John Kerry Says: Elect a New People

Those in the cheap seats won’t be eligible.

Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry is frustrated. He recently spoke to the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce and complained that we are in “a period of know-nothingism in the country, where truth and science and facts don’t weigh in. It’s all short-order, lowest common denominator, cheap-seat politics.” He’d really like to elect a new people.

Now, that last bit — cheap-seat politics — is the kicker. How truly awful it must be for the Senate’s richest man — wealthier than the Senate’s Rockefeller — to have to put up with those of us in the cheap seats. Brahmins from Boston have been complaining about democracy since Thomas Jefferson was elected. And that Andrew Jackson fellow — talk about the cheap seats running things! When he was elected, mobs of frontiersmen — wild and woolly — descended on Washington. They nearly crushed the Hero of New Orleans in the mob scene at the White House reception on Inauguration Day, 1829. Bostonian John Q. Adams had left the White House that morning, unwilling to witness the triumph of the cheap seats.

Kerry was most gracious in addressing the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce, speaking in person to an audience that was not sitting in the cheap seats. The frosty aristocrat spends a lot of his time on the deck of his yacht — moored in Rhode Island to avoid the sky-high taxes that Kerry’s liberal friends impose on the cheap seat folks in Massachusetts.

Kerry was particularly incensed that his yeoman work on the Cap and Trade legislation had collapsed in the Senate. The House passed this unwisest of bills earlier this year. Many members of the House were forced to walk that plank by their leadership. Many of those who voted for Cap and Trade may not be returned next Tuesday. They will be especially vulnerable if their constituents mine coal, drill for oil, or manufacture anything at all.

Cap and Trade has been called an invitation to massive corruption by Britain’s former Chancellor of the Exchequer, Lord Lawson. Now, someone who sits in the House of Lords can hardly be accused of squatting down in one of those cheap seats Kerry despises. Lord Lawson says if you really want to deal with carbon emissions, tax carbon emissions. And give tax credits to the poor so they can cope. That’s not my preferred option, but it’s not Kerry’s, either.

What Cap and Trade would do, of course, is nationalize all American enterprise. It would have the federal government control all decisions about what to produce, where to produce it, when to produce, where to market it, and how.

This is the reason why Europeans — those smarter folks Kerry likes more than he likes our “know-nothing” voters — teasingly call the Greens watermelons: green on the outside, red on the inside.

Are we against science and truth merely because we object to Kerry’s Cap and Trade legislation? Bjorn Lomborg, the famed “Skeptical Environmentalist,” has said Cap and Trade is the worst way to go about dealing with Global Warming.

Even if we imposed Cap and Trade, with all of its ability to straightjacket the already paralyzed economy, Lomborg says it would result in barely a 1-degree difference in Global Warming by the end of this century.

Now, Lomborg agrees with Kerry that Global Warming is occurring. He agrees that it is a problem. And he agrees that some of all of it is man-caused. But he has produced a new documentary called “Cool It,” urging his fellow environmentalists to cool the rhetoric about Global Warming as an existential threat to the planet.

Lomborg’s thesis is subject to a lot of reasoned debate. You can tell Lomborg is liberal. One, he’s a Dane. Two, he calls the earth the planet. Only liberals call it the planet.

When John Kerry says we’ve abandoned science and truth, we can only ask: If the truth was so compelling, why did the environmentalists at the University of East Anglia’s Climate Research Unit have to perform their usual “tricks” to “hide the decline”?

The funniest part of Kerry’s anguished cry is his complaint that Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck are responsible for this rise in what he calls “know nothingism.” If you add all of Rush’s listeners — and they are legion — to all of Glenn Beck’s viewers, you still don’t come close to the tens of millions of voters who are expected tomorrow to render a verdict on Kerry liberalism.

So why doesn’t Kerry start his own TV show or go on radio? Why do you think Al Franken escaped from his sinking Hot Air America gig and snuck into the Senate on a disputed vote? It’s a lot easier to bloviate in the Senate than to attract and hold an audience. The only reason Kerry and Franken are sitting in the Senate is that its seats are not the cheaper seats.

John F . Kerry (a.k.a. "Thurston Howell, III") does NOT agree with Bjorn Lomberg; Kerry is FAR too stupid to understand the intricacies of climate science on either side of the debate.

This doltish dilletante is the poster-boy of the Liberal ruling class: arrogant, egotistical, dumb, and utterly unaccomplished (except when it comes to convincing wealthy heiresses to walk down the aisle.

His appeal to anyone other than his fellow patrons at the Newport Yacht Club is a complete mystery.

R Martin| 11.1.10 @ 3:22PM

I've always thought John Kerry and Teresa Heinz deserve each other--two pompous insufferable gits.

Consummate V's| 11.1.10 @ 3:38PM

His re-election bumper sticker unselfconsciously procalimed "Vote for John F. Kerry, he is better than you"

Alan Brooks| 11.1.10 @ 8:36PM

"Those in the cheap seats won't be eligible."

Then you wont have to worry about Communism.
And those in the cheap seats can lay up their treasures in Heaven.

Can't you make up your minds about what you want?

geokster| 11.2.10 @ 12:23AM

My standard poodle has a higher IQ than John Kerry. she's a really smart dog and he's a really stupid yankee.

Cathy| 11.3.10 @ 1:29PM

You've summed up my feelings precisely. I'd rather be represented by a citizen statesman who understands the assaults heaped upon me by an out of control government than a pompous buffoon such as John "I voted against it before I voted for it" Kerry.

drudge ette obama| 11.1.10 @ 6:28AM

Oh, Kerry... He's related to rich people but he couldn't make his own dime when he tried. He couldn't even make his cookie franchise company run in the black. Only when he married money (Tides Foundation supporter, Teresa Heinz) did he become moneyed. Much has been said about Kerry, but he's not too smart and Doctor Right, as usual, has it right

fbom0724| 11.1.10 @ 6:42AM

I believe the good Senator was looking in the mirror when he made those comments.
Let's see:
1. If we don’t immediately see their self-proclaimed truth we are know-nothings - Kerry
2. We are ‘unwashed’ – Couric
3. We are enemies – Obama
4. You have to read the bill to find out what is in it – Pelosi
5. Every month that we do not have an economic recovery package 500 million Americans lose their jobs. – Pelosi

This stuff really motivates me to vote for these self-appointed guardians of my future who believe they are in the majority. Now this may be a true statement if you never venture outside of the DC Beltway, go West of the Hudson or East of LA.

Now this quote is dead on the mark:
The object of life is not to be on the side of the majority, but to escape finding oneself in the ranks of the insane. – Marcus Aurelius

pete the mediocre| 11.1.10 @ 8:57AM

I believe Pelosi said we have to pass thebill to find out what's in it.
And she's one of the smart ones.

Houston Rao| 11.1.10 @ 12:23PM

Kinda like a stool test, isn't it? You gotta pass the feces to find out what is in it....

John| 11.1.10 @ 2:35PM

Actually East LA is comprised mainly with Hispanic Raider fans, not the kind of people who would agree with an idiot like Kerry about anything.

Yosemeti Sam| 11.1.10 @ 7:09AM

Thanks AS for the candid camera photo of Kerry - who BTW served in Vietnam and got dubious Purple Heart medals for having Ketchup stains - with Edwards.

Two PEN1-sponsored wax dummies waxing evermore on honor and integrity.

Two mensch - NOT!

LOL.

stmichrick| 11.1.10 @ 8:07AM

I think it was the Pew Research Center for the People and the Press (snif; of the Philadelphia Pews? snif!) who did a study finding the Rush Limbaugh listener to be more knowlegeable about current events than most other news media consumer groups.

http://people-press.org/report/?pageid=1795

Kerry counts on 'know- nothings' to get reelected.

Alice Moore| 11.1.10 @ 8:44AM

Is Thurston inadvertently biting the hand that pulls the lever for his party at election times? You raise a good question, stmichrick.

Much of the electorate that swept Obama and the Democrats to power was, in fact, composed of Know Nothings. There was the base of the party that we now know would really vote for a yellow dog. There were also the first timers who used American Idol criteria on voting for the president. The Independents fell for the rhetoric but, did no research.

So Senator Kerry, be very careful of insulting your base. The Tea Party is doing their research.

stmichrick| 11.1.10 @ 9:11AM

Exactly, Alice.

So much was made of the persona (young, black, clean, articulate) of Obama that the underlying political character was of no interest to a good percentage of the hordes that voted for him.

Not that they would have known why it was undesirable to elect a socialist during an economic downturn.

Louis Jenkins| 11.1.10 @ 8:27AM

Couric, Kerry, et al., does what they do best. They call us names and lable the sane constituency. Time to throw the bums out and not look back. And Dr. Right, I think the woman was the one who convinced the hippy to walk down the aisle. Kerry doesn't know which end is up.

Dai Alanye | 11.1.10 @ 9:09AM

At least Kerry came by his wealth honestly, doing the hard work involved in marrying two rich women.

stmichrick| 11.1.10 @ 9:15AM

That's true Dai. Not everyone can travel in those circles and score with those women.

One of the perks of power, I guess.

Anthony| 11.1.10 @ 9:09AM

After Reid goes down tomorrow, this pompus puke is next. We "unwashed" may indeed know "nutten", according to Lt. Mustard, who married Countess Ketchup, but we knew instinctively that Kerry and Edwards were and remain world class frauds. What do you see in the mirror each morning Francois?
The "Kennedy" seat has been taken and next in line is this "Lurch" seat. It's time for America to send "can I get me here a hunt'en license?" Kerry back to France where he belongs.
Maybe when we finally get Obozo's birth certificate and his college transcripts, we'll get this war hero's medical records.

Cuffs| 11.1.10 @ 9:39AM

Kerry, who served in Vietnam and threw someone else's medals over the wall has
got to be the laziest & most vapid man in Washington, except when marrying money--Thorne and Heinz.
What an opportunistic bastard!

Petronius| 11.1.10 @ 10:05AM

J F***ing Kerry should read the first chapters of H. L. Mencken's Prejudices Volume III. The sage of Baltimore was writing about him. He wants to eliminate me, yet I'm the "know nothing". To this, only the eloquence of one Bart Simpson is apt.
Hey Kerry! Eat My shorts!

Stammon| 11.1.10 @ 10:11AM

Wait a minute. I'm a Republican Conservative, A Dane, and I use the word Planet, as in "Dumbest thing on the Planet", AKA John Kerry.

Kerry is just a lying weasel. He is a know nothing rich kid who thinks he is better than you. I know: I went to New England Prep Schools and had my fill of that lot 40 years ago.

mames| 11.1.10 @ 10:14AM

There is no man cheaper than one that marries for money - that's why he is so intimate with the cheap seats. If you doubt me ask yourself if y0u know ANYONE who could romantically love or even go to bed with that shrew of a wife of his for anything less than say 1 billion? :) We already know what he is and we know his price. The only thing sadder is a electorate stupid enough to vote for him and we know those can only be found in post modern Mass.

Patrick| 11.1.10 @ 5:18PM

Throw in some hideous giant puppets and (equally hideous) wymynprysts, and you got a deal.

hunter| 11.1.10 @ 10:26AM

But he looks French.....

chris.haynes| 11.1.10 @ 10:34AM

Senator Kerry should team with Karl Rove, Lugar, Hatch. Condoleeza Rice, Gates, Powell, President Obama

They agree on what's important, which is who's important.

Roadbuilder| 11.1.10 @ 10:43AM

As Robert Moses said of John Lindsey,"When you elect a matinee idol for mayor (or senator or president) you get musical comedy government."

Steve A| 11.1.10 @ 10:55AM

Does anyone actually care what "John Kerry Says??"

uncle curmudgeon| 11.1.10 @ 12:45PM

I do. This fool's desire for a "new people" leaves the help with the messy task of disposing of the old people. Two time-honored methods suggest themselves: the camps; the wall. So, friends, here's the choice we face tomorrow: 1) kneeling before the trench with our thumbs wired behind our backs as some minion snaps another round into the still smoking chamber; or, 2) keep the people we've got and elect a new Senate. Number 2 is certainly a lot less messy, and it has the added advantage of being the legal option. Please join us tomorrow as we take the first step of this journey of ten thousand miles. Let Kerry sleep in the bed he has made (Eeeuughhh!). We have lives to live, those of free-born men and women, and the greatest country in history in which to live those lives. Let's have a good breakfast in the morning and get on with it.

GavInTucson| 11.1.10 @ 11:29AM

Who let Lurch out of the basement again?

Bill Hussein O'Stalin| 11.1.10 @ 12:37PM

I know enough not to throw someone else's military medals over the White House, then claim they were mine, then get caught lying when someone observed the medals in Kerry's Senate office.

That brings up the relevant question. Is someone who lies so easily to be trusted on any issue? In fact, wouldn't that make them a no-nothing since they can't be trusted to tell the truth?

PattyMor| 11.1.10 @ 3:01PM

Wake up Mass. voters and put this arrogant, bag of air out of the Senate and to retirement. He can console himself with his rich wife and go for a spin on his yacht.

james| 11.1.10 @ 3:47PM

Yes yes, of course. But please, let's remember that John Kerry is the 'richest man in the senate' because he has devoted his life to marrying other men's wives and spending other men's alimony and estate money. The only money he has ever made on his own also comes from others: taxpayers, who give him his 'cheap seats' senate salary.
Jan Schakowsky is the single worst person in all the congress, but this parasite and bounder is a very close second.

Patrick| 11.1.10 @ 5:24PM

Obviously you don't know much about "Crying" Gwen Moore. She even sent her (adult) kid to slash the tires of the GOP buses right before the 2004 election. Oh, and he's on the Jackass Party payroll.

Pat| 11.1.10 @ 4:01PM

First it was President Obama who recently claimed us Americans were just tail between our legs “fraidy cats”. As voters and consumers, we’re scared he said, we’re consumed with uncertainty and fear when it comes to taking economic risks and we just don’t understand all that he’s done for us in his quest to improve our economic well being. And why are you even reading this, why aren’t you at the mall – spending? And why are big corporations sitting on piles of cash when they should be building plants and stores everywhere? Don’t American corporations trust the President? Don’t they realize their wait and see attitude isn’t helping repair the economy and they should just trust him to do right by America and his dear friends in the private sector?

Now comes an American war hero, John Kerry, claiming us voters are “know nothings”. So, we’re both scared and stupid according to a sitting president and a former presidential wannabe. We’re not at the malls like we should be and we’re not buying into the global warming scam with its ugly stepchild, Cap and Trade, either.

Only the Democrats would feel free to insult every voter just before an election – you gotta admire their nerve, although their timing is questionable. And as for you Democrats running for office, you must realize Obama isn’t running for re-election and John Kerry is just running his mouth. So when your Democratic Party celebrities throw you under the bus right before an election, us voters have to wonder just exactly who the “know nothings” really are.

All Hail The Stupid Party!| 11.1.10 @ 4:45PM

Every time I see or hear The Grandmaster Of Pomposity, John Kerry-Heinz I always think of the hilarious Black Adder episode "Sense & Senility". This is the episode where The Prince Of Wales hires two idiotically pompous actors to teach him to recite a speech (B.O. anyone?). Every time the name Mac Beth is mentioned they do a stupid, but utterly hilarious act of exorcism to get rid of the evil spirits brought about by the mention of, "a play connected with Scotland!" If you have never seen it, watch it on youtube. You'll wet your pants, it's so funny. Think of Lurch Kerry when the stupid actors exorcise the evil spirits.

Ken (Old Texican)| 11.1.10 @ 5:31PM

Ladies and gentlemen, (folks)

Mr. Kerry has forgotten my world-class historian/economist, best friend.....

My best friend stated 40 years ago..and stands by it today.
"One bullet kills a dictator."

Stan Allen | 11.1.10 @ 7:47PM

Do you remember when Kerry was running, and at the party convention nominating him the candidate, Teresa Heinz got up and started addressing the audience in French, as though it were some meaningful display of global sophistication?
Talk about rule by the elites! I thanked God that the Kerry presidency did not come to pass, and I'm still grateful that he will probably never get to run for the presidency again - but that sure hasn't stopped his condescending, whiny shtick.

jstwndring| 11.1.10 @ 10:43PM

Yeah. What exactly was she saying in french? Let them eat cake?

RedneckWhiteskinBluecollar| 11.1.10 @ 8:41PM

In addition to being a coward, a liar, a traitor (see Swift Boaters), and a gigolo, John Kerry is also ignorant.

He misuses the phrase "know-nothingism" as if it refers to literal lack of knowledge. But anyone who knows even a little American history associates "know-nothingism" with the 19th century anti-immigration faction. They were called "know nothings" because of the secretiveness of their organization.

Kerry is certainly one of the most despicable and useless men ever to have run for president.

jstwndring| 11.1.10 @ 10:38PM

"a period of know-nothingism in the country, where truth and science and facts don't weigh in."
-----------------------------------------------------------
Truth and science? Really? You mean, like the truth of AGW? Evidence please? I'm sorry John, did you say something? All I hear are the crickets chirpping. Ok, how about an easier one? How about the Cambrian Life Explosion? No? Don't be embarrassed John, your prophet Darwin couldn't explain it either. Although, that was 150 some odd years ago. Surely, they've found the evidence since! Oh......Ummm.....crap. Still no evidence? Well, let's not let the facts get in the way of a good story! Or, our insane ideology! Onward with the.....what did you call it? Oh yes, the *ahem* truth. Wow. Just...........................wow.

Three Purple Hearts, was it? Four months? Swift boated? Still bitter? ;)

shipley130| 11.13.10 @ 1:40PM

Well, I know that the man he is so happily embracing, John Edwards, is a pig. We dodge a pig run with that one. Unfortunately, we got a communist run now. Republicans better make 2012 a ringer or we are in trouble.
