The reason they call it the Web is that it catches more
flies-by-night than the aluminum siding business. Some image,
poignant in its charisma or its grotesquerie, captivates the
public imagination and suddenly millions of otherwise productive
citizens must stop whatever they are doing and see the kitty
trampoline unto the roof or the pea which sprouted in a man’s
lung. Some of these buzz arts are followed by buzzards, as
30-year careers are crushed by 30 seconds of crassness. This
week’s target was Sarah Palin, the former governess of Alaska, if
that’s the correct way to say female governor.
What Palin did to cash in the wroth ire of retiring
liberals nationwide was to roll her eyes. It wasn’t what she
said, it wasn’t even how she said it, it was that she turned and
gave a knowing look that amounted to a rolling of the eyes. Well,
in the 1990s Bill Clinton promised us a revolution in optics and
I guess we finally got one.
The story, in case you have been occupying yourself with
more momentous matters like Wall Street and Tiger Woods going
down, is as follows. A lady, if that’s the word I’m looking for,
was protesting the filming of Sarah’s documentary series. Her
idea of a political banner was a horizontal horror about 100 feet
wide (serving as a new sort of picket fence) bearing the legend:
WORST GOVERNOR EVER. Sarah respectfully asked for a breakdown on
the forensic method used to calibrate the degrees of worseness in
the gubernatorial sweepstakes. The woman responded: “You walked
out on your responsibility to serve your term when cash was waved
in front of your face, and you left to become a
celebrity.”
Quoth Sarah in an excellent comeback, both witty riposte
and logical rejoinder: “Oh, you wanted me to be your governor!
I’m honored! Thank you!” That is as quick-on-your-political-feet
as anyone this side of Dennis Miller, although Democrats dismiss
it as a dumb broadside.
Then she asked Our Lady of the Presumption what she did for
a livelihood when she wasn’t stirring up a lively ‘hood.
“A teacher.”
At this point, Sarah makes a turn-to-the-right to glance
toward someone off-camera. The left wing of the blogosphere has
been
ululating in outrage over the perception that her turn was
not dexterous but sinister. She rolled her eyes at a teacher! At
the whole teaching profession! What if she becomes a roll model?!
Why, the optic nerve of that woman! It’s bad enough that she
turns heads, now she’s rolling eyes!
Sarah herself lost no time twittering back to these twits
with the standard line about how my grandparents were
teachers, my father was a teacher, ladidah. (Well, my grandfather
was an eye-roller, so there. He used to roll those eyes up a hill
one by one in 100-degree weather back during the Depression.) I
would have just answered that all this cash-waving made my eyes
roll as I tried to keep them on the prize. And immediately
started selling T-shirts: “Eye roll my own!” “Eye roll with the
punches!”
TRUTH BE TOLD, if truth is a meaningful element in such
discussions, I join Sarah in rolling my eyes at teachers. The
profession of teaching is an honorable one, but the leftist
teachers who dominate schools today are dishonoring it by much of
what they profess. Look at this woman herself. First, her
conclusion that Sarah left office just to cash in her celebrity
sounds like one she reached via a long jump, hardly the stuff of
judicious analysis. Second, her bestowal of the Worst Governor
Ever lifetime achievement award based on that critique smacks of
the hyperbolic rhetoric students are supposed to unlearn in
school.
My own children, despite attending Jewish parochial
schools, are constantly subjected to this brand of haranguing by
the teachers in the secular department. One daughter had an
entire test in science period devoted to global warming. A class
play about forests (in 3rd grade!) included speaking birds who
advocated for killing the woodchopper for his desecration of
trees.
A different daughter, as a junior in high school, had to
write a report on an angry novel about Southern racism in the
early 20th Century, where blacks had to wait for whites to go
first over the bridge and a host of similar indignities. In her
essay, she wrote that such atrocities are a thing of the past. In
the margin the teacher commented: “Who says?” In each case, I
considered unleashing angry missives but remembered that these
activists held my children’s grades hostage.
So when these teachers stop being so contentious and
tendentious we will begin again to eye them with respect. In the
meantime, they should not be surprised to see some rotation of
pupils.

Good piece and on spot. Do you just love Sarah's wit? It drives the press crazy b/c they would like to find personal trash in her life and just can't seem to do it-even with the jerk who moved in next door or with the baby daddy in their back pocket. "pupil rotation"

Alan Brooks| 8.15.10 @ 7:33PM
The reason I think she is an opportunist is she wants power too much, she has a lean and hungry look-- pretty as well. Which sells.
I do dislike her more than is warranted, but when she revealed her sensitivity on Trig, that was the last straw. Thinking that Rahm Emanuel's comment on effing (leftwing) 'retards' had any connection with Trig is oversensitive, defensive, and a bit paranoid.
Margie| 8.15.10 @ 8:08PM
Alan,
You're saying she wants power but you don't know that, she hasn't shown that at all and I disagree. As for the Rahm the ballerina boy's comment~ if you think it was petty then isn't it even more petty to use it against her? She's got so much going for her, you can't deny it.
Alan Brooks| 8.16.10 @ 12:20AM
Maybe you are right on this, Marge.
Though it does appear she wants power (who doesn't, esp. in politics) her good qualities supersede her negatives. But what she really has going for her is her looks. She looks better now than ever, she must be taking nutritional supplements. She is a 'ten' for sure.
So perhaps there is... well, you know, this a family site.

I'm absolutely tired of the liberal news media trying to make hay out of every move that Palin makes. Last time it was notes that Palin had made on her hand. If this is the case how about making some comment towards the liberal kingdom? I'm sure they roll their eyes from time to time, but probably do worse.
tonypal| 8.13.10 @ 9:23AM
Rush Limbaugh likes to point out that he "lives rent free in the minds of liberals." Same thing for Sarah Palin. The left is obsessed with her and obsession is a sure sign of mental illness. The results are often comical and like Rush, Sarah always seems to be able to turn the tables and make her enemies like foolish.

There was a post at Gateway Pundit several days ago exposing the alleged teacher.
THAT WAS NO TEACHER… Unhinged Leftist Who Confronted Palin Is a Singer in a Drag Queen Band (Photo)
Perhaps Super Sarah detected the lack of sincerity in her voice. Regardless, she handled herself very well in this exchange and while she had some fun with this encounter, remained calm and rational. Two attributes not known to be on regular display from the left.
There is a funny video remix of this encounter.
james| 8.13.10 @ 9:40AM
First, it's 'role model,' not 'roll.' Come on, they already think we're stupid. Be careful.
Second, teaching is no longer an 'honorable profession.' Because of the unions and, more important, the necessity of attending ed. school, teachers for fifty years have been the utter dregs of academia, know-nothings who know nothing. I don't like to use the word 'stupid' because it is overdone, but it's still a good word and it applies to almost every public school teacher in America. If you think I exaggerate, pick one out of the line at the grocery store and have a conversation with her. About anything.
Sarah Palin is a counter-revolutionary who is exactly what we will need to finish off this communist nightmare we have allowed to grow like pea sprouts in the lungs of America. But she will have trouble getting elected because so-called conservatives are still embarrassed to admit they love her for fear that their inferiors - school teachers and the people who love them - will make fun of them.
But she's my girl and I'm going to work for her.
Marilyn| 8.13.10 @ 9:49AM
James, "roll model" is a double entendre, a pun, an innuendo for "role model" using the word "roll" instead to emphasize the fact that the left is going nuts because she allegedly "rolled" her eyes. Very clever, I thought!
Stacey| 8.15.10 @ 11:43PM

Now I know what our beloved leader will do when he gets fired in 2012.
Citizen Jerry| 8.13.10 @ 10:56AM

scotchieguy| 8.13.10 @ 6:23PM
My favorite choices are John Kasich, Paul Ryan, Mike Pence. These are all good "conservatives," not just run of the mill republicans. They are all very smart, expericenced, good on their feet, and baggage-less. The last part is key, cuz the MSM will pull no punches. This is fourth and long w/ seconds to go, folks. You want to lose this great republic, go ahead and stick your blinders on and go w/ Palin. But if we lose these next two elections ('10 and '12), we are no longer a republic. It is time to get serious. Palin is not the answer.
Joe| 8.14.10 @ 1:29AM
So you think we should let the media pick our nominee again? How did that work out for us in '08? Just because the media hate Palin does not mean she can't be President. They hated Reagan also and he did OK. Because the media hate the biggest name conservative out there, we should counter by running a back bencher congressman with zero name recognition and zero charisma. Great plan. Her "baggage", whatever that is, makes her more, not less qualified in my book. Nobody has ever been as thoroughly vetted as Palin.
Scotchieguy| 8.14.10 @ 12:08PM
I like her ideas. I think she is a good conservative. I simply don't believe she is intellectually suited to be president, nor has a chance to win. Not because she is too conservative, or because the MSM hates her. But she simply is not the best candidate. I would take Chris Christie over her in a NY minute. She is not Reagan. You people keep fantasizing she is the next Reagan--he was extremely intellectual. He read Locke, Hume, Hayek, Friedman, etc. I guarantee she has never even heard of any of these great thinkers. The more she is trashed by the MSM, the more many of you on the right want to defend her. I think you are as blind to her as the left is to Obama. You saw what a fraud Mr. change was--not intellectual enough to be dog-catcher. Same w/ Palin. Imagine a debate on health care between Tom Coburn and Palin. Imagine a debate on foreign policy between Gingrich and Palin. Imagine a debate on the budget between Ryan and Palin. If you believe she has a chance in hell in any of these three examples, you truly are blinded by the light.
Roozter| 8.15.10 @ 11:53PM

Dearest Mike
Sarah rarely "speaks on her feet". They are not that interesting to her except as a means of locomotion, (and perhaps great tickle spots for her husband).
You are sorta' right though. She just never has learned to lie smoothly. Instead, she simply speaks the truth, the best she understands it, and to the minds of Texans, (citizens of the most successful State in the Union), her splendid record in the roles she has filled gives us a lot of respect for her.
I am certainly not a "Palin-head". I don't blindly follow her. Nevertheless, this lady can LEAD!
She does truly remind me of a certain "B-movie" actor that did a passable job as President.
You have probably not read her book. You probably won't read her new one either. That is very sad.
What ever happened to a sentence I heard often as a youngster..."You can grow up to be President some-day"?
I personally LIKE what the woman stands for, Okay?
I like what she stands for, right across the board.
I also like the fact that she doesn't give an inch on her convictions...and she is willing to lead from the front....to hell with the incoming fire.
I also like the fact that she can laugh at herself when she does goof up. I watched her on Oprah, laughing at herself for getting pithed off at little Katie in their interview.
Final thought: If she is even with Obama in the Rasmussen poll today..and two more years of mushroom food from Obama...she has a pretty good shot.
I hope she chooses to run.
Blackwatch| 8.13.10 @ 12:15PM
Hi Ken,
I think that Mrs. Palin could best serve the public in the role of Speaker of the House. There is no requirement that the SOH be a member of Congress. That's mere the tradition --it is not a rule. The SOH is a powerful position--someone who controls the agenda. If we are serious about shrinking the Federal Government and not arriving in hot Greece (bad pun I know)--we need someone who can withstand the axes, knives, and arrows the Left and the MSM will hurl hourly.
Whomever actually succeeds in cutting the budget will be savaged. Mrs. Palin certainly has the courage & stamina we need. Who else could lead Congress in finding un-Constitutional wasteful spending and cutting it from our budget.
She would enjoy enormous support and goodwill from our side in this effort. We can not trust John Boehner in the role.

Hi Margie & Ken (I can't wait for the book): Obviously Mike up there, hasn't heard the President speak without a telepromter yet. Otherwise he'd know, that the President can't put two sentences together without hyming and hawing. Sarah Palin speaks as well as anybody I've ever heard, and I like what she has to say too. But I guess I'm just "one" of those 25%'s Mike was referring too, who keep clinging to our guns and our Bibles, and actually believe in the Constitution.
Margie| 8.13.10 @ 1:18PM
Hi Lullabys,
Maybe Mike will take a moment from the path he's currently on, blindly following a lie, and use that "open mind" (the kind that he wishes we'd all have)~ to actually read Sarah's book. You never know, he might just like what she has to say. But that takes an open mind. Come on, Mike~ we dare ya!
scotchieguy| 8.13.10 @ 6:49PM
Quit comparing Palin to Obama. She is a true conservative...he is a socialist at best. Quit comparing her to Reagan. He was, despite his "aw shucks" folksiness, a true INTELLECTUAL--Paling isn't even close. Palin is a great speaker, has charisma, and is conservative. She is also dumb as dog sh*t. A lightweight like Katie Curic asked what she read, and she just caved. Before she is considered for anything, I would love to see a list from her of the books she has read, and the current papers, mags, blogs, etc. she reads. I honestly believe she is the right-wing equivalent of Barry...an empty suit, a dim-wit, nothing there...a paper tiger. If we lose this country cuz you people were too stupid to figure this out, then we TRULY get the leaders we deserve.

Can't remember, all I know--Palin is not the answer, and she will get savaged by the MSM.

Oldefarte| 8.13.10 @ 11:26AM
The problem with teachers are their TEACHERS UNIONS. The latter effectively garantee the hiring, promotion [and non-firing] of bad teachers [along with the good ones]. If the election of professional, non-treasonous politicians in November forward could be effected, hopefully eventually the elimination/retirement of incompetitent teachers [along with their union reps] and the return of education control education back to the states/locals could begin the process of returning the teaching profession back to the honorable position that it once occupied in our society!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Adirondacker59| 8.13.10 @ 1:54PM
Part of the educational reform in the next administration should be a law prohibiting public school teachers from engaging in a pattern of political advocacy in the classroom (a vague standard, but at least a starting point), requiring classroom lectures to be recorded to provide evidence for determining if the prohibition has been violated and granting private organizations the right to bring actions for the dismissal of teachers who violate this prohibition, with any successful party being awarded a counsel fee from the school in the amount of half the difference in pay between the teacher fired and a starting teacher. Such a law would: 1) reduce overt teacher classroom partisanship; 2) help weed out incompetent tenured teachers; 3) reduce school budgets; 4) reduce unemployment among new graduates; and 5) set the trial lawyers against the teachers unions. Seems like a win-win to me.

Sarah rolled some eyes, and Obama (and ex-Mayor Dinkin) flips the finger subtly and regularly, and Joe Biden is filled with curse words, my my, the country is going down. No, not really. But if that's the only thing they got on Palin they're in for a rough 8 years of her presidency. Gov. Spitzer quit under cloud, still can't make a dime, and Gov. McGreevy ditto, and Gov. Blago in the dock and Gov. Edwards of Louisiana still in jail, and Gov. Sanford still hiding out, and ... well, surely the teacher should have researched a bit about the worst governor sweepstakes. And ain't that a liberal -- not happy someone is making money.
On the other hand, Palin did not wish to see the lady writhe in pain from a heart attack, or shove her through a plate glass window, as certain probably anti-eye-roll journalists would have it.
Now the question is only if Obama will cite the jobs created or saved in the making of the banner, or if the environmentalists will decry the frivolous waste of scarce resources. But still, that banner could be hauled to every state of the Union and get quite a rousing bit of support. So perhaps the teacher has a big-money career ahead of her, after all, if only she'd quit her job and seize the opportunity!

David| 8.13.10 @ 4:07PM
Mike, I would not want to see her on the presidential ticket, but you go too far in calling her a dimb bulb.
Ken, I love your comeback to Mike - that was funny.
Palin certainly has a lot to offer conservatives and the republican party. I love the fact that she does not let anything slip by and gets right back in the leftists' faces when the say stupid things or get caught doing stupid things - like when Palin wanted to make an issue of Jeremiah Wright during the campaign and McCain nixed it. How stupid was that.
A warning about Palin though, don't just support the candidate she supports. The person is not necessarily the most conservative. She supported a woman for the house in Wed primary (I think her name is Handle) and the guy running against her was a businessman and the true conservative in the race. I heard that when Palin was asked if she was supporting her because she was a woman, Palin said, "I'm not supporting her because she's a woman, but she is a sister". Hmmmm.
Back to repubs always seeming to miss taking advantage of the ammo they have, here is a simple current example: I suspect everyone has heard about the Bell, California, story. The one where multiple members of city government are making more money than the president of the U.S. for governing on a part-time basis a city of 30,000 people, who have average income is less than $30,000 per year. Since all of the reporting over a week ago, I have not heard anything or read from one news outlet the party affiliation of those officials who were basically stealing from their citizens.
That is, not until yesterday, when I read Ann Coulter's column and she pointed out that ALL of them were DEMOCRATS. Why in the world haven't the repubs been making a big issue of this? Can anyone imagine the dems keeping silent about it if they were ALL repubs? They would be howling about it, along with the ruling media, all day every day from now through the election. Why hasn't it been reported on Fox, on this site, National Review, or any other conservative media source?
I don't have any confidence in the right to be able to sell their plans to the voters. They are the most inept, pussy-footed, non-combative group of screwups I have ever seen. And it seems that it has only gotten worse in recent months. Yea screwups, forget about the standing ovation the dems gave to Mexico's president when he trashed America, forget that the thieves in Bell are all democrats, forget that Bam Bam attended a hate-filled so-called church for 20 years, forget it all. Just get by on your good looks and your mealy-mouthed, tinker around the edges, proposals.
You will probably get at least one chamber back in Nov, and you had better move the ball to the right - get it. Stop this BS of leftist creep into every area of America. Move the flippin' ball and use the sh_t the dems are handing you against them.
The right wants to fight a war against Islamists, and the dems don't recognize that as a war. The dems are fighting a war, and have been for decades, for the heart and soul of America, its children, and its institutions, and YOU, THE RIGHT, don't even recognize that you are in that war.

David you made two errors in your critique of Palin. First about Handel in GA. I live here and it is true that Handel was more moderate than Deal who is a life long politician and voted one of the 15 most corrupt politicians in DC. He has his hands in so many state businesses that he will have to recuse himself from every vote. He also went very dirty during the campaign. Second, no matter what you say about Palin's motives she is truly honest. I personally believe that just having someone in the WH who is honest will be more important than a business wonk like some of the Goldman Sachs trash. She is not like Carter who was such a micro manager that he could not govern. She will seek out the people to help her do the job she tells you she is going to do. Would you rather have a Romney who has a windsock as his family crest? Or a back stabbing Huckabee? How about mull-it-over Newt? It would take a year for him to make up his mind and then it would split the difference with libs. Pawlenty? He's a nice little guy who did some things in Minnesota but lead? I don't think he could lead a one man band. Daniels? He would make a good cabinet secretary. Perry? If God had wanted Texans to ski he would have made bull shit white!
Roozter| 8.16.10 @ 12:06AM
Sarah Palin needs to go home to AK & quit butting in to the other states' elections. Voters should decide for themselves who to support!

David| 8.13.10 @ 5:21PM
Inspectorudy, I certainly don't doubt Palin's honesty. And she would probably make a better prez than those you mention, and I would prefer her over them. I was not aware of Nathan Deal's ethical problems. I'll have to look into that to confirm that they truly are problems and not the dems just throwing around accusations with no evidence.
I did like Mitch Daniels because he has been very accomplished in whatever political position he has held; but again on Chris Wallace's show on Sunday he stuck to his crap about putting social issues aside for a while. If he doesn't understand that social and economic issues are tied together, then I can't vote for him.
I love Palin, I just wish she would slow down a bit, APPEAR more thoughtful and serious instead of answering and speaking such a quippy manner - if that's a word.
There are a few others you failed to mention who I may prefer over Palin: Rick Santorum, Haley Barbour, Jim DeMint, and possibly Bobby Jindal. Palin can do great things for the conservative movement, and maybe even in Cabinet positions or elective office again. I would have to see who her primary opponents are before making a final decision. I am naturally cautious whenever someone new bursts onto the scene with tremendous fanfare and accolades. Look at the boy Bam Bam. Palin's meteoric rise on the repub scene is similar. I know Palin is nothing like him, but again, I am naturally cautious.
james| 8.13.10 @ 5:49PM
Sarah Palin understands freedom, viscerally, and she will press a thumb into Nancy Pelosi's forehead until that evil harridan takes a seat. Get this through your little heads, republicans: Jimmy Carter was the most articulate president of our lifetime. Bill Clinton went to Yale. Obama went to Columbia. Elena Kagan ran Harvard Law School.
So how do you like it so far? Wake up. We need someone who brings a genetic understanding of America to the fight for survival, along with overwhelming firepower. And, most important, the willingness to use it.
Ronald Reagan went to Eureka College. You probably didn't vote for him either, till the second term, when it was 'safe.'
rdman| 8.13.10 @ 6:02PM
Sarah Palin shares attributes with the majority of the great silent American majority:
Inner-directed, authentic and genuine, self-acceptance, everything she seems to be. Self-assured, self-generating, energetic, adaptable, physically attractive and popular. Ambitious to improve self, becoming outstanding, a kind of human ideal, embodying widely admired qualities. Others are often motivated to want to be like her in some positive way.
Leftist Attributes (Democrats, Progressives, Socialists)
Impress others with their spurious superiority, constantly promoting themselves. Narcissistic, with grandiose, inflated notions about themselves and their talents. Arrogance and contempt for others as a defense against feeling envious and jealous of others and their success.
Exploitative and opportunistic, devious and deceptive so that their mistakes and wrongdoings will not be exposed. Untrustworthy, maliciously betraying or sabotaging others to triumph over them. Delusionally vindictive, attempting to ruin others. Relentless, obsessive about destroying whatever reminds them of their own shortcomings and failures.
Crystal Clear… GO SARAH GO!!!
scotchieguy| 8.13.10 @ 7:03PM
"self-assured, self-generating, energetic, adaptable..." What is this BS? How about brains? She is the dumbest repub since Quayle, and you want to take your chances w/ HER? BTW, I saw a clip of Ben Quayle last night on FOX. I guess the apple does not fall far from the tree--same empty, clueless look in his eyes...maybe he could be Sarah's sidekick. Would make for a helluva dynamic duo in '12. Would make McCain look like a pretty good choice....geeeeez!
rdman| 8.13.10 @ 8:26PM
Typical Leftist response. Do you feel better now? Re-read the Leftist profile... fits you to a T!!
Quite frankly, you are not capable to shine Sarah's shoes, moron. Everytime a Leftist idiot confronts her with insults (that's all you trolls got), she undresses the envious, jealous Leftist and exposes him/her as an empty, hateful drone and she does it with a smile and a wink.
What the hell does Quayle got to do with the topic??... except expose you for what you are... a shallow, petty twit.
scotchieguy| 8.14.10 @ 12:19PM
I thought only the left called names and hurled insults at those they disagreed with. I'm NOT a lefty. Do you actually read any of these posts? I said I would prefer Coburn, Kasich, Ryan, Pence or Christie over Palin. It is not her conservative views I disagree with. I simply don't believe she is intelectually suited to be president. I also don't think she can win. As far as Qualye--the repubs were just in love w/ him 20 years ago as they are w/ Palin.

It looks like much rdman has scotchie pegged by his own words. I am also suspicious of those that make such a fuss about being an intellectual. Our politicians go to elite schools and frankly believe some of the dumbest things. Do we really believe that are problems are driven by a lack of IQ in our politicians? This is a dimwitted idea. Scotchie is running on empty.
scotchieguy| 8.15.10 @ 3:48PM
Troll, I agree w/ you about the "intellectual elites" at the east coast schools, people like Kagan, Clintons, etc. That is not what I was referring to re. Paling. I just don't think she is intellectually deep--I bet she would have a really tough time reading, say, Jonah Goldberb's "Liberal Fascism." I think her idea of a good read is People magazine, or some cheap novel. BTW, the last brilliant conservative we geniuses elected--W--at least was a student of history. I think the only thing Palin is a student of is her big fat ego. She and her hillbilly family is taking you for quite a ride.
rdman| 8.14.10 @ 12:33PM
Scotchie sounds like one of the inside-the-beltway, good-old-boy establishment types.
Given Palin's performance in Alaska busting up the good-old-boy's waste and corruption must scare the hell out of the DC establishment types.
That makes you good-old-boys, left or right, not a dime's worth of difference!
Roozter| 8.16.10 @ 12:45AM
Why do you have to label someone because they don't agree with your opinion - especially a fellow conservative? Now you sound just like the libs!
George True| 8.14.10 @ 1:26PM
FYI, Dan Quayle was tagged as an airhead by the MFM back when he was Reagan's VP. But those who knew him in the senate knew him to be an intellectual heavyweight. He always did his homework on the issues and knew the details thereof backwards and forwards. He was as much a policy wonk in his day as Paul Ryan is today. The MFM label of lightweight had absolutely no basis in fact or in truth.
Compared, to him, his son may be a bit of an intellectual lightweight at this point, but you know what? He is on the right side of EVERY issue. As he is running for congress in my congressional district here in Phoenix AZ, I will enthusiastically cast my vote for him in November.
George True| 8.14.10 @ 1:33PM
And as for Sarah Palin, she is also on the right (that is, intellectually and morally correct) side of every issue too. That all by itself covers a multitude of sins and shortcomings. But I happen to agree with you singlemaltguy, that she is not nearly as well-spoken as she should be, and that would worry me a lot if she became the nominee. The only conservatives I have seen who can shred leftist arguments with a single bound are Chris Christie and Liz Cheney. I wish all conservatives running for office would study these two and emulate them. (And although I admire Mitch Daniels, I saw an interview of him recently, and he does not seem to be particularly well-spoken or articulate.)

scotchieguy| 8.13.10 @ 7:22PM

I'm bucking the trend on all sides but I am a tea party supporter and a down-the-line conservative but do not support Palin running for president at all. If you look closely at the poll numbers among the various demographics, she performs horribly among women and younger voters. As a matter of fact, I believe she has approached her capacity to bring in new voters among most all demographic groups.
As much as I despise the state run media, her labeling them the "lamestream" media is not what we should look for in a president. She has burned so many bridges with them it's beyond repair and the relationship would be excessively hostile and crippling to her presidency.
I'm sure I speak for many when I say the details of her personal life are a source of irritation to me any many other conservatives I have spoken with. ENOUGH ALREADY!
Her political career in Alaska was mediocre at best. In addition, the charge of her as a quitter resonates.
Unfortunately, she has done nothing to increase her "gravitas".Too bad, because she has the perfect role model to follow: Hillary's transition from first lady to serious, worker-bee senate candidate. (And no, I do not agree with her but deeply respect her jump from first lady to powerful senator, sec of state).
Sarah seems to be hell bent on doing it her way which I guess is admirable, however, I know scores of conservatives - male and female - who will absolutely not consider voting for her.
That is a problem!!
rdman| 8.14.10 @ 1:41PM
IMO, that’s a pretty lame post, Bob…
Has Palin declared that she is running for the Presidency???
What rigged polls are you looking at???… most people including conservative and moderate women and young people like and admire Palin. She draws thousands at Tea Party rallies and other events. That pretty good “gravitas” to most…
Most real conservative people agree with Palin’s label of the media as “lamestream.” The state-run media, as you label them, are arrogant, corrupt, disingenuous and incompetent… these people don’t run the country. The lamestream media needs to be confronted, exposed and put in their place for what they really are… the American version of Pravda and Ivestia There’s nothing worth repairing!
Palin accomplished more for Alaska and its people then Hillary has accomplished in her entire career.
Real conservative, rational and logical people understand and have accepted Palin’s reasons why she resigned. Alaska is doing just fine without the hundreds of frivolous lawsuits and Palin is doing even better sticking it to and driving the loony Left insane… and I love it!!!
Where’s the problem????
GO SARAH GO…
Bob Grant| 8.14.10 @ 6:14PM
Rdman...oh yea, I forgot. Another issue I have with Team-Sarah members is the accusation of not being a real conservative if you have legit issues with her. My main objective for scrutinizing all potential republican candidates is to ensure the most effective one wins. I have legitimate doubts with Sarah.
Margie| 8.14.10 @ 7:00PM
You must be blind. Every candidate she backs wins or is greatly helped. What does that say to you? And when she speaks, she speaks for REAL conservatives~ how is that any kind of detriment? She's like Ronald Reagan in that she knows what's right and just says it and does it. We don't need an another intellectually holier-than-thou in the White House. Don't you think America is thirsting for a REAL conservative like Sarah? Effective you say? Hmm. Yeah!
Bob Grant| 8.14.10 @ 7:35PM
Margie thanks for proving my point. Not a good strategy abandoning fellow conservatives if you want my opinion...agreed, Obama is a text-book example of why intellectuals should not be put in leadership positions. I believe conservatives many others want fiscal responsibility and a thriving free market. How about we refrain from labeling people as REAL this or REAL that, come together as sane Americans and right this terrible wrong that has been thrust on America. And PLEASE refrain from the Reagan comparisons. This is not helping!
rdman| 8.14.10 @ 10:27PM
Give it up Bob... you just don't get it and you're really making a fool out of youself.
I'm praying for another Ronald Reagan and if he comes in the form of a handsome woman with a record of accomplishments, common sense and real intellect, we can yet save our magnificent country.
Bob Grant | 8.14.10 @ 11:12PM
rdman, we all on the conservative side wish a Reagan equivalent would emerge. How about if we allow one to evolve naturally, in a political sense, and refrain from annointing one. My belief is that too often we become too emotionally invested in candidates, unable anymore to view them objectively. The most recent obvious example being the state run media's and 53 percent of the country's lovefest with our current commander in chief. I have a problem when it happens on the left, I have a problem when it happens on the right. Read Quin Hillyer's piece on Sarah. He raises many legitimate points. Unbiased.
scotchieguy| 8.15.10 @ 4:15AM
My points, exactly. This silly love-fest w/ Sarah is beyond obnoxious. It really isn't any different from the teeny-boppers at the Beatles' concerts. She is at best a "PTA-mom." OK, maybe an anchorette at FOX. Watch her videos carefully--she's kind of a little bleep, sort of a smart-ass. The number one reason I don't trust her is the names of her kids--Trek, Fud, Glop--who are these Palins? Why can't good conservatives realize that they are just a bunch of weird-o's? A bunch of freaks? BTW, has there ever, ever, ever been a more galvanizing figure in politics? The country is about as divided as during the civil war, and she emerges onto the scene. And as much as I love Reagan, his MSM he had to deal w/ was nothing like today--CBS, NBC,ABC and the Times and Post. That was it. Ten P.M. lights out.
Troll Watch| 8.15.10 @ 9:19AM
If we were in the run up to the 2012 election this might make some sense. That is the concern of who will be the candidate for President. We are not. We are approaching the 2010 election and this fixation on Sarah Palin by scotchie and Bob looks like trollish behavior, trying to make mischief amongst conservatives. When you read the responses by scotchie and Bob to what was written in the article you wonder where they are coming from? Why can't we get smarter trolls? What is it about her that makes the mental illness resident in liberals so obvious? I try not to but I can't help liking her a lot. Thanks scotchie.
scotchieguy| 8.15.10 @ 1:19PM
Troll, here are my two concerns in a nutshell. I think normally rational good conservatives have completely swallowed the Kool-Aid . This is identical to what the libs did w/ MR Change, and other than blacks, there has been incredible buyer's remorse. They were completely duped, and I fear the conservatives here will do exactly the same--that's if she can win the general, which I highly doubt. Even all the Reagan lovers have to concede he couldn't have won w/ out all the moderates (Reagan Democrats). Fortunately for us, he just used them to get elected. Usually it is the other way around for most repubs.
The second thing I have to confess is I really detest the shrill sound of that voice of hers--if she can't break glass w/ that nasty shreak, it simply can't be done.
Troll Watch| 8.15.10 @ 1:45PM
We are on to you scotchie. Why does she bring such a reaction from people like Andrew Sullivan and you? Is it some kind of complicated mommy thing or what?

Bob Grant| 8.15.10 @ 1:40PM
My comments on Sarah were not negative or personal, only objective observations. Margie| 8.15.10 @ 8:19PM
Well Mr. Grant~ I've been to your website (if it's you), and I e mailed you and you wrote me back.
I can tell by what you're saying that it may be you because I listen to you on the radio. Well let me tell you~ I am not one of those.
I get it that it matters that we elect the Republican party even if the candidate isn't perfect because why on Earth would we want to have the Democrats ruling over us? So yes, I will vote for the nominee even if it isn't Sarah. as I think most would. (I hope most would.)

rdman| 8.15.10 @ 7:49PM
Read the above Palin profile which you referred to as BS... followed by a sanctimonious "geeeeezz."
What this country needs is a President in touch with We the People and a breath of fresh air in Washington DC... an outsider to start cleaning house and busting up the left and right good-old-boys status quo. Our Republic (We the People) will not tolerate a left or right "Ruling Class."
Sarah Palin's background, performance and experience in Alaska reflects that she has the potential to be the next Ronald Reagan who was referred as a B movie actor, a dummy, not capable, blah, blah, blah by the so-called inside-the-beltway intellectuals.
Your trashing of Palin is transparent, shallow and petty. Under-estimating her at this point in time is a fool's play...

It's that the left has burned its' bridges with US.
And I for one am sick to the death of the oh-so-rational (alleged) Republicans who give us oh-so-rational reasons why she's not the right candidate. We heard the same old song sung to justify Juan McCain last time. Y'know why she's not the right candidate? Because she doesn't swing with the plaid-pants "Republican Progressives" who have turned the R party into Democrat lite, the only purpose of obtaining an office is to do their OWN friends the favors that the Dems do for THEIRS. We don't need any more of that used horsefodder. The country now needs more than a Conservative party, it needs a Restoration party! Restore all the good sense that made our country work. Restore ethics in government. Restore honorable action as an un-newsworthy commonplace. Restore dignity. Does anyone remember that Reagen would not even take off his jacket while in the Oval Office?
Bob Grant| 8.14.10 @ 11:04AM
A primary issue I have with staunch Palin supporters is they tend to project characteristics on to Sarah that might not be necessarily true: we want her to be a certain type of candidate, therefore she is.
Interestingly, this is exactly how Hussein Obama came to be. Her political trajectory is very similar.
All I ask is for fellow conservatives to step back and objectively take a look at her. Faults and all.
BTW, I would strongly urge her NOT to announce her run, if she so chooses, on Reagan's 100th. That would be a kamikaze political move of biblical proportions.

See, we don't need a big-dome egghead in the Whitehouse. Certainly we need reasonable intelligence, BUT, we need courage and clear-seeing and virtue more.
We also need someone on our side.
If Sarah runs, the nominating process will either weed her out, or allow her to burst into full-flower.
It is no accident that her new book will be released only after the November elections. She doesn't want her vision to steal the thunder from R candidates this summer/fall. The title should give us a good hint though.

OK, fellow conservatives...time to put away the Kool-Aid. Maybe, in '016, or '020, or '024...

Spot on! I've been beating my head against the wall trying to talk sense to my conservative friends, both in person or on blog sites. The reaction I get is alarming to say the least. I've been accused of being a liberal operative, a shill for Keith Olberman or George Soros, etc. The fact is she's not ready and the more she or her supporters push the issue, the more she appears opportunistic and Grifter-like. The Reagan comparisons will backfire most assuredly.
scotchieguy| 8.15.10 @ 3:26PM
They so badly want her to be the next Reagan. They are as blinded by her as the left was by Obama. The funny thing is, the more the MSM hammers her, the stronger they defend her. It's an ugly, vicious-circle. It's almost like they are envious of the left, and how the left got their rock star--even though he is a fraud--and now it's their turn. "She will be OUR Messiah!" "How DARE you attack our beloved Sarah!" Furthermore, the more this continues, the cockier she gets. It is definitely going to be interesting to see how this all plays out.
One other thing, all the right-wing talk-show hosts are completely on board w/ her. Not sure of Savage--he probably has enough sense to know better--but he is on at 2:00 AM, so haven't listened to him in a while. Medved thinks she can't win, so why bother. I'm surprised Dennis Preger supports her. He seems so much more reasonable than all of the other bombastic hosts out there.
Can't wait for the Nov. elections. After that, the race to 2012--hang on!
Bob Grant| 8.15.10 @ 3:53PM
Indeed, my sentiments as well.
Another aspect is that her supporters constantly press that she is an outsider. True, but what kind of outsider? I would be more on inclined to support her if she had a more established history of victorious battles fighting corruption and for government reform. As Hillyer mentions, that aspect is spotty at best. Her leadership skills are a huge unknown. Sure, she was responsible for a small staff at the Wasilla mayor's office and had to sway bureaucrats in Anchorage but these groups are not disparate enough to judge how she would perform in Washington. I say lets wait, let her fight battles and drive/lead changes within the republican party before she makes a presidential run.
That's the right way!! That would be the Reagan way!!
Methinks, however, TeamPalin would not be too eager to jump on the idea.
Sad.

Sarah Palin's Endorsement Record :
" Among the 28 candidates she's endorsed, according to her Facebook page, 10 have been women and 18 have been men. And of the 12 Palin-endorsed candidates who already have faced voters, four men and four women ended up winning the GOP nomination, while two men and two women have failed to win their party's nod -- so a 67% success rate for Palin's endorsements."

Maybe she should become someone's campaign manager.
Tom in Michigan| 8.15.10 @ 4:51PM
I’m not going to weigh in on Sarah Palin’s qualifications for elected office because the bar was lowered so far for Obama as to make the discussion moot. However, I must say leftist fear and loathing of Sarah Palin, evidenced by the amount of time and treasure the left expends critiquing her every thought, word and deed is hilarious. I mean; they are absolutely terrified of her. Imagine how they’d plotz if she was a man! Of course their vitriolic hatred can’t be sexist, can it? After all, leftists can’t be sexist, racist or anything else like; that’s the sole province of conservatives, as we all know. Keith Olbermann is a perfect example of the non-sexist left – no sexist he.
No. They’re terrified of Sarah because they know she has absolutely no fear of them and cannot be cowed (unlike many male Republicans I can name, but won’t) no matter how much they attack her. Why, if she can handle a 1,500 - pound moose, she can surely handle the average 98 - pound leftist girly-man, though she wouldn’t bother to shoot and gut the average leftist because there’s not enough meat to make it worthwhile and, even Sarah doesn’t kill just for sport.
Also, as a private citizen, she can say and do whatever she wants (short of slander of course; only leftists can slander at will without fear of legal reprisal), free of their endless FOIA intrusions. That REALLY drives them nuts. She is also the hot cheerleader who was totally out of their needle-d…, I mean pencil-necked league back in high school, where most of them have stalled emotionally and intellectually.
I shouldn’t be so mean to the left though because watching their discomfiture over Sarah is almost as side-splitting as Uncle Joe Biden’s weekly gaffes (full disclosure; I like Joe like my own dear, crazy Uncle and wish them both only the best, including an early and glorious retirement. Besides, Joe at least acted like a gentleman, and showed some dignity when he met Sarah Palin during the debates – his fellow Democrats could at least learn that much from him.) or the comic stylings of Al Franken on the Senate Judiciary Committee (I never thought he was funny on SNL but, he is a freaking riot as a Senator! I didn’t realize it until just now but, the bar was set even lower for him. Wonder how low it can go?).
Thanks for the laughs, guys.
Bob Grant| 8.15.10 @ 5:43PM
Tom in Michigan, I agree with pretty much everything you have to say. Although you don't go down the is-Sarah-qualified alley, I suspect you would vote for her, if anything, just to tweak the left, hollywood, and the media.
Understandable.
However, desperate times calls for desperate measures. The country will be so FUBAR in 2012 we as conservatives need the best and brightest to get us out of this seemingly insurmountable mess. This means not only someone who has all the right beliefs, but one who will be (a) an effective change driver in Washington (b) a 24/7 worker-bee type who knows and will surround and consult with the best and brightest conservative minds and (c) who bring back respect to the oval office by not taking vacations every other day, using the Airforce One fleet to fulfill your see-the-world dreams, etc.
Does Sarah really have the right stuff or do we WANT TO BELIEVE she has the right stuff?
Osamas Pajamas| 8.16.10 @ 2:20AM
Well, now that OhBummer has a little experience "playing President" he can point to it and lie about it. When he assumed office, he was less qualified then than Palin is today. I just hope Sarah doesn't become a fattie like Hillary HotDog.
Tom in Michigan| 8.15.10 @ 8:00PM
Wow, Bob! Your second (full) paragraph sounds like Sarah Palin to the tee-especially the part about the plane. Didn't she get rid of the Alaska Governor's jet? Sounds like you must be one of her supporters (but wait;, if you are you sure go to great lengths to tear her down in your posts above. Are you conflicted or just scared she might actually run?). Anyway, maybe I should rethink that whole "qualifications" thing.
As for voting for Palin or whomever; I'd have to be a total idiot to think my one little vote would "tweak" the left and act accordingly ("Babs? This is Bill and Hill! Did you hear that damned 'Tom in Michigan' guy voted for Palin? Man, we're cheesed at him!" C'mon, man).
Also, I don't vote based upon emotions (well, except for my visceral loathing of the left - I’ll admit to that emotion having at least SOME influence on how I vote) or what I "believe.” I vote what I know to be facts and, I do know one fact; one more leftist, Alinskyite radical in the White House or in the Speaker's or Majority Leader's seats and we are FUBAR my "fellow conservative."
scotchieguy| 8.15.10 @ 8:25PM
"I don't vote based on emotion." Really? What do you call the collective orgasm the right is currently having w/ this great heir to the Reagan throne? Yeah, you are full of all kinds of cynical barbs (Babs this is Bill and Hill..did you hear Tom voted for Palin ... man, we're cheesed at him) bla bla bla.
Why don't you step up and tell us why you really think she is the one...er...person (sorry) best qualified to run this great country. And try to do it w/out mentioning "God, guns or in-breds--er, family")
Margie| 8.15.10 @ 8:28PM
"I vote what I know to be facts and, I do know one fact; one more leftist, Alinskyite radical in the White House or in the Speaker's or Majority Leader's seats and we are FUBAR my "fellow conservative.""

...Marge, Palin needs to focus a little more on Thomas Friedman, a little less on Levi Johnston. Just sayin.
Margie| 8.16.10 @ 12:26AM
That does it. I'm reporting you to the authorities for impersonating a radio personality. You're in big trouble now. Better run. The man's gonna get ya.
You're showing your true colors. Bob Grant wouldn't suggest Freidman to anyone. Quoting the NY Times writer himself:
"In his September 30, 2007, column, Friedman declared that the era of "9/11 is over." Using the Giuliani campaign as a contrast, Friedman stated that he would support a candidate who was in tune with the post-9/11 world.
"We can’t afford to keep being this stupid! We have got to get our groove back. We need a president who will unite us around a common purpose, not a common enemy. Al Qaeda is about 9/11. We are about 9/12, we are about the Fourth of July — which is why I hope that anyone who runs on the 9/11 platform gets trounced.""
I think you need to focus on real reality, not Left Wing reality.
Bob Grant| 8.16.10 @ 11:38AM
My apologies. I meant Milton Friedman.
Margie| 8.16.10 @ 7:03PM
Mr. Grant. Apology accepted. I think. Well at least for the mistake. I can understand it especially because you may have been having a senior moment. But I do think you're looking at Sarah through foggy lenses. I hope the fog clears for you soon. In the meantime, we'll leave the light on for ya!
Bob Grant| 8.16.10 @ 7:27PM
Will Todd and Piper be waiting for me on the porch with weapons in hand? Ok. sorry, that was a low blow, couldn't help myself...Believe it or not, I will vote for her if I just have to. Don't want to however...we can agree this dictator must be removed, whomever will do the removing?
Margie| 8.16.10 @ 9:51PM
No. I'll be waiting for you. And after I get your autograph and my photo taken with you (if it's the real Bob Grant), but then again I already have both so maybe you are going to have to come up with something else. I know. You have to come back to doing a daily radio program again. Well maybe for 3 days a week, I'll be kind. That ok? I miss hearing you laughing at the crazies who call in to the show but most of all I miss Bob Grant the wonderful historian! No one brings to the air what you do, Mr. Grant. Each one is a different personality but yours was the consummate historian and you are sorely missed for that.
Now~ if you are a fake, phony fraud and NOT "thee" Mr. Grant then I've just wasted my words, eh?
To answer your question yes this dictator must be removed and of course we can agree. One question~ who would you want to see become the nominee?
Bob Grant| 8.16.10 @ 10:16PM
There are 2 candidates I believe would beat Obummer relatively easily if not for obstacles they have no control over:
(a) Jeb Bush - If he was Jeb Smith, popular former 2 term governor of a large state, he would without a doubt be at the top of the list. He has all the credentials, perfect age, intellect, etc. Too bad, his last name makes him a non-starter.
(b) Haley Barbour - Very effective and popular governor. He has a history of handling crisis well - Katrina, Oil spill. Excellent leadership abilities, smarts, political skills. The problem with him is he was a former Washington lobbyist which might not sit well with many angry voters. His biggest problem, however, is his voice. His heavy southern accent would be like nails to a chalkboard to people in the northeast and westcoast. I don't see how he could overcome this.
Those 2 right there would be shooins.
I'm also looking at Mitch Daniels, Christie, or Santorum.
scotchieguy| 8.17.10 @ 12:00AM
What about Pence, Ryan, or Kasich?
Margie| 8.17.10 @ 8:56AM
Re Pence, Ryan or Kasich~ I like them all! I've heard Ryan on the radio and he sounds great. I've heard people say he's "Socalist lite." But I don't see that at all. He's a man with a plan so to speak and literally! Has anyone else come up with anything? Let them come forward then and work with him since he's actually doing some work. What do they have?
See how we have many conservatives in our camp? It's actually hopeful once you put aside the requirements for perfection. We're in a horrible mess and these guys are on our side. I'll take them.
Bob Grant| 8.17.10 @ 10:22AM
I would seriously consider support any one of them. The problem is, none appear to be interested.
The main point I'm trying to make - and it seems you as well - is that whomever someone decides to support, keep in mind there is a good chance they will let you down; possibly in a big way - as G.W. Bush did for me.
I See too many people anointing Sarah. When - not if - she disappoints her supporters, then what? How will they react?
Margie| 8.17.10 @ 8:49AM
The mention of Jeb Bush around these parts isn't very welcomed it seems. Not by me though. I'm not sure what people have a problem with him about except for that like you said, he's a Bush. It's ever so popular to Bush bash and so uncool to speak well of GW. Since there are no perfect people on this Earth they look pretty darn good to me~ just think of the alternative party.
Hayley Barbour has always been a fave of mine. I think he's an awesome guy, as far as I can tell. I personally love the accent, but that's just me. It's too bad how people judge by appearances, isn't it? I think he'd be a great candidate.
I really need to start studying these guys some more. I know what Sarah Palin stands for. She's a conservative through and through and she makes it clear. That's why we love her. No games whatsoever. She's "too conservative" for some and those whose standards are in the toilet personally can't stand her because she makes them look bad. I say tough toenails. She ought to run if she wants to. No one's saying she has even decided to. We are just saying and very obviously and clearly that we would back her.
Mitch Daniels I don't know much about him yet but have heard good things and sure, I'd consider him. Chris Christie? Now you're talking! Fab-U-lous! Personally I want to see a man as President. He could do it. He's fearless but for the truth, not for Leftist ideology. I'm not naive though and I'm not saying he or anybody's going to be perfect and do everything we want them to, but that's what's so great about this country~ we can vote them out and they are not Kings~contrary to Obama's popular belief.
Santorum? Excellent man as far as I know. And he's got it all~ (as far as the appearances that people look at). He's handsome, intelligent, speaks well and conservative. He's the consummate conservative. Perhaps he's our guy.
Bob Grant| 8.17.10 @ 11:13AM
Marge. I think in Jeb's case he's a Bush so there's a huge RINO potential. I personally think Jeb would be less RINO than his family members. I could be wrong, maybe a Floridian could challenge this. From what I've seen, his ability to think on his feet distinguishes him from G.W. and G.H.W. I just think the total package (which means attracting independents, blue-dog dems, and disgruntled Obummer voters) is there. I believe he has the total package without alienating his conservative base in the long run; something the other Bushs were unable to achieve.
scotchieguy| 8.17.10 @ 7:37PM
Jeb is the only Bush we haven't trimmed--er, tried, yet. I always liked him the most of the three...kind of like the Mannings--I have always liked Eli the most. NFL talk. Barbour seems like a serious possiblilty. I really was impressed w/ Christie on ABC sunday show recently--no BS guy that is finally willing to take on those haughty damn unions. The unions are almost as high and mighty as the Fed Gov't. These two, in my view, are the anchors that will sink us. Time to wake up! No more "Alaska" talk from me. God, I hope things turn around...we need some luck. The prez is still in power, and the economy is either asleep or ready for free-fall. I don't like it. I don't like seeing all those cars for sale on the corner, or boats, or homes that have been on the market for months. I think something is going to happen real soon. Something serious. The economy. Iran. Something from the WH. The calm before the storm...
Bob Grant| 8.17.10 @ 7:54PM
Agreed with all of what you wrote.
31 months of recession is putting the hurt on all of us. We have a president who is both unwilling AND unable to turn things around. You could even argue he is deliberately sabotaging this country (I hate to go Alex Jones but WTF?)
This is without question the most perilous time in my life. I've spoken with my father and other elderly citizen and what they tell me and the look in their eyes say the same thing. I look to them for reassurance and they have the same concerned look as I have.
God help us all!!
Bob Grant| 8.15.10 @ 8:41PM
Come on TFM, you've gotta admit rebellion and victimization are main components of the Sarah phenomenon. As another poster mentioned, the more the media attacks and belittles her, the more she and her supporters push back, resulting in a vicious cycle. One that will eventually distract us from what should be our main focus: Removing this banana republic dictator we have in office.
I'm just stating mine and others' personal opinions of her at this time. This is all subject to change depending on how she conducts herself in the future. If she becomes a more serious candidate and less self promoter, then my opinion is subject to change.
BTW, your babs riff was humorous :)

The Democrats have this "enemies list" --- denominated in epithets aimed at the people whose wallets they wish to hijack and take up residence inside. You can be a “Racist!” and you can be a “Homophobe!” and you can be a “Teabagger!” --- a homosexual man taking his partner’s scrotum into his mouth. You can be “Selfish!” and you can be a “Hick!” and you can be a “Rube!” You can be a “Right-wing-nut!” and you can be "Unenlightened!" and you can be a “Fascist!” --- although no one more closely approaches the precise description of “Fascist!” than the usual Demo propagandist --- either official, or self-appointed.
So all you have to do to occupy multiple epithets on the Demos” enemies list is to insist that they take their hands off yourself, off your wallet, off your property, off your kids, off your diet, off your healthcare, off your household appliances, off your car, off your bank account, off your weapons of self-defense, off your liberty, and off your freedom of speech. Insist on all these good things - and that qualifies you to be spat upon by nasty, mean-spirited scum --- by The Friends of All Mankind --- by a gang of lying, thieving, sticky-fingered, bloodsxcking, predatory humanitarian thugs --- by the Democrat party, in other words. No political party in the history of America more profoundly deserves absolute and outright destruction.

Bob, first you need to learn how to compose a sentence that is understandable… I have no idea what you are trying to say. Do you have a succinct, salient point?
My last post spoke specifically to this thread. Sarah Palin has been thoroughly vetted as to her real background, experience and performance by thousands of We the People from all spectrums of our society. Sarah Palin is uniquely genuine in all the aspects important for Constitutional leadership in high public sector office.
You and your validating pal “Too Many Scotches” need to know that I have studied, observed and consulted on human nature and behavior for 35+ years.
“Too Many Scotches” just enjoys trashing without substantiating facts.
You on the other hand like to passively ramble, drift around, duck and dodge, not really sure of anything… conflicted… caused by the lack of substantiating facts.

Talk about the pot calling the kettle. This 30 seconds-of-wasted-time-I'll-never-get-back you call a post contains nothing of substance except this lightweight sentence that Sarah Palin could possibly have written:
"Sarah Palin is uniquely genuine in all the aspects important for Constitutional leadership in high public sector office. "

I guarantee you if Palin was a man she would be on the list with some of the other Republican men named in comments. She's an attractive woman and in our America today that means sex symbol.
Why! because that's the way the liberal press has portrayed her. It seems even so called Republicans have been brain washed by liberals.
She has more actual accomplishments than most Governors and as much brain power as any man named. I am not a feminatzi as Rush calls them but its plain no one can get over the fact she's a woman if they could they wouldn't ignore all she's accomplished. How many men on the list of prospective candidates have accomplished as much as Palin? Many American men and women are still prejudiced against a woman
president and worse than that they've drunk the kool-aid offered up by the progressive socialist media.
scotchieguy| 8.16.10 @ 8:16PM
So what are you sayin? BTW, you mis-spelled femi-nazi.
Bob Grant| 8.16.10 @ 8:24PM
This is what a I call victimization. All of us "so called republicans" don't like her because she's female. Nonsense!! I have issues with her because she does absolutely nothing to increase her capacity to bring in new voters. It's as if all detractors will just gravitate to her by magic. She's doesn't appear to be introspective what so every. If so, she would make subtle changes in her message to attract other voters.
I just don't see her as someone who will put in the grunt work to make an effective presidential candidate.
How 'bout instead of her making a series about Sarah...the...Alaskan (as if we didn't know she was Alaskan...sheesh. TALK ABOUT SELF INDULGENT), she could make a series on how she will - as president - revive the free market system. Maybe she could spend time becoming the serious candidate she will need to be to win the election!
scotchieguy| 8.16.10 @ 11:48PM
There is something else about her. She is part of a growing group of people around age 5o or so that seem really immature, narcissitic, clueless, etc. that are all taking center stage--Blago, Spitzer, Rahm, Obama, Kagan, etc. They all seem like adult-children to me--very intelligent, capable, brilliant but stuck in some adolescent stage, that they have never really trandscended. Maybe it's just me, but it seems that the so called ruling class are really the clueless class. I can't put my finger on it exactly, but something isn't quite right w/ some of these people...maybe Rdmen can help me...

Please take your "reasoning" and a wad of toilet paper down the hall.
scotchieguy| 8.17.10 @ 2:24AM
Anna, my point was Reagan was much more intelligent ECONOMICALLY than his peers. He wasn't some bozo spouting a bunch of sound-bites that sounded right. He literally devoted his life to the destruction of communism. He did this mainly through years of reading and studying Hayek, Locke, Marx, Lenin, etc. The MSM painted him as some B-grade actor who stumbled his way into office. My point was Reagan's economic literacy had a great deal to do w/ his getting us out of the economic recession and into some 25 years of unprecedented prosperity. I simply don't see that wisdom in your little bimbo Sarah. Not by a long stretch. And if you are in doubt, why not pursue this? Why not find out for yourself what kind ot intellectual fortitude this Sarah has. What do you have to lose? Afterall, the republic might actually be depending on our next commander in chief. I believe we are very close to where we were in 1860--now is not the time for neophytes.
Bob Grant| 8.17.10 @ 12:03PM
"I suspect Obama HAS read all those people. WTF has "reading them" have to do with having any understanding or wisdom???"
Why does this have to be an either/or situation?
Does book shunning really help the cause?
I'm curious, where DID Sarah acquire HER wisdom? If not books, where?
Mayor of Wasilla? - "like being mayor of Peyton Place" so stated Sarah
As Governor of Alaska for 2 plus years?
True, this would be considered executive experience which is a definite plus, but...
Just how much WISDOM or UNDERSTANDING is acquired dealing with the local issues of Alaska for such a short period of time?...Can this great knowledge base be transferred to governing the largest economy in the world?
Bob Grant| 8.17.10 @ 10:42AM
Scotch, perfect.
The bottom line, in my book at least, is that Reagan had a 12-13 year history of fighting for his conservative principles on a NATIONAL STAGE and within the republican party.
If Sarah want's to be the next leader of the conservative movement, she needs to begin within the republican party. Let's see how well she can drive changes within the party first - ON A NATIONAL LEVEL - before we make comparisons to Reagan.
I love Rush but he doesn't help when doing so.

Good point. We have a very impatient right-wing group who can't wait for Sarah to dive right in. She needs to pay her dues. My guess is You think in time she will mature and possibly evolve into the candidate we are looking for. Maybe. I just don't see it. I think she is a gorgeous, passionate, charismatic empty suit--always has, always will be. She is perfect for FOX--not Prez. I just don't think she is the only conservative we need to hang our hat on. Unfortunately, most of the people on this site--many of whom are very sharp--don't see it that way, and their haste will be the death of the party. It is already hanging by a thread...we'll see what happens.

I'm basically trying to kick the Sara Palin can down road past 2012. She's nowhere near ready for prime time at this time. The proof I have that she's not ready now is her inability to evolve. She' s the same person she was when she gave that speech on the convention floor in 2008:
A telegenic, charismatic speaker who speaks without that filter most politicians possess. This is both a blessing and a huge liability.
(a) she's a terrific bomb thrower
(b) she excites the conservative base like no other
(c) she in constant battle mode with hollywood and the mainstream media (a battle she started, bye the way)
These are all good traits but necessarily good as for a presidential candidate.
Plus, (and this is a little petty and unfair...I admit) I have a sneaking suspension there is some big, big skeleton in Todd's closet that will make this house of cards fall in 2 seconds.
Do we really want to take the chance?

Bob “Brain-Fart” Greene
Despite your duplicity and deviousness, people like you and your ilk always trip yourselves up because part of your perverted need for vindictive triumph includes the desire for your opposition to know who “attempted” to victimize them. Your need for attention becomes your nemesis. However, people like you and your ilk don’t care. Adoration by the unaware or condemnation and notoriety give you the attention you crave… being admired by the “useless idiots” or despised affirms, in their perverted minds, that you exist as “Somebody”, when in fact, you are “Nobody”.
In Short… arrogant, condescending pseudo intellectuals, shallow thinkers, petty muckraking bottom feeders.
Adios, Brain-Fart LOSERS!!!

Dude you need to chill...what a nut you are! Man, you would be perfect on the left--a veritable emotional bull in the china shop. Guys like you make one not work for a firm or corporation in fear that they may actually end up working for a jerk like you--what a f*cking as*hole!!! Man I hope to hell you don't have a wife/kids/friends...the world would be so much better w/out scum like you...you are an embarassment to the republican party--why don't you go over to Afghanistan and hide in a cave somewhere and save the rest of us humanity from the likes of your miserable sorry ass!
Bob Grant| 8.18.10 @ 3:34PM
rdmn, all I can say is that was quite a paragraph...
...interesting little bit of pop psychology but is completely irrelevant to the subject of the post. The only thing I can glean is you think I am some sort of shill or "useless idiot" of the left because I have concerns about Sarah.
... It's tiresome trying to convince you I have more in common with you than you want to admit. All I can say about that is continue to re-read my posts 'til the light bulb goes off.
In the meantime I will continue to post my opinions about the 'cuda.

Sounds like you and Redneck have become good buddies...can't wait to hear his response from me--this ought to be good. We are at a crossroads now. I am constantly feuding w/ my liberal sis from Chicago who insists she is a "moderate." She watches MSNBC, and follows them, so she thinks she is middle of the road...go figure! Anyway, the country has no need for moderates, since everyone is lined up on either side for a serious scrum--it's getting time for a real donny-brook, and I don't mean that to be at all funny. We just don't need naive hot-heads spewing their hate--and that is on the conservative side on sites like this. I wish I could say I had hope for the country, but I don't. It's going to get really ugly--and soon.
Bob Grant| 8.18.10 @ 8:24PM
I don't know if he's putting me or truly eat up with the Palin bug...frightening.
I have a name for those middle of the roaders you are referring to:
Floaters ( I hate em). They float around the political spectrum never knowing who or what to believe at any given moment. They hear something Obummer says they like, they support him. The next week they hear something Jim Demint said that catches their fancy, they support him.
On - and - friggin - on - it goes.
The problem is they VOTE!
They make up approx 20% of the voting electorate and have screwed up every stinking election the past 25 years.
Theyare the ones the politicians pander to.
They are the ones media panders to.
They are the ones the RINOS pander to.
Did I mention I hate em?

My theory is that Sarah didn't roll her eyes because the woman was a teacher - it was because the woman, with her 100-foot-sign, was blocking SP's view of Russia.
Bob, Granted she's not the candidate with the most gravitas, but she IS the one with the most cajones. I'd vote for her, since she knows how to surround herself with non-yes-men, and can make tough decisions. I agree that at this point, she can't win.
Bob Grant| 8.19.10 @ 7:05PM
I think she rolled her eyes because Todd was about to light a firecracker off camera...Seriously though, I have no idea who the people are in her inner circle. Maybe we should know this because if she did win the presidency, those people would fill White house positions. Will she bring along her crack staff from Peyton Place, errrr, Wasilla?
scotchieguy| 8.19.10 @ 8:49PM
Man, it would be like something out of Beverly Hillbillies, or maybe the Arkansas hillbillies Clinton dragged to DC. I still have a problem w/ a family who names their kids Trek, Stump, Clig, etc...how weird that family seems to me. And, no, I'm far from an elitist, just seems weird to me...
Not to mention the Levi soap opera...geeeeez! What a messed up country!
Bob Grant| 8.19.10 @ 9:16PM
The names, he he :)...I mean come on, her supporters should come to grips that if you rolled up the whole Palin saga you'd have a huge clusterfark sideshow. Throw in a couple of midgets, leggy super models, and a few shetland ponies, and you'd have a full-blow circus on your hands.
Do we really need this in 2012?
scotchieguy| 8.20.10 @ 8:52PM
No, but we could use the yuks. heh heh heh. It's just amazing to me. Just like Bret Farve and my state of MN...just a circus. You just can't make any of this up. And, despite all the funny things about the Palin family, there are supporters who are ready to kill in defense of her...truly astounding. It is a great time to be alive. I always thought the '30's would be an interesting time, although depressing and bleak...now I think we are about to give them a run for their money.
Bob Grant| 8.21.10 @ 2:47PM
I have friends who blindly support her. It's scary. They say Obummer was anointed and skates by but you could turn that around on Palin as well. Sadly, they don't see it. Unless she makes major adjustments, she will not beat The One...Farve is a punk. I can't believe the Vikings allow themselves to be played. If I'm a Vikings fan, I'd rather see a struggling up-and-comer than this fraud. What a waste of 13 mil or whatever he's getting!

It is very easy to point to someone and blame them for our problems. You can put up a huge banner, but if you really want to change something, you should start with yourself...
