Rush to the Altar

Did you hear who’s getting married today?

The other day at a party a lovely lady asked me if I had read the best-selling work, Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus, one of those self-help books which you cannot help yourself to for less than $29.95. In a moment of perversity, with malice aforethought and afterthought, I responded in the negative.

“Why not,” she asked gamely.

“Because everyone knows women are from Mercury.”

Still, you can’t live with ‘em and the Bible won’t let you live without ‘em, so what’s a fella to do? In the case of Rush Hudson Limbaugh IV, he has decided to take Kathryn Rogers as Mrs. Limbaugh IV on June IV, which shows you the ivy can be as potent as the mistletoe. In an effort to throw a bit of smoke, Rush closed his radio program Wednesday by saying he will be out until June 16 because he is off to add “another puppy” to his household, a gag that may well be jammed down his throat later, with or without chloroform.

The national audience may have been fooled, but here in South Florida we are in the know, fully aware our neighborhood will soon be housing Mister Rogers.

Limbaugh is a legend whose admirers are legion, and I think I speak for all the folks at The American Spectator when I say we are proud to number in those ranks. Besides for his greatness as a broadcaster inducted into that industry’s Hall of Fame, he has done a great service for America these past two decades by enunciating a point of view mostly distorted by conventional media. Honest liberals will admit that he has played this role with courage and aplomb, never wilting under the glare of angry opposition.

It has become a slogan of the American left to denounce Limbaugh as dangerous. It is hard to see how a man struggling on a non-visual medium to explain the viewpoint of half the country’s electorate can be said to pose a threat to anything but censorship. If both sides need to be heard but one side controls the P.A. system, there is great virtue in grabbing a soapbox and trying to level the playing field just a whit, and wittily too.

His personal struggles have received broad attention, but the man has persevered mightily. To be a successful radio guy using a cochlear implant to manage his deafness makes him a poster child for the ability to overcome disability. Hopefully this marriage will bring him the missing puzzle piece to complete his picture of happiness. Hopefully, too, it will last forever.

The last word as always must go to H.L. Mencken: “Men have a better time than women: for one thing, they marry later; for another thing, they die earlier.” Okay, enough with the humor. All together then: congratulations, Rush and Kathryn.

All the best, Rush and Kathryn.

Fare thee always well.

Missy| 6.4.10 @ 2:54PM

Eat your hearts out, loser libs!

Thank God for Rush, a stalwart defender of our Republic.

Alan Brooks| 6.4.10 @ 10:52PM

"It has become a slogan of the American left to denounce Limbaugh as dangerous."

They secretly like him because he is so talented, Americans admire talent.
But Glenn Beck is not dangerous, he is just another celebrity:
Beck, O' Reilly, Savage, etc; all of them wont be remembered much decades from now-- but Rush shall be remembered, as Will Rogers is remembered.

Alan Brooks| 6.4.10 @ 10:57PM

... oops, publik skool grammar:
the above ought to read: none of them will be remembered much,
not
"all of them wont be remembered much". The latter is awkward syntax.

Deborah D | 6.4.10 @ 6:32AM

Well, congratulations, Rush!! You deserve every happiness. We love you, friend I've never met!

Alan Brooks| 6.5.10 @ 9:32PM

Rush is a good as any guy-- whatever that means.

Like, Michael Jackson was a kind person, but say it were legal to marry the underage...
how many cub scouts would Jacko marry before he found Mr. Right?

Richard Baker| 6.4.10 @ 6:34AM

I can just hear the shrill yammering of the femi-Nazis on this. Congratulations to the Limbaughs and a happy life together.

SoCon| 6.4.10 @ 6:37AM

Congratulations, Rush! Hope you two are blissfully happy forever.

James| 6.4.10 @ 6:40AM

Will the 4th time be the charm?

Good luck and best wishes, Rush.

Carol| 6.4.10 @ 7:26AM

How nice of The American Spectator to make note of this.

I too am a fan and am already having Rush withdrawals.

I wish only the best for Rush and Kathryn.

May God bless them in their lives and may God keep the Commies away from one of America's greatest gifts to us all!

Alex M.| 6.4.10 @ 1:25PM

Rush, Rush, Rush to Cardiac Care. DOA

Nobama| 6.4.10 @ 2:45PM

Scratch the surface of a "TOLERANT" Liberal and the putrid stench of hatred ALWAYS bursts forth.

Rush looks great, has lost weight and he's found love--must be killing you losers! Hahaha

"Still, you can't live with 'em and the Bible won't let you live without 'em, so what's a fella to do?"

The Bible condones another marriage after three divorces? Rush is 59, Kathryn, 33.

Appleby| 6.6.10 @ 9:37AM

Another man in midlife crisis trying to rejuvenate his wee-wee with a bride the age of his children.

What next, Viagra commercials starring the Man and Current Wife?

Nate| 6.6.10 @ 9:03PM

Don't be such a sourpuss, Appleby; your bitterness is showing.

Denver Todd| 6.4.10 @ 8:34AM

I am surprised that TMZ didn't announce this first.

Rush and Kathryn:
Dittos to you both. May you have all happiness, and long may you wave.

Fourth wife. Good to know he takes his marriage vows seriously. What a Christian!

Let's all wish Rush and his wife a happy half-dozen years together.

Gerald D.| 6.4.10 @ 10:28AM

Well ain't God good!

YOB| 6.4.10 @ 10:41AM

He's good all right; when we can't get it up, He'll get it up for us! Glory!

And if we just praise His name, He'll give us one woman after another to wear out, to wear out, to wear out. Glory!

Anne T.| 6.4.10 @ 10:44AM

Not to mention how fond Rush is of porno, according to his friends.

Wonder if his brand new wife will object to the nasty fetish porno Rush can't get enough of! With all that money, I doubt it.

Praise God! He's got him a new wife to play with!

Margie| 6.4.10 @ 10:47AM

I thank Jesus that He--my Lord and Savior--has given Rush another woman to cherish and to love for all the days of his life, in sickness and in health.

Thank you Jesus.

Margie| 6.4.10 @ 2:43PM

OK folks, I did not write this post. ^^
Let me quote my Dad~ "Hey, num-nuts, I can speak for myself."
Go away, fraud!

tonypal| 6.4.10 @ 11:18AM

Who exactly are these friends, Anne T.? Care to back up what you say with some facts, or are you just another sick leftist suffering from projection?

Cpm| 6.4.10 @ 1:05PM

Anne, you are one sick, bitter broad.

Kathleen| 6.4.10 @ 2:51PM

Anne's just the typical man hating Feminazi Rush has laughed at and about for 20 years.

Anne's miserable and Rush is happy--everything is as it should be.

PolishKnight| 6.4.10 @ 9:23AM

I hate to agree with Toddard, but he has a point. After number 3, the sanctity of marriage is a bit of a joke. Not to say that Rush didn't take the marriage vows seriously at the time but three failed marriages are evidence that he's not the marrying type. There's no reason for him to marry other than maybe kids and that's highly unlikely.

He should just shack up if he likes the girl. If she likes him, that should be good enough.

SCM| 6.4.10 @ 12:22PM

I suppose if Rush had gone to Massachusetts to marry a guy this time, the leftists would have had to say all is well and good.

Missy| 6.4.10 @ 2:55PM

LOL!

Bill Browne | 6.4.10 @ 11:59AM

So right. Love is in air and like everything else it gets stale. Six years is a good estimate of the marriage cycle.
As much as Rush is loved by his audience, his new wife will have to have a sturdy ego. At least they will have a few years of togetherness.

The Big E| 6.4.10 @ 11:14AM

So, just how small of a person does it take to wish people ill in their marriage? Whether its their first or their tenth?

Maybe you should try having a little less hatred in your life. You'll probably be happier and live longer (regardless of your political point of view).

tonypal| 6.4.10 @ 11:19AM

How dare you challenge the nonjudgmentalism and openmindedness of a liberal. Shame on you.

Taxpayer| 6.4.10 @ 11:06PM

I hear ya. I remember on our wedding night, my husband and I walked into the hotel where we would honeymoon. We were greeted by some hotel guests who laughed at us and told us how stupid we were to get married.

This summer we'll be celebrating our 25th anniversary. Haters like that can kiss my grits.

Missy| 6.5.10 @ 12:16AM

Congratulations!

The Bishop| 6.4.10 @ 9:32AM

Way to take the high moral ground, PolishKnight. As to Toddard's judgment of Rush's Christianity, I'm thankful that I'll stand ultimately before one Judge regarding that (and it ain't Stoddard). Dittoes, Rush and Kathryn. May God bless you both.

Matt Morehouse| 6.4.10 @ 10:01AM

Much as I respect and admire Rush I hope he has a strong pre-nuptual marital agreement.

I wish them every success and happiness.

True conservative| 6.4.10 @ 10:05AM

Four? Really? When do to misguided conservatives wake up and realize that real men don't trade in wives like used cars? Rush Blahblah asserts himself as the leader of the conservative movement, yet can't uphold a marriage vow, and everyone ignores the inconsistency between how true conservatives lead their lives and how a talk show host leads his. So whats the difference between Rush and Larry King? C'mon people, this isn't the time to continue accepting this from self-purported "leaders". Congratulations to Rush on making so much money while delivering so little substance.

True conservative| 6.4.10 @ 10:05AM

Nobama| 6.4.10 @ 2:58PM

You were so proud of your inane ramblings you posted them twice. Thanks for nothing.

Only losers double post.

Derek Leaberry| 6.4.10 @ 10:14AM

Limbaugh discredits conservatism with his four marriages and narcissistic persona. Sadly, his face is the face of conservatism, at least in the minds of the public at large, and that face is a rather ugly.

tonypal| 6.4.10 @ 11:22AM

Why don't you crawl back to the DailyKos and let us conservatives decide who discredits conservatism and who doesn't. At least conservatism is self-discrediting, like liberalism.

Derek Leaberry| 6.4.10 @ 12:15PM

And I thought we conservatives supported family values and true lifelong marriage rather than serial marriage as is the case with Rush Limbaugh and Newt Gingrich. How do we conservatives, if in fact you are a conservative, support family values when the face of conservatism is Rush Limbaugh, now on his fourth marriage? Don't conservatives look like hypocrites when we support a man who doesn't seem to have any family values?

Cpm| 6.4.10 @ 1:09PM

Derek, it hasn't been established that you even are a conservative. You sound more like a seminar blogger. Under the bridge with yee, sir.

B. N. Sampson| 6.4.10 @ 1:23PM

"We consevatives" are as hypocritical as they come. If the obnoxious lout espouses our cause, we not only tolerate him, we praise him, no matter how repugnant his behavior.

I am conservative, and I detest Rush and his bully-boy podium. Indeed, he gives conservatism an ugly face.

PolishKnight| 6.4.10 @ 1:33PM

Sampson, spotting fake conservatives is so incredibly easy. Some may criticize Rush's mistakes in life, but few actual conservatives consider him obnoxious. He's actually quite polite and friendly to the opposition on the radio compared to (now defunct) Air America bully pulpits.

I think Rush bothering to get married for a 4th time is a mistake but is he being hypocritical? Lessee: I don't seem to recall him ever saying that divorce should be illegal.

On the other hand, the left is a bunch of baldfaced hypocrites preaching how oil is evil (but driving cars), that racism is evil (and bashing whites) and that diversity is what makes America great even as they aspire it to become a copy of Sweden.

Rush fails to live up to his principles at times. The left HAS NONE.

Nobama| 6.4.10 @ 3:05PM

Derek, why do you always go off the deep end? You excoriated Bristol Palin for her frailties and now Rush. No one's perfect--including YOU. When you point your finger at someone else, three of your fingers are pointing back at you.

You've got "issues" you crazy old loon.

tonypal| 6.5.10 @ 1:33AM

I meant to say conservatism ISN'T self-discrediting. Sorry for the error.

James| 6.4.10 @ 3:12PM

Nobody can discredit Conservatism, it stands on its own merits. A "true" Conservative would know this.

What an idiot you are.

Bonnie| 6.4.10 @ 10:19AM

God bless you, Rush and Kathryn.

Is she really only 33? I'm thinking pups of a different kind here, maybe three. Rush V, Rush VI, and Rushina. Oh, wouldn't that be wonderful?

Jenfidel| 6.4.10 @ 10:31AM

I wish all the best to dear Rush and his new bride Kathryn!
Rush, I hope that this time, you've finally found the lady that you've been looking for all your life!
Kathryn, Rush is probably a handful and then some, but he's an American institution--Handle with prayer and lots of joy and laughter!
I'd love to see some children come out of this. Rush needs to be a father to real children as well as the Conservative Movement in America today.
May God bless you both richly!

The Army Aviator| 6.4.10 @ 10:39AM

I certainly hope that Rush and Kathryn will be happy togehter! They are both nice people and deserve a good life together.

I've known Rush since his days in Kansas City. He was really good with our (Ft. Leavenworth) Command & General Staff College class regarding tickets to several games. Although he had never served in the Armed Forces, he really fawned over us army guys and we loved him too.

Again, all the best to a great American and his bride.

David Delacroix| 6.4.10 @ 10:39AM

Since when is a Conservative necessarily a Christian?

Jerry SK| 6.4.10 @ 10:46AM

I never cease to be amazed by good folks on the political left that espouse the value of tolerance all the while having no tolerance for opinions other than thier own. The late Mr. Kennedy, although an elected political and leftist hero (now an icon) was not exactly a paragon of marriage virture. Could it be that the marriage relationship trancends politial perspective?

Good luck to Rush and Kathryn.

Petronius| 6.4.10 @ 11:16AM

? Why do people accept the premise that any persons behavior negates the value of the principles he or she advocates? Do any of us know the circumstances for the breakups of his previous marriages? The lives and households of major public figures aren't like ours in the least. So if this lady has the ability to withstand the opprobrium and venom which will be coming her way because of her husbands reputation I too will raise my glass to this union.
Prosit!

bill glass| 6.4.10 @ 11:23AM

God bless them, and it's great for Rush to have someone love him...he's on the receiving end of so much hatred - he even says that eventually his detractors will take him down, so this marriage is the best thing---no question.

Schnauzer Chef | 6.4.10 @ 11:32AM

Huge Congratulations and God's Blessings and Love.

Ole Sarge| 6.4.10 @ 11:33AM

Wow! I thought that with two of them, the gals LEFT him over things like... spending too much time at work, or at events connected with work; or his opinions and viewpoints impacted negatively upon her ability to earn an income.

Ole Sarge| 6.4.10 @ 11:37AM

Please make no mistake, I really wish them both a long and very happy life together.

Ken (Old Texican)| 6.4.10 @ 12:08PM

Well, folks
Dereck-druk
and
Toddard
Had to show their asses yet one more time.

I remember Rush's attitude with his last goldigger wife. He praised her to the high heavens at every opportunity...and he even "made" opportunities to make sure her best thoughts were passed along to us in the audience. That demonstrates "respect for her", in my judgement.

Thirty some million different Americans a week drop in on Rush. ie: if he thinks something is worth talking and thinking about.

Folks, when one is truly a genius, and very public about it for the common good.....one can be very difficult to live with. Heh, I can personally attest to that. My wife is world famous, and an acknowledged "genius" in her medical field. (Well, OK, so am I in my own field, but that is a different subject.)
Heck.....we are BOTH difficult to live with, heh!

OK, come on snipers, it is time to get out of bed and start showing YOUR asses.

Quartermaster| 6.4.10 @ 6:19PM

Did you expect anything different from Toddard the Doddard? I don't see what entertainment value they get from this site as he always seems to have his panties in a wad.

Carolynn | 6.4.10 @ 12:24PM

Best Wishes! Thanks for having Mark Bellinger fill in -- he rocks and I don't miss you as much.

Mom In Latteland| 6.4.10 @ 12:30PM

It would definitely be better if Rush had kept his first wife and then just had affairs with women ala Bill Clinton and Tiger Woods. /sarc

NJK| 6.4.10 @ 1:25PM

So this is where Mark Levin went. God Bless both of you Rush. And our best to the furry family members too.

Tim| 6.4.10 @ 1:40PM

After four weddings Rush should be buying gifts for his guests, not the other way round.

Rankled| 6.4.10 @ 1:50PM

Polish Knight - among others above, although it takes two to tango, it only takes one to take off . Why do you think it was Rush that ended or caused to be ended - other marriages?

Maybe he is that harmless little fuzz-ball wandering in a jungle of predator women. God knows, there are enough of them looking for platinum credit cards, hot and cold running maids and the luxury that goes with it.

If Rush has hit the jackpot, I say it is high time, after Marta, who "found" him via computer! I don't think I ever saw Marta - but somehow she reminds me of Niles Crane's "Maris", on the old "Frazier" show. Never saw her either.

TURK| 6.4.10 @ 1:51PM

slt--PolishK--Anne--True Con(I'm in pain laughing)-Derek et al: you are the manure pile minus the pony! Why DO you people choose to crawl from under your America hating, Godless rock over in the landfill that is the democrat collection, to slink around such as The Spectator site?? THIS time it's to insult El Rushbo! As he says from time to time:he does reside inside those mushy heads, doesnt he?

TO RUSH: SALUD!!

Gretchen| 6.4.10 @ 2:43PM

Rush -- I wish you and your bride many, many years of happiness together.

Margie| 6.4.10 @ 3:05PM

And now, I will speak for myself, though immitation is the sincerest form of flattery, stealing someone's I.D. and pretending to be them just isn't quite the same thing. (above).

Love you, el Rushbo. Kathryn is very fortunate! Take good care of him Kathryn, and treat him like the wonderful soul that he is. Putting each other first seems to be the key to a good Marriage, and always remember this:

"But Jesus looked at them and said to them, "With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible." Mt. 19:26.

I truly wish you my very, very best.

Dixie Pixie| 6.4.10 @ 3:18PM

Congratulations Rush and Kathryn.

Let me take the opportunity to second Bonnie's wish.
May the heavily fortified EIB bunker resonate with the happy sound of the pitter-patter of little feet and the laughter of new Rushisms.

Claypoole| 6.4.10 @ 3:28PM

My fellow conservatives, please be mindful of the fact that the insufferable anti-Semite Jimmy Carter has been married to Rosalyn for decades.

Congratulations, Rush, and best wishes for a long and happy life together.

Billy Bob| 6.4.10 @ 3:40PM

Yes, it must be that El Rushbo's clock struck 12 for love and children. I predict that there will be at least one heir from this union and it will be none other than Rush Hudson Limbaugh V.

Cabermon| 6.4.10 @ 4:54PM

Best Wishes to Rush & Kathryn.
Now to Jay:

Sir, you masterfully mix metaphors like the late Julia Child mixed sauce Bearnaise!

A triple, with extra points for an alliteration! To wit:

Cheers!

Nate| 6.4.10 @ 7:49PM

Limbaugh was much more insightful and much funnier during the Clinton years.

The secret, as the ancients knew, of good satire is identifying with the target, and -- as we all know -- Limbaugh and Clinton had much in common. Their politics, obviously, are different, but these difference are superficial. Both are men of absurd appetites; both are extraordinarily sensitive to their audience's expectations, fears, insecurities, ambitions, fantasies, etc.

On Obama Limbaugh is limp, predictable, nasty, hyperbolic. He doesn't get Obama the way he got Clinton.

Satire attacks vice. With Clinton, that was easy. Obama is not a man of vices. Say what you want about him: his nature is temperate. That's why Limbaugh can't get ahold of him.

PCP Smoker| 6.4.10 @ 8:04PM

Ok, David Frum. You don't have to use a pseudonym to hide your pathetic self. Now fuck off and go back to your pathetic website.

They are too stupid to see through a fat drug addled prostitute, who has found a schtick that appeals to the lowest common denominator of humanity. There have been times through-out the years that I had to hold onto the MOP because I was laughing so hard while cleaning the floor. Katherine demand a belly laugh a day. Make him take that vow! There will be no Rush V. It will be Rush IV. The article is incorrect. Rush's full name is Rush Hudson Limbaugh III not IV.

Ah, love! Seems only a few years ago we heard Rush exclaim on the air, in frustration: "If I EVER mention marriage to you again, I want you to tie me up and leave me staked out at high tide!" Who gets to bell the cat? Who am I to judge? I've been there before...

So as Newt Gingrich does while standing next to his third wife (who, as was true for Gingrich's second wife, was previously known as his "adulterous mistress"), Rush Limbaugh will now crusade for Traditional Marriage with his fourth wife (and counting) at his side. As is so often the case, the Traditional Marriage movement is led by people who discard their wives and get new, younger replacements the way most people change underwear.

Rush Limbaugh is an adulterer, a lech, and worst of all - a hypocrite.

I don't know. There are, of course, some hypocrites who wag their fingers in people's faces about sex then carry on squalid affairs of their own.

My sense is that Limbaugh is not terribly interested in issues related to personal, adult sexual morality. I'm not saying he's a raving libertine, but this aspect of conservatism doesn't seem his main interest.

It is, however, ironic that Newt and Rush have been to the altar more than once, while Obama married his first serious girlfriend and there's never been a hint of trouble in that relationship, and while Bill Clinton -- say what you will -- is still married to his first wife.

Tiger's still married to his first wife, too--and he was never accused of raping a woman like Clinton.

Limbaugh has been "accused" of availing himself of the Dominican Republic's skin trade. When he was caught flying back to the US with a bottle of Viagra -- and no female companion in tow -- it was rather easy to make assumptions. The DR is evidently a sex tourism destination, and the allegations can get pretty creepy, because there's a huge number of child prostitutes there.

But again we have an accusation being made. Accusations are accusations. They don't really mean all that much, particularly when it comes to public figures whom many people want to ruin.

I don't believe any of these allegations and wouldn't unless some pretty solid evidence was provided to support them. Clinton is surely a womanizer, but I say that in view of mountains of evidence to support the claim. The "rape" charge seems a version of the "murder" charge in relation to Foster.

Not knowing the details of the demise of Rush's marriages, I for one can't comment on his bona fides as a Christian or a Conservative. Having read his numerous biographies, I find it telling that his ex wives said he's a nice guy.

President Obama has availed himself of the delights of Larry Sinclair, which has not interfered with his marriage, like a real down-low brother does.
