A Further Perspective

Tomorrow, a Time for Patriotism

Samuel Adams knew what’s needed in opposition to the “vain” in government’s highest seats.

Here’s a thought regarding tomorrow’s voting, from Samuel Adams (1722-1803), a leader in the movements that became the Boston Tea Party and the American Revolution, a signer of the Declaration of Independence, and the governor of Massachusetts from 1793 to 1797.

“If ever a time should come,” wrote Adams, “when vain and aspiring men shall possess the highest seats in Government, our country will stand in need of its experienced patriots to prevent its ruin.”

“Vain” in the highest seats isn’t hard to find.

President Obama said the public is at fault if Democrats don’t do well in tomorrow’s election. Rather than blame himself and his Congressional allies for ramming through unpopular health care legislation and delivering unprecedented levels of red ink, Obama asserted that the voters aren’t thinking straight because they’re too scared — scared stupid, frightened into a lack of clarity.

“Part of the reason that our politics seems so tough right now and facts and science and argument do not seem to be winning the day all the time,” said Obama, “is because we’re hardwired not to always think clearly when we’re scared — and the country’s scared.”

That’s not unlike how candidate Obama described people in “small towns in Pennsylvania” to a private gathering of his well-heeled supporters at a 2008 fundraising affair in San Francisco.

For people in Pennsylvania’s towns where “jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing’s replaced them,” said Obama, “it’s not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.”

It’s a condescending portrayal of working class culture, characterized as xenophobic and insular by Obama to his much wealthier and self-assured audience. Too embittered to think straight, small town Pennsylvanians are stereotyped as loading up on guns, clinging to Jesus, and irrationally targeting Mexican illegals, Chinese imports, and any atypical characters who might somehow show up in their ramshackle towns.

Another instance of “vain” in the high seats came from Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., regarding his party’s expected losses in tomorrow’s election: “We have an electorate that doesn’t always pay that much attention to what’s going on, so people are influenced by a simple slogan rather than the facts or the truth or what’s happening.”

More than describing today, I’d say that Sen. Kerry inadvertently delivered the perfect account of the 2008 election, an electorate buying the simple slogans of “Hope,” “Change” and “Yes we can.”

In this Obama and Kerry scenario, the people are the problem, not the politicians. We’re either scared dumb or not paying attention, like dumb kids nodding off in the back of the classroom.

Or we’re racist. With the tea party likely to have some winners tomorrow, the NAACP has released “Tea Party Nationalism” and passed a resolution condemning “racist elements and activities” in the tea party and issued a report that accuses the tea party movement of providing “a platform to anti-Semites, racists and bigots.”

Or we’re being manipulated by sacks of foreign money, surreptitiously dropped at the Chamber of Commerce in order to pay for anti-Democrat campaign ads.

So we’re either nuts, terrified, inattentive, bigoted or just puppets who are being manipulated from overseas — or all five. And also the undeserving beneficiaries of colonial plunder.

It’s a fairytale from the “vain” in the “highest seats in government,” as Adams warned, a story in which the politicians define themselves as fine and the public is portrayed as in need of psychotherapy.

Booger | 11.1.10 @ 6:08AM

From the desk of NAACP Honcho Benjamin Todd Jealous:

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

I want to give you a proper summary of our extensively researched and documented study of the so-called "Tea-Party" movement, more properly known by their correct name, the Tea-baggers. Please make yourselves familiar with these findings, and make sure the word gets out. We can't let these Tea-baggers take Our Great Messiah Obama down.

We know the "majority" of the Tea-bagger party-people are sincere, principled people who have good will towards those who look and talk just like they do. But really, do these facts excuse the odious racism that constantly emanates from these dirty crackers to befoul our sensitive nostrils? So what if they are sincere? Weren't those Jews who killed Jesus sincere? You bet they were. Did their sincerity make Him any less dead? Well? And so what if they have principles? Principles can be evil. Some of the principles that those Tea-baggers embrace would include racism, homophobia, islamophobia, misogyny and probably pedophilia. Those are all principles, but would you want some nit-infested redneck dirtying up your living room with those principles? And of course they have good will towards each other. If there's one thing you can count on in a bunch of honkeys, it's that they'll always stick together against us.

Now let's get serious here. These ofays are out there for one reason, and one reason only. They want to take down our blessed Messiah and President, the Benevolent, Wise and Caring Great One, B. Hussein Obama. Do not be confused or distracted by the deceiving rhetoric of these tea-baggers. They use code-words to cover their insidious deviltry. Let me give you a list of the code-words you can expect to hear at a tea-bagger rally, and what they REALLY mean.

1. "Fiscal responsibility". Sounds good, doesn't it? But what does a Tea-bagger klansman really mean by this phrase? He means you can't trust a Brother with your money. After all, we finally have a true African American in charge of the country and NOW all these white goonie-birds want to start talking about fiscal responsibility. Did they talk about that when that blue-eyed devil George W. Bush was running the country? Well? No they did not! Only when a Brother is running the country do they get all worried about the money. Typical cracker nonsense, but what can you really expect from their kind?

2. "Sanctity of Marriage". Oh, their going to play the "morality" card now. Well, what does that really mean? Oh, you know it, go ahead and say it. That's right. They mean that "N-word" is looking at my fine white woman. You know those Tea-baggers can't stand the thought of a True Black Man in the "White" House. They see a Mighty African Prince standing over them with authority, and all they can think about is they're going to lose their women. Well, it would serve them right.

3. "Voting Rights". Seriously? What do the albinos know about not having their voting rights, anyway? You have two Brothers get a little carried away just one time, and all of the sudden every redneck, cracker, ofay, blue-eyed devil in the whole country gets all concerned about "voting rights". Take it from me, if the two Brothers out front would have been two Klansmen in Selma, nobody would have said a word. So why do you suppose the Tea-baggers want to scream so much about one little mis-communication in Philly?

4. "Uncle Toms and Oreos". Well, that one isn't actually part of the Tea-bagger lexicon. That's what we're going to be calling all these sell-out, so-called "Brothers" who have been showing up at the Tea-bagger rallies and consorting with the enemy. I don't care what your excuse is, or what you think you're doing. A Black Man has got no business criticizing Our Great Messiah, and anyone who does isn't really a Black Man any more, and we KNOW how to handle that. If you don't get my meaning, ask Juan Williams.

Now I do want to add, some of my best friends are white people. But they are the right kind of white people. They know their place and they know their race. They still feel the guilt for what their grandfathers did to our proud people. They know how to vote, and how to keep their mouths shut if they think they don't like what Our Great Messiah Obama is doing for this country. So I have no problem with white people, as long as they know how to act.

Okay, I think that about wraps it up for now. You know what we're up against. Let's get out there, and remember, "No Justice, No Peace". And for crying out loud, leave the "Kill Whitey" signs at home this time. You know Fox News just loves showing us carrying those around.

Sincerely,

NAACP Honcho Benjamin Todd Jealous

Good one, Booger.

24AheadDotCom | 11.1.10 @ 1:45PM

Yeah, that's really intelligent.

1. The 'partiers have been able to do nothing about the race card for various reasons, including that their frontpeople just aren't that smart.
2. Those who actually pull the strings on the partiers could care less about the race card: they're all about the money. The partiers are being led around by those who don't really care about their base being called names except as it reduces their ability to use them.
3. Ralph R. Reiland is, like other partiers, implying that those who disagree with him aren't real Americans, a truly toxic POV; that's even more toxic than the race card.
4. The partiers are a bogus movement (even if some think it's for real) that's being led around by the Kochs and DC hacks. Thus, you find that partier *candidates* are very strong supporters of "free trade". Go ahead, check it out: they probably support "free trade" even more than Obama.
5. And, those who pull the strings on the partiers support massive and even illegal immigration.

For instance, here's a video of a top partier leader doing exactly that:

http://24ahead.com/n/9458

Don't be a useful idiot for those who don't have your interests at heart. That doesn't mean that Obama does, it just means that partier leaders don't.

Your post is revealing as to the high opinion you have of the voters of this country, particularly conservatives.

We are just mindless puppets of the ruling elites, unable to think for ourselves, incapable of reasoned analysis of facts and events. We must be lead by some behind the scenes superior if diabolical force, as we the rubes of fly over country lack the rudimentary skills and insights to act in our own interests.

Tomorrow we deal one group of elites their just deserts, only time will tell if we have the stamina to maintain the vigilance to save and restore the republic. It isn’t going to be easy buy I believe we will surprise you.

It was intelligent and funny!
If you don't think Obama(Dems) has my interest at heart and the Republicans (Tea Party) do either, who am I supposed to vote for tomorrow?
Never mind - that was a stupid question!

I should not even make a comment to one as ignorant and uneducated as you obviously are. Before you make an entire fool out of yourself as you have done here in this long and drawn out abominable dribble, you really need to start reading and open that steel trap of a mind of yours to the truth, it will truly set you free, and drop that big chip of prejudiced mentality from off of your shoulders. You like most blacks in this country think everybody owns you something, because your own race of people had, sold you into slavery a 100 years ago. Blaming other races for the plight of your race and then to keep crying that your all victims like children, has been your game for to long of a time now, and has accomplished through deception more rights for your race then any other but, has not changed or given you the character needed to become a pillar of decency to the society in which you live. Being an asset and moral example to your fellow man is more important in this life than anything. For your memory will live on for future generations to admire and strive for. You and those who think like you are nothing but parasites, feeding off of respectable hard working Americans black ,white, brown, yellow or sky blue pink. It's obvious why from the 1700s until now a black or female has not been elected to the office of President. To witness the destruction of this country by individuals raised in a dysfunctional family like Harry Reid, Nancy Paloci, Obama, Clinton, Bush , just to name a few ,who are all suffering from a frightening mental disorder and, unstable abnormal behavior. Why they are not under observation in a mental institution is incomprehensible and defies all wisdom and intelligent judgement. You need help to erase the many years of brain washing you have endured by your own people, and that mental fixation of violence and killing is the only answer for your race. Obama is not your friend or anybodies, He is if anything the anti-Christ of the 21st century with a demon administration, ready and willing to do his bidding to kill America and its citizens, period.

Alan Brooks| 11.1.10 @ 8:48PM

"And for crying out loud, leave the "Kill Whitey"

They want to kill because you treated blacks like crap. But not Italians, they knew just what to do. And gays as well; the guy who called up the station after I asked why after Matt Shephard's murder were liberal gays all of a sudden pro-capital punishment.
The caller exclaimed:
"you tell Alan we gays are NO PUSHOVERS!"

Bob| 11.2.10 @ 12:11AM

Booger, nobody (voters) really take the NAACP claims of racism that seriously anymore. It has got to the point if a white person buys gas at a "White man's gas station" they are a racist. It has actually gotten silly. Most people don't look to see who owns the station, they just need gas. The NAACP and like organizations have so galvanized a majority of Black Americans anymore to think Racism that they are becoming the racists in our society. If Black Americans make up 13% of the US population and America elected a Left Wing Black Person to President then the racist charges need to stop. People including Blacks of course should be allowed to pick who they want to associate with, marry or vote for based on values or views, where they want to worship or go to school. If a Black man states my views I applaude him and vote for him, If a Black man doesn't I don't. Race is your issue not mine. Most people have moved on. I realize if you do you are out of a job. That is your motivation, I assume.

I believe Thomas Jefferson has the last word on this and every subject ,concerning the take over of other countries by force to grease the political machine in America. Speaking to future generations after his election to office of president in 1800 he warned us all " Do not get involved, "Politically" with foreign countries or America will suffer great loss"! I ask you, "How many lives of Americans have been sacrificed for those in Washington, who are only there for their own self interests? Despite the crooked polls, the number is astronomical! As many of us who would like to believe our military men and women are fighting over seas so we here in America can continue to remain free. This is nothing short of brain washing of the masses through liberal media propaganda. The worlds population now at 7 Billion were called "Sheep" thousands of years ago now, and how fitting a name. For we will all follow one another to the sheering and slaughter, to the repetitious deceptive tune of Liberty and Justice for all

Bags of money"...surreptitiously dropped at the Chamber of Commerce in order to pay for anti-Democrat campaign ads."

Really? I'd suggest that the election commission look into were the Democrats are getting their money first. I'd bet they are cutting some deals that would make a used car salesman swoon.

Nancy in NC| 11.1.10 @ 9:09AM

I read in this mornings paper that a higher percentage of Dems in NC have voted than Republicans. That does not bode well for our future.
The takers do not want their handouts to end, and they will continue to vote for those who have sold our country out.
And if all else fails, they will find a way to cheat at the ballot box.

Pete| 11.1.10 @ 11:28AM

I would suggest that this, in and of itself, is evidence that the cheating has already begun. When early actuals are radically different than polls, something more than fishy is going on. Bank on it.

RCV| 11.1.10 @ 12:37PM

What's going on isn't fraud but organization. In 2008, we built the best, most technologically sophisticated precinct-level political organization that America has ever seen. It was what elected Obama in 2008. It has been maintained since then and will be quite effective in getting out the vote, which will make the difference in places like Nevada. You can murmer fraud all you want, but that's a fact.

Erik the Red| 11.1.10 @ 2:25PM

We've seen your wonderful ground organization at work in Cincinnati already when the High School students were bussed to the polling station (during school hours of course) and given sample ballots (all democrats) and then told to go vote. Yep.....no corruption there. You should be proud!

Sam Vaughn| 11.1.10 @ 3:23PM

Nancy, my apologies. You are a frequent visitor to this site. Don't listen to the major newspapers. If they are anyting like my hometown paper the editor is on the Journolist.....

bob| 11.2.10 @ 12:24AM

This is propoganda, that is why you heard so much of it. There is 6.2 million registered voters in NC. 45% are Dems and 32% are Rep. The number that wasn't stated is that 24% are unaffliated or Independents. Just because a higher number of Dems early voted means nothing especially in this state. The Independents and how they voted will determine. No numbers were given on them. They determine the outcome. They are who elected Obama and who will not elect Elaine Marshall. Inds usually break for the opposition party in a Mid Term and with this economy expect it more then 2 to 1.

bob | 11.2.10 @ 12:48AM

Also in NC there is alot of Blue-Dog Dems. Real Fiscal Conservatives. So Reps can expect at least about 10 to 12% of the Dem vote, plus at least 16% of the Indp vote. So just for Burr he can expect at minimal 52% of the vote for reelection on Tuesday. Marshall 47% but probably less. But the House seats will depend on Repl and Indp turnout in each district.

Anthony| 11.1.10 @ 9:33AM

We, the great unwashed, know enough about science and fear to know that Anthropogenic Global Warming is the greatest scientific hoax ever perpetuated on humankind.
Obozo is right, people don't think clearly when scared, so what's his excuse, and that of Algore's and the rest of the leftist intelligencia's?
A.G.W. is, as has been said, an idea so stupid that only an intellectual could buy into it.
These clowns may think they're intellectuals, but in reality, they are world class jackasses. Maybe Obozo and Kerry will take a 2nd look at the "science" that came out of East Anglia and the U.N.'s ICC. Or maybe they're too scared.
We are indeed scared, but tomorrow will begin to put an end to our fears. Unfortunately for Obozo and the Ds, their nightmare is just beginning.

canuckistani| 11.1.10 @ 12:31PM

And then what?
2/3 of the economy is consumer spending. Consumers get their money from working at jobs that are not competitive with the developing world.

Where are the jobs to come from without structural changes and incentives to invest?

Cutting taxes has never stimulated job growth, but supporting the conditions for investment has.

American companies have already made the calculation it is better to outsource and rely on the consumer to make their numbers. They know it is a game of dimishing returns, but their short-term profit requirements ignore the facts that the US is becoming less and less reliable to drive receipts.
Personal tax rates have almost zero to do with outsourcing: cost of healthcare, wages and environmental regs, and the unfettered access to capital are the drivers.

If the education of the base worker was the driver, then Mexico and Indonesia would have zero industry.

The paradox is this: a precipitous decline in the base wage will make the US more competitive, but the corresponding drop in demand at the US consumer-level will drive down the basic revenues needed for companies to sustain themselves.

I truly believe the electorate will learn for themselves that complex issues that have taken years to mature cannot be solved with billboard solutions in the next two.

Doctor Right| 11.1.10 @ 12:45PM

You labor under the misconception that companies exist to provide employment.

Here's a clue" They exist to turn a profit for their shareholders.

That they actually hire anyone is incidental. The cost of an employee is offset by increased profits.

US companies have "outsourced" because of punitive tax laws as well as the unreasonable demands of union labor, both skilled and unskilled.

In a truly global market, the over-paid line-worker in Kokomo, Indiana needs to understand that the guy in Calcutta can do his job for less than half the price, and if he wants his job to stay in Kokomo, he needs to increase his value to the company.

These are BASIC economic facts; obviously, you don't get it.

What a shock...

Al Adab| 11.1.10 @ 3:15PM

1. Decrease costs to business: reduce regulation; eliminate health care mandate; lower taxes on goods and services.

2. Lower tax burden on employee. = increased purchasing power.

3. Eliminate mandates which increase the costs of goods and services i.e. auto milage mandates; insurance mandates; environmental regulatory mandates.

4. Eliminate burdensome government agencies i.e. OSHA, EPA, et al.

5. Eliminate capital gains tax to increase investment.

6. Eliminate estate tax to increase savings.

Dale Cord| 11.1.10 @ 12:49PM

Obama is not ruffled in the slightest! He is able to remain calm, cool and collective because, he has George Soros money backing him. He already knows the voting polls will be fixed in his favour. Just as they have been in the past with F.D.Rs , J.F.Ks elections that were bought and paid for by the fortune made by Joseph Kennedy Sr., through prostitution, bootlegging, and many other criminal activities. L.B.J s, Bill Clinton's, and the Bushes elections were made possible, by the Italian Mafia’s money operating their illegal businesses here for decades now. The corruption in our government has infected every aspect of our lives, and just as a lethal dose of poison or contagious disease like the Bubonic plague. It will bring down our country and, great will be our fall. Read your history books and you will find that every great nation, that has become intoxicated with immoral behaviour and oblivious to others needs for survival has, become ashes and fodder for the next generation of fools.

Perusha| 11.1.10 @ 1:56PM

Regarding canuckistani's post---

|You write,

“American companies have already made the calculation it is better to outsource and rely on the consumer to make their numbers. They know it is a game of dimishing (sic) returns, but their short-term profit requirements ignore the facts that the US is becoming less and less reliable to drive receipts.”

Two words demonstrate your lack of an education about economics, and indeed, your whole freakish take epitomizes the nihilistic outlook of the left that is in thrall to demand side Keynesian economics---

“consumer”---so, you think companies RELY on them to “make their numbers”? Let’s see, lets just sell the hell out of our products, and make the “consumer” happy, but who cares if we make a profit? STUPID!!!

“receipts”---again, you believe the US success hinges on being “reliable” to these, and the US isn’t SELLING enough in America? FOOL!!!

RELIANCE on only top line numbers---SALES---to the detriment on bottom line numbers---PROFITS---is a guarantee of: bankruptcy!

Actually, we can truthfully be thankful for your superficial “analysis”, because it encapsulates, to an annihilating degree, exactly what Obama and his cheating partners in economic---and political!!!---crime are all about: in our face, in complete daylight, even!

Well, you can only SELL your country at a price below production costs for so long, and, baby, we’ve reached the point where a majority of PRODUCERS have seen their own bottom line profits approaching---ZERO, and even less than that.

Humankind used to think that using leeches to suck out blood was good medical procedure, and even that simply cutting a vein to release the “evil” infected blood was necessary. Why, this was CW, I believe, around the time America was founded, which, as I get older, doesn’t really seem that long ago.

Guess who you, canuckistani, are “relying” on for your SALE? Where’s the profit in taking you seriously?

About the use of living long---I arrived in 1942, and like all humans, born with a blank and fresh slate and start, past history was NOT very relevant, except, of course, for that past of my parents and their parents,

So, as I became near adult age, my interest went back to mom’s 1910 birth year. But, let time fly, and all of a “sudden”, every year that slipped by added to my own extended family of “past” interests.

Simply put, using basic math, compare my own 68-year life span to America’s from 1776, say. Let’s see---68/234 = 29%. And when, not if, I reach 100---I have great genes and a healthy lifestyle (haha!)---I’ll have lived almost 38% of the USA!

In a similar time framing fashion, though, let me riff on a sports dimension.

When I was 18, in 1960, I vividly remember the Pittsburgh Pirates upsetting the New York Yankees. 50 years ago!!! ESPN interviewed Bill Mazeroski, who won the series in the seventh inning with a walk off home run—what an OLD MAN, now!

Well, I STILL have the ability to invoke feelings and such from then, but if the TV in 1960 had been able to “interview” some dude, who in 1910---my mother’s year of birth---was as famous as the Maz, why I’d have been totally uninterested, wondering who that old man was!

Basta!

I wish to take serious exception to a reoccurring theme in several of your recent posts. The nightmare of all nightmares would be for us to cease resolving our differences at the ballot box. If it comes to that, all that we know and hold dear will be lost. We do not live in a vacuum, once unleashed the breakdown inherent in the taking up of arms will consume us in anarchy. Setting things right would take a generation if it can be accomplished at all.

Yes we are frustrated yes they are acting outside of the law and the constitution but there are a number of remedies detailed in the constitution that will right this situation well short of armed conflict with our fellow citizens. The system of checks and balances is slow by design. We did not get ourselves to this point over night and we will right things rapidly.

If the sad time should ever come that we have no other option, and a fervently pray that we never reach such a hopeless turn of events, I will do what must be done in defense of my family and their freedoms. We are nowhere near that point. To the contrary we have cause for great optimism. This nightmare revealed itself for what it was shortly after the election and in the space of a few short months the people recognizing it for what it is rose up in resistance. Tomorrow we will take the first step in turning back the socialists. As I said earlier it will not be easy and it will not happen quickly but through peaceful application of our constitutional rights. With vigilance and hard work we will in the long run prevail.
Respectfully please let us continue to celebrate what differentiates us from most of the rest of the world, our unbroken history of the peaceful transfer of power and let us cease this talk of taking up arms.

No matter what happens in the election on Tuesday, all of us will wake up as citizens of the greatest nation on earth. The Republic will endure, and life -- our very privileged, wonderful life in these United States -- will go on just fine, thank you. Don't let the naysayers and those who constantly put down America tell you otherwise. Life is good. The Union endures.

Shhhhhh ! Obama LawBoy thinks he's lecturing the leftists over at HuffPo.

No, Tim, as John Stewart said at the rally, we know these are just hard times, not end times. Life is too good to become apocalyptic like the screamers on this site.

"President Obama said the public is at fault if Democrats don't do well in tomorrow's election."
-------------------------------------------------------------
Is he ever correct? Short answer: No. When the Dims do poorly tomorrow, the public won't be at fault. The country's founders are at fault by making this a Representative Republic, allowing us the power to rule from the bottom-up. Much to the dismay of elitists everywhere, both here and abroad, we are about to remind these arrogant pricks who's in charge and it ain't them. The clowns in office that like to look down on the rest of us are just the hired help. We can fire them any time we want. It's time for some new staff.

I would also like to add that the Democrat's strategy seems to be to engage in adolescent name calling. I don't think most of these people on the left ever get out of Junior/Senior High emotionally. If you disagree with them on any topic, you are a bigoted, sexist, stupid, homophobic fear/war monger. It doesn't matter what the topic of conversation is. Their response is always the same.

Oh, and it's George Bush's fault! Obviously! What's the question? Does it matter?
