Why They Hate

The Tea Parties throw the whole progressive narrative off-kilter.

Former ACORN president Bertha Lewis must have been in a foul mood last month. Once the queen bee of the community organizing left, Lewis had watched ACORN come crashing down around her, destroyed by two young college students with a video camera. Her eyes smoldering, Lewis took to the podium at a Democratic Socialists of America gathering and lit into the Tea Parties of late.

“This is not rhetoric or hyperbole — this is real,” she thundered. “This rise of this Tea Party so-called movement — bowel movement in my estimation — and this blatant uncovering and ripping off the mask of racism.”

What is it about the Tea Parties that sends the left into paroxysms of rage? Lewis is hardly alone with such screeching verb-less statements. The entire left, from the scribes at the New Republic to the talking heads on MSNBC, have been driven mad by a handful of relatively peaceful demonstrators. Bill Clinton warned that the waving of Don’t Tread on Me flags could lead like night into day to another Oklahoma City bombing, Harry Reid defied my spellchecker by declaring Tea Partiers to be “evilmongers,” Keith Olbermann dedicated two interminable Special Comments to his indignant rage at the protesters, and Frank Rich dutifully spent week after week drawing parallels between the Tea Parties and racists of days gone by.

In fairness, there’s been plenty of derision from conservatives directed at, say, anti-war demonstrators during the Bush years. But never before has an entire ideological establishment whipped itself into such a frenzy over a group of protesters. What’s going on here?

The problem with the Tea Partiers is that they defy the narrative progressives have written for How the World Works. As the left sees it, America is divided between The People and The Corporations — interchangeable with The Rich, The Powerful, Big Business, and Wall Street. The Corporations exist for the sole reason of persecuting The People and ensuring that The People don’t receive their fair share. The only way to prevent The Corporations from laying waste to the entire country is for the government to act as a central repository for The People’s faith and money, and use it to fight back against the corporate powers of darkness.

Therefore, Republicans oppose big government because they are in the service of The Corporations. Democrats support big government because they fight on behalf of The People. Cut, copied, and pasted into Ed Schultz’s Teleprompter every night.

This remarkably simplistic narrative has been canonized wholesale by the entire progressive left. We’ve heard it referenced constantly during, for example, the speculation over Obama’s coming Supreme Court pick, when progressives began demanding a nominee who would stand up for the powerless rather than the powerful (completely ignoring the Founders’ intention to make the Supreme Court aristocratic). During the recession, progressives were outraged that Wall Street was somehow performing better than some place called Main Street. Al Gore’s 2000 campaign slogan was “The People, Not the Powerful.” Inconvenient facts — Wall Street donates far more to Democrats than Republicans, for example — are smothered by this all-consuming narrative.

The Tea Parties turned this entire worldview on its head. Democrats took up the cause of health care reform to strike a blow against ghastly health insurance companies on behalf of The People. It was to be another cut-and-dried case of average Americans demanding their due from the rich and powerful.

Instead, the only average Americans who showed up were angrily confronting their congressmen at town hall meetings and waving Gadsden flags in the streets of Washington. Polls showed the Democrats’ approval numbers in freefall and independents becoming sympathetic with the Tea Parties. Suddenly, it seemed to the casual observer that The People were the Tea Party protesters and The Powerful were the PhRMA-allied Democratic managers in Washington working against public opinion. The entire progressive narrative collapsed.

A progressive dream — thousands of Americans protesting in the streets — had been turned against them. The left responded first by trying to prove that Tea Partiers weren’t The People; they were astroturfers, paid agents of the insurance companies. When that didn’t stick, progressives began throwing everything at the wall. The Tea Partiers were racists, Fox News drones, teabaggers, morons — anything to drown out the truth that these were the same middle-class Americans that the left had been trying to marshal against the insurance companies.

It didn’t work. The Democrats did manage to heave health care reform across the finish line, but they lost The People in the process. Worse, they cast themselves as elites indifferent to their constituents.

This is the central paradox of the left. Progressives are driven by class warfare against elites, but they themselves often are the elites. It’s no coincidence that coastal urban areas vote Democrat en masse. The People of flyover country stubbornly cling to conservative values despite the fact that progressives desperately want to fight for them. This quandary was explored in detail in Thomas Frank’s stridently condescending book What’s the Matter with Kansas? in which the progressive Frank wonders why those damn Midwestern rubes keep voting against their own economic interests.

It’s a problem that’s confounded progressives since their halcyon days. In the early 1900s, urban reformers decided it was time for the federal government to start helping farmers more. But the farmers themselves resisted, clinging to their values of frontier individualism. One letter to a farm journal in 1904 commented, “The tendency and drift of public sentiment and all legislation is toward centralization and consolidation when it ought to be in the other direction, to distribute power and divide honors, and make the individual more responsible, instead of the township, the county, or the mass of the people.”

The farmers weren’t rising up against powerful interests; they weren’t fitting into the progressive narrative. All this led progressive Kenyon Butterfield to scold, “Present-day living is so distinctively social, progress is so dependent upon social agencies, social development is so rapid, that if the farmer is to keep his status he must be fully in step with the rest of the army. He must secure the social view-point.”

The left faces the same problem today. And once again, instead of trying to understand the Tea Parties and their libertarianism, progressives are exasperatedly lecturing The People on why it would behoove them to get in line.

Tellingly, progressives insisted that Obama’s next initiative be sweeping Wall Street reform. They want the world to make sense again, and it only will if they’re rallying public anger against The Corporations. But it may already be too late. The Tea Partiers lost the health care battle, but they won the war against the progressive agenda. The left’s Theory of Everything has been refuted. It turns out The People are angry, but at all the wrong targets.

The Progressives tactics are based on the end justifies the means. They have no qualms about lying, violence etc. on the end agenda is important. Most Americans are honest and want to play by the rules. They think the progressive opposition possess the same principles. That however is not the case, so sometimes Americans are fooled by what progressives present as their case fro their agenda. The rule should be never accept Progressive thoughts for what they say beware of a of the ulterior agenda, there is always is one.

Son Of Sam| 4.30.10 @ 3:53PM

I agree K962, and think that it perhaps goes even deeper than that: the ObamaNazis believe in their "progressive" ideology because it satisfies their innate emotional needs to lie, steal, cheat and act like the spoiled brat finger pointing bed wetting little crybabies we know them to be. They invented the "progressive" ideology not to help people, but to give themselves a rationalization for their own hate-filled ranting and vitriol. That's why this election is so important: so that we, the proud of America and sound of mind GROWNUPS can begin to take back our country from these nutcases

stand strong until freedom dawns

Without being ingratiating (I wont praise Old Texican, will only be an aggressive redblooded American) Republicans are the ones who change things now. However, celebrity culture has swallowed politics; Palin is the Teaparty Superstar-- and I want nothing to do with celebrity culture.

You dig your grave; I'll dig mine, and whomever has the most gadgets when he (or she) dies wins.

SoCon| 4.30.10 @ 5:24PM

I got a deal for you, Alan; how about I dig your grave for you and you jump in? Works for me.

You keep bleating about Palin and her celebrity culture success yet you ignore the disgusting cult-like following of Obama! Talk about a pop culture Prince!!

You're just another hypocritical braindead liberal.

Alan Brooks| 4.30.10 @ 6:30PM

Go ahead, dig my grave.
But I am voting for Obama in '12, and you can't intimidate anyone away from voting their conscience. Obama is a politician; Palin holds no public office any longer-- what (or whom) is someone who is involved in politics yet holds no office?:
a media person (i.e. journalist, TV news/sportscaster, etc.);
or a celebrity.

So take your pick, which is Palin? a media person, a celebrity, or perhaps both?

Alan Brooks| 4.30.10 @ 6:33PM

... and yes there are political activists but they aren't famous, because once you become famous you are a celebrity.

Opus #6 | 4.30.10 @ 10:45PM

Hey, Alan. ACORN called. Your check is ready.

GreyLion| 5.1.10 @ 6:38AM

The check bounced. That is why Al is here.

SoCon| 4.30.10 @ 8:24PM

You've got the wrong party, Alan--you liberal thugs and bullies are the ones who specialize in intimidation: ACORN and the SEIU are just two of the violent groups doing your dirty work for you. But you already knew that, didn't you?!

Palin's a citizen-politician who has resonated with a huge swath of ordinary Americans. I don't know if she wants all the BS that comes with running for POTUS, but if the Governor decides to run--I'll work my tail off on her behalf.

And I don't care what you liberals think.

Silver Streak| 5.1.10 @ 9:24AM

Sarah "I can see Russia from my house" Palin is laughing at y'all on her way to the bank. So is Rush, Glenn, Sean and Bill. The echo chamber makes millions praying on your worst fears and prejudices. The TeaParty prides itself on being like the original Boston Tea Party that was fighting against taxation without representation. Clearly they are against taxes, but this, when taxes in this country are at historic lows. They have representation though, and that's where the whole TeaParty movement falls apart. They are angry, sure, but that's not news. The TeaParty are mostly older, white, mid-to-upper middle class from the Republican party - so what's new there? The extreme hype around 2000-2500 protesters is amazing, when this weekend, truly spectacular numbers - hundreds of thousands - are protesting the new Arizona Immigration Law . Now, those are crowds to fear .... TeaParty may be Anarchists, but they are a small minority, fired up, but small in number, nothing to get too worried about.

Margie| 5.1.10 @ 10:23PM

Duuuuuhhhhh.

SoCon| 5.1.10 @ 10:59PM

You crack me up, Margie.

Purpleguy| 5.2.10 @ 10:34PM

Until you can refute what I say, silence is acceptance. Glad to see you believe what I have posted... maybe you are finally waking up.

REMEMBER NOVEMBER!| 5.2.10 @ 11:30PM

We'll see who gets the wake up call in November, clown.

Extremely Extreme Extremist| 5.4.10 @ 2:21PM

Hmm. Well, let's start with this, Purpleguy:

"The TeaParty prides itself on being like the original Boston Tea Party that was fighting against taxation without representation."

Now what can this brave attempt at an English sentence mean? Either you're claiming that modern TP'ers are trying to imitate the acts of the original Boston bunch, or that though the acts are different, the complaint is the same: taxation without representation. However, both of these claims are not only false, but laughably stupid--which tells us quite a bit, unfortunately, about the mind that conceived them.

The original Boston Tea Party, if memory serves, involved American colonists painting themselves up like Injuns, boarding a ship in harbor loaded with tea, and then dumping said tea into the water. I don't recall hearing of any similar exploits undertaken by modern TP'ers...and of course that's because there've been none. There is no actual parallel between the bold, aggressive protests of Colonial America and the tepid, mother-may-I protests we see today. But there is also no evidence that any modern TP'er actually imagines he or she is pushing tea over the side of a ship when he or she is really only marching back and forth on a sidewalk carrying a placard. Thus, any claim that modern TP'ers are trying to imitate the acts of the Colonial TP'ers is a claim based on nothing but the abject ignorance and/or dishonesty of the claimant.

Similarly, any claim that modern TP'ers think they have no representation in Congress must be supported by some evidence, and I have seen exactly none. It would be the dull American indeed who was unaware that he or she lived in a district represented by a person elected from that district. Hence, again, you are either a liar or a fool. Or both. Frankly, I'll put my money on the "both."

So consider this part at least of your ramble refuted. I've decided to stop here, as I'm not really clear what your overriding point is, which makes it difficult to address. It seems to be something along the lines of: pro-illegal-immigration protests are impressive because they involve lots of trained monkeys, while TP protests are small and non-threatening. If that's what you're saying, I return again to this question: what the heck is your point? Do you even have one?

MOS was 71331| 5.2.10 @ 8:47AM

Tina Fey must be ecstatic! PG is one more person who believes Sarah Palin actually said what only TF, her SNL impersonator, said on the show. Alaska Governor Palin may have said you can see Russia from parts of Alaska, and anyone on Shemya (where there is a USAF base with a weather station and radars) can see Russian territory from the island. PG exposes his own ignorance when he writes of Gov Palin's ignorance.

Eric Cartman| 5.2.10 @ 2:25PM

Hey MOS,

I flew out of Eielson to Shimya back in the day with the 24th SRS - Cobra Ball/Cobra Dane. For all the Liberal aholes, the Soviets (that's the Russians for aholes like PG) shot down Flight 007 thinking it was us. We were the squadron that made the tape of the shoot down played at the UN back in 83. The Alaska Governor always played a part with intel gathering back then. Don't think things have changed much. So all the poser, limp-dick people like purpleguy can squeak all they want, but Palin probably had more foreign policy experience through these contacts than Barry the Commie had in all his thug days in Chicago fixing deals for his homies. Scumbag!

Purpleguy| 5.2.10 @ 10:38PM

As if you knew something I did not... It's called sarcasm, Moshpit. Glad to hear though that she probably could see Russia from her house, although what she did say (I paraphrase) was that her foreign policy credentials included watching Vladimir Putin's plane fly over Alaska, where they kept there eye on him. If YOU think that's better, go with it. The woman's an airhead with a bumper sticker mind. Please, please, please let her run against President Obama - Please!

Purpleturd,

If all of those folks you mentioned are so irrelevant or inconsequential, why do you continue to obsess over them? And why does the lamestream media continue to attack them and try to redefine them? What? You didn't see the continued news coverage of the Swat/goon team come out to confront the Tea Party grandmothers in Quincy, Illinois? Nice ploy. It didn't work, though, did it? FEAR, UNMITIGATED FEAR AND DREAD BECAUSE AN EVER INCREASING NUMBER OF AMERICANS IDENTIFY WITH THE TEA PARTY. You know what else? You and those on your side know full well that all of those republicans who sat out the last election, not to mention a majority of independents are chomping at the bit to come out and vote against the One's leftist agenda and his radical congressional cronies. And there's not a thing you can do about it, other than continue to submit your boring, nonsensical screeds. So knock yourself out! The more you do it, the more energized we become. Don't forget: 11/02/2010

Purpleguy| 5.2.10 @ 10:40PM

I'm sure she doesn't get a "rise" out of you, Twinkletoes.

Appleby| 5.3.10 @ 9:55AM

Likely hes got his eye on her husband.

Lorianne| 5.1.10 @ 3:06PM

First of all Palin is not the leader of the Tea Party (there is no leader). Secondly, she has been adamant about remaining a Republican and loyal to the Republican party.

She was invited to speak at several Tea Party rallies and she has praised the Tea Party, but both she and they have kept a certain distance between themselves.

And this is how it should be.

It's obvious you don't get it regarding the Tea Partiers. THEY are changing politicians and would-be politicians ... not the other way around.

Margie| 5.1.10 @ 5:21PM

Hey Lorainne,
You're absolutely right! Here are her own words~

"In front of a crowd of Republican Party activists and the tea-party movement’s rank and file here on Tuesday night, former Alaska governor Sarah Palin seemed to put a damper on speculation that she might consider running for president in 2012 as a third-party candidate.

Asked what her advice would be to conservatives as the November elections approach, Palin first lavished praise on the Tea Party movement, calling it "a grand movement" and adding, "I love it because it’s all about the people."

But she quickly pivoted to the broader question of whether the Tea Party movement might successfully field its own candidates in national elections, and on that point she sounded far from convinced.

"Now the smart thing will be for independents who are such a part of this Tea Party movement to, I guess, kind of start picking a party," Palin said. "Which party reflects how that smaller, smarter government steps to be taken? Which party will best fit you? And then because the Tea Party movement is not a party, and we have a two-party system, they’re going to have to pick a party and run one or the other: ‘R’ or ‘D’."

Palin said that the Republican platform best meshed with the Tea Party’s creed. However, she mentioned that her husband Todd was not a registered Republican and that the party should be open to embracing independents."

Margie| 5.1.10 @ 5:26PM

The above was taken from CBS online article of Feb. 17, 2010 at a Tea Party in Arkansas. Though the opening paragraph states Sarah;s "putting a damper on speculation of her running for President", she did later say that if it were best for the country and for the Palin family, she would definitely do it.
Go Sarah!

Purpleguy| 5.1.10 @ 9:16PM

Sarah "I can see Russia from my house" Palin is an opportunist. That's why she QUIT the Governorship of Alaska. She's raking in millions off your fears and prejudices. She's not interested in another office, she's a quitter. She quit to be a mercenary and make as many bucks as she can. I don't begrudge her making money, but for y'all to be so enamored of her, you need to see the sheep in wolf's clothing. She's a flash in the pan, no one will ever elect a QUITTER to anything. She goes back on her commitments, and she knows nothing but bumper sticker politics.

Margie| 5.1.10 @ 10:22PM

Purpleguy| 5.2.10 @ 10:26PM

Can YOU explain why Sarah "I can see Russia from my house" Palin quit the governorship of Alaska? She wrote a book, went on the book tour, raked in $100,000 a speech, made $12,000,000 off y'all, and you don't call that an opportunist? Can YOU explain why she quit? Any other takers? I didn't think so.

JmsA| 5.2.10 @ 11:35PM

Because she lives in a free country and exercised her right to do as she pleases, and in doing so, she freed herself to take on morons like you, instead of just being a sitting target for frivolous lawsuits and the like. Besides, her hand-picked successor as Governor of Alaska is carrying on her conservative, pro-American, pro-Alaska agenda. So no real harm was done to her former constituents. Besides what's wrong with making money? She's now free to do what she does best: exposing the farce that is the One, and the radicalized anti-American agenda of the democrat party, while securing her future as well as that of her family. And there ain't a thing you can do about it, other than, of course, bitch, moan, and complain, which you're so good at. Grow up and stop stinking up the joint. 11/02/2010

SoCon| 5.2.10 @ 11:35PM

Sarah Palin is an honest, law abiding Christian woman, just the kind we'd love to have in any office of government, including the Presidency, if she should choose to run.

Purpleguy| 5.2.10 @ 10:31PM

I see, so she's a weak guttersnipe who shies away from a fight? That's what she told YOU. How ridiculous - by leaving the Governorship, she lost the Alaska State Office of Legal Counsel to help her defend herself. And, so she gave up the Governorship - The Governorship - because of a few lawsuits ... Waaa, waaa - yep, that's somebody you should adore and follow. The woman's a brainless bimbo that struck it lucky and is cashing in for all it's worth. Without Grandpa McCain, we would never have heard of this tramp. Send her back to Wassila.

Tell 'em God bless 'em at the same time.
http://oathkeepers.org/oath/

I hope each of you will spend some time there as well.

Purpleguy| 5.1.10 @ 9:31PM

As a proud former service member of the Air Force, this is outrageous. "Oath Keepers is a non-partisan association of currently serving military, reserves, National Guard, veterans, Peace Officers, and Fire Fighters who will fulfill the Oath we swore, with the support of like minded citizens who take an Oath to stand with us, to support and defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic, so help us God. Our Oath is to the Constitution." As a veteran, the entire idea of military men and women not upholding their honor to server THE COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF is disgusting and anyone of these active duty service that disobey an order can be charged with treason in time of war, punishable by death. If you're all so fired up to serve the Constitution, then you must obey Article II, which clearly states the President is the head of state and Commander-in-Chief, and you must obey, period. It doesn't matter if you voted for him, or if he's white, black or purple - he is the boss! This OathKeepers is a disgusting bunch of treasonous traitors that will be dealt with as necessary. And, anyone that aids or abets them in a time of war, is guilty of the same treasonous behavior. Remember, with the Patriot Act and the Warrantless Wiretapping program, y'all are being watched and catalogued. Think about THAT, the next time you contemplate treason.

Doesn't the UCMJ say something about ILLEGAL orders?

My military friends here will be able to answer this exactly.

Purpleguy| 5.1.10 @ 11:34PM

Yep, " Obey the order of the President of the United States" - and your point is? You made my point with the oath. In the Uniform Code of Military Justice you will find the penalty for insubordination and disobeying an order ... in particular agregious in time of war.

All you've got is the stinkin' garbage in ACORN like Big Bertha "Bowel Movement" Lewis and the SEIU. We've got the heroes, you've got the trash. Together you're a perfect fit.

I couldn't possibly hurt my country anymore than you filthy leftist liars and cheats who are trying to destroy it.
I heard your hero's not doing too well--been caught cheating on the little woman, Michelle and fiddling for two weeks while the Gulf of Mexico strangled in oil. Obama's got his Katrina now; his approvals are going to drop another 20 points.

If you support the Constitution, then you must obey the President, if you are in the Armed Forces, period, end of story. Anything less is treason, now that we are at war. Go read Article II of the Constitution, it isn't very long, but it clearly describes the power of the President. I assume y'all can read?

Saying you're sorry for your lieing existence is no excuss for punishing everyone else for your apparent moral bankrupt mind.
What does it say for a person, or a political party, that they have to continuely lie about their intentions? The means justify the ends right-wrong. In the end they will have to justify their evilness (lies) and be prepared to suffer ( the torture of hearing their continuous lies) the same for those lies. And I'm called the crazy one.

Otis, my man!| 4.30.10 @ 7:06AM

We need to start calling the lefties - "Tories."

Lullaby's, Legends and Lies| 4.30.10 @ 7:57AM

Actually, that's kind of an insult to the Tories, at least they had loyalty!!

Otis, my man!| 4.30.10 @ 1:51PM

You're right. It's too good for them. Besides, they aren't smart enough to get the analogy anyway...

Lullaby's, Legends and Lies| 4.30.10 @ 6:02PM

You're right about that Otis, they'd have to have an interest in, and respect for American history to understand the reference. But they don't on both counts!! They just like to cry about how bad America is, and American history is, while comparing it to what?

Ignorance to truth is the Liberal's constant companion!! And rewriting American history, is their favorite pastime!!

Purpleguy| 5.1.10 @ 9:35PM

The Tories were the Conservatives in Colonial Days. They lost, just as most Conservative movements lose, because their ideas are bankrupt and don't move the country forward, but, instead try to maintain the status quo. And, thus, has the Reagan revolution died. The last wimper are the TeaParty, and they will be next.

Lullaby's, Legends and Lies| 5.1.10 @ 10:16PM

You're funny Purp!!! Did you write the jokes for the President for tonight's correspondents dinner? The Tea Party will be next? I get it!! That's funny!!

Purpleguy| 5.1.10 @ 11:46PM

I see, then silence is acceptance of my assertions. A movement that can't turn out more than 2500 at a time is hardly a movement, now is it? Take a look at the 100,000+ rallies all around that country this weekend protesting the unconstitutional Arizona immigration law. Now that's a movement. Tea party fits in a teacup. I guess you cannot counter the argument. Well, that's okay, now go scribble on the bathroom wall with your in depth humor.

SoCon| 5.2.10 @ 12:10AM

More BS from troll central--the immigration rally was a bust in Los Angeles; it was only one-tenth the size of the turnout in 2006. Choke on that little burrito, Lib Screeder!

BTW, Arizona's immigration law is a mirror image of federal immigration law--how can it be unconstitutional, moron? The only difference is that they're actually going to ENFORCE the state law. Imagine that; someone's going to uphold the rule of law! Hooray!!

Purpleguy| 5.2.10 @ 10:15PM

I couldn't care less about the Arizona law and the demonstrations, except that it beat the Tea Party crowd any day. The point was the Tea Party is a tiny little far right wing nut jobs that won't amount to a hill of beans. It's a movement without a cause, and you know it.

Purp, do you have a camera in my bathroom or what? How the hell did you know I scribble on the wall? I've been keeping that on the lowdown for awhile now!! Oh yeah, and Purp, that was another good joke there, about the "Tea Party" fitting into a teacup!! I get it, tea-bags go into a teacup, to make tea!! You're a laugh a minute!!

Now about the 2,500 silly Teabaggers at the D.C. rally last year? Yeah, we've been trying to inflate that number since then, to get better press and all, but you know better don't you? You should really change your name to Razor instead of Purp, because you are a sharp one!! PurpleRazor?

Funny, out here in L.A. only 50,000 demonstrators showed up, though the police estimated there would have been at least 100,000. I heard that in Houston only three showed up, and one of them was late. Those illegals/pot smugglers in southern Arizona couldn't have chosen a worse time to shoot the cop, who thankfully was not seriously injured. That certainly took the air out of their balloon, didn't it? Did you hear? No more hateful, racist, separatist ethnic education in Arizona schools. What are we to do? Are you wringing your little hands yet? What was it that the One, your idol, said about immigration reform? Oh, yeah, that's right: it ain't happening this year. Oops!, another broken promise, just one of many. What to do, what to do? Purpleturd, just go on ranting, you're affirming the obvious: you're afraid, and it shows. You're not changing any minds. On the contrary, everyone is seeing you for what you are, an ignorant, spiteful little troll in need of attention. I told before, and I tell you again, your rants won't help. Eric(OfConservativeMind)| 5.2.10 @ 3:29AM

Your assertions are flawed, because generally conservatives resemble the Whigs more in ideology today than the Tories. Many of us study and embody the classical liberalism that made thinkers like Tocqueville so admirable.

You are correct, however, that "conservatives" throughout history have tried and failed to maintain the "status quo." Many of us are fighting against the "status quo" of today, because the status quo is Statism. Government has grown far overmuch, and defending the status quo today is not admirable or advisable for the conservative. Our goal is to push back the tide of Statism, and uproot the liberal progressive statist movement.

You progressive statists have been going at this for the better part of a century, and the realities of your statism are coming to a head. The federal government is a parasite, and it feeds off the wealth of our nation. Its benefits are far outweighed by its debilitating size and cost. Tell me, how are the promises of your predecessors holding up? SS and Medicare have become so very bankrupt, and all the while consume more and more funds. They are in need of dire reform, and preferably the kind that phases them out over time.

You assume that conservatism is dead. But it will not die, not until those who see the truth of your bankrupt Statism are dead and replaced by generations of drones. We will not stand by and watch this happen, and will continue to fight against the continued growth of the federal government. It is time to topple this Behemoth, and the spoils shall return to the people; As it was intended to be.

Pro Liberate!
~Semper Fidelis!
Conservatism(classical liberalism) in the face of the Statist shall win true, and free itself from bondage!

BTW: I had a big laugh when 'bama said he taught the Constitution 10 years (perhaps he meant 'case law' on decisions made by the liberal court), and that loves and believes in the Constitution.
That was funny.

SoCon| 5.2.10 @ 11:39PM

When did BozObama say that? Even that poser couldn't have the nerve to tell that whopper!

Purpleguy| 5.4.10 @ 9:46PM

Well, now, Classical Liberalism - so y'all prescribe to this : "Central to classical liberalism was a view of human nature as selfish, calculating, idle and atomistic. Being selfish, people were motivated solely by pain and pleasure. Being calculating, they made decisions intended to maximize pleasure and minimize pain. If there were no opportunity to increase pleasure or reduce pain, they would become idle. Therefore the only motivation for labor was either the possibility of great reward or fear of hunger. This belief led them to pass the Poor Law Amendment Act 1834 which limited the provision of social assistance. On the other hand they thought that men of higher ranks were motivated by ambition. Seeing society as atomistic, it was no more than the sum of its individual members. These views departed from earlier views of society as a family and therefore greater than the sum of its members."

"But as America grew, industry became a larger and larger part of American life, and during the term of America's first populist president, Andrew Jackson, economic questions came to the forefront. The economic ideas of the Jacksonian era were almost universally the ideas of classical liberalism. Freedom was maximized when the government took a "hands off" attitude toward industrial development and supported the value of the currency by freely exchanging paper money for gold. The ideas of classical liberalism remained essentially unchallenged until a series of depressions, thought to be impossible according to the tenets of classical economics, led to economic hardship from which the voters demanded relief. In the words of William Jennings Bryan, "You shall not crucify the American farmer on a cross of gold." Despite the common recurrence of depressions, classical liberalism remained the orthodox belief American businessmen until the Great Depression.[24] The Great Depression saw a sea change in liberalism, leading to the development of modern liberalism. In the words of Arthur Schlesinger Jr.:

when the growing complexity of industrial conditions required increasing government intervention in order to assure more equal opportunities, the liberal tradition, faithful to the goal rather than to the dogma, altered its view of the state," and "there emerged the conception of a social welfare state, in which the national government had the express obligation to maintain high levels of employment in the economy, to supervise standards of life and labor, to regulate the methods of business competition, and to establish comprehensive patterns of social security."

What a wonderful view of your world! Back to the 1800's ...! You people are insane. Do you know where you live? Do you know what century you're in? Sad, very sad.

Eric(OfConservativeMind)| 4.30.10 @ 7:37AM

It is difficult to reconcile the progressive liberal of today with the classical liberalism of de Tocqueville and other liberals of his time. They(the progressive Statist liberals) are progressive, for the virtue of being progressive. They are not liberal in thought, for they are not skeptical of the State and its consistently growing appendages and organs. They support it at every turn, and the Social Justice which seeks to enforce equality of outcome as well.

They will feign alarm at the Statists or Neo-Statists that come their way from the Republican party, but they are indeed happy when the Neo-Statist is paving the way. Not as happy as they are under a Statist, mind you, but the Statist agenda gets fulfilled time after time, election after election. Bush's policy of the "Unilateral Executive" seems to suit Obama just fine. The Left cried about it during Bush's presidency, but their savior is now in control. The Left won't bother with any ado about Barack's Statism, because it fits with their progressive mindset. He is their Messiah.

What is currently wracking their minds(the progressive Statists) is the fact that we fail to adhere to their standards and accept that their communitarianism trumps our capitalist limited-government mindset. We are cast as the moral degenerates, because we don't want to cast off our individuality to become another number, a statistic, to be counted among the many, the masses. We are indignant, backwards, closed off from reality, because we refuse to participate in creating a world where there is a massive gap between the government dependent poor and the ruling elite that seeks to establish a Globalism, or a one world culture. We must foist off just a little more of our liberty, so that the government will make us secure... Just a little more of our income, so that we can provide for the children... Just a little more, so we can provide for the seniors...

Never mind the fact that centralized government is so inefficient at delivering these ends. Government doesn't create jobs, save for the inherent need for more regulation and taxation so that its bureaucracy may grow. Overcompensated bureaucrats labor daily to effect more complex regulations to contrive and pervert the economic functions of Capitalism, and thus deprive more and more people of jobs because the markets just keep taking greater and greater hits from the public sector.

The die is cast, and we have another shot at not only constraining the growth of government, but rolling it back. May God bless our cause, for we daily seek his guidance in prayer. To a righteous reversal, and the re-institution of self reliance and liberty.

For if we fail, we may be doomed to a totalitarian state.

Semper Fi.

When Clinton found his back against the wall with the people rising up to reject his Marxist efforts, he went violent and bloody against the "racists" and "extremists" who would not get in line. To serve himself, he named his political enemies "terrorists." This was followed by reaction to Reno's mass murder in Waco - the Oklahoma bombing; which was followed by 9/11.

Obama is heading down the same path. He has redefined "terrroists" to be his political enemies and Homeland Security has been ordered to shift their attention onto Obama's political enemies. He sent black boot riot police to harrass the tea party protest in Illonis. What a sight! Old men and women singing "God Bless America" - white racists and extremists to Dear Leader - being harassed by a regiment of militarized cops in black boots.

Obama is trying to set the fire like Clinton did. In the meantime, who is watching the real terrorists who are preparing for the next 9/11? He is working to set off a racial conflict by racializing every conflict in the country in the style of his Rev. Wright: whitey against minorities.

Yes, I agree. As it has been pointed out, there is simply a lack of politicians who will embody the whole of the conservative ideal. Those who embody it even in part are preferable to those who do not embody such at all(Dems, and politicians like McCain).

We must be watchful, be vigilant, but don't throw the baby out with the bath water on this one. Other than that slip-up, Rubio is our best chance to elect a Senator from Florida who best represents us in this case. We sure as hell know Crist wouldn't be the ideal candidate.

If you give a progressive-liberal-leftist-communist-socialist the benefit of the doubt, he/she will roll it up very tight and try to beat you to death with it.

ACynic| 4.30.10 @ 9:43AM

The left is motivated by power and hatred of the common folk. Leftists believe they are smarter, more sophisticated than others. They are intolerant and believe they MUST control others to conform to their world view.
Note that most leftist leaders are millionaires. Note that when leftists have taken over countries (Cuba, Russian, N. Korea, Poland, etc), the ruling elites live like royalty, enjoying all the rights benefits of royalty. At the same time they deny even the opportunity to the average person to seek these rights and opportunities.
Why ? because leftists HATE , ABHORE and hold in total contempt the average person. Leftists believe , as did Medieval Royalty, that common folks are put on earth to be serfs and slaves to work for the benefit of royalty.
Black or white, leftists are power hungry, typically very wealthy, arrogant, elitist, hate-filled thugs who really need to be eliminated; eliminated in the same manner as rats and cockroaches.

Matt Morehouse| 4.30.10 @ 9:43AM

The Tea Partiers are doing a wonderful job and I hope they keep going. I also hope and pray they do not morph into an official third party and run candidates.
That would destroy all their good works.

DukeD | 4.30.10 @ 12:16PM

Here Here Matt. I agree totally. If the Tea Party runs candidates they play right into the leftist agenda. Which is, of course, to maintain their stranglehold on power.

Rmm| 4.30.10 @ 9:56AM

It is time to grab your wallet and run, because here comes the Nanny state. Whatever label you put on the Washington 'fat-cats', they want to badmouth any who doesn't have a ring in their nose, to be led around by. The line in the sand has been clearly drawn, and the transformation crowd can go 'pack sand'.

So we are a "bowel movement."
To paraphrase the bile from the ACORNasphere;
Bertha knows that her government bennies come from Our earnings plundered by Her President. And how dare WE refuse to willingly be overtaxed, that she can collect what she believes We owe her. So she yells "racist". Nobody cares what she or the rest of her organization look like.
They are just a bunch of babies. And it's long past time that they got weened.

davelnaf| 4.30.10 @ 10:32AM

Progressives view much of the conservative reaction to their current statist agenda as the death rattle of reactionary forces. But let a genuine grassroots movement like the Tea Party sprout up and they predictably start spinning out of control. As the author says, the left is indeed very simplistic.

pugsley| 4.30.10 @ 2:01PM

Could it be they remember the French Revolution? I for one am in full favor of ropes and lamp posts myself. The French slice and dice method is a bit too quick for my taste. The issue that most progressive/liberal commentators and citizens have with the Tea Party people comes down to a lack of credibility. Simply put, the Tea Party folks (who seem to be the ones trafficking in "rage") stated aims are at marked odds with reality.

Take the issue of taxes: The fact of the matter is that most Tea Party people saw their Federal incomes taxes cut by the Obama administration. So, point one is, at best, a canard.

Secondly their claims that their "liberty" is being taken away seem somewhat baseless. Name one single bill, policy, or proposal of the Obama administration that in any way impinges upon citizen's constitutional rights? (Answer: Not one.) More frustrating, at least for liberals, is the fact that the Tea Party people seemed to stay remarkably silent throughout the Bush administration's warrantless wiretapping, imprisonment-without-trial, "national security" power-grab. More recently, the Arizona immigration law - which really does seem to promote the sort of "show us your papers!" police state - appears to have drawn not a peep from these supposed "liberty-loving" protestors.

Thirdly, Tea Party protests about deficits and debt seem - at best - to be remarkably naive about the fundamentals of Government economics: Even with Federal fiscal stimulus (the necessity of which one can reasonably debate) - the fact is that in time of economic contraction like we saw starting in mid 2008 - automatically increases Government spending (for things like Unemployment insurance) - while at the same time reducing receipts (more people unemployed equals less taxes collected.) Concern about deficits is one thing: Blindly blaming it all on one guy who took office in the middle of the worst recession in half a century - is quite another. Tea Partiers would get more respect from the "elite liberal media" if their economics made a little more sense.

Lastly, one cannot help but view the Tea Party protests without, at least in part, suspecting them of being a creation of the Right-Wing Nosie Machine. From Fox News constant promotion of Tea Party events - to Michelle Malkin's laughable (1000%) inflation of Tea Party event participation - one wonders how much traction this movement would have gotten if it weren't for the daily pimping it gets on Fox News. (You know you've got a problem when even Fox News has to yank Sean Hannity from appearing at an event. Even Roger Ailes realizes that you can only stretch journalistic ethics so far..)

Strip out the bogus complaints about taxes, deficits, and liberty - and what are you left with?

Answer: A largely white, middle-aged, middle-class (and not the upper-income overachievers they think they are) group that finds itself frightened by an America (and larger economic world) that is becoming more diverse and vibrant.

NavyBrat | 4.30.10 @ 10:52AM

You're full of crap. Besides the miniscule reduction in payroll taxes, what other taxes did he cut? NONE! His health plan will raise taxes, he's planning on introducing energy taxes, he's letting the Bush tax cuts expire, which will make everyone's taxes will go up. Go spout your verbal tripe & tired assed talking points elsewhere. Only bong water drinkers like you believe the BS they're saying.

Drew| 4.30.10 @ 11:33AM

Let's recap, shall we:

Obama tax cuts also included a $8000 credit for first-time homebuyers. (Ask a realtor if this hasn't helped bring the housing market back from the brink.)

The Small Business Health Care Tax Credit can cover up to 35% of the premiums a small business pays to cover its workers.

Up to $2500 tax credit for college expenses thanks to the American Opportunity Credit .

Up to $1500 credit for installing energy-efficient windows and doors, etc.

Millions of Americans saw the first $2400 in Unemployment Insurance payments free of tax.

And millions of Americans got up to $2500 for participating in the (extremely succesful) "Cash for Clunkers" program.

If you want to be taken seriously, please explain how President Bush's tax cuts - which went almost exclusively to Americans earning over $250,000, and helped grow the deficit by over a trillion dollars are "good" - while cutting taxes for the 98% of Americans who make less than that are "bad."

Or better yet, explain how cutting taxes for 98% of working Americans is evidence of how much Obama "hates the middle class" - another frequent lie propagated by the "adults" on this blog.

Doorgunner| 4.30.10 @ 11:43AM

Ahem, excuse me, but your 11:33 post refutes your 10;36 post, genius. And your last two paragraphs are a bare-faced lie.

Drew| 4.30.10 @ 12:10PM

At 10:36 I asserted (among other things) that Obama had reduced taxes for most Americans. At 11:33 I gave specific examples of how he had done so.

Do us all the courtesy of explaining how this is a contradiction. Or just shut up.

NavyBrat | 4.30.10 @ 12:13PM

Again, little boy. A tax CREDIT is NOT the same thing as a tax CUT! Maybe you should take your own advice & just shut your stinking pie hole. Come back when you've graduated 4th grade.

Drew| 4.30.10 @ 12:36PM

That is a distinction without actually being a difference.

Fact: Tea Partiers are whining about Taxes. Fact: Obama's policies reduced their taxes - significantly, in some cases - at least during the time they were doing their quasi-racist, pathetic bleating.

I'll be honest, and tell you flat out that your abusive, fact-free style of debate is disappointing. And certainly neither impressive or persuasive.

NavyBrat | 4.30.10 @ 12:45PM

"I'll be honest, and tell you flat out that your abusive, fact-free style of debate is disappointing. And certainly neither impressive or persuasive."

Again, I'm being lectured on how to debate by a chump who's readilly admitted that he doens't read the links that anyone else posts. Drew, if shat were brains, you'd be Einstein.

PS. No matter how much you claim otherwise, there's a HUGE difference b/w a one time tax credit & a tax cut. No use explaining this to a willfully ignorant person. It's obviously WAAAY above your head. Maybe when you grow up, you'll understand.

mdk | 5.1.10 @ 2:30PM

Drew, you're full of crap, completely. None of those are "tax cuts", they're tranferring other people's money to subsidize specific spending. If you're trying to save up to buy a home, your money is going to the "qualified" to buy theirs. Sadly, you get no break for saving, you get your money taken from you to try to inflate the real estate bubble and make your future purchase unaffordable. As every other item you mention, NONE of these are tax cuts, they're monetary incentivies for you to spend money you don't have. IE, incentives to go into debt. The entire problem is that we're all too far in debt as it is, and we can't get out of it, because government spends, either by directly taxing, or by controlling via laws, over half of all wealth and income generated. So, get a life, retard. We're not fooled by your faxed talking points. In fact, we're a heck of a lot smarter than you are, seeing as you how you're wiling to post pure nonsense.

Curtis Rasmussen| 4.30.10 @ 11:34AM

Drew is Lib Reader.

Lib Reader has a tendency to end some posts with a racist comment like the one above. Once she claims racism, she has lost.

I do have a personal example of political racial bias. My former manager thought I would vote for Obama based on my black skin color. I then explained my position clearly, that I would never vote for a marxist asshole like Obama, no way-no how. Unfortunately, his mind hit the reset switch several times, defaulting back to the assumption that I was Obama's boy. What triggered the switch? My skin color did.

Hey Liberal Reader, you douchebag, keep your mouth shut when you have no idea what you're talking about.

Curtis Rasmussen| 4.30.10 @ 2:14PM

BTW, my former manager was a flaming liberal who could not understand why I was 'unwilling to help erase centuries of injustice' perpetrated by the white man. Blackness was all that mattered, Obama could have been the self-avowed anti-Christ himself and that idiot would still vote for him.

Liberalism-keeping racism alive well into the 21st century.

Froggie| 4.30.10 @ 12:24PM

Even white, middle -aged, middle-class people have a right to express themselves and associate freely, no?

Eric(OfConservativeMind)| 4.30.10 @ 12:28PM

Take the issue of taxes: The fact of the matter is that most Tea Party people saw their Federal incomes taxes cut by the Obama administration. So, point one is, at best, a canard. -- As was explained in an earlier post, when is a government subsidy paid for by the "rich" a "tax cut?"

-- I didn't (politically mind you) have my head pulled out yet, but I believe there was uproar on more quarters than just the left on Bush's "Uniltateral Executive" style policies. Can you give me one instance where an American citizen was arrested and detained and denied his/her rights? Okthx.

Our "liberty" as a society is being confiscated, largely, at the federal level. We call it redistribution of wealth, you call it egalitarianism. The problem here is, the Federalist system of government has been turned on its head. We live in a society administered top-down. You progressives claim we are a nation of diversity, yet your governance seeks to distribute monies and programs/benefits evenly among the populace. You don't care that this violates the principle of the 9th and 10th Amendments, and you obviously don't care about the middle class jobs you continue to destroy with excessive taxation and regulation of the markets.

On the AZ immigration law. You are a complete idiot. The provisions contained within the law explains that that law is simply codifying FEDERAL level immigration law, slapping State fines into the mix, and getting the job done. The problem with the "show me your papers" mindset is the fact that all Legal immigrants into this country have to carry their documentation with them anyway. So do regular citizens. Do you ever go driving without your drivers license? I pray you don't, but that would be your mistake. The AZ laws strictly prohibit profiling and stopping people on the street for no other reason than determining the legality of their presence in the U.S. Officers have to initiate a lawful contact beforehand. If you're caught loitering, and you're an illegal alien, you screwed up. This law also reinforces federal provisions that require AZ law enforcement to call in any suspected illegals to federal agencies like ICE to presumably verify whether or not they are legal. This law protects the civil rights of the AZ populace, and it only seeks to set things right.

On your government economics argument. Yes. I agree. The argument for lower taxes, lower deficit sure does come at an inopportune time for the Tea Party. Especially when government spending won't decrease under this administration. Too bad taxes and regulation of the markets would both have to be decreased in order to generate more federal revenue. The argument that higher taxes always == higher revenue is nonsensical, because when you tax production past a certain point, the business in question is no longer able to produce the sustained amount of capital gains to produce jobs and new enterprise.

On the Tea Party being anything other than grassroots, I can see why you might have your view, especially with your progressive slant on thinking. The problem is the relative professionalism of the average Tea Party member. Many of them are voters that turned out for the first time in many years during this last election, and they are unhappy with the results. Of course, many of them are middle class, yada yada yada. You progressives spend so much time on the demographics of other groups it astounds me. You can bet most of the people at those rallies aren't quite as fixated on race as the MSM would like us to think.

Americans in general aren't afraid of a larger economic world. In fact, our government is so predatory via taxes/regulations that companies have gone elsewhere so they could actually produce capital, taking jobs with them. How's that Statism working for you?

ds80| 4.30.10 @ 12:43PM

In the words of Vinny Gambini:

"Everything [Drew] just said is bullsh*t".

Skinner| 4.30.10 @ 12:48PM

Well Drew, your cut and paste skills remain exceptional.

First of all, payroll withholding may have decreased, but the tax rates remain unchanged. Simply put, if you receive a refund, and made the same salary, it will be less than last year. So, Uncle Sam still gets his interest free loan from you.

Secondly, Obamacare doesn't come to mind? Penalizing/taxing citizens for NOT purchasing something! Please don't bring up auto insurance, it's apples and oranges. You only have to have liability coverage for the privilege of driving. Now we have to pay-to-breathe. To beat it all, you’re going to get hit up for four years before anyone sees the so-called benefits (there are a couple exceptions, but they are very narrow).
The Bush Administration’s warrantless wiretapping? Were you born in a hole yesterday? FISA has been around since the late ‘70’s. Dubya didn’t have anything to do with its inception. Since Carter authorized it in 1977, to it’s enactment in 1978, every president has used it. So, either they’re all “guilty”, or none are. Your supposed argument is a strawman.
Who has been imprisoned without trial? Foreign, non-uniformed terrorists captured fighting against coalition forces? According to your Leftist heroes who use the Geneva Convention to protest so-called prisoner abuse, these people can be summarily executed in the field.
If Arizona’s new immigration law is a “show us your papers!”, then so is the Federal governments immigration law, since it is pretty close to a verbatim duplication. Whoops.

Sorry, using your example of increased spending on unemployment is also a strawman. Those monies were collected from employers through unemployment taxes for that express purpose. See how the description of the tax matches the purpose related to its collection? I knew you could.
I love this one, “Blindly blaming it all on one guy…”. Yes, I know I left out the rest of your statement, don’t get your panties in a bunch, I’ll get back to the second half of it.
Just on the first part, you were born in a hole yesterday weren’t you? Or you slept through 2001-2008.
Every (hyperbole warning) catastrophe in the world was blamed on George W. Bush. Hurricanes, global warming, tsunamis, avalanches, losing on American Idol, the price of coffee, Lindsay Lohan’s failed career and Sherlock Holmes’ drug addictions were blamed on Bush.
For the second part of your statement, Bush deserves the blame for the recession starting in ‘08, if only because he didn’t VETO massive spending bills from the by then democrat controlled legislature! If he didn’t sign a spending bill, he was hateful and stingy, according to leftist democrats (redundancy). If he did sign one, the bill didn’t spend enough.

I won’t comment on the last point, since I don’t watch Fox. I don’t watch any national news programs. From Cutie Couric’s fake compassion, to Bill O’Reilly’s bloviating, it ain’t worth it. I watch/listen to the local news programs for traffic and weather, but that’s it.

Your “bogus complaints” is insulting to people who actually have to work in order to keep a roof over their heads and feed their families.

This is the best though,
“Answer: A largely white, middle-aged, middle-class (and not the upper-income overachievers they think they are) group that finds itself frightened by an America (and larger economic world) that is becoming more diverse and vibrant.” Been to a Tea Party? If not, you’ve just removed all doubt as to your status as a fool. If you have, well, same thing. Or you’re blind.
I’ll go with Zo Rachel. You can keep diversity. We want Unity.

Roy| 5.2.10 @ 4:59PM

I love the raving bigotry of libs equating "diverse" with "vibrant".

How about they go to Kolkata or Shanghai and tell them "You know your problem, you're stagnant because you're not "diverse" enough. We all know that "vibrancy" can be equated with "diversity" and it sure looks like 99.9% of the population here is the same race.."

Arrogant little punks.

NavyVetMichigan| 4.30.10 @ 2:45PM

We can easily resolve most of these problems by eliminating any part of the Federal Government not deriving its powers from those listed in Article 1, Section 8 of the United States Constitution.
We will all have plenty of our own money left,

"Lastly, one cannot help but view the Tea Party protests without, at least in part, suspecting them of being a creation of the Right-Wing Nosie Machine. From Fox News constant promotion of Tea Party events .." I except the fact that news organizations are biased and have a political point of view that they want to promote. The time of un-biased news has been largly abandoned. My evidence is the none investigative or questioning of a candidate that they support. You may not be old enough to recall the "White Papers" on major networks on why a particular candidate lost an election. These "white papers" appeared after a Democrat lost a general election. It is my opinion that they got heat when attending an elite party. Regardles, the news media is no longer the voice of question or public oversight. They are partican. Viewing other pints of view is vital to freedom, the Obama administration along with the MSM to silence opposition is evident in their reluctance to allow questions from "news correspondents" from Fox. I hope the optimism in your article is justified and it is not too late to save American freedom.

Where I think you fell short is one of the problems I see with the conservative fight against the leftist agenda. To fully withstand an assault the enemy must be identified and his intent understood. We must stop being afraid to call "progressives" what they really are, communists.
If not we run the same danger the current administration has put our country in by refusing to identify radical Islam and the terrorists it creates.
Both are evil and we should call them out.

Ken (Old Texican)| 4.30.10 @ 1:38PM

Hey Maddox,

I am ALWAYS the reminder that the communists, (pardon the shorthand), are running the "regime" right now. (grin)

I call them out on almost a daily basis here, guy, but you are absolutely correct.

November, remarkably enough, is the communist's, (pardon the shorthand), very very very last chance to avoid a (political) bloodbath in their ranks.

Too many Americans honestly believe that without a majority in the House of Reps. going Republican restorationist, that our republic cannot survive until 2012.

Please, get every loved one with at least a room temperature IQ to register...then vote...Republican.

'Splain to them that we can work out the details later. Without a Republican House of Reps. Many Americans believe we are toast....forever.

By the way...I haven't heard how things went at the Brandeis "Nazi/Tea Party" forum the other day, but the Sociology Dept. there (heavily involved) has long been connected to the Democratic Socialists of America. From their airies in upper middle class Newton and/or the People's Republic of Cambridge, they have long fought for the workers by going to Paris to consult with the French Communists, that sort of thing. They exist in total elitist lala land, so anything that disrupts their dream is much despised.

Sara| 4.30.10 @ 12:16PM

Socialism can not survive in a democracy without the power to indoctrinate and end free speech. This is why Dear leader is targeting radio, the internet and cable television for centralized control. Watch him try to bail out and centralized his left wing newspapers...all in the name of democracy, ofcourse.

Oldefarte| 4.30.10 @ 12:19PM

Let me refine this editorial. The LEFT/PROGRESSIVES/LIBERALS/SOCIALISTS,etc want to empower the economic/financial indigents, through government's ROB-FROM-THE-RICH [TRANSLATION:ANYONE WITH 'INCOME']-AND-GIVE-TO-THE-POOR mechanisms, so that the former can receive the latter's political votes in return!!!!!!!!!!!

Kylie Estwick| 4.30.10 @ 12:35PM

I read the first 3 paragraphs and stopped.

All I have to do is look at the signs being displayed at a Tea Party gathering to know who the real "haters" are.

When a group of people are not so subtly suggesting the government be overthrown just because they dont agree with someone's politics and/or "pray" for their President's death, I think it's time for everyone to take a big step back from brink and take a deep breath.
Please dont preach to the rest of us about "hate".
Thanks

By your own standards, you should keep your mouth shut.

SoCon| 4.30.10 @ 2:38PM

Oh my! Kylie's got the vapors!

Gee, Kylie, care to share the 'hateful' contents of some of those Tea Party signs that put you into such a convulsive fit? Such tender sensibilities you have!

I wonder if your fragile mind recoiled as much to the vile language and hate you filthy leftists screeched at GWB for eight years. You know, "BUSHITLER and Bush lied, children died!" Or how about the lovely sign showing President Bush with the bloody bullet hole in his forehead?

I could go on and on, ad nauseam, dear Kiley, but your rank hypocrisy is so nauseating I shan't. Just stop preaching to us about civility; you're a joke.
UGH!

Mel Torme| 5.1.10 @ 1:46PM

Kylie, it is the duty of the American people to overthrow the federal government when it grossly violates the constitution that is supposed to bind it and becomes tyrannical.

Maybe you don't think we are at that point yet, and I am not sure myself. I wonder how the Jews in Germany in 1940 felt though, when they thought back about they and the rest of the Germans having the opportunity to overthrow their government, say 5 years earlier. Ever seen the movie "Valkyrie"? It (based on a true story) gives you a real clue on how hard it is to stop the madness once it has started.

Give it 3 years, and see if you have any regrets, Kylie.

ds80| 4.30.10 @ 12:49PM

Kylie, try this on for size: "When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty." T. Jefferson

I suppose the colonists should have just shut up about King George III's "politics", too. Have you ever read the US Constitution? The Declaration of Independence?

Aren't you lucky: Nov 2010, and you'll get to see the Tree of Liberty refreshed.

Augusta| 4.30.10 @ 1:08PM

There are many great conservative, libertarian, and classically liberal thinkers who provide a clear window into the progressive mindset - but marxist motives and methods have never been better and more plainly laid out than by former KGB agent and Soviet defector, Yuri Bezmenov. He reveals the genesis of stealth socialism; the same kind that the Alinskys and ACORNs of the world follow to the letter. He explains how a free nation is undermined through subversion, demoralization & destabilization in painstaking detail. I urge everyone to catch his many lectures on YouTube. If you think Alinsky's garbage was an eye opener - Yuri's revelations will rock your world.

I must apologize like I did in another post, Ken. I was never a corpsman, and have not had the opportunity to join due to my asthma. Had I joined the military, I probably would have served in the USAF following in the boots of my stepfather.

I admire the military and all those men and women who have served us through times great and dark. It is in my reverence for the marines that I use their motto, Semper Fidelis. Forever faithful, to our country and its heroes.

Again, I apologize to any I may have mislead.

God bless.

Hey Eric (of conservative mind)~
I get the sentiment. Sometimes when I see a soldier, any soldier in uniform, I have a strong desire to give them a salute in passing them, but I have heard that a civilian shouldn't do that, so I don't.
Any soldiers here know if that's correct?

Publius| 4.30.10 @ 3:11PM

I disagree to a certain extent with the premise here. To understand why liberals "hate" is to come to understand what the liberal mind disease causal issues in fact become as the disease pathology progresses over time.

The liberal-progressive movement is founded on the premise that if you are an enlightened liberal, you understand that life is to be lived without consequences and that you should always be measured first as to your intentions and only on a secondary or tertiary level with regards to actual, objectively-quantifiable results. Keep this in mind because this is important as you read the rest of my treatise on this matter.

The modern liberal-progressive movement has reached the crucible where viability meets actual results. For 45 years, the liberal-progressive movement has promised minorities the minorities could exchange their vote for prosperity that would be created by virtue of the liberal-progressive social welfare policy system. The reality is that the social welfare programs (health care, food stamps, public housing, welfare and public education) have been a complete failure. Today, minorities are really no better off than they were 45 years ago. Certainly, they have better ACCESS to opportunity, but they live within a protected bubble the liberal-progressive movement has created around them. To live in this bubble is to agree that the consequences of their decisions and actions are not their own fault, but the fault of others - a conspiracy that deprives them of true economic prosperity. Nobody can blame these people for accepting this bargain and living in the bubble, because; who wouldn't like to be exempt from the consequences of their decisions?

The reality has been completely different. We know that as long as you are unwilling to admit to the consequences of your actions, you will continue to experience these consequences until you do admit to them and that is the trap the minorities find themselves in and after 45 years they are tired of it.

Unlike the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s, minorities now have access to information that is not controlled by the liberal media and government. Today, any moron with a computer connection can undertake their own research and find out the truth of these matters. As more and more minorities realize these facts, they defect from the modern liberal-progressive movement and the movement's leaders KNOW THIS IS THE END.

Hatred and its racist cousins all have the same impact for the modern liberal-progressive movement; they are a distraction that changes the subject from what actually happened (where the liberal is dangerously exposed to being "caught in the open" - ala town hall meetings of 2009) to how people FEEL about what is going on - a much more agreeable metric because it is subjective in nature and it defers the moment of accountability for the outcome of one's policies to some distant point inf the future.

This is the reason for the hatred and now you understand why they do it. They have no choice; it's the last card in the deck and if you will play the card with them they have a chance to continue the game. If you laugh and say you understand why they are playing the game and that the real issue is the 45 years of liberal failures have finally come to call, you will defeat the liberal.

Margie| 4.30.10 @ 3:38PM

Excellent explanation of the Liberal/Progressive mindset and its ultimate failure!
I don't know who you are, but I for one SO welcome you to the discourse here!!

what we are fighting is the cult of the prophet hussein

Far too many of these losers on the left fell for the fantasy of hopey change where the meesiah, yeah that's right, it's all about the hussein, where they believed that all they had to do was prostrate themselves berfore their new god and every miracle they ever dreamed of would happen

But a funny thing happened on hios way tro become lord opf the universe. Seems tyhe hussein discovered there aren't enough days for him to give enough speeches where he can hector the country with more talk of imagined crisis where the prophet hussein would spend one day identifying the problem, a second day of proposing the solution and on the third day the miracle would occur

But it seems for all his talk of crisis, all his promises he had the answers, he has offered bno solution and has made the economty wostrt for his meedling and out of control spending.

And still the messiah's robots are singing huzzanahs to their lord and master, the hussein

I am soooooo sick of these people screaming "racism" at everyone who happens to disagree with them. It is soooooo old and soooooo over-used, and only causes eye-rolling and a gag reflex in everyone I know. Those lefties should just retire it and find a new distortion to knee-jerk out.

Tom in Michigan| 4.30.10 @ 5:26PM

I have to disagree with the basic premise of this article. The reason the Left is so angry is the middle class (the bourgeoise) are supposed to lay down and take it like the Kulaks in the Soviet Union (or Chinese merchants or Cambodian rice farmers). However, the members of the nascent Conservative revolt realize, whether they can exactly vocalize it or express it that the Left’s intention is to reduce them to the level of the proletariat through redistribution of wealth. I mean; Obama TOLD us this is what they intended and, I believe we can take him at his word; at least on that count.

But, instead of taking it lying down; they’re fighting back. The Left’s frustration is palpable in the puerile and spittle - drenched sexual (“teabagger” – I looked this up because I actuallly did not know what it meant. The definition seems to indicate this would be a more popular pastime for say, Barney Frank or John Edwards and Rielle Hunter than the average middle class tax protester) and scatalogical (“bowel movement”) insults. If the typical and historical Leftist takeover strategy could be employed, they would merely incarcerate (Hitler’s and Stalin’s concentration camps and gulag respectively) or suppress their opponents violently.

Of course, the problem is; despite their best efforts to date, the Left has singularly failed to overturn the 2nd Amendment so, their opponents may have not only the motivation to fight back but also still retain the Constitutionally – guaranteed last defence against tyranny denied the poor victims of the Left I mentioned above. The Left therefore, cowards that they are have heretofore refrained from their tried – and – true methods of violent repression. However, this little impediment can be circumvented if they can JUST get some of the Tea Parties to turn violent in which case they can invoke the tyrant’s creed of “necessity” and suppress the resistance through violent means under the aegis of “marshall law” or “law and order” (Yes. They would co-opt this term, if it served their purposes). If that fails, then they will simply infiltrate the movement and lauch the requisite violence as agents provacateur

Hence the recent attempts by Bill Clinton and others to incite violence by risibly asserting this completely non-violent movement is actually violent (so far though, the Tea Party folks haven’t beaten up any black men in wheel chairs or bitten off any fingers nor have they advocated violence in say, the manner of former terrorist and Obama pal, Bill Ayers).

Of course they see themselves as the Elite. How else to explain the relentless, never - ending lecturing of their putative leader and his query regarding why we just can’t seem to understand what’s good for us (Check out, but don’t buy Thomas Frank’s “What’s the Matter with Kansas” for further insights into this revealing behavior)? Their goal is a two – class system, one class comprised of the Elites in the political class, Hollywood, the Academy and certain favored corporations such as GE (to presume the Left is not in bed with these corporations is the height of blindness. They are favored until the dare to revolt in any way as we recently saw in the case of Warren Buffett) and a second class comprised of the rest of us who are to be made wholly dependent upon the Elites for food, shelter and indeed, health care.

The middle class simply stands in the way of this lurid dream and therefore, must be diminished.

That’s what’s got them so unset, Brother.

Northern Rebel| 4.30.10 @ 5:41PM

I had so much fun watching Drew get his head handed to him, I didn't bother replying. Eric was doing a fine job without my help.

What I did want to comment on, is the "98% of Americans got a tax cut", and "Bush's tax cuts went to the wealthy" comments.

Nobody has escaped the rising cost of government, especially the poor. Here in northern NY, gas edged up over $3 a gallon, fees on everything from driver's licences, to building permits have doubled; sin taxes have gone up on booze, beer, cigarettes, etc.

I used to buy a 10lb bag of chicken for $3.70 at the grocery. Now it's $5.70.

The state police have become traffic nazi's, ordered to ticket people for 2 miles over the speed limit, so desperate is the state for "revenue".

Bush's tax cut put $2500 extra in my pocket, until I got Chairman Maobama's tax cut: unemployment!

Now thanks to "President" Anti-Christ, I pay no taxes at all! Thanks, Oh Imperial one!

This madministration has funneled so much money out of the private sector, that there is little chance a 52 year old man is going to find a job at 1/3 the pay I used to make.

People like myself never made a killing in the free market, but were able to feed our families, and put some away for the kid's college.

We worked our balls off to do it, getting up before the sun, and getting home after dark.

There are many of us that have seen a lifetime of work destroyed in an incredibly short period of time. More than 35 years of work, and we have nothing to show for it! I am broker than I was at age eighteen!

And this smarmy worm that calls himself Drew, or liberal reader, or whatever the fuck his name is today, wants to tell me all about the benefits of having this America hating, racist, limp wristed, nose in the air, never-had-a-real-job MOTHERFUCKER in MY WHITE HOUSE, and how it is so good for me!

Sorry Drew, I'm not in the mood to intellectually engage you today, I'm ready to TEAR YOUR HEAD OFF!

You are the epitome of what is wrong with America, and the sooner we have OUR bowel movement, the sooner you and yours will swirl down to the depths of sewage where you belong, you uncircumsized, festering, diseased, leaking, prig!

They think the same way about the entire Country too, we were the top Dog for a long time, now it's some other Country's chance to take the reins. Oh, yeah. Here's my version of the Obama tax cut. For the first time in family history there are three unemployed members of my family. All of them lost their jobs after Obama was inaugurated. My wife is unemployed for the first time in 40 years.

I'm still working but, I just had a job offer as an adjunct professor rescinded. It's a private school so there's no "Obama money" (as we say in Detroit) and, enrollments are down since the One's inauguration.

There's good news though. My nephew just got a job as Union Representative ($60k, "company" car; the works). I'm happy for him but the three others in my family are all college graduates who have worked steadily until this Administration. So, yeah we pass less taxes as a family so, we'll call it the "Obama tax cut."

Thanks, Mr. President (well, he SAID we should thank him. I'm just trying to cooperate).

This snarky back and forth in the comments section is really amateur hour. I'd think that
commentors would write a little more like grown ups.
As for the article:
Isn't this what liberals do?
Create the world according to their fears and imaginings?
I remember when the O.J.Simpson trial was in the headlines. People would ask me if I thought he was guilty. With no known facts, details etc.etc. people would weigh in with their verdict.
Liberals don't need facts ( like Obama)
they just make them up.

Interloper| 5.1.10 @ 3:36AM

Roy, you're a pain in the ass and an insufferable bore; is that "grown up" enough for you?

Troll Watch| 5.1.10 @ 9:40AM

Why are trolls such projectors?

Roy| 5.1.10 @ 2:07PM

So here's where I come back with something snide or snarky?
This is so easy!

REMEMBER NOVEMBER!| 5.1.10 @ 2:59PM

Then why didn't you do it, moron? You got nothin', troll, you're just another braindead liberal.

Roy| 5.1.10 @ 4:52PM

Thats it?
Moron?
Troll?
Braindead liberal?
I'm just reeling. Just devasted by your brilliant repartee.
Was my 2nd post too subtle?
Did you even read the first one REMEMBER NOVEMBER! ????
I guess liberals aren't the only folks basing their opinions on imagined facts.
These replies kinda prove my point.
Don't you think?

REMEMBER NOVEMBER!| 5.1.10 @ 5:11PM

Get a life, troll--you add nothing to the debate.

Roy| 5.1.10 @ 10:10PM

This is the funniest thing I've ever done.
I had to check back to see if Remember November would add something.
He has the most devastating way with the stupid insult. It's hilarious. I did notice that he made similar irrelevant comments to other posts.
I shouldn't have gotta drawn in but I was sort of stunned that some one reading American Spectator could be such a total wad!
Normally I don't slow down for a car wreck but I couldn't turn away from Remember November.
God...I can't stop laughing.

Roy| 5.1.10 @ 10:26PM

To my knowledge the first person to write about the "Troll" phenomenon was Jeanette Colville in the American Thinker last summer or there abouts.
Funny how in a mere 8 or 9 months it's evolved into a political epithet of sorts.
Can't offer an articulate comment?
Call the person a Troll.
Like calling someone a"Teabagger" I guess.
Doesn't add much to the conversation.
Not that this post does. lol

REMEMBER NOVEMBER!| 5.1.10 @ 11:06PM

Usually, you liberal whores are the teabaggers; why do you think CNN fancy boy, Anderson Cooper started using it?

LIBERALS = PERVERTS

Roy| 5.1.10 @ 11:15PM

Judging by his last unhinged comment we can all forget "Remember November".
I'd say that you folks already knew that.
I'm new here.
My bad.

REMEMBER NOVEMBER!| 5.2.10 @ 12:14AM

You're not new, little slut; now pick up your tea bags and go home. Thank you.

The government is sick and corrupted from the top down. Both parties are sick and set on how much can they steal, corrupt, and take from the people they so love to run their mouth about while they do it. What happens when they have taken all they can take and have to print money in order to steal more? The current goal of the government is to take out the financial system. The goal is to default and tear down the world financial system and establish their own new corrupt system.

MichaelAdams| 5.1.10 @ 10:16AM

Happy May Day everyone. "Arise ye prisoners of starvation" and all that.

I'd like to encourage everyone to be nicer to the young trolls we see appearing here from time to time. My wife and I have always tried to speak courteously to our two children, and, at least with our son, it has worked. He is married, respectful of his wife, a founder of his church congregation, college graduate and just got a new job, and he's a very good daddy. We can hope for this much success with our daughter, still too young to tell. I'd hate to think that our snarling at Drew's naive comments would drive her from being the young tawny blond, carelessly tossing her hair over one shoulder, standing up from the computer to stretch those legs with the firm muscular thighs...Wait! Stop, anyway, I would not like to drive her into being a LUG (Lesbian Until Graduation) because of anything unpleasant we said here. Her authority figures said the Bush tax cuts only helped 'the rich,' and she, not having filed or paid any taxes seven years ago, when she was in middle school or just starting high school, has no points of reference, and believes what she has been told. Many of us are going through some very tough times, now. Still, most of us have faith, which is not a blind belief in a fantasy, but simply, when you get right down to it, a much larger view of the world and of life. We need to seek the serenity and joy thereof, and thereby gain the strength to get up and do what must be done. (No, I don't think faith is like Powder Milk Biscuits. I just think that the Biscuits are a metaphor for faith.) I encourage everyone involved in a church to start a prayer and support group for the unemployed and underemployed. Some of us may need a miracle, if we ever hope to work again. Others, however, will benefit from the encouragement, the networking, the sharing of resources. On the other hand, we need to improve the political life of our country, and that means improving the quality of our political discourse. Speak gently to the Drews and Kylies of this world. We were all young once. Our future lies in helping them to grow strong and smart and straight-shooting, maybe even learning not to vote Democrat until nearly fifty years of age, as I did. Encourage them to allow the nuggets of experience and first hand knowledge that they acquire to move their thinking into more realistic appraisals of the world. This process does happen. Anyone can say that the TEA parties displayed hateful signs. Millions of us have attended, and we know that there were no such signs at our parties. Anyone can say that we indiscriminately slaughtered Iraqi civilians, but millions of our young -people were there, and coped with the Rules of Engagement that risked THEIR lives to spare civilians. The Left have a great deal of media firepower, and would love to try to silence any sharing of our real life experiences. We must be quite forceful in opposing those attempts. However, given a minimally free press and Internet, the truth will out. Times are very tough, now. I have seen them even worse, for me and mine. Still, we are not just hoping for a brighter future. We are building it.

SoCon| 5.1.10 @ 3:23PM

Michael, thank you for your well-reasoned post, but we've been "debating" Drew the troll for over a year now (he/she showed up shortly after Obama's election in 2008) and we know that he does not argue in good faith.

"Drew" has gone through numerous name changes on this site. These changes usually occur after he/she has erupted into a fit of foul language and name calling.

"Firm, muscular thighs" notwithstanding, many of us have lost our patience with this fool; perhaps that's the reason we sound so vexed.

Margie| 5.1.10 @ 4:08PM

Conservatives don't win by being nice. Nice is not something required by God. Else would Jesus have called liars, liars? Would he have called hypocrites, hypocrites? How about when He told the Jews who refused to believe in Him that they "are of their father the Devil." John chapter 8. Or when He called them "a brood of vipers.?"

I for one am through being "nice."

Bydand76| 5.1.10 @ 10:48AM

Hey all,
Great point by alot of posters in here on this topic. Kudos to you Eric (of the Conservative mind. You said exactly what I was thinking!)

Anyways,
Here is an interesting quote that was brought up yesterday by my favorite conservative commentator. Jason Lewis of Minnesota.

He brought up a valid point/quote that relates to this topic.

"Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable."
John F. Kennedy ...

If the TEA Party continues to voice itself and makes itself a political hurricane as it is doing right now. What OTHER steps are going to be taken by the left in order to minimize its affect on the political landscape. I think it will get quite nasty before Nov and the 2012 presidential elections.

Clearly the shrill accusations and acerbic rhetoric coming from the progressive left against a movement that has all the showing of a grass roots tidal wave hitting the shores in Nov. cannot be tolerated any longer. Also it shows that the left is increasingly scared by this movement as well. Look at the hatred pointed towards Sarah Palin for illustration of my point!

That is why you are seeing such a mendacious out-pouring of race baiting and Nazi associating by the left. Regardless of the facts which the left is intentionally ignoring to their own detriment. 42 other states have similar laws in place exactly like AZ (NOT to mention that AZ is only enforcing current Federal laws) But the lefts continual wailing and caricaturization of the right to Nazi Germany is deplorable and deeply flawed when compared to the historical record! This will only serve to polarize the division in this country even more than it already is.

One thing that I am going to bring up here because I have not heard it mentioned anywhere else is this.
Part of my family lived in AZ for awhile (Prescott)
and so I have been down that way quite a few times. One thing that I noticed is that a LOT of law enforcement in AZ is of Latino descent. So if I use a progressive's mindset does this mean that the police officers who are Hispanic are Nazi's if they enforce this law. What about the Border Patrol officers who are of Latino persuasion?

I would think that this, in of itself, destroys the left's argument!!! Yet no one points this out to them. Anyways.

Conservatives have NOTHING in common with the ideology of what was Hitlers Germany. They are polar opposites. Why this continues to be lost on most of the media elites only serves to reinforce my point.

What the left is doing is trying to silence the opposition. They are taking a page directly out of Alinsky's playbook! This is what they have learned to do! Come Nov. I think it will have reached epic proportions and will only serve to divide the already dysfunctional populace that we currently reside in.
The left had better beware if it wishes to continue as a viable political party. They do this at there own risk. The Reagan democrats will not take lightly to this vilification of their sovereign rights.
There is a reason it is called ILLEGAL!.

The TEA Party simply needs to continue what it is doing and to grow. RINO's need not apply and Conservatives need to take control.
But they also need to be aware of the possibility that there will be an attempt by the left to remove them from the landscape.

After all, Alinsky's tactics were based, not on Stalin's revolutionary violence, but on the Neo-Marxist strategies of Antonio Gramsci, an Italian Communist. Relying on gradualism, infiltration and the dialectic process rather than a bloody revolution, Gramsci's transformational Marxism was so subtle that few even noticed the deliberate changes.

Like Alinsky, Mikhail Gorbachev followed Gramsci, not Lenin. In fact, Gramsci aroused Stalins's wrath by suggesting that Lenin's revolutionary plan wouldn't work in the West. Instead the primary assault would be on Biblical absolutes and Christian values, which must be crushed as a social force before the new face of Communism could rise and flourish

Don't believe me? Ok. read Alinsky's words for what they are then!

Margie| 5.1.10 @ 12:56PM

Excellent post, Bydand. And I would add to it this, and it is just as serious. Not only is there an attack on Biblical absolutes and Christian principles by the Left, but there is also an attack on same by another section of the electorate. And that is by the ever growing, militant, nasty, hateful Libertarian/Paul-bot types who absolutely despise Christians, are anti-semitic, and troll about trying to convince others NOT to vote for the Republican candidate because they aren't conservative enough. I give you the lovely Tim* above.

There are many that inhabit this website. WilliamR, Sean, Toddard, Red Phillips, Tim*, et al.

They say that we are "Neo-cons" "Israel Firsters" "America haters" and other choice words. They actually despise good conservatives such as (and especially Mark Levin), Rush, Sean, and others.

They seek to split the Republican vote allowing the Democrats to once again win.

They are also working from within to DESTROY the Republican party, which we need to be RESTORING by electing conservative candidates. Marco Rubio is the latest target. Because Marco Rubio said something not to the liking of the Paul-bots, they would want you to not vote for him, or write in a candidate of your choice.

Bad move! It begs the question~ who's side are they really on?

Haven't been around much lately, am starting a second company designed to help people save money on their utility bills which I fear will be rising quite soon.
You are all Patriots. What the Left fears more than anything else is their inability to alter our Will and Determination. In the Revolutionary War, George Washington''s army shrank to 2500 threadbare souls.
We must not lose Faith. We must not waver.
The rights given to us by God are inalienable. These Progressives cannot and will not take them from us. We only lose them when We give up.
They can call me anything they wish. After 57 years in this great country with a great wife and two strong sons..I know who I am and from all of your writings...I know who your are.
We are Patriots and we are part of Washinton's 2500. We will never give in.

Great post Tennessee!! You made me think of one of Washington's best Patriots, who had a hell of a way with words too.

"These are the times that try men's souls: The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of his country; but he that stands it Now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman. Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict the more glorius the triumph."

Thomas Paine
The Crisis -- December 1776

God bless you Tennessee and LLL; I am honored to be among you. Honestly, American patriots like you give me hope and strengthen my resolve to fight for our beloved country!

This time in history is Our Watch and we must stand strong to preserve our precious God-given freedom that so many American patriots before us have fought and died for.

Lullaby's, Legends and Lies| 5.1.10 @ 8:03PM

Thanks SoCon!! I'll take any blessing that I can get, because I think the U.S. Army is trying to run me to death (literally!!), so I'll take all the prayers that I can get. They say it's for my own good, but being paranoid about the U.S. Government (that I sometimes am?), I'm actually starting to think they're really out to get me personally. Which is why I've spent most of my "God-given freedom" today, sleeping in late, and then returning again for another afternoon nap. Whew!! I'm tired!! What a weekend this is turning out to be!!

SoCon| 5.1.10 @ 9:54PM

Maybe they're trying to get you guys in shape for your next Lady Gaga video. ;)

Lullaby's, Legends and Lies| 5.1.10 @ 10:29PM

I really have no idea what that means SoCon? But I'm nodding politely anyway!! Lady Gaga? Is she British or something? If she's on M-TV or VH-1, that would explain why I don't know her, I haven't watched those channels, since Van Halen's Hot for Teacher video. If it's not Classic Rock, it ain't shit (IMHO)!!

SoCon| 5.1.10 @ 11:15PM

Really? By now, I thought for sure you would have seen the video of our guys from the 82nd Airborne Div. (in Afghanistan) and their hilarious remake of Lady Gaga's 'Telephone'. I'm sure it's gone viral.

It's still on Drudge.

Lullaby's, Legends and Lies| 5.1.10 @ 11:57PM

I just watched it, and I want my four minutes back!! All I have to say about that video is, UCMJ for everybody involved!! I pray they aren't "really" with the 82nd!! But if they are, the only explanation I have for it is, when we jump out of planes, we're falling at 22 feet per second, and we hit the ground really hard. Is that really popular music today? It makes me want to rip out my hair!! I guess everybody wants their 15 minutes of fame, even if, in gaining it, they embarrass their entire Division. Am I over reacting to this? I do that sometimes!!

SoCon| 5.2.10 @ 12:27AM

I don't think they thought it would go viral--but it did!
WTH!! Let them have a little fun! As you already know, it's a tough gig over there; and, frankly, I was impressed by their costuming and choreography!

I hope they don't get any grief for this; I loved them for it. It's just the way we are; irreverent in the face of danger.

Lady Gaga is pretty rough; I feel like I have to take a shower after listening to one of her songs. Guess these guys don't mind her, though. lol

Lullaby's, Legends and Lies| 5.2.10 @ 12:41AM

You're probably right!! They were just trying to blow off some steam, and kill a little time, in that God forsaken land. I guess I'm a bit of a party-pooper, and as an example of that, I'm sitting here on a Saturday/Sunday night watching and reading news instead of being out on the town partying (but I don't drink anymore!!) like everybody else. So maybe I'm not the best judge of having fun anymore? I'll take being serious over having fun, in a second. See what I mean? No fun at all!!

SoCon| 5.2.10 @ 12:55AM

Unfortunately, after watching the video by the guys in Afghanistan, I watched the original by Lady G! It was the 'clean' version and it was still really disgusting.
Beyonce was in it, which surprised me.

I used to work out to Lady Gaga's music, but after watching one of her videos I couldn't any more. She grossed me out that much. There's something wrong with that girl.

Margie| 5.2.10 @ 2:22PM

SoCon & Lullabyes'~ you are both 2 cool 4 words (a little texting lingo), though I've never texted in my life! I don't drink anymore either, Lullabye's~ nor do I party. By God's Grace.
Lady GaGa? LOL. Last time I worked out, it was to the Rolling Stones, and doing high kicks, I fell and sprained my ankle~ REAL bad! That was 2 decades ago.
Love U 2.
Don't reply~just sayin'!

SoCon| 5.2.10 @ 2:51PM

High kicks, huh?
What a visual, Margie! Were you doing aerobics and wearing a leotard and tights? How about a headband on your forehead? That was a sweet look, wasn't it? Ha!

I hope you weren't working out to one of Jane "VC" (I'm not very fonda her!) Fonda's workout videos when you hurt yourself.

Margie| 5.2.10 @ 3:10PM

Nope, just my walkman cassette player with a Stones tape in it, no gear just my hangin' out clothes. Bare feet too. Very duuuhhh. Last time I ever did that. Now I just sorta mozy around to Stevie Ray Vaughn. Love them blues.
But I also LOVE Mozart! Go figure.

Hi Margie: Do you listen to Mr Robert Cray at all? I love his early stuff, especially Strong Persuader (he won a grammy for that one). U2 was great up till Joshua Tree, but then their World politics got in the way too much for me. I saw Stevie Ray open up for Tom Petty in New Haven, and I never cared for him up until that night. He blew poor old Petty off the stage!!

SoCon: Beatles fan? Me too!! I play a pretty good version of Day Tripper, Hello Goodbye, and Good Day Sunshine on my bass. Paul is a very under rated bass player.

This thread has gotten a little off topic way down here, don't you think? Oops!!

Margie| 5.2.10 @ 5:33PM

LLL,
I like Robert Cray, yes. Not a fan of just about anything 80's though, although I did like the early U-2, who couldn't? The only time I actually listen to anything other than classical is when I'm working out (mozying to the music) or driving! I'm a product of the 60's-70's and so I never got over the Stones, Zeppelin, Beatles (4-ever& always!) Hendrix, Clapton, and ALL BLUES! Other than that I'm a MOZART freak. And I absolutely love Bach.

Lullaby's, Legends and Lies| 5.2.10 @ 6:02PM

Cool Margie!! You must be a big fan of the movie Amadeus then? He rocks!! I saw Clapton at Madison Square Garden in the late 80's(?), and he put on one of the most professional show I've ever seen. The entire band wore suits, until the encore, then they lightened up a bit, and took their jackets off for the last few songs. For me, I'm more of a progressive-rock fan (with progressive in this case, haven't nothing to do with liberal politics at all- just complicated music), like Jethro Tull, Yes, Genesis, Floyd, Beatles, and Zeppelin too. I can almost play Black Dog on my bass, but I always screw it up at some point (it's very hard). My favorite American artist is the Great New Yorker, Mr Billy Joel. I've seen him in concert at least a dozen times, even once at Yankee Stadium. He had a bit of a drinking problem too, if I remember correctly? Something to do with his car, and a house, and his car running into that house? Yeah, but he's one of the greatest piano players in the World, and a hell of a songwriter too. I hope he's put that drinking problem behind him by now!!

Margie| 5.2.10 @ 5:40PM

p.s.
Such a sad demise of Steveie Ray Vaughn, I hope he is in Heaven with the Lord. It must gave been some show that you got to see. I didn't know who he was until one day a younger co-worker was playing a tape of him and he asked me if I knew who it was. I thought it was Hendrix. I'll never forget his reaction. He lit up. He always played his music in the cubicle we shared and I sure didn't mind! What a great guitarist and singer he was.

Lullaby's, Legends and Lies| 5.2.10 @ 6:08PM

That was supposed to be Clapton's seat on the helicopter (don't you know?), but Stevie took it instead, and that was all she wrote!! We'll never know where he would've went from there, but he left a hell of a mark in a short time anyway. He got his big break, playing the solo, on David Bowie's China Girl, which is the only good thing about that song. SRV rocking it out in heaven? Why not, he had cleaned up his act by then!!

Margie| 5.2.10 @ 6:44PM

I didn't know that about it being Clapton's seat. Wow. Looks like God is giving more time for Eric to get right with Him. That's how I look at it. God is in control of everything, and especially things like that.

I also didn't know that about China Girl. Interesting. I really liked some of Bowie's songs back then, as well.

Re: Mozart~I don't even like opera but if you ever hear an opera by Mozart you'd be awed. Mozart's music is an upper for me. Every single thing, to me~ (except the serious operas et al), are cheerful and uplifting. I kid you not, they're wonderful. I did see the movie Amadeus, a long time ago. I remember reading it wasn't exactly correct (as most Holly-weird movies aren't), but it was interesting enough. At that time I went with a good friend who was actually studying Mozart in a course she was taking, and brought home some Mozart LP's~ ye olde vinyl. She turned me on to him, otherwise I may have never paid much attention. He was a genius with "talent on loan from God."

How could I have forgotten Pink Floyd? LOL. Yes another fave of mine. I saw them live back in the early 70's and they performed the album Dark Side of the Moon, it just came out. It was at Roosevelt Stadium, outdoors. It was absolutely fantastic.

I saw Clapton too in the early 70's. I LOVE the guitar, whether it be electric or acoustic. I LOVE the mandolin in Zeppelin's songs~ beautiful, beautiful stuff. I still want to learn it, one day, hopefully, before I leave this earth.

I wasn't much of a Billy Joel fan, probably because I'm more of a guitar person.
I was also a huge Dylan fan back in the early 70's. Later on, looking back, after I became a Christian, I couldn't regard rock music in the same way. Part of me loves it~the "old me" but the "new me", in Christ, prefers Mozart and Bach and gospel Blue Grass and the old Christian hymns, which are my favorites.
So~while I may sometimes drive & "work out" while "intoxicated" on Rock~ my daily background music is mostly Mozart!

"Therefore, if any one is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has passed away, behold, the new has come." 2 Cor. 5:17.

It just doesn't have the same meaning as it used to!

Lullaby's, Legends and Lies| 5.2.10 @ 8:54PM

You Rock Margie!! BTW, Roger Waters (aka: the real Pink behind Floyd) is going to be playing the Garden, and Nassau Coliseum in October, and then East Rutherford in November (that's as close as he's going to get for you) playing the entire Wall Album. He's a complete Socialist don't you know, hell maybe he's a full blown Communist, I'm not sure, but he sure knows how to make a great concept album. He's just another example of how fake the Left are, he hates being rich and successful, but he hasn't given away a single dollar of his fortune either. But once again, I don't care, because I love Dark Side, Animals, Wish you were here, the Wall (I'm very jealous you got to see that), Obscured by Clouds, and the Final Cut (plus his solo stuff too, KAOS, and Pros and Cons). You should hear me play "Money"on my bass, you can almost see the laser light show, and the flying bed!!

I've got a lot of Classical music on my Mac too, and sometimes I'm in the mood for it, and sometimes I'm not, but I have a good appreciation for it. It sets a good mood, when you don't want to be distracted!!

We seemed to have gotten completely off topic here, so I'll put us back on, Pupleguy sucks!!

Margie| 5.2.10 @ 10:25PM

Yes, Purple guys sucks.
And YOU rock! Now, back to our conversation, yes, Roger Waters and that bass.. awesome. I LOVE bass. The bassier the better, And I love saxophone along with it. Nothing like it! The bass is like the rock form of the cello, no? I have Bach music that is all solo cello music and I blast it. I used to blast rock, but now I blast Mozart. Let the neighbors get a good earful of good stuff.
I have been tempted to go to a rock concert but my better judgement wins out. It's the crowds. It's too crazy for me not to mention a tad bit too loud, even for me!
I did go to see Dylan several years ago in NJ. Santana opened for him. They were absolutely fantastic. That bongo or congo playing those guys do just knocked my socks right off. And of course Carlos Santana and his guitar playing~ you know how great he is. Words cannot describe. They are fabulous. And Dylan was excellent. He actually sang so that you could understand him that time, LOL. And I don't remember the name of his band but they were of the highest caliber and fantastic. That was the first and last concert I'd been to since the early 70's!I saw the Stones 3 nights in one week also in the early 70's.. needles to say they were fantastic. Threw a styrofoam frisbee to Mick Jagger on stage~they handed them out as we were walking in (the Garden, NYC). He motioned to me to throw it and I did. I was a bad shot but at least it landed on the stage, LOL.
OK~enough with the kid stuff. Fast forward to the present.
We're at war with terrorists and you're one of our BEST fighting in it for us~ and you ARE the best, Sgt. Lullabye's~
Here's to you! God bless you and keep you. I am, in my prayers. Always.

Lullaby's, Legends and Lies| 5.2.10 @ 10:54PM

Thanks Margie!! A little more off topic history about Santana, that you might not know. Back in the day, of the Santana "Woodstock" era, the rhythm guitarist, and keyboardist, started a little band on the side, when Carlos was too busy to go out gigging with them. And as time went by, that side band started to take off. Then they got a record contract, and at some point the two of them had to decide between Santana or their own band. They went with their own band instead of Carlos, and thus was born Journey, and the soundtrack of my teen years. And now here we are today, and I'm waiting for the "Lights to go down, in the City by the Bay", and it should be any minute now, because California is completely broke, and can't pay their bills anymore. Due to who? You know!! And Journey predicted that, thanks to Carlos not wanting to play enough shows with them!! I'll see you again during the week, on another thread. I always read your posts, especially when you get into fights. They should know better, but they don't obviously, you don't pick a fight with a Jersey girl. It's not a good idea!!

An absolutely brilliant exposition of some of the core contradictions of liberalism/progressivism. How can a good prpgressive not get angry when the damned people refused to be helped? An are ungrateful besides????

Alinsky's rule # 13
:13. Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it. In conflict tactics there are certain rules that [should be regarded] as universalities. One is that the opposition must be singled out as the target and 'frozen.'...

Tell me that isn't happening right now !

Thanks for the thoughts and prayers. They say it's a small world, but I wish it was smaller, and we'd be closer together.
(Imagine us in the same town!)

I have E-mailed Tex, and will do so again, I can imagine the volume that fills his box. It happens to those who make things happen.

I spent the majority of my life as a tool & die maker, with a few side ventures, so I imagine your husband and I could talk shop for hours, as men like to do.

'till then, keep the faith, I'm a survivor, and that skill will be needed by all of us, as we attempt to undo the horror and evil being perpetrated by this scrawny little devil in OUR HOUSE.

Fortune favors the bold, and if you can't you must!

I think the Left organized or not used GWB as the prime target since the 2000 election. From there, the hatred built intentionally I believe and BHO--this is key--is purposefully bullying Voters. This not just "young, naive president--this is the strategy in play. Many do not grasp this, are in denial or are lying ( to themselves and others ).
Look at how he handles immigration, energy, healthcare etc.
The bottom line is the Republicans cannot cowar to this guy. They must call him out on his behavior and his policies.

Lighten up, my brother-in-arms. That video was hilarious BECAUSE it was so amateurish. Guys making their own fun in a very un-fun place. Go 82nd!

Lullaby's, Legends and Lies| 5.2.10 @ 11:02AM

Your right, and I know that!! But I wish I knew how to lighten up anymore, I'm too damn serious, too damn often. I think I may have partied all the fun out of myself, back in the day, when I was partying (which happened to be a Wednesday). Now I'm just angry, and cranky, and pissed off all the time. I think I may need to find a new hobby? As long as it doesn't involve running!!

Bydand76| 5.2.10 @ 11:22AM

Triple L,

Here is my advice.
I was kinda like that a couple years back and I figured out that I was just kinda bored.
SO!
I took up playing the drums! No Kidding!

Pro Libertate!

Lullaby's, Legends and Lies| 5.2.10 @ 4:45PM

B-76: I haven't tried the drums in years, but I did a mean "Who" like version of "You really got me", back in the early 90's, that I still have on cassette tape, with me trashing the entire drum set at the end of the song. But I could never move my feet independently of my arms, so I was always very limited while playing the drums. But I do play a mean version of "Jethro Tull's-Aqualung" on my Epiphone bass, just to piss off my neighbors sometimes. Normally, I play it, very early on Sunday morning's!! I'm a bad neighbor!! But I don't get the chance to play it here, like I did while I was over in Iraq, there's just too many distractions in America!!

Ken (Old Texican)| 5.2.10 @ 12:38PM

Bydand76
OK, maybe triple L and I can take up the fife, and we are set to go. Who wants to carry the flag?

SoCon| 5.2.10 @ 2:36PM

Oh, hells bells, Old Tex--I will!

Margie| 5.2.10 @ 2:43PM

I would consider it an honor just to be able to march with you at the back of the line.

Lullaby's, Legends and Lies| 5.2.10 @ 4:55PM

Ken: I'd be honored to be in the group, but I don't know how to play the fife at all, but I can play a mean Kazoo. Which I believe, if I know my music history, was invented by the same family who invented the bagpipes. It turns out, they just loved inventing instruments that made you want to go to War. Maybe they were Irish? I don't know, but there definitely was alcohol involved!!

Save for the outrage coming from Columbia residents themselves, therefore, the mass anger directed at the Columbia Police Department over the last week is misdirected.

Jake| 5.18.10 @ 2:19PM

This article asks why the left gets upset with Tea Party supporters. I look over to the left of the article and see an advertisement for "The Largest Selection of Liberal-Baiting Merchandise on the Net".

Then I look down at the comments section, and see some serious flame wars going on.

I have a hard time taking the Tea Party Movement seriously because a good many of those involved are hate-mongers. I'm not saying that people with other political idealogies are guiltless either, but the ones doing the bullying on this webpage are definitely the Tea Party supporters, not the liberals.

Does anyone remember "R'evoL'ution" from Ron Paul's campaign? What ever happened to that? I was all for Ron Paul's campaign because it was very constructive in nature. I'd never associate myself with the Tea Party though.
