Why Are Terrorist Threats Against Synagogues Being Downplayed?

Follow the address on the label of the packages from Yemen.

I would like to hear a more thorough explanation as to why American and British authorities now believe that the bombs contained in the packages sent from Yemen were intended to be detonated aboard the UPS and FedEx cargo planes carrying them rather than inside the two Chicago synagogues to which they were addressed.

While I do not discount the possibility that cargo planes were the targets of this attack, absent more specific information I am not prepared to dismiss the possibility the packages were intended to land safely on U.S. soil and be deployed once inside the synagogues. Suppose for a moment that the packages had not been intercepted. Given that the packages were discovered on Friday morning in London and in Dubai is it unreasonable to conclude they would have arrived in Chicago in plenty of time for Friday night Shabbat (Jewish Sabbath) services?

It is also worth remembering that the explosives were to be detonated remotely by text message or by phoning the SIM card. As President Obama’s Deputy National Security Adviser John Brennan noted, “They were able to be detonated at a time of the terrorists’ choosing.” So why wouldn’t Muslim terrorists choose to bomb two synagogues in Chicago?  If Muslim terrorists want to target synagogues and are seeking to maximize casualties the most logical time to do so, outside of a major Jewish holiday, would be during Shabbat on Friday evening or Saturday morning. So what makes the Obama Administration (and for that matter the Cameron/Clegg coalition in Britain) think the terrorists weren’t targeting the synagogues?  If they weren’t being targeted, then why was the Emanuel Congregation getting so much web traffic from Egypt? Somehow I don’t think those Egyptian web browsers were looking to download Torah and Haftarah portions onto their MP3 players.

It isn’t as if Muslim terrorists haven’t set their sights on synagogues before. It was scarcely two weeks ago that four men residing in Newburgh, New York, were convicted of planning to bomb two synagogues in the Riverdale section of the Bronx. Three of the four men involved were born in the United States while all four men are Muslim converts. Plot ringleader James Cromitie was recorded on FBI surveillance stating he had “no hesitation” in killing ten Jews. Fortunately, Cromitie and his accomplices were not successful in carrying out their plans.

The same cannot be said of what happened during the terrorist attacks in Mumbai, India in November 2008. While a majority of the casualties occurred in the Taj Mahal Hotel and the Oberoi Trident Hotel, Muslim terrorists reserved their most vicious savagery for those inside the Chabad House whom they tied up and tortured. Their heinous acts of barbarism resulted in the deaths of six Jews including Rabbi Gavriel Berkowitz and his wife Rivka, who was five months pregnant. According to Indian intelligence, the terrorists were instructed by their masters in Pakistan that taking the lives of Jews was worth 50 times that of non-Jews.

Given what happened in Mumbai and what could have happened in Riverdale, it is troubling that American and British authorities and for that matter the media are downplaying the intent to attack the Chicago synagogues. Much of the attention the synagogues have received is that one of the congregations is predominantly LGBT congregation. One must wonder if Congregation Or Chadash would have received even less media attention if it wasn’t predominantly LGBT?

Now it is certainly possible that American and British authorities as well as the media are downplaying the threat to the synagogues in Chicago because they do not want to create a panic among the Jewish communities and the general public at large in their respective countries. But if the lives of Jews are worth fifty times more for Muslim terrorists than the lives of non-Jews regardless if they are from Pakistan, Yemen, or within the United States, then there must remain a suspicion the packages were intended to be detonated at the two synagogues in Chicago.  And I will not believe otherwise until President Obama can thoroughly explain why two synagogues in his own backyard weren’t the target of a Muslim terrorist plot.

For those of you in America who are only vaguely aware of Omar Khadr, google him in the Canadian Media and understand that he just received a 40 year sentence for killing an American soldier in Pakistan and will in fact serve one year, then be returned to Canada, where he is a Rock Star BECAUSE he killed an American, and released, given a free university education (google it and see for yourself) and join the bosom of his family, who are Best Friends with Osama bin Laden and whose mother has been interviewed on the CBC stating that her dearest wish is for all her boys to be suicide bombers and kill as many Jews AND AMERICANS as possible in the process.

This is happening upstairs, boys and girls, and you do not know a thing about it.

And the Canadians still continue kicking and screaming about the American attempt to tighten up the border, which essentially has not been done...because the Khadr family has a lot of support in Canada.

Pat Buchanan would say Holocaust-obsessed Jews are fanning the flames of discord in their Amen-corners in public offices.
But of course you think it's mostly the librals who think that way.

Brent Ryder| 11.4.10 @ 10:00PM

Omar Khadr is no rockstar in Canada! He has the support of the twisted liberal media and academic community but to most Canadians he is a murderer and a terrorist who uses our nation as a flag of conenience while he plots ways to destroy our society. Most of us would be happy to see him rot in prison for 40 years and believe that his mother and any others who share his violent Islamist ideology belong in the same place. The liberal elite in our country are just as foolish as those in the U.S. and Europe, but please don't paint all of us with the same brush.

The synagogue addresses are being downplayed because everyone is afraid to say anything that puts Muslims in a bad light, or that is sympathetic to Jews.

I remember a news report about the bombing of a Jewish facility in the past, in which it was said that the bomb might have gone off at the wrong moment and killed "innocent bystanders" -- as if the Jewish folks in the building deserved it.

Will| 11.3.10 @ 7:55AM

Just another "isolated incident"...saw reported elsewhere that Israel claims Iran has got the makings of one complete bomb, and will have two next year. Apparently this also does not worry the guy in charge. Wonder how long Americans are going to put up with it? There's incompetence and then there's willful and deliberate neglect.

I believe the influences from one of his ( obamas Bin Ly'n) college buddies Khaliddi, (maybe misspelled, my apol) has a lot to do with it, maybe not. But the connection between these two jihadist can not be misplaced. That and according to one of his advisers, Brennan, say a whole lot in this discussion. He's clearly hates the Israeli's.
I am more inclined to believe and understand that lying to the infidel's as a good means to continue the jihad against this Christian Nation to further the cause of allah, obamas Bin Ly'n is just continuing according to the jihadist playbook. They proclaim daily of a war going on between the muslim ummah and the Western Societies. As Lt. Col West, now a Representative of the Fl. State said just recently, "just because you don't want to play, doesn't mean they don't". This after all, by their own words is a 100 year war and just because the West's leaders in general want to call them the followers of the religion of peace doesn't make it so. Like obamas Bin Ly'n they are nothing short of cowardly fools aboard the same ship.

Some also tried to underplay the specifically anti-Jewish aspect of the terrorist atrocity at the Chabad in Mumbai.

We also see that anti-Jewish incidents are far more common worldwide than anti-Muslim incidents, but the politically correct only talk about and care about the latter. Not to mention that they scoff at the whole idea of modern terrorism being a mainly Muslim enterprise.

Oldefarte| 11.3.10 @ 12:03PM

Aaron's article is precisely accurate and true. I have no doubt that the intended target was the synagogues of Chicago, and that same is being covered up by our government. Does this coincide with their snubbing of Israelie Prime Minister on his previous trip to the White House or to the unusual and unwarranted political pressure that they have placed upon them over their Jewish settlement construction. There's no doubt in my mind of the connection!!!!!!!

matthew s harrison| 11.3.10 @ 12:19PM

Aaron, that can be answered with a sentence out of Obama's memoir ghost written by bill ayers: Here is the accurate and more complete quote: "Of course, not all my conversations in immigrant communities follow this easy pattern. In the wake of 9/11, my meetings with Arab and Pakistani Americans, for example, have a more urgent quality, for the stories of detentions and FBI questioning and hard stares from neighbors have shaken their sense of security and belonging. They have been reminded that the history of immigration in this country has a dark underbelly; they need specific assurances that their citizenship really means something, that America has learned the right lessons from the Japanese internments during World War II, and that I will stand with them should the political winds shift in an ugly direction."
He is more worried about his islamic base around the world, than he is with the Israelis-considering the Jews in this country take his side/Hamas' side on the Israel issue.

The problem is Obama, who refuses to publicly acknowledge what most Americans know --- that virtually all terrorist attacks around the world are perpetrated by Muslims; i.e., followers of Islam. They have killed tens of thousands of people in the name of "religion" (actually their political ideology). Muslims view everyone else as their inferior, and as their enemy, whether we are Jews or any variety of "Infidel". In general, Muslims do not recognize secular law, such as our Constitution. To the extent a predominantly Muslim country adopts secular laws, it is renouncing traditional Islam. Islam is hostile to religious freedom and human rights. For most Muslims, only so-called "holy law" (aka sharia) is valid. They are therefore subversive to our Constitution and a constant threat to freedom. The United States should close its doors to further Muslim immigration, explicitly outlaw sharia, outlaw mosques, and ban Muslims from serving in our civilian government or military.

Next time you stand in the airport security line, remember why the screening is necessary. It's not because of vague "enemy combatants", or "insurgents", or "dissidents". It's because Muslim terrorists want to kill us. This is self-evident to all but the truly dense, or disingenuous. Conflicted Obama is in the latter category.

DyingTruth| 11.8.10 @ 8:17AM

NO jews are hostile to religious freedom and ALL other American freedoms. jews are incompatible with American ideals that all men are equal, because they wrongly think that they are 'special'.

jstwndring| 11.3.10 @ 3:19PM

Yet more evidence of the "beauty" and "peace" that Islam inspires in its followers............right.

Tina Trent | 11.3.10 @ 3:34PM

The speed and coordination with which the media punted mention of synagogues is chilling. They are working in tandem with the Justice Department "message bearers," activists who would do anything to prevent discussion of Jewish Americans, or other Americans, as targets of specifically Muslim threats.

The synagogue was not the target, you see, only the destination of a bomb; killing 3,000 Americans doesn't count as anti-American hatred; a weekly rag cartoonist being forced to disappear from her own life is not an urgent warning about dangerous threats to free speech; shouting "God is Great" while murdering soldiers is a meaningless act.

The dissembling and denying is the product of a legal system in which objectivity has been buried beneath an avalanche of politically correct, identity-based directives. And once you permit that type of behavior -- philosophy -- you're essentially handing the power of law enforcement over to activists with political aims.

I imagine there are plenty of agents in the Justice Department who see this clearly and would love to blow the whistle, like that guy from the voting rights division has done.

Texas Mom 2012| 11.3.10 @ 3:39PM

Perhaps because I am a Christian I find the lack of concern of our government for the welfare of a targeted portion of our society extremely worrisome. My faith has always upheld that Jews are the chosen people, chosen by God, and that Jesus did not take away their chosen status. I would want to protect them because of their persecuted state in today's world but I also believe that as Christian's we must support them. It also unconscionable that our government tries to protect the members of a faith that promotes the desire to rule over all the world while at the same time siding with this faith against Isreal's right to defend itself. I truly do not understand the actions this administration has taken to undermine Isreal and I certainly believe that there is probable cause to believe the bombs were intended to attack synagogues. For Pete's sake! The packages were addressed to the synagogues. If the intent were to blow up planes, they had the opportunity to do that in flight before the planes landed and BEFORE the bombs were found!!! So once again, the Obama administration diverts attention from the perpetrator (Muslim terrorists) and from the intended victims (usually Americans or infidels but in this case Jewish worshipers) and says we found the bombs, move along, nothing to see here...

They could not even admit in the wake of the Fort Hood massacre that Major Nidel Hassan was acting as a Muslim jihadist. His bleeding business card actually had the S.O.A. 'soldier of allah' printed on the card.

Hopefully, we can make it the next two years without suffering another attack but unless Obama finally admits the problem is Muslim terrorists, I fear for our country.

Louis Jenkins| 11.3.10 @ 3:52PM

Oh no!! We don't want the American public to know the receiving address of those peace packages now do we. What did the security people think were being sent and to whom? Ham and eggs?

This nation, Christians, Jews, Atheists, and yes you Homosexuals, are on the chopping block if and when the Muslims come to power. I speak plainly and without compunction here. We'd best be prepared.

Gavreil S'Chevalier| 11.3.10 @ 8:53PM

When Obama was running for president, I made many attempts to warn people that Obama was a Trojan Horse. Very few believed me, and it still appears the same this very day. Americans are being led like lemmings, and the piper is none other than Obama, the radical Muslim gift to America.

gsw| 11.4.10 @ 6:41AM

But are these terrorists actually stupid enough to believe that a Rabbi would open an unordered packet from Yemen?
I must agree that it is far more likely that the the packets were addressed to the Synagogues so that the Jews could be blamed for the attacks.

Bill Clinton initiated the War in Congo(millions got killed) by his vision of peace in central africa. He employed Mr Kagame to do the Job. His vision of Peace in Middle East is a receipy of greater disaster. Obama The left Idole has evil intention for America and Israel. I beg You all who really love your country to elect Allan West and Sarah palin for Presidents(vice-versa). Though times are ehead of all of us. America need good, strong and visionary leader.
