Goodbye to Britain’s YWCA

Another revered institution drops its “Christian” association in favor of a left-wing “Platform.”

Its website endorses something called the Kairos Document, originating from a number of left-wing church organizations and associated with the far left World Council of Churches.

Not only does this document not say one word about Israel’s right to exist, even with its original borders, it implicitly denies it, claiming:

“The Palestinian people have faced oppression, displacement, suffering and clear apartheid for more than six decades” – i.e. since the founding of Israel in 1948 — “The suffering continues while the international community looks on at the occupying State, Israel.”

The report goes on to claim: “The document also demands that all people, political leaders and decision-makers put pressure on Israel and take all legal measures in order to oblige its government to end its oppression and disregard for international law. The document also holds a clear position that non-violent resistance to this injustice in a right and duty for all Palestinians including Christians.” The logical end of this demand is that Israel has no right to any territory.

It continues; “It is hoped that by learning from Palestine voices we can develop a better understanding of the ways in which trapped Palestinian communities and individuals… living in enclosed enclaves in East Jerusalem are not only controlled, restricted and excluded, but also survive and resist traps.” It is not stated what these traps are, nor is there any suggestion that the Arab countries might take in the Palestinian refugees as Israel took in about a million Jewish refugees when it was formed and has taken more since.

There is in this not one word of condemnation, or even mention of, the violent and indiscriminate terrorist attacks which have been made on Israeli civilians by rockets and suicide bombers. The document makes no pretence of balance or even-handedness, or suggests that Israel has any right to exist behind secure boundaries, or at all. Admittedly I have not read all its literature, but in what I have read there is not a single word about Islamic oppression and intolerance.

Those who have supported the YWCA in the past in the belief that it is a non-political Christian organization might care to think again.

I am very glad I visited Britain in my youth, before it began to implode. I will not be going back there any time soon. Alas.

Bruce| 1.12.11 @ 9:51AM

Appleby;
My ex-wife just got from the UK in mid-December. She said she won't ever go back. She said that even in the smaller towns, the thugs and hooligans rule the streets.

Occam's Tool| 1.12.11 @ 2:00PM

And in Paris I guess it's worse. Oh, well, see the Louve on computer programs, and the British Museum.

Seriously, guys, my wife and I were discussing how long it was going to take until they start destroying the paintings with the human form.

Doctor_X| 1.12.11 @ 7:17AM

The British YWCA is being very honest in changing its name. It is no longer a Christian organization and it certainly does not support Christian values of beliefs. I am glad that Christianity will no longer be associated with such a radical leftist group.

Occam's Tool| 1.12.11 @ 10:10PM

On the contrary, Dr. X---the YWCA supports Liberal "Christian" ideology, like the Presbyterianazi Church (USA), with its virulent antisemitism.

It is the Conservative Christian churches, like Pastor Hagee's, that preach the Gospel I learned to appreciate at TCU in the 1980s.

Too Many Tims| 1.12.11 @ 9:20AM

Imagine an alien trying to study human culture and report on it. " In human politics many organizations have names that are intentionally deceptive in nature."
"Are they trying to deceive us?"
"No , each other. Some scholars feel they are deceiving their own members as well."
"How is it possible that these monkeys ever made it out of the trees?"

Appleby| 1.12.11 @ 11:26AM

"Too many people," my late Daddy used to opine, "still live in their family trees."

Occam's Tool| 1.12.11 @ 2:01PM

And those trees are twigs, Appleby.

By the way, love your posts.

bobmontgomery| 1.12.11 @ 11:09AM

If anyone is interested, the AMERICAN YMCA is also rebranding" itself. They are letting local branches still call themselves YMCA's for the moment, but the national org. wants to be known as just 'the Y', and will probably soon bann local branches from the full title. Everything is being corrupted. Everything.

bookworm| 1.16.11 @ 3:14PM

I thought I was the only one noticing it!

Franco| 1.12.11 @ 11:51AM

An " M" is just an upside-down "W", isn't it?

Hmm.....

Richard Baker| 1.12.11 @ 12:43PM

Another feminist diatribe. Platform 51? What has that to do with uplifting young women? Oh, I forgot. Passe'. What next? Tear down the cathedrals in England as a sexist manifestation?

Christopher Holland| 1.12.11 @ 9:55PM

May as well tear down the cathedrals - after all, nobody uses them anymore Not for worship and prayer, at any rate.

Dave| 1.12.11 @ 1:16PM

It amazes me no end when an ostensibly women's group opts to support a society (Palestinian Arabs) where women are treated a chatal property. But I suppose you can't let a little thing like official misogyny stand in the way of rampant anti semitism.

Occam's Tool| 1.12.11 @ 10:11PM

Check out the Presbyterian Church (USA) for more virulent antisemitism. There's a reason that "Liberal" church is nicknamed the Presbyterianazi church. And they're losing members.

AdrianS| 1.12.11 @ 2:01PM

So, in the near future, comes along the NewYWCA, no affiliation with Platform 51; however, it will be a Christian association with the morals and beliefs akin to the World YWCA - the umbrella organization of the global network of the YWCA.

Avidyananda| 1.12.11 @ 5:35PM

The YWCA in New York City in the 1980s was a non-Christian organization--mostly a feminist organization. The Korean YWCA in Flushing, Queens, was very centered on Christianity. And the good works they did were admired by the American YMCA in Manhattan, but the Americans were confused. They didn't know what to make of the devout Korean Christian women. I wonder if the Flushing Korean YWCA has managed to keep its Christian heart.

Christopher Holland| 1.12.11 @ 10:00PM

There must be something to those Koreans. I am in Banff, Canada, which is hardly a metropolis and the local church has a notice out the front in Korean advertising the hours of service. Looks like the Christian Korean heart is beating strongly in unexpected places. Good on them, they are nice people.

love of liberty| 1.12.11 @ 10:07PM

I only wished I belonged to this group....so I could have the satisfaction of quitting! They should at least have the honesty of starting their own group with their own money, their own buildings, and not assume all their present YWCA members are on board.

Gaz| 1.12.11 @ 11:16PM

"Many believe there is an anti-Christian bias among those who decide which charities get state funding"

I'm afraid everyday that goes by less and less people believe in almighty beings up high much less a book that was written a very long time ago by a bunch of men with their own agenda's, a book that has also been translated so many times it is hard to imagine what the original would have contained. More and more people in the U.K fail to see the relevance of a book written by a group of men way back when and how it relates to modern everyday life.

A serving British Soldier

Patrick| 1.13.11 @ 11:42AM

Yes, the state, pleasure, or a vague idea of "freedom" is becoming more and more substituted for devotion to humanity's Creator. This is part and parcel of Europe's cultural, demographic, political, and economic decline.

henry| 1.13.11 @ 3:06AM

Check out Matthew Ch 24. Nothing surprising about any of this.

tim| 1.13.11 @ 10:29AM

Whilst I don't particularly think that the YWCA's decision is necessarily helpful, there is no reference to the Kairos document on Platform 51's website - the only reference I can find is on the Palestinian YWCA website. Given the document is endorsed by every major christian organisation in the region (including the dean of the Evangelical Bible College), to claim the Kairos document is unchristian and leftist is essentially to claim all churches except American evangelicals are wrong. It is Israeli policy not Islam that has led to the collapse in Christian numbers in Palestine and why American evangelicals keep supporting a government that tacitly supports a policy that drives the descendents of those who heard and accepted Christs message out of the land where he walked is a constant source of frustration and shame to those of us seeking to follow him elsewhere in the world.

TomT| 1.13.11 @ 7:52PM

well yes, timmy, it is the american evangelicals of the past and those who cntinue to believe truth who are the only ones who truely understand God's love and FREE gift of salvation. most everyone else mistakenly believes salvation is earned by good works.... very sad
by the way, moron, the dead sea scrolls prove that what we have today is vertually unchanged from early history and you can bet that at least the Hebrews were honest and inteeigent enough to know how to accurately preserve their own Scriptures, unlike the British and most of the world with no longer any concept of past and history.

Richard Baker| 1.13.11 @ 11:24AM

Gaz:
First read it in Greek or Aramaic, which has been done. Secondly, the rules, regulations, and traditions governing your conduct as a British Soldier originated hundreds of years ago. Should these governing principles be discarded, as well?

Gaz| 1.13.11 @ 8:09PM

Rules and regulations in the forces change as needed, to compare this to a book written over a 1000 years ago is a bit daft.
Also reading it in different languages? Prey tell what i the point? It would not alter my perception that it i very probably a VERY different book to what originally was written down.

TomT| 1.14.11 @ 12:39PM

you're a fool, Gaz!
over a thousand years ago?
try 3K for some of it.
do you believe what we read today of william shakespear is fundamentally different from what he origanally wrote?
do you think the BRILLIANT Jews are less capable of protecting their own sacred writings than the spiritually dead British?
fool!
try thinking for a change before spewing ignorance

TomT| 1.14.11 @ 12:42PM

or the Magna Carta? golly!! a thousand years!!!
Moron

Gaz| 1.15.11 @ 11:21AM

How is it moronic to state a fact? No I didn't give a specific number of years for the age of this ficitional book.
I stated it was over a thousand years old which is true it is 'over' a thousand years old.
Get off your bible bashing pedestals once in a whie before opening your mouths ;)

y'all have a nice day now.

---'Christian' anything is an endangered species
after more than a century of systematic undermining at the hands of Luciferian Freemasonry, and their 'fave' operative tool of infiltration and
destroying compromise ---the Arminian Heresy.

I haven't been in a church in ages but have spent
some time looking into this ---and was frankly
astounded.

DO the background. Follow how the seemingly
harmless notion that man is made in God's image
(UNTRUE, according to scripture, as ONLY Adam was thus, and ONLY up until the Fall)
opened a seam in doctrine, culture, society
the very nation itself that's even now reeling
toward destruction 'by design'...

"John Calvin was America's REAL founding father."
-George Bancroft
America's pre-eminent historian
1830

----He was there ---he knew.

OBSERVE the Arminian tent show antics of our
media as they 'ease' us into globalism and 'eugenics realism'.

Watch the empathy swirls, and the delusional inclusion fantasies
and the standardizing, collectivizing 'feel good'
events.

We now know television itself was designed to
undermine and collectivize from within the very
sanctum of the private household. It was part of
the eugenics plan. Huxley discussed it even in
the 1940's though the agenda was set decades earlier as the technology was withheld.

Arminian Heretic, and creation of arch-Globalist
high Freemason William Randolph Hearst
---Billy Graham destroyed the simple truth of
genuine, local neighborhood churches with his
sports stadium 'crusades' ----almost an exact copy
of Charles Finney's 1800's tent show desolation
of New York state. CHECK IT OUT!

----ASTOUNDING and disturbing re-enactment.

Of course, Oprah Winfrey, and now Mormon,
and, therefore we assume, Freemason Glenn Beck
is carrying on this deadly, lucrative 'tradition'
at the very dawn of globalized, franchise-slummed
POST America---short-changing the dire state
of things with squishy, 'earnest' concerns, and
styles of address designed for ten year olds.

BTW---Mormonism, always connected even in the matter of eugenics experiments with Luciferian capstone Freemasonry, sprang out of the same toil and almost same moment as
Finney.

AGAIN, ---know what you'redealing with.

Oddly enough, when one begins to see and accept the fundamental TOTAL DEPRAVITY of mankind
as the ground of truth -----things DO begin to
clear and simple truths begins to quietly reassert
themselves.

There can be no doubt that bringing the REAL culprits of worldwide 'engineered collpase' and 'chaos magic' to justice ain't gonna' be pretty...

TomT| 1.14.11 @ 12:34PM

good insight, Hugh

Rich Rostrom| 1.14.11 @ 12:29PM

The American YWCA has long been under the domination of leftists. Its official motto, prominently displayed in front of every YWCA, is
"Eliminating racism, empowering women."

There's nothing wrong in the abstract with "eliminating racism". But making that the rhetorical first priority of a group, ahead of the different, equally worthy purpose _for_ _which_ _the group_ _was_ _established_, reeks of hijacking.

Why "eliminating _racism_"?

Why not "eliminating ignorance", or "poverty", or "disease", or "crime"?

Answer: because "racism" is the Left's favorite villain.
