual feelings and any subsequent actions. A limited government founded on liberty resists any attempt to pre-judge speech, as if its citizens otherwise lack such basic decision-making skills that they need outside authority to insulate precious feelings and thoughts. The only way the latter could be accomplished is to have such authority dictate what feelings and thoughts are permissible, i.e., the thought control of a tyranny.
These traditionalist principles have been destroyed by the left. Add to that the tactics and strategies of cultural Marxism. Progressives immediately trot out their premeditated hypocrisy, designed as a power play for the next quasi-legal attempt to gain control of their opponents. In short, the left is deliberately inciting hatred of the right, based not on facts but on fantasies and meta-narratives. We are now at the point where any attempt to pose alternative viewpoints to the left is labeled hate speech. When are Conservatives going to wake up and realize that those whom they still suppose to be mere political opponents are instead vicious enemies, who have already battered down the door?
MarkR| 1.21.11 @ 5:16PM

It should be. "Why is female circumcision banned but male circumcision not?"
The answer is that male infant or child genital mutilation gained acceptance because of a religious legend. Then it was spread by the primitive "doctors" of the 18th and 19th centuries to prevent masturbation, which was regarded as "unclean".

The news reports a hateful Arizona election campaign, with outsider Sarha Palin putting one candidate in crosshairs while taunting, "Reload, don't retreat" on her TV show. Afterwards, an unstable man then shoots the crosshair candidate and murders six others.
There aren't many dots to connect. Sane people find at least a degree of correlation, even before Palin declares her blood libel. But then there's comments on this site..

Knowing the facts surrounding Mr. Loughner and his interactions with Ms. Giffords would be instructive. Mr. Loughner had contact with Ms. Giffords in 2007 and was upset with the Congresswomans response to him and carried a grudge for three years! He was out to get the congresswoman and the idea that Palin was involved in the least is ridiculous and without merit. The crosshairs issue is a non issue as it is a graphic used by all sides - both right and left and could be utilized by either side to foist a straw man into the argument which the far left chose to do. The fact is no one on the left was willing to INVESTIGATE the circumstances surrounding the shooter and instead jumped to supposed politically advantageous conclusions. The syllogism used to connect Palin to the crime is illogical-
point a) Loughner used a gun to kill and maim
Point b) Palin used crosshairs on a map
Point c) Loughner shot up the place due to point b.
Illogic involved: substitute anyones crosshairs into the equation to get the same outcome with the name of the individual drawing up the crosshairs placed into the syllogism. Its a straw man which is easily blown down .

"Fuller went on to criticize national media outlets that allow violent rhetoric on the air: "I would put Sarah Palin in first place there. I think, really, she should be incarcerated for treason for advocating assassinating public officials. That map I saw that she published on the Internet had crosshairs on it and one of them was meant for Gabrielle Giffords."
Seems like victims connect Palin to their gunshot wounds quite logically.

Fuller is in or was in a mental institution for making threats himself. Enough said. Using illogical emotion laden comments with NO facts behind them is illogical in itself.

Right, now the victims don't know who harmed them.
Wonder what Rep. Giffords may say, or has Sarah incited a reload for that possibility..

Always find it amazing that the mere mention of her name can drive the lefties stark, raving MAD! If for nothing else, I'm for Sarah!

Marxism started some 160 years ago with the Communist Manifesto. It was implemented in dozens of countries since 1917. Invvariably it has resulted in terror, utter poverty, and mass murder. Why? It is contrary to human nature - like trying to make fish fly or birds crawl. Then how come that, in the face of overwhelming deadly evidence, our professors and intellectuals by vast majorities propagate the "science" of marxism? This former refugee from a communist hell cannot explain it - except perhaps it is just another form of lunacy.

Is this part of the Fox Entertainment Group?
The remaining living victims know the atmosphere leading to their wounds. Seems a wounded veteran, unafraid of reloads, spoke out against Palin and you don't like it.

King represents the feminization of America, in general, and the "news", specifically. Look at who delivers most of the news in this country, both locally and nationally. Whether it's Headline News, the networks or Fox News, or your local stations, there is a template in place. Watch the teasers for your 11:00 news. Fashion. Foot ware. Relationships. Sex. The latest health scare. I'm supposed to stay up late for this? I stopped watching national and local news about 30 years ago. I believe I'm a happier person for it.
