The Obama Watch

Obama’s War on America’s Seniors

To him it’s payback time — and worse.

Seniors citizens probably provided less support for President Obama in the 2008 election than any other voter bloc. That reflects the wisdom of age. But for President Obama, apparently it’s payback time, because he is conducting a comprehensive economic assault on America’s senior citizens.

First He Trashed Medicare

A Democrat campaign theme this fall is that those scary Republicans want to end Medicare as we know it. But that is not possible, because President Obama, Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, and the Democrats have already done that, in Obamacare.

The Chief Actuary for Medicare has publicly reported that the Medicare payment rates for the doctors and hospitals serving seniors will be cut by 30% over the next 3 years. By 2019, those Medicare payment rates will be lower than under Medicaid, which leaves the poor often unable to find doctors and hospitals willing to serve them. Medicare’s Chief Actuary reports that ultimately under Obamacare Medicare payment rates will be only one-third of what will be paid by private insurance and only half of what is paid by Medicaid. Good luck to Grandma in finding a doctor then.

If you like your doctor, you will be able to keep him, President Obama promised in trying to sell Obamacare to the nation. But the question under Medicare now, after Obamacare, is whether your doctor will be willing to keep you.

Last month’s Annual Report of the Medicare Board of Trustees revealed that Obamacare’s total cuts to Medicare run to over $1 trillion over the first 10 years of full implementation, and to nearly $5 trillion over the first 20 years. These are cuts for seniors who are already retired!

Ultimately, by the end of the Trustees’ Report projection period, Medicare Part A is cut by 60%. Medicare Part B is cut by 43%. Translation: this means the end of Medicare as we know it.

These are all primarily cuts in Medicare payments to the doctors and hospitals for the services, health care, and treatments they provide to the nation’s seniors. That includes hip and knee replacements, sophisticated diagnostics through MRIs and CT scans, treatment for cancer and heart disease, and the services and care from the specialists that keep seniors functional and alive. If the government is not going to pay, then seniors are not going to get the health services, treatment and care they expect.

Indeed, the Medicare Chief Actuary reports that even before these cuts two-thirds of hospitals were already losing money on Medicare patients. Health providers will either have to withdraw from serving Medicare patients, or eventually go into bankruptcy.

These draconian Medicare cuts were the basis for the CBO score repeatedly cited by President Obama that Obamacare would actually reduce the deficit while expanding or adopting three entitlement programs. Too bad the President never disclosed that in trying to sell Obamacare to the nation. Indeed, in his weekly radio address to the nation on August 14, it was these draconian Medicare cuts that President Obama was touting in lauding Obamacare for “adding at least a dozen years to the fiscal health of Medicare — the single longest extension in history.” (Only a dozen years because most of the money raided from Medicare is taken to finance Obamacare.) The President thinks he can play seniors for fools.

Obama’s Medicare policy is like trying to maintain our national defense by refusing to pay the people who make the tanks, the planes, the ships, the guns, the bullets, and the bombs. How long do you think our national defense would last under that policy? The same goes for Medicare now under Obamacare.

Contrast this policy atrocity with the proposed reforms to Medicare under Rep. Paul Ryan’s Roadmap for America. Ryan is the ranking Republican on the House Budget Committee who will become the Committee Chairman after this fall’s elections. The Congressional Budget Office has scored Ryan’s Roadmap as achieving full and permanent solvency for Social Security, full and permanent solvency for Medicare, and a permanently balanced federal budget, without tax increases.

Ryan’s Roadmap, which he fully explains in a website devoted entirely to the Roadmap, includes no cuts in Social Security or Medicare, or changes of any sort, for today’s seniors. The reforms apply only to those who are under age 55 today. For those future retirees, he would reform Medicare into Medicare Advantage for everyone. Medicare Advantage is the option already existing under Medicare allowing seniors to choose private insurance coverage for their benefits under the program, which nearly one-fourth of seniors have already chosen because it gives them a better deal.

Just as in Medicare Advantage today, future seniors under Ryan’s Roadmap would be able to use Medicare funds to choose from a wide range of private insurance options, including the highly beneficial and empowering Health Savings Accounts. The funding for these options would grow more slowly over time for higher income and healthier seniors, and so they would have to pay some more out of their pockets for the coverage. That is how the long-term Medicare financing gaps are closed and full solvency for Medicare achieved. Additional funding is provided, however, for low and modest income, and less healthy, seniors, so they are fully protected from any higher costs.

But this is too much filthy capitalism for President Obama, and his modern new socialist Democrats, so they wrongly trash it. But unlike Obamacare’s wild and irresponsible Medicare cuts, this is a carefully designed and structured reform plan, which is far better for future seniors, taxpayers, and America.

Despite this reality, seniors will continue to vote Democrat because they believe the lie that Democrats "care" about them. And too many seniors rely on the mainstream media for their information, so they'll never know the truth. To top it off, when their doctors turns them away, they'll blame Republicans.

Tom| 9.15.10 @ 8:02AM

Seniors hardly vote as a Democrat block. In the last 3 presidential elections they went Gore, Bush, McCain. There is no reason why they would not vote Republican if the arguments for doing so were properly delivered.

Richard| 9.15.10 @ 11:44AM

Are your kidding? Seniors are better informed, more politically motivated, and wealthier than the rest of the population. They are not a Democrat voting bloc.

Vicki| 9.15.10 @ 4:50PM

I know a few of those type of seniors, but I know more of the seniors who do their research, look a foxnews, rush, etc...and don't fall for that BS.
So, you're right and not all right though.

Texas Mom (and Daughter)| 9.16.10 @ 12:26PM

My senior parents do not have cable or internet but they do watch a lot of the Christian TV shows like John Hagee. They get all the info they need about what Obama is doing from these networks that are available over the free airways. I would be willing to bet that many of our seniors also watch these shows.

Roy E Rees| 9.15.10 @ 5:52PM

TO DARIN; I wrote a little piece and your comment is included: Tell me what you think.
Lets vote him out!
The SENIORS were the target.
MEDICARE was our life-line.
The LIFELINE is being cut.
SPLICING wont fix it and he don't care!
NOW the seniors need help!
TREASON IS THE GAME...
OBAMA IS THE NAME!
LETTERS were sent and the traiters won't stop!

READERS have agreed ...Conservatives are the fix.
TREASON IS THE GAME
OBAMA IS THE NAME!
DEMOCRATS are the problem
WHEN we go down the Republicans will be to blame!
TREASON IS THE GAME
OBAMA IS THE NAME!
GRANDMA & GRANDPA paid into Medicare & S. S. to help with retirement!
AND what did the government do....took the money for pork projects!
TREASON IS THE GAME
OBAMA IS THE NAME!
THEYtalked our parents into S. S. & medicare & now take it away....the government didn't make promises. They got our money & squandered anyway
NOW, TREASON IS THE GAME
AND OBAMA IS THE NAME!

I'd like to see someone rewrite this and put music to it. Maybe our fired school coach would be interested! Signed; RoyfromKs.

Emma| 9.15.10 @ 9:40PM

No, Seniors will not "continue to vote Democratic." DH and I are well in to the Seniors category, and have never voted deathocratic. We have always known the dems were lying. They's always lcaimed that that the republicans were going to destroy medicare and looky here!.....it's the Deathocrats that have destroyed it.

I imagine there are ignorant and easily manipulated seniors who will continue to vote away their own lives, but none of them live in our house.

I wonder if the people who voted obama into office have figured out how stupid they are. They are directly to blame for the deaths that will soon be occurring under his healthscare plan.

RiverKing| 9.16.10 @ 2:49PM

Haven't been to a Tea Party rally, have you, Darin? There are proportionally more seniors at Tea Party affairs than in the general population. I'd be afraid to suggest to most of them that they might vote Democratic or that Democrats care about them.

old white guy| 9.16.10 @ 3:35PM

as a senior i don't want or need any of obana's socialist crap. those who are seniors and really need help should get it. a means test would be good. locking taxpayers into government programs has created the bloody mess we have. you have to take something from a poor old man or woman then you have a problem. a problem created by successive governments be they repubs or dems.

Eleanor| 9.16.10 @ 6:49PM

As a senior of 86, my comment to you is during the depression the Republicans were in power. Then Roosevelt became president he started SS and what then was called Home Relief. They of course are gone now, but their children who like my self was 8 years old grew up believing that the Dems were for the less fortunate. Some people still believe the Democrats are also for the underdog. But they just give snow balls away in July. Also sorry to say I am distrustful of both parties. I think they are all a__h___s

k962| 9.15.10 @ 7:02AM

AARP long ago deserted being an advocate for seniors. They take their marching orders from the Whitehouse.

dodger| 9.16.10 @ 1:19AM

I fully agree about AARP. When the AARP magazine had 2 articles in the same issue, one complaining how terrible the government-run Veterans Administration was doing in caring for our great vets, and the other one advocating government-run health care (Obamacare), I realized that the AARP folks are totally insane! I have since refused to renew my membership, and have joined AMAC (The Association of Mature American Citizens), which is rapidly growing due to disillusioned seniors, and which offers discounts similar to those of AARP.

rosina| 9.16.10 @ 10:24AM

The AARP is funded by the government so of course, they agree with all the lousy demoncraps say or do.
I left the AARP years ago because of this tendency and in this OBAMARUINHEALTH deal, they voted for it. But, never asked their members to vote on it. ONLY the administration did so.
Same applies partly to the AMA who voted for and now regret it. Only 20% of doctors belong to the AMA .
The lousy demons led by no.1 demon Pelousy voted themselves OUT of this pernicious RUINCARE> She knew she would be one to suffer. She is 74yrs old
What hypocrisy!

TPaine3| 9.16.10 @ 4:41PM

PLEASE. Treat Nancy Legosi(thank you Michael Savage), Reid, Kerry and all the rest of those hypocrical jerks with Oblahblah care. They DESERVE it. Let 'em burn.

Appleby| 9.15.10 @ 7:24AM

As a rising *senior* myself, in the 79 million strong vanguard of the Baby Boom, I am seeing the same thing happening in Canada, where bold talk of assisted suicide is replacing any discussion of improving our socialist medicare system that everyone except the delusional and those who do not use it admits is just standing on a rocking chair in ice skates. Sow the wind, reap the whirlwind, though: some of my generation has brought into the world the most self-centred, ignorant, spoilt-brat cadre of permanent children the world has ever known, and their focus being entirely on their own prospects for inheritance, and the overwhelming fact that most of them are not going to earn six figure salaries for doing nothing -- and their parents are retiring and can no longer support them either, well anybody can do the math. Their only hope seems to be that our generation can either be persuaded to keep working until we are 90, or die.

Melvin| 9.15.10 @ 7:40AM

American Seniors are viewed by Obama and the other Professional Facsists experts as the, "Colonial Imperialists" that have raped the world and stolen countries resources.
We must be punished and purged for our transgressions against humanity. American Seniors are responsible for the wars, the famine,
and the dirty genitals of African males, that close to a million dollars of the recent stimulus was spent to correct.
What professorial expert deemed African males penises to be dirty, and how much tax payer money spent through grants was given to investigate?
The government can spend $800,000 plus tax dollars on a bunch of fornicating Africans but deems American grandma and grandpa to be economically useless so therefore given a ,25 cent painkiller and told to go home and contact their end of life counselor.
If these United States ever needed a revolution, it is needed right damn now.

Mr. Rolf| 9.15.10 @ 12:30PM

African penises? Please tell me you have a link.

Melvin| 9.15.10 @ 2:22PM

The grant was given by an organization under the stimulus money.
African males are getting stimulated and Americans are the ones getting screwed by our own government.

I long ago ceased to be a member of AARP. They are not for seniors. Obama is in for a rude awakening. This senior and many like me will not vote Democrat. Of course I have voted Republican most of my life and am proud of it. I would be ashamed to have voted this group in Washington into office.

about 4 years ago, South Carolina started sending Seniors letters about getting medical insurance mostly those under a certain income. Guess who got on the band wagon. AARP. The insurance companies went wild. Now AARP gets about $36.00 a month from these seniors to help pay for their medicines. How about that, they hit pay dirt, not just join up as a member.

martin j smith| 9.15.10 @ 8:01AM

Obama is at war with America period. More people are still stuck on stupid but when they get hit with the proverbial fan they wil complain--but will they switch ? That is the question.

Bill| 9.15.10 @ 8:03AM

Seniors do not need AARP. AARP needs the people and their dues. When I get literature in the mail from that group it is torn in half and hits the dumpster before it even enters the house. Dump AARP there are better options.

Stephanie| 9.15.10 @ 8:18AM

Bill, I send the AARP literature back to them in their postpaid envelope with, written in black magic marker, Get Lost Obama Supporter. It's been some time since I received any.

Stephanie, I think I'm in love. :-)

I've actually done the same thing twice, and haven't received any propaganda from them since.

We filled our last one with as many metal washers from DH's workbench as we could get in to it and sent it back--postage paid by them.

A parasite that should be burned off before it takes control.

I just send back the AARP literature and turn off their ads on TV.
Last time, wrote "NOT WANTED" on envelope but some of you have given me new ideas.
Thanks
By the way, i used to belong to USA_United Seniors Association with Art Linklater as part of it. I know they had problems with the AARP as they were constantly against them. There were something like a million members. Then, it just disappeared. Anyone know anything about them?
Did they lose their case with AARP?

If ever seniors were in the mood to hear the truth about Paul Ryan's ideas for Social Security and Medicare, it's right now. The Boomers (and I'm about in the middle of that age group) have for a while known we'd be lucky to get anything back from our contributions to Social Security, so we've been trying to save for our retirement (at least we responsible ones!) -- only to have the rug pulled out from under us in September 2008. (Thanks, Dems, for Fannie and Freddie -- you've screwed those who've paid for your government expansion for the last 40 years -- what a surprise.)

Republicans need to embrace Ryan instead of avoiding the subject. The large boomer population getting ready to retire aren't stupid. We see what's coming. Level with us. At least those of us who haven't drunk the Obama Kool Aid don't want to leave a socialist dictatorship to our children and grandchildren. We also know from our parents' experience that the way Medicare has been set up isn't good -- many of us already have used Health Savings Accounts. They make sense. Politicians need to realize that avoidance won't work -- tell us the truth. Listen to Paul Ryan (and then watch Obama attack!) :)

Oh, and I dumped AARP when they fought against Bush's attempt to allow younger folks to put some of the Social Security taxes in a private account. As Rush calls them -- AALRP (American Association of Liberal Retired People) don't do a damn thing for retired people.

SpiralArchitect| 9.15.10 @ 4:48PM

The Obama Kool-Aid is akin to Jim Jones Kool-Aid...
It only kills; be it a person or a nation. >:(

JP| 9.15.10 @ 8:38AM

Seniors will being having a tough go of it no matter what happens. Besides the recession and its attendent drop in public revenues, there is a drop off in the number of workers who will be supplying the revenues (ie taxes).

In 1937, the first year SS was implemented, there were 40 workers to each retiree. By 2008 that number is only 2 to 1. And there is no way those 2 workers can provide the kind of generous Medicare and Social Security benefits seniors have grown accustomed to. The Baby Boomers as a whole provided at best a 1.85 TFR (Total Fertility Rate); during the 1970s, it was as low as 1.5 . Abortion and Contraception of course are to blame. And looking at the trillions of dollars in unfunded liabilities, it is obvious something must be changed.

We might be able to provide full benefits for those seniors 77 and older. But there is no way we can support the Boomers and later generations. Difficult times ahead.

Ken Roberts | 9.16.10 @ 11:12AM

If the money would have been invested and kept away from the stealing hands of congress social security would be solvent today and for the next twenty years maybe . Shame to pay into something for 45 years to have it disappear especially when there was supposed to be a no risk smell to it. sure we all know that we did not pay into it what we get back but attrition should handle some of that . I heard the average draw on social security was rather a small amount of time , I guess I am lucky even if I lost it all now . some of us have lost much more in the stock market so maybe the investing would have been a bad idea what with the extravagant spending we have in government today . Frankly Obama and the democrats have put every social security person in danger of losing it all in their golden years . It makes one wonder if this was not by design to keep from paying what is owed to seniors.

coal carrier| 9.15.10 @ 8:49AM

I am a senior. I can see a socialist from my house. November is pay back time for us.

TR| 9.15.10 @ 12:49PM

It's not just socialism. If you have ever read the Communist Manifesto, this current affirmative action President has learned his lessons well. His actions are clearly intentionally sending us into communism/marxism. I pray that the producing class can return us to sanity in Nov. My fear is that the leech class have the advantage by their shher numbers and the refusal by the ObaMao Justice Dept. to prosecute voter fraud and intimidation.

Jim O'Brien| 9.15.10 @ 9:07AM

When Republicans regain the House, will they be brave enough to neuter ObamaCare? If not, then we will continue to have taxation without representation. If they starve the monster, then we will be on track to national recovery from insanity.

olainfree| 9.15.10 @ 9:12AM

The latest "strategery" announced by the DNC today--"Making it in America"-- intends to demonize Republican plans such as Rep. Paul Ryan's to reform SS and Medicare. It will be filled with false and emotional rhetoric in order to bring the seniors back into the fold.

Ryan's roadmap should be aggressively marketed, and the Dems' false narrative should be punctured and belittled with hard facts to counter what the Dems plan.

Republicans should get on board with Ryan's ideas, or they will allow the Dems to define them with falsehoods.

Obama will kick this can down the road a few years after his presidency, at least until 2014 when the full effect of Obamacare is set to begin.

Texas Mom| 9.16.10 @ 12:38PM

I heard they have floated that idea again. So those of us who saved something after paying taxes that have been redistributed to those who don't pay taxes via the Earned Income tax credit will now have those savings spread around to others as well... Hummmm, they will have to pry our 401K out of our cold dead hands.

I live in Las Vegas, you should see it here. We have officially passed Michigan in unemployment.

When you pass Michigan in unemployment, there's a problem.

Sadly enough....all the retarded leftists in this city will vote Reid like always.

TR| 9.15.10 @ 1:00PM

I also live in Vegas (over 40 years) and I have the same concern as you do Ghastly. Actual unemployment is around 25%, because of the changes made in figuring unemployment, if a person has been unemployed for an extended period and cannot find a job, they are no longer counted as unemployed. They are simply a non-person.
And you are probably correct in your Pinky Reid assessment. We have been flooded over the past two decades with California leeches, fleeing the destruction they wrought on their once great state only to demand and vote for the same liberal policies that caused said destruction. And their idiot hero, the liar Reid, rides the wave leading us into a bottomless pit.

Mustang| 9.15.10 @ 4:32PM

TR| 9.15.10 @ 6:05PM

You are correct that it is the casino corporations (very few are owned by individuals anymore, unfortunately) that support Pinky. However, it is the influx of Californicators in the 90s that tipped us over to liberal politicians in LV. Nevada, my entire life until then, was a fairly conservative political state and "live and let live" attitude prevailed, even the Democrats were conservative Democrats. But the we get overrun by Cali libs, who demand we stop smoking in bars like they forced back in Cali (among other behavior restrictions they impose), that we become more like Callifornia, the land they fled, and now we have idiots like that carpetbagger twangy voiced Dina Titus (she is not from California, but is a liberal like them) and others on a local level elected by these liberals. Las Vegas used to be a great place to live. I would leave tomorrow if I could sell my house, which is worth next to nothing. We have approx 60,000 vacant foreclosed homes in the valley. Thank you Community Reinvestment Act/JimboCarter/BillaryClinton/PinkyReid .

Margie| 9.15.10 @ 9:33PM

There are foreclosures everywhere across the country like that, some areas more than others. Hubby & I just bought one for peanuts & it has a nice little plot of land. People are coming from wealthier States & situations & are buying them up and either using them as rentals or fixing them to live in. We're keeping ours.

It's changing the face of the country but I think we'll survive. We make life what we want to make it ultimately. The ruination of the economy by the Socialist President~well he doesn't know it yet but Americans are fighters and we will persevere and fight our way back to the top again.

Ghastlyone| 9.15.10 @ 10:44AM

Just give it some time. The federal gubmint will have to cut millions of public sector jobs, just like Cuba announced yesterday they 're going to do (Unless Obama is going to bail out Cuba?)

There won't be enough privot sector jobs left to tax, to continue funding this out of control government.

gene hauber| 9.15.10 @ 11:21AM

In a system of checks and balances as we have in our government, when our president decides to RUN AMOK with his power, the congress is suppose to step in and restrain him,
IF THAT DOESN'T HAPPEN AND INSTEAD THEY CHEER HIM ON, I BELIEVE WE HAVE NO CONTROL AS CITIZENS OVER THIS MAYHEM EXCEPT TO WAIT FOR THE NEXT ELEC TION TO GET RID OF THESE BASTARDS. In the meantime great damage could be be done to the country, as I think has already been done.

WE SHOULD HAVE A WAY TO DISCOURAGE THIS ILLEGAL ACTIVITY IN THE FUTURE BY PROSECUTING THE PRESENT CRIMINALS NOW. WADDYA THINK??

One Philanthropist in every state directing and paying for ten buses in every major city loading them with senior citizens and the willing and taking them to D.C. to march up the steps of the capitol and the gates of the white house would certainly get some ons attention as that would mean million upon millions marching on Washington. This Administration is a better war then the one we are having our youth fight in Afghanistan

Average Infidel| 9.15.10 @ 8:36PM

Impeach Don't Wait| 9.15.10 @ 9:48PM

Yep. But there's no "arbiter" to call foul. Congress and the Prez are on the same team. Supreme Court won't budge unless someone sues. And in this day and age, it would take an army of conservative millionaires to fund media ads, mailings, and "townhall" educational meetings & broadcasts just to clear enough disinformation to make the clueless care.
As it is: If the first election doesn't do it, try the next. And the next. And the next. If that still doesn't do it, our swift economic descent will trigger a desperate longing for the "good ol' days" when we had jobs. And money. Then Paul Ryan's plan will shine like a beacon in a storm and maybe then we'll see the chance we missed.

Judith| 9.16.10 @ 1:33AM

Great article, Peter! The great thing about Obama's/Democrats' assault upon us seniors and America is that he/they have now awakened a sleeping giant, as exemplified by the tea partiers and the political defeat of entrenched Democrats/RINOS everywhere. It's great....I love it. WE ARE TAKING BACK OUR COUNTRY, STEP BY STEP, BIT BY BIT!!!!!!!!!!!!

JeffT| 9.15.10 @ 12:46PM

Why is any of this a surprise? It was always going to be about rationing care. And seniors, why we're expendable. Save all that care and drugs for the youts. Berwick was hired to pull out this NHS-style government controlled fiasco into the US. Repeal is the only way, but only if we ge the "right" Republicans in the House and Senate. Getting rid of RINOs, like Castle, is a good start.

Judith| 9.16.10 @ 1:38AM

Jeff T Unless we have the Pres and some of congress, he can veto everything. What if we can't repeal, we starve it to death. That is why we must have the house and control of the purse with a veto proof majority. "Hope" we can "change" this.

rosina| 9.16.10 @ 10:48AM

That Berwick is the biggest fool alive. He loves the NHS.
I grew up under that and believe me it is the biggest mess ever. At first, it sounded good but as it was supposedly 'free' people came from all ove the world for the 'freebie' and the stupid govts. did not control this. Within 20years it was bankrupt and eyecare, dentalcare, free medications had all been dropped off. It is not and never was free. Each worker is obliged to pay a weekly NHS stamp. I did so when I still lived there. it is automatically paid out of salary. An umemployed person has it paid for them---can you see the abuse?
Years later, they have learned nothing. Millions of employees, not enough nurses and doctors, long waits for doctor care, as anyone coming in gets this 'benefit' even without paying!!!!!
And as for the cleanliness and the wards. Forget it. MALE AND FEMALE wards! Filth everywhere as the employees find they are too good to clean so it is farmed out and unsupervised. My sister had three infections, one after the other, and spent three months in hospital and was so weakened she had to go to a nursing home where she died soon after. I blame the care a great deal. A few months later, the same thing happened to my cousin.
And Berwick PRAISES THE NHS?????
WHAT AN ALMIGHTY FOOL!

Texas Mom| 9.16.10 @ 12:45PM

Castle voted for Cap and Tax, no way would we send this RINO to the Senate. We would just end up with a Snowe-job.. Or a Jumpin Jim Jeffords or an Arlen Spector... Too many RINOS hold the rest of the Republicans hostage and then some of them jump ship. When they are all about themselves and not about any principle then we do not need them stinking up our party. Like with Crist... good riddance to Castle and don't let the door hit ya in the huh-huh on the way out...

Pat| 9.15.10 @ 1:54PM

Upon his arrival in Washington, Obama brought only his wealth of executive inexperience and a pair of battered Nike high tops – but waiting for him at the White House gate were his expert “handlers” who would soon define his presidential priorities. One of his most urgent priorities was the “geezer” problem – old folks who needed more and more health care as they age and, in turn, generate medical expenses which consume more and more tax dollars in the process. As a former community organizer, Obama quickly grasped where this was going – all tax dollars would soon be spent on only 2 things: Interest payments to the Chinese and health care and daily living expenses for old folks.

That revelation wasn’t good – spending every dime of federal taxes on interest payments and geezer welfare leaves nothing for the younger Democrats - community organizers, welfare counselors, legal aid for the poor – all those tax supported jobs so near and dear to the hearts of young Democrats. Drastic action was needed and President Obama has been tinkering with our health care system ever since. There is no permanent solution of course, unless government scientists can learn to reverse the aging process, something they’ve been secretly working on for years (how do you think Viagra was invented?).

But, unknown to most Americans, the tinkering hasn’t stopped with Obamacare, it continues. If old folks would simply adopt a healthier lifestyle, much of the money could be diverted to younger voters, such as community organizers for example. Consequently, Washington’s various agencies have recently focused on the cruise ship industry. Senior citizens love this form of vacation because those wily cruise ship lines feed you 6 times a day and take you to many interesting places where you can buy t-shirts for the grandkids.

First, the shipboard overeating had to stop so federal regulations will soon require cruise ships to adhere to a strict, heart healthy menu selection such as Brussels Sprouts in sugar free chocolate sauce at the dessert bar. And, once you hit port, the various shore excursions, usually involving some form of leisurely shopping, also has to stop. Federal regulations will soon require a much more vigorous agenda of excursions designed to promote healthy, cardiovascular exercise.

For the Alaska cruises, bear and moose tagging, involving up close and personal encounters with Alaskan wildlife will soon be the featured, and only, offering. For the warm water cruises, sponge diving in shark infested waters would become the primary tour. Some Republican detractors have pointed out that fatal accidents among older folks would certainly become an undesirable side effect of these new, federally mandated shore excursions, but Democrats have responded to this partisan attack by pointing out that those senior citizens who survive their Alaskan cruise will enjoy much healthier lives – and who can argue with that?

Bob Burleigh| 9.15.10 @ 2:15PM

If ANY of this were the absolute truth, it would be scary. Fortunately, NONE of it is truth - just political spin and venom.

The 30% cuts in M.D. payments are the consequence of the "SGR" (Sustainable Growth Rate) program that was passed in 1996 by the beloved Newt Gingrich's Contract With America. The cuts were to be 21.3% this year but, as they have every year since Bush II was President, Congress blocked the cuts, knowing what would happen if they didn't. These cuts have NOTHING to do with who is President (Obama or Bush) - they're a lasting gift from The Newt.

The other alleged "cuts" to Medicare are ONLY the ending of subsidies for Medicare HMO contracts (a Bush Administration gift to the insurance industry). If Part C (Medicare HMOs) is totally eliminated, NOT ONE Medicare beneficiary will lose ANYTHING, as "regular" Medicare covers everyone eligible. This is the twisted lie that Obama haters cling to because it gives them a way to scare seniors, even though the only real losers will be the subsidized (for-profit) insurers.

RCV| 9.15.10 @ 3:11PM

Don't bother trying to confuse them with the facts, Bob.

It's so delightful to see the GOP coming to defense of Medicare, which they fought so long and hard to defeat, and which has been the saviour of so many of our senior citizens. It reminds me again of that wonderful tea-bagger sign, "Government, Keep Your Hands Off Our Medicare!" Go figure!

RCV| 9.15.10 @ 7:27PM

Margie: Please, tell me what "lies" I have ever told you or anyone else.

RCV| 9.15.10 @ 4:28PM

Margie, I know you'll never take advice from someone like me, but here goes anyway. Stop being so hateful to everyone with whom you disagree. It does a disservice to you, to the political cause you espouse, and (since you proclaim yourself a Christian) to the church universal. You drive people away from Christ, and that's never a good thing.

Good bless and be well.

Margie| 9.15.10 @ 6:27PM

Gee, quite the repeater mosquiter you are, RCV.

I understand that you Leftist slimbags like to use the hater card on those of us who speak the truth and you're just another one of them in a very long line. However I am impervious to flames as I've been around here for a long time. Your stupid baseless lying won't shut me up.

And please refrain from saying "God bless." You are insincere and I don't appreciate it. You think you can lie and like that and then say God bless?

Do me a favor man, spare me.

Now go kiss the rear ends of the rest of the people on your list. I'm glad I'm not one of them.

RCV| 9.15.10 @ 7:05PM

I will never refrain from calling for God's blessing on all people. And I don't lie. If I did, I'd tell you what you want to hear, like many of the Catholic posters whom you insult but who (being real Christians) try to placate you until you forgive them. You just toss the term "liar" around whenever you disagree with other people's opinion.

Being civil to other human beings isn't "kissing their rear-ends". It's called courtesy.

Margie| 9.15.10 @ 8:36PM

Liar. You call me a hateful for telling you what God says. You openly say that you do not believe what God says, both about sin and His miracles.

You ARE a liar. Keep on lying and I will keep on calling you one.

Margie| 9.15.10 @ 8:39PM

p.s. Unbelievers who mock God and Jesus by saying His words are untrue and mock Jesus' miracles cannot "call God's blessings" on anyone. Especially on Christians who love and try to keep His words. You're a fake phony fraud.

RCV| 9.15.10 @ 9:49PM

You're presumptuously playing God again, Margie, thinking you can decide who can call on God's blessings. That's a real sin. Since you probably don't even consider Pope Benedict to be a "real Christian" like you, I don't take your insults personally.
May God someday grant you His peace, and may you learn to truly love other people.

Margie| 9.15.10 @ 10:19PM

Liar. You play God by thinking you can mock his miracles and call them parlor tricks and go against His words by saying that homosexuality isn't sin, as well as saying some of the Bible isn't true.

Hypocrite! You play God by so doing.

God decides what is true, not RCV. And those who call Him a liar and who love and practice falsehood have a very bleak outlook.

"Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of Life and that they may enter the city by the gates. Outside are the dogs and sorcerers and fornicators and murderers and idolaters, and every one who loves and practices falsehood... I warn every one who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if any one adds to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book, and if any one takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his share in the tree of Life and in the Holy City, which are described in this book. He who testifies to these things says, "Surely I am coming soon." Amen. Come, Lord Jesus! The Grace of the Lord Jesus be with all the saints. Amen." Rev. 22:14,15 & 18-21.

You cannot be the standard. God's words are the standard. Mock on.

RCV| 9.15.10 @ 10:33PM

That's right, "God decides what is true." Not Margie. No wonder St Paul was driven to write what he did. He surely would have asked you to keep silent.

Indeed we need to trash the Democrats, best way to do that is to get a majority in the House and Senate this November, then hit Obama with an impeachment in January, that way we take out the trash big time and can get the nation back on the track to freedom and prosperity before the Demos destroy everything which they surely will do if we let them!

AARP has turned from a somewhat respectable organization with some good programs to a pathetic organization. It has completely embaressed itself and all seniors that read and believe the articles/commentaries. AARP is attempting to influence the people they are supposed to take care of by providing reliable information to them. Instead, they have become an Obama propoganda machine spouting lies (just as Obama) and trying convince us that his agenda is good for seniors. If any good can come out of AARP with its completely liberal leadership, it can come only with resignation of all senior staff. and starting over with real analysts, not some propoganda specialists. Obamacare is going to kill more seniors than all killed in wars since the beginning of the USA. You who believe in Obama, wait 3 years, then examine your social security and other retirement programs, then reevalute your financial and health conditions. AARP either return to your charter to seniors or shut your doors!

It isn't just seniors whose health care will be affected! The company I work for, beginning in 2011, will discontinue offering the low-deductible plan. The only thing offered will be a high-deductible plan. So much for 'if you like your health care, you can keep it'.

S Rubicon| 9.16.10 @ 3:04PM

When I heard about the Medicare cuts, I got in touch w/ someone in Washington & got a copy of that portion of the planned legislation. I also studies as mush as I could after it passed. Based on those cuts, I was erroneously sure the bill would not pass. I doubted any Democrat would want to be associated w/ this legislation.
I was wrong!
Now, I refer to the new ObamaCare health care legislation as "Eldercide." Lets face it, once the Medicare cuts begin to take, and health care is affected, the baby boomer generation is doomed to earlier than needed deaths. The misery will be shocking. Obama is 'redistributing the wealth by attacking older Americans who did not have that much wealth in the first place. He did not go after the wealthy, he went after average Americans who I suspect he wanted to go after all along. I suspect he actually blames average Americans for any of the difficulties minorities have or do suffer from. The most average American in these times, are the most recent generation & that means, boomers.
So, next time you see that friend from high school or college, I recommend you take the time to talk w/ them, catch up on stories, perhaps a few photo's,or other contact so you can create the memories that will not be available as long as they would have been under the old medical delivery system we are told was broken.
We are astonished since that same system was working well for the 100, perhaps 175 million average Americans. But, that elusive crowd or perhaps 30 million uninsured requires those average Americans do w/o that medical care that has worked.
Remember the word folks cause sooner or later, it will become 'the' word among the baby boomer generation that suddenly realizes it is dying off because, it no longer gets the health care past generations got.
Eldercide.... the killing off of those troubling old people who cost too much. (Isn't it incredible how history repeats itself? Each new generation of tyrants, of fascists, of do-gooders, seem to come up w/ ways to impose eugenics type control over those whom an elite think are not worthy. The elite think of them as the undesirables. Hitler did it, and Margaret Sanger, the founder of Planned Parenthood (the abortion mills), also wanted eugenics. Originally, many thought she was a racist. Perhaps she was since we know she said blacks are part of the undesirable group.
Establishing Planned Parenthood was her way of disposing of those pesky undesirables. After all, as a percentage of those aborted, blacks have aborted the largest percentage of their own race.
Yep, millions of blacks, literally generations that were to be, have been killed off. Whites & Hispanics have done away with any of their own generations. But, blacks are the real losers. And Dems keep telling them they are looking out for them. Yeah, right!

There's only one problem with Ryan's "roadmap". Medicare Advantage Plans must be revamped before "they" become the answer. In their current form, they are the equivalent of the HMO's that have gone by the wayside due to their "managed care" difficulties. Seniors are often misled by insurers, brokers, and agents on "how great" Advantage plans are. The surprises come down the road when the seniors find out how much their actual out-of-pocket expenses are.

I fully agree that Obamacare destroys Medicare, but to simply switch to Advantage plans(as they currently stand) is not the right answer. Further privatization IS the solution, but is must be more along the lines of traditional insurance plans, rather than an HMO.
