$900 Million for What?

Our tax dollars at work for a murderous and corrupt gang of thugs.

Israeli media watchdog Itamar Marcus makes a career of following the Palestinian press. His website provides timely and accurate translations of the Arabic language broadcasts and publications that are watched and read by the Palestinian public on the West Bank of the Jordan River and in the Gaza Strip. It’s well worth our while as Americans to pay more attention to what the so-called Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) is doing. That’s because we American taxpayers are footing the bill for much of it. President Obama and Sec. Hillary Clinton have promised $900 million in U.S. funds to the PLO, our supposed “peace partners” in the latest round of Mideast peace talks.

One story is typical of the PLO approach to peace. Late last year, a 45-year-old rabbi, father of seven, was ambushed in his car by four members of the Palestinian Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigade. Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) located three of the killers and killed them.

Here’s what our peace partner, the PLO’s Mahmoud Abbas, did then:

PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas declared the killers “Shahids” (holy Martyrs) and sent his personal emissary to visit the families:

Secretary General of the President’s Office, Tayeb Abd Al-Rahim, conveyed condolences on behalf of President Mahmoud Abbas to the residents of Nablus and to the families of the three Shahids [Martyrs] for the Martyrdom of their sons, who were assassinated by Israeli occupation forces yesterday morning. He conveyed to the fighting families letters of condolences from the President [Abbas] and updated them as to [Abbas’s] decision to declare them as Shahids [Martyrs] of the Palestinian revolution…”

Tayeb Abd Al-Rahim: “Without doubt, what the [Israeli] occupation authorities have carried out is a wild and barbaric act and a deliberate, malicious assassination in cold blood.

Our tax dollars at work. Mahmoud Abbas and Tayeb Abd Al-Rahim are part of the notoriously corrupt organization that runs the West Bank. It’s called the Palestinian Authority, but it remains to be seen how much authority it actually has. Abbas has declined to hold scheduled elections, fearing that Hamas, which won overwhelmingly in Gaza, would win on the West Bank, too. So, with U.S. financial and diplomatic support, Abbas clings to power.

He’s a regular and honored visitor to the Obama White House. This is a man whose entire career was made as faithful lieutenant to Yasser Arafat. Arafat won the Nobel Peace Prize for his famed “handshake” with Israel’s Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin in a deal brokered by then-President Bill Clinton. Arafat is the one who invented airline hijacking for terror purposes. Soon after shaking hands with Rabin, Arafat was up to his old tricks.

He instigated yet another of his intifadas — uprisings — sparked by Arab teenagers throwing stones, with deadly accuracy, at Israeli soldiers. If the Arab boys are shot and killed by the IDF soldiers defending themselves — so much the better. Abbas has more “martyrs” to celebrate and the PLO gets some favorable TV coverage in the credulous Western media.

The United States has been pursuing a phantom for more than twenty years. We have bought into the fiction that the Arafat-Abbas clique — this so-called Palestinian Authority— is something other than what it is: a murderous and corrupt gang of thugs.

The errors in U.S. foreign policy in this region are bipartisan. It was the first Bush administration that sought to extend an olive branch and an open hand of friendship to the Arafat-Abbas gang in 1989. We were told then that if the PLO would just give up its campaign of terrorism against the Israelis, acknowledge the right of Israel to exist, then the United States would help the impoverished Palestinian people with development funds and sponsor their path to statehood.

The PLO never gave up its plans. To this day, the destruction of Israel remains a goal of the PLO. The PLO “leaders” can readily tell us they renounce terrorism because they don’t consider the murder of Israeli citizens — in pizza parlors, in schools, in hospitals — to be terrorism. They call it resistance and they call those who are killed on these strikes shahids — martyrs.

It’s time for Americans to take a cold look at what twenty years of takkiya — the Arabic word for deception — have gotten us. President Reagan left office in 1989. He spoke about our dealings with the then-Soviet Union. He hoped for peace, and he said, “Trust, but verify.” He said one more thing we need to apply to our role in the Mideast: “Don’t be afraid to see what you see.”

I look at the latest round of bogus peace talks and I see a discredited PLO boss sitting down to make promises to the Israelis he has no intention of keeping. If he actually did keep those promises, he would be murdered by his own cutthroat followers.

I see American honor stained, American power diminished, and American money wasted.

What do you see?

I, too, see what you see. A shameful waste of taxpayer money aiding an enemy, not only Israel but also America. When will this Administration wake up and face reality?

Alan Brooks| 10.15.10 @ 9:17AM

All I disagree with is anyone (am not saying you) writing or hinting that Muslims in America are generally part of jihad when they are no better or worse than any others here.

Steve A| 10.15.10 @ 9:51AM

Alan, Never thought I would say this, but, I agree with you.

Margie| 10.15.10 @ 3:22PM

Actually I'd say 99.9% of the people who post here have never said that. What we have said is that Islam is and it's evil koran's writings where it states to "Kill the infidels" is the enemy to America. And that those who believe it are as well.

Rev. Jesse Jackson| 10.15.10 @ 4:02PM

Alan Brooks,
Go back to yesterday's special report, "Internet Freedom Under Siege", where you said that, "God is a woman and Jesus is his daughter." I have a rebuttal there waiting for you.

David C| 10.15.10 @ 12:14PM

Obama did a good job of hiding what he thought and what he would do (if elected) concerning Israel and her mortal enemies.

America needs a leader. Are we ready for a leader who will call evil, evil? Or do we need his true intentions hidden and exercised after election?

I hope we are ready for Reagan II. Whose power came from a consistent unflinching position posited over several decades.

Stammon| 10.15.10 @ 6:46AM

I see a business. Mush like the Mafia or the Mexican drug gangs, these PLO criminals have figured out a way to live off of gullible fearful people. Easy fix, cut off the money. tell them to go pound sand until they sit down and come to an agreement with the Israelis. If they start trouble, cut off the money again. The rich Oil-Arabs won't help them, they think the Palestinians are human trash anyway.
You get what you pay for, you pay for indolent, violent, troublesome terrorists, you get today's Palestine.

I wrote to Senator stabenow of Michigan (yes, I know I have a lower case "s" which illustarates my contempt for this brain-damaged pol and finger-puppet of harry reid) demanding an explanation on why we are sending $900 million to this terrorist gang. I received a wonderful reply that could have been written by Martha Stewart or Julia Child describing the plight of the poor, struggling, missunderstood.... You get the message. I still have a vivid image in my memory of those people dancing in the streets when they were told of the 9/11 attack on the New York. The only supplies I would send Palestinians would be birth-control pills.

Just remember November 2nd. Don't take anything for granted. These demothieves will attempt to steal this election; so get out and vote. And stabenow, you're NEXT.

Have a safe weekend all,

Good article but needs a couple of corrections: "It was the first Bush administration that sought to extend an olive branch and an open hand of friendship to the Arafat-Abbas gang in 1989." No, it started with Reagan's secretary of state, George Schultz. "Soon after shaking hands with Rabin, Arafat was up to his old tricks. He instigated yet another of his intifadas -- uprisings -- sparked by Arab teenagers throwing stones, with deadly accuracy, at Israeli soldiers." No, you're thinking of the First Intifada, which ran from 1987 to about 1992--before Oslo, while Arafat was still in Tunis. Very soon after Arafat's handshake with Rabin and move to the West Bank, suicide bombings and other murderous terror began in earnest. There is no name for this--it happened from late '93 to '96. The Second Intifada began in late 2000, similar to the Oslo '93-'96 terror but even worse in scope.

Intelligent Design| 10.15.10 @ 8:50AM

Obama, Hillary Clinton, et. al. are giving aid and comfort to the enemy, while billing the U.S. taxpayers. They send our soldiers to die fighting terrorists, while at the same time sending aid to the terrorists, and ignoring thousands of potential terrorists who are walking into the U.S. across the Mexican border.

hunter| 10.15.10 @ 8:54AM

The only way to end all this crap, is when some punk throws a rock at me, when I have a gun is simple. Shoot the little bastard, then he won't grow up to be a big bastard with little bastards of his own. It is ok to do that. That is why God gave us guns and allah gave the little bastards rocks. Killem all, send the little martyrs to allah and the waiting virgins. Not one damm penny!

RacerJim| 10.16.10 @ 10:43AM

Exactly!

RightIsWrong| 10.16.10 @ 4:03PM

Exactly!? Wow, like believing God sent himself or was it his son to a virgin only to die and then come back only to do nothing for the next 2000 years, not to mention not doing anything before that, besides poopin the planet out his rear end. so that we could call other people little bastards

George F Somsel| 10.19.10 @ 11:10AM

I understand your outrage; however, you don't shoot "little bastards" who throw rocks at you in order to prevent them from growing into "big bastards." I would favor a continuance of aid to the Palestinians based on the proviso that not one cent will be received by them in the following month after any incident of suicide bombing, guerilla attacks or rock throwing. It would then be in their financial best interests to learn to behave as human beings rather than vicious animals.

Louis Jenkins| 10.15.10 @ 9:29AM

I'd just as soon be robbed at gunpoint. Result is the same.

Texas Mom 2012| 10.15.10 @ 9:41AM

Hope this is added to the defunding list. It is appalling that we continue to send aid to these monsters. I agree that we should cease all aid including food aid until
1. The PLO recognizes Israel as a sovereign state.
2. The PLO stops sponsoring acts of terrorism and ceases propaganda activities marketed to children via cartoons.

I am sure the list could be improved by someone with more direct knowledge but this could be a start especially #1.
As they meet conditions, aid could begin to trickle back and cut every time conditions are broken.

Don't care about the children in the instance because the adults in their culture send them out to be martyrs, they should be the people responsible for raising their own martyrs not the American taxpayer!

Ned| 10.15.10 @ 10:37AM

No "until" - just cease all aid to the Palestinians. Inform their "Arab brothers" that any assistance is entirely up to them from this moment on, but that we will be supporting the Israelis in their efforts to embargo weapons and explosives. After Iran, that powder keg is the second largest source of instability, hate, anger, and terrorism in the world. North Korea being third, but we're not paying for their welfare "state".

Ed H| 10.15.10 @ 11:07AM

Not just a sovereign state, but they must recognize Israel as a sovereign Jewish state. They probably will never recognize Israel as a sovereign state (at least not unless they are lying about it), but the fall back position is to recognize it as a sovereign state and then work with the Arab Israeli population to make it into an Arab state somewhere in the future.

MoeBlotz| 10.15.10 @ 10:10AM

No money, keep our PC noses out of the whole affair. Israel will take care of the rest by annihilating the bad guys and peace will arrive until the the punks start throwing rocks again..

Mike W| 10.15.10 @ 10:41AM

I saw the headline regarding the U.S. sending money to murderous terrorist thugs and I thought they must be referring to Israel. Then I saw that the dollar amount was only 900 million dollars and that is chump change compared to what we give Israel.

Dixie Pixie| 10.15.10 @ 10:48AM

Gentlemen, It is my belief our relationship with the PLO is nothing less than “Cognitive Dissociation”.
That and the particularly America Ruling Class belief that a person, group or national leadership can be controlled by putting them on the payroll.

Cognitive Dissociation is simply the mental ability to keep two or more blatantly conflicting concepts mentally separate through dubious rationalization. Consider, the USA has spent more than Trillion dollars on the “Global War On Terror”, yet have not even inconvenienced the PLO which created modern terrorism.

In fact the USA supports the PLO because the PLO started blowing up US airliners and killing american personal. Yet the State Department always rationalized its behavior by insisting all incidences were separate events and thus were unrelated. The rationalizations have always been absurd, but are rarely challenged due to the skillfulness of construction. Thus the madness continues unabated.

The Ruling Class wants the PLO on the payroll because it believes it can control the PLO by yanking the money chain. So the PLO and the State Department are joined at the pocketbook and can't be separated less the State Department looses what little control it has over the PLO.

Strangely State Department has yet to understand the money chain can be pulled from both ends. So the PLO gives the USA rhetoric in exchange for money. The PLO is then free to act within US imposed limits knowing the USA has its back covered. Thus the GWOT goes on without hitting the original terrorists.

That is my theory on the curious relationship between the USA and the PLO.
Or does someone else have a better theory.

canuckistani| 10.15.10 @ 4:37PM

I've always believed the conflict there is just a battle site for larger interests. I do, however, side with Israel almost entirely when they seek to defend their interests. The Palestinians do not have an existential threat in their faces all of the time, neither do we, and it is our involvement that troubles me.
Alternatively, the money paid to Egypt has been increasingly effective at isolating Hamas in Gaza, to the point Mubarak has actively snubbed their requests. This may be the first indicator of the Arabs deciding the "enemy of my enemy is my friend" analog when considering a new Iranian hegemony at their doorsteps. The Hashemites are doing the same, is Syria far behind?
I think we are seeing the beginnings of an internacene battle within the Arab world where Shia influences are being measured daily. Wahabbi leaders in Saudi are openly demanding a purge of Shiites from the holy shrines, and emirates are uneasy about burgeoning Shia underclasses that populate their lands.
Follow the money there, it is closer to the truth.
In reality, a pacified PA for under a $1B is pretty cheap. We spent $1B A DAY at the height of Iraq, and seeing the ticker tape parade for A-jad in Shia South Lebanon was revealing and sobering.
The Arabs triumphalism after purging the Ottomans can be conjured again if Persia interferes.
I truly believe the time is now to strike a deal, build the walls higher and hunker down for the blood feud amongst the Muhameddans.

Dixie Pixie| 10.15.10 @ 4:54PM

OK, Canuckistani

Where is it written that we should fund all sides of a 14 century old blood feud.
More importantly when does the USA stop paying for this madness.

40% of all Federal spending is borrowed money.
The USA simply does not have the money to continue the international bribery.

canuckistani| 10.15.10 @ 5:50PM

Agreed, but it's still cheaper than a military "solution".
I am skeptical that AIPAC will allow a new orthodoxy to infiltrate our F Policy there, and the uneasy tango with Riyadh is a dicey enterprise.
Watching Medvedev with Chavez and Brazil aligned with Turkey and Iran is curious, but I'm not sure if it means anything important yet.
China's mischief in the currency markets and the arctic are also more important than Israel to us.
Make the deal and focus on more important threats to US projection.

On another matter, when and where is your book due out in paperback?

Ken (Old Texican)| 10.15.10 @ 6:35PM

Hi Dixie
I published the book as an E-book. Screw the tree-killing printers. (Heh, a little nod to the greenies).

You can download it to your computer...or anything else that takes PDF...and you own it. $10 and get ready to wet your pants.
check it out www.texassaidno.com

Greetings Ken
I hope to see your book sales soar.

As a traditional conservative, I feel a book is not a book unless it is printed upon paper.
Otherwise it is just another ephemeral computer file not a evenings pleasure.
Thus my question.
Please tell me when your book hits Amazon.com.

Question, Does the NWT track E-Book sales?

"Don't be afraid to see what you see" 21 years after Reagan left office I am still learning what a great man and President he was. How did we fall so far so fast ?

Mike| 10.15.10 @ 11:57AM

Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was willing to broker peace with Palestine even when the current negotiations were breaking down. He was willing to do so on the condition that Palestine simply recognize Israel as a country and as such the right to exist. If Palestine was really serious about peace negotiations with Israel they would have gladly accepted Netanyahu's proposal and then proceed toward a Palestinian statehood and strive to live peaceably, in coexistence, with their Israeli neighbor.

But the PLO and Hamas have no intention of recognizing Israel's sovereignty, or even their existence, even as evidenced by Palestine's latest refusal to accept Benjamin Netanyahu's generous offer and proposal. The money that our U.S. government gives to Palestine, where much of it ends up in the hands of Hamas, shows you just how mixed up and wrongly prioritized our government officials in Washington D.C. have become. We are essentially "funding" terrorists to continue their siege against our supposed friend and ally in the Middle East i.e. Israel. Why should the Palestinians broker peace with Israel when America gives Palestine hundreds of millions and even billions of dollars that not only helps to keep Palestine's economy afloat but also continues to supply the necessary weapons for the PLO and Hamas to continue to wage jihad (terrorism) against Israel?

I believe one of the main reasons the United States is currently facing our enormous economic and other problems is because the Barack Obama administration have essentially snubbed their noses in defiance toward Israel (stop building on your own land, etc.) and instead prefers to prop up Palestine as if they are somehow the "good" guys in this scenario. They are not, of course. Even as demonstrated by their continual "refusal" to accept the peace offers and proposal's extended by Israel and by their refusal to recognize Israel as a sovereign Nation and as such the right to exist. As well as by their ongoing terrorist strikes against Israel and the Jews to this day. Palestine is simply playing games with the United States and with Israel with no intention of peace, in my opinion, and are using the United States' monetary assistance as a continual funding source in their war of terrorism against Israel and the Jews as I previously stated. Plus as a means to stimulate their own economy and pad their own wallets. Until such a time, and with Iran's assistance most likely, they will brazenly try to wipe Israel off the face of the map at some point in the future. Peace?? No... because they hate Israel and they are too stubborn to change their ways, in my opinion, and therefore will never accept peace with Israel. The latest peace negotiations have proven that reality once again and the Muslim Qu'ran encourages and reinforces the violence against (in their minds) all the 'infidels' of Islam. Islam's main goal and purpose is to eventually "conquer" the whole world for Islam's Allah (as stated in the Qu'ran) - including the conquering and overthrow of Israel needless to say. If it takes a thousand more years what difference does that make to them? In the meantime, they have countries like the United States helping to fund their effort(s); as in the case with the Palestinians where much of the money we give them no doubt ends up in the hands of Hamas, the PLO, or other terrorists. God have mercy. Peace?? No... because they hate Israel and they are too stubborn to change their ways, in my opinion, and therefore will never accept peace with Israel. If the oil-soaked Saudis & Iranians weren't throwing their money to fund jihadist terrorists, they would have plenty of money to help the palestinians. US should immediately cease all aid to abbas for refusing to negotiate, and to Lebanon for loving ahmadinejad. Let those who danced in the street on 9/11 turn to bin laden for financial assistance.

Tony in Central PA| 10.15.10 @ 7:13PM

I wonder how many Palestinians ask themselves what life would have been like if their leaders had tried to get along with the Israelis at some point.

RCV| 10.17.10 @ 3:26PM

A very good question. The Palestinian Arabs have had no greater enemy than their own so-called "leaders", and no one is more responsible for their present day plight. When Britain was awarded the Palestine Mandate by the League of Nations with the express direction of "establishing a national home for the Jewish people" and responded by taking 2/3 of the Mandate territory and forming a new Arab state, Transjordan, for the Palestinian Arabs, they had a unique opportunity to cooperate in establishing a friendly relationship with the Jews in the remaining 1/3 territory. Some of their leaders, most notably King Abdullah of Jordan, favored such an approach. But stupider heads prevailed, led by the Mufti of Jerusalem, Haj Amin, a virulent anti-Judaic voice. The resultant Arab-Jewish enmity led cowardly Britain to renege on its commitment to the Jewish homeland.

In 1947, when the UN voted to carve two new states our of the remaining 1/3 of Palestine, one Jewish one Arab, the Palestinians remaining outside of Jordan had another golden opportunity, but Amin and the other self-interested "leaders" turned down the offer. Abdullah ended up seizing the West Bank in the ensuing war, and the Palestinians then could have transformed Jordan into a model Palestinian state cooperating with Israel. (Just imagine what could have resulted from a symbiotic Israeli-Arab pairing, with Israel's drive and technology and the Arab world's oil!)

At every junction, the Palestinian Arab leaders have betrayed the interests of their people and chosen strife and victimhood over life. Sad, indeed.

As soon as peace is mentioned Israel has new demands that they know won't be accepted by the other side.

They love war like the republicans in this country though, they have been saying the same things about Iran that they were saying before we invaded Iraq. This country is tired of war and fighting other people's fights.

jstwndring| 10.16.10 @ 4:34PM

We aren't coming out of nowhere to defend Israel. We do so loudly and proudly and always have. There is no secret conspiracy to hide our allegience. Those backroom, secret handshake deals are what Democrats put together with Islamofacists.

By the way, try looking at a map of the middle east for once and then justify why tiny little Israel should give up more land for the Palestinians, when they are surrounded by 22 Arab nations with many times more land who refuse to try to accomodate those they share a common herritage with.

Also, we don't love war, but we have no problem kicking the ass of anyone that wants to start a fight with us. So you are saying Israel doesn't have the right to defend herself? Why do those of you on the left always, and without exception, side with the facists of the world. And in this case, ironically, with right-wing facists in Islam?

Israeli Tax Dollars at Work

... the nation that still follows the commands of Leviticus 19:33-34:

And if a stranger sojourn with thee in your land, ye shall not vex him. But the stranger that dwelleth with you shall be unto you as one born among you, and thou shalt love him as thyself; for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the LORD your God.

“If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat….” (Proverbs 25:21). These are not empty words. Unlike Islamic nations who use the Palestinians as expendable pawns, Israel is committed to give to those in hunger. When Gaza crossings were closed by terrorist attack, or when Hamas refused to allow life-giving supplies to their own, or when Palestinians failed to cooperate in humanitarian efforts, Israel alone shouldered the burden. Recently the IDF even investigated the viability of coastal air and sea drops of emergency provisions. One particularly effective Israeli food delivery system has been a 220-meter long conveyor belt circumventing the key Karni Crossing.

“… and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink” (Proverbs 25:21). When Palestinians recently fled from Gaza into the desert, IDF soldiers reportedly opened their tanks and tossed them water bottles.

“Thou shalt love him as thyself” is the motto Israeli doctors follow without partiality as they treat both the Palestinian terrorist and his victims. However, some have understandable qualms: "I don't mind servicing wounded Palestinian patients because that's what we were taught to do, but it does bother me when the television news reports detail how many Jews were killed in an attack and the Palestinian patients break into cheers"....
