Obama in Rude Denial

And he’s happy to blow off the Europeans — could they be missing Bush?

IT’S ALL A GOP PLOT
The White House political and legislative operations were said to be livid with the announcement by several large U.S. companies that they were taking multi-million or as much as a billion dollar charges because of the new health-care law, the issue was front-and-center with key lawmakers. By last Friday, AT&T, Caterpillar, Deere & Co., and AK Steel Holding Corp. had all announced that they were taking the one-time charges on their first-quarter balance sheets. More companies were expected to make similar announcements this week.

“These are Republican CEOs who are trying to embarrass the President and Democrats in general,” says a White House legislative affairs staffer. “Where do you hear about this stuff? The Wall Street Journal editorial page and conservative websites. No one else picked up on this but you guys. It’s BS.”

On Friday White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel and Obama senior advisor Valerie Jarrett were calling the CEOs and Washington office heads of the companies that took the financial hits and attacked them for doing so. One Washington office head said that the White House calls were accusatory and “downright rude.”

The companies are taking the charges because in 2013 they will lose a tax deduction on tax-free government subsidies they have had when they give retirees a Medicare Part D prescription-drug reimbursement. Many of these companies have more than 100,000 retirees each. AT&T may have more than three-quarters of a million retirees to cover.

“Most of these people [in the Administration] have never had a real job in their lives. They don’t understand a thing about business, and that includes the President,” says a senior lobbyist for one of the companies that announced the charge. “My CEO sat with the President over lunch with two other CEOs, and each of them tried to explain to the President what this bill would do to our companies and the economy in general. First the President didn’t understand what they were talking about. Then he basically told my boss he was lying. Frankly my boss was embarrassed for him; he clearly had not been briefed and didn’t know what was in the bill.”

It isn’t just the President who didn’t understand his own proposal.  Late Friday, House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Henry Waxman and Rep. Bart Stupak, chairman of the Oversight and Investigations panel, announced that they would hold hearings in late April to investigate “claims by Caterpillar, Verizon, and Deere that provisions in the new health care reform law could adversely affect their company’s ability to provide health insurance to their employees.”

Neither Waxman or Stupak — who betrayed the pro-life community by negotiating for more than a week with the White House to ensure his vote on the health care bill — had anything more than a cursory understanding of how the many sections of the bill would impact business or even individual citizens before they voted on the bill, says House Energy Democrat staff. “We had memos on these issues, but none of our people, we think, looked at them,” says  a staffer. “When they saw the stories last week about the charges some of the companies were taking, they were genuinely surprised and assumed that the companies were just doing this to embarrass them.  They really believed this bill would immediately lower costs. They just didn’t understand what they were voting on.”

NOT WHAT THEY EXPECTED
So much for President Obama’s promises to build better relations with America’s friends and allies overseas. Just 15 months into his administration, Obama has managed to alienate most of the major European allies, this time having a State Department functionary announcing in Brussels that U.S.-EU summits will no longer be held annually, and only when there are particular issues to be decided.

State Department officials, some of whom were holdovers from the Bush Administration, say the reasoning for the U.S. to end the annual summits, which had been held since 1991, was in part due to Obama and his team’s feeling ” slighted” by European leaders and their staffs, such as French president Nicolas Sarkozy and German Chancellor Angela Merkel, both of whom have come away less than impressed with Obama’s style and substance.

During Obama’s much heralded European visits last year, he and his team were met with lukewarm enthusiasm by his fellow leaders. Obama responded by, as host last November, meeting with his counterparts for only three hours and sending Vice President Joe Biden to spend the rest of the time in the summit, including the official lunch. Other than a 15-minute meeting in the morning with Merkel (which on the schedule was supposed to be a half-hour), the summit meeting, Obama had an almost open schedule on that day, with only a late-afternoon meeting with Sen. Blanche Lincoln on the agenda.

Then in February Obama announced that he would not attend a U.S.-EU Summit in Madrid, Spain, scheduled to take place in May, thus ensuring the meeting would be canceled.

The Obama Administration got off to a rocky start diplomatically when it embarrassed British Prime Minister Gordon Brown by giving him official White House presents — U.S. formatted DVDs that could not played in Great Britain due to different formatting, for example — that created the impression Obama didn’t seem to care much for Brown.  He later, in meeting Queen Elizabeth II gave her an iPod, loaded with podcasts of his major speeches.

“People may not have liked some of the Bush Administration’s style, but at least President Bush came to meetings and was gracious,” says a current State Department staffer. ” I won’t say that the Europeans are missing Bush, but they feel that President Obama just doesn’t care about the ‘special relationship’ that has existed between American and Europe. He’s made it worse, not better.”

Prowler identifies the administration is livid as the fallout from Obamacare Law and gives a reasonable explanation why: Obama and his ilk are inadquately qualified to lead let alone legislate. Yet the major press is afraid to query these shortcomings. Thanks Prowler.

SC Mike| 3.29.10 @ 6:54AM

Okay, the administration is populated with folks who’ve run nothing bigger than a tenement building, but one would think that members of Congress would be aware of little things like Sarbanes-Oxley and other “suggestions” that corporate officials have a fiduciary responsibility to make public adverse information ASAP, no? Waxman has called on the companies’ execs not only to testify, but to provide all sorts of private financial information.

What a bunch of rookies…

Son Of Sam| 3.29.10 @ 11:23AM

I agree Mike, these no talent ass clowns could fuck up a wet dream. But what do you expect when they have a "leader" who's never done anything except be a "community organizer",a scumbag lawyer for Acorn, and run for office and live off the taxpayers? Yet he STILL believes that he's an expert on everything from healthcare to beer summits.

Good GOD, how DO they put their bra and panties on in the morning?

stand strong until freedom dawns

Sean| 3.29.10 @ 3:47PM

You learn this in your first day of business school, by reading the WSJ or just remembering the laws you have enacted. These people really are stupid. God help us.

William Rau| 4.1.10 @ 2:33PM

If you think this is stupid, how about Hank Johnson's concern that transferring 8,000 Marines to Guam would cause the island to capsize and sink. I kid you not.

Patrick M.| 4.1.10 @ 10:55PM

What a bunch of rookies… "

I disagree. They are not rookies, they are THUGS.

They know well enough that private-sector health provisions will be destroyed by this bill - THAT'S THE PLAN.

Their thuggish attempt to bully CEOs and companies is nothing more than dissent-suppression operation. This bill is an utter disaster that will bankrupt the country and the Democrats are counting on the LIE that once in place, it cannot be rolled back, even if there is a better way (and there is). Only thugs and liars operate by such rules.

Robert| 4.2.10 @ 2:56AM

I hope the company leaders stuff it back in Waxman's face by pointing out how it's the job of their companies' teams of lawyers and accountants to know how legislation will affect the business of the companies they work for, and the company lawyers and accountants clearly know far more about what the bill will REALLY do than any of the congressmen who voted to pass it. I hope they turn this congressional inquisition around on the Democrats and publicly humiliate them big time. It would be well-deserved.

Comrade Mao| 3.29.10 @ 7:00AM

Please don't be critical of Dear Leader or you may need to be sent to reeducation camp.

Ret. Marine| 3.29.10 @ 7:31AM

Yeah I've got his reeducation camp right here.

Grzmlyk| 3.29.10 @ 11:34AM

Those who refuse to be re-educated will be eliminated.

The State is All!
Obama Is the State!
Long Live Obama!
May He Lead Us with beneficence for 1,000 years!

Think we're far from that? We are THERE.

What we have here, folks, is a coup d'tat. A third-world, banana republic-style strong man usurping power, abetted by his power-drunk cronies.

Tick tick tick.

Grzmlyk| 3.29.10 @ 11:37AM

Oops. I meant "coup d'etat."

Marc Jeric| 3.29.10 @ 7:13PM

You are right, Sir, more than you think. Abu Hussein from Kenya is our Community Organizer-in-Chief; that is his only "qualification" for the job. He has his system of local soviets in place (ACORN brownshirts and SEIU and teacher union thugs) and could not care less for what we think.

RetAF| 4.6.10 @ 9:23PM

Only ACORN has become a PR embarrassment so its being dissolved and folded into other organizations. Much like the SA was...

Robert| 4.2.10 @ 3:01AM

In which case, maybe it's time for the army to do what it must to defend the Constitution, this time from domestic enemies. The example set by Honduras would seem to be the appropriate model.

vern| 4.5.10 @ 5:35PM

you Robert hit the nail on the head....3 cheers..

Janet | 9.12.10 @ 1:18AM

Yes, but didn't we (the U.S.) support the wrong side when it came to Honduras? I was so embarrassed!

John B| 3.29.10 @ 11:43PM

Unlike a real "reeducation camp" in this one detainees would die laughing.

Darin| 3.29.10 @ 7:06AM

Well, Obama DID promise "change." Sadly, the majority of the American population failed to ask the obvious question: change from what to what?

MoxNix| 3.29.10 @ 12:33PM

Darin, you misheard Dear Leader: he promised chains.

vern| 4.5.10 @ 5:37PM

not "Hope & Change"" he said "Hoax & Chains"!!

Carter Burger| 3.30.10 @ 9:31AM

Actually, there were people asking what this "change" he promised was. However they were attacked, mocked and called racists for questioning the motives of a black man. They are still being attacked, mocked and called racists because they dare question the motives of a black man.

GA_MAN| 3.30.10 @ 12:24PM

I thought it was: "Change you can bereave in."

JP| 3.29.10 @ 7:14AM

It is interesting how this administration views itself in relation to the people it governs. So what if the President was livid. These corporations are under no obligation to make the Anointed One happy anymore than the GOP is. And the idea of Congress investigating how these corporations are taking a loss? Congress authored the bill. Perhaps Waxman and Stupak should make a phone call to the office of Max Baccus. Or better yet, query thier own staffers who were suppose to be experts on this bill. Funny, how these Forture 500 corporations were on top of the tax subsidy. I cannot imagine thier lobbyiests weren't.

But, the bottom line is: The Anointed One isn't happy! And his court is paralyzed with fear. It would be very funny if it wasn't so scary.

Tom in Michigan| 3.29.10 @ 4:34PM

I would LOVE to go before Waxman's committee with all my financials if I was one of these CEOs. This could be an opportunity; banished from the discussion before Obamacare was passed to present hard-and-fast data based upon established principles of accounting. Like our Detroit Congressman John Conyers (husband of admitted felon, Monica Conyers) has openly admitted for himself though, most of them, lacking any formal business training probably wouldn’t have the slightest idea what they were seeing.

Stoop Davy Dave| 3.29.10 @ 8:51PM

heh heh heh heh heh so, wait now, wait, let me see if I follow this ...
These Dimbulbs are upset because the release of these financial figures are An Embarrassment to their ridiculous administration and its toxic policies ... okay, got that ... and they expect they're going to be LESS EMBARRASSED by making a federal case out of it? With television cameras, and knowledgeable witnesses whom they COMPEL to come to town and debunk their nonsense?
Tell ya what, we've got geeeeeeeeeeeeniuses packing our parachutes here!

Forever Marine| 3.30.10 @ 6:02PM

This would be funny if it weren't so sad and scary. The ba______ds are being done in by their own stupid Sarbanes-Oxley law (complying with which has cost U.S. companies billions). And they STILL don't get it. They won't get it. They never will because it's business.

Rolly| 3.29.10 @ 7:18AM

Maybe we all have made a mistake maybe just maybe this guy really did sit in Rev. Wrights church for all those years and really did hear nothing.

George F| 3.29.10 @ 1:04PM

Obama is behaving right in line with Rev. Wright's statements; appologizing for America, kissing the butts of those who consider themselves our enemies. He absolutely knows what Rev. Wright said and is acting on it. Can't believe that he is a clueless bully. Another thing I have a hard time believing, that Dem Party members can't see that he's a bully.

As the weeks unfold, the true destruction to the economy will take effect. The Obama administration, staffed with tax cheats, lobbyists and terrorist huggy bears, will all continue to lash out, never understanding that their efforts are counter productive.

Unemployment will be up significantly by the end of the summer. Obama will continue his childish behavior of blaming everyone but himself.

MTF| 3.29.10 @ 12:07PM

My feeling on this situation is that Obama knows exactly what he's doing in the area of wrecking this nation's economic and political structure as we know it...just look at who he's made political friends with overseas.

csd| 4.1.10 @ 5:30PM

MFT, I agree with your full heartedly. This president knows exactly what he is doing. His agenda is to make our nation into a welfare nation tha has to depend on government for all their needs. Why did he take over educational loans by slipping it into a health care bill? All part of the agenda that his czars have put together for him.

vmc| 4.3.10 @ 4:29AM

Agreed!

Obutthead's goal is to turn the US into a Western European social welfare state - that's his model - that's all he know.

Marc Jeric| 3.29.10 @ 7:21PM

I see, Sir, that you are a great optimist. Socialism? No - it is a communist heaven we are seeing being built. We already have 50% of population on the dole; with the health care "reform" we will climb to 60%; and with the illegal aliens amnesty we will pass the no-return point of 66%. Card check is in the pocket already; destruction of the conservative radio will be accomplished by horrific taxation in favor of commie stations. Cap & trade will lead to nationalization of oil & gas companies, coal mines, and electricity companies. I should know - I escaped from acommunist hell many years ago but still remember it well.

CW Gilgenast| 4.1.10 @ 2:32PM

Marc: I could not agree with you more. I only hope that enough true Americans will go to the polls in November and vote these Socialists-Communists out of office.

flfshrmn| 3.29.10 @ 10:00PM

They do understand that their efforts are counterproductive.......Does the Cloward Piven Strategy or the rules for radicals reflect the efforts and direction of this administration? It is becoming more believable by the week.

Martine22| 3.29.10 @ 7:25AM

Business leaders knew what was in the bill because they probably had read it, unlike our leader and his buddies in Congress. More surprises on the way!

Old Soldier | 3.29.10 @ 11:38AM

Of course they read it. The IRS and SEC are breathing down our necks!

Corporations, unlike Congress, are expected to be capable of basic math.

drudge ette obama| 3.29.10 @ 7:37AM

I wouldn't take a call from Rahm Emmanuel or Valerie Jarrett without my lawyer present.

The details of the CEO lunch with Obama should be fully disclosed.

Screw the traitorous bastards, too.

Melvin| 3.29.10 @ 7:58AM

Well...my friends I received my hope and change Saturday. My son and daughter-in-law just lost both their jobs as the State North Carolina is deleting their jobs in the mental health field.
They were told by the State that they had until June and their jobs were no longer be funded because NC is laying the groundwork for Jackass Care and their field was not included in the funding.
Excuse me if I'm a tad bid angry at that Jug eared SOB who is presently on another joyride on Air-force One.
The scary part of this is, NC em pitied all their mental health facilities and dumped these people to the streets and this is what my son and daughter in law did was basicaly baby sit these people making sure they picked up their meds, made it to their appointments and this was a 24 hour on call job.
And now who will keep an eye on these mental health patients??.... Absolutely no one, they are going to be left to their own devices.
For you Obama supporters. You can take your hope and change and shove it up where the sun doesn't shine.

Ticked in Wisconsin| 3.29.10 @ 11:03AM

Well said. I am in the Mental Health field also and have seen what the state mandates have done. I have seen mental healthcare go downhill in our state. This is leaving the most vunerable population without any support system. We must all fight this in the polls this November and at any rally, townhall meeting, or forum available.

s graham| 3.29.10 @ 3:26PM

I am so sorry for their job losses, the unintended consequences of being lead by a know-nothing Senator who never worked a day in his life.I am livid along with you.

hunter10| 3.29.10 @ 7:57PM

Does anyone know who voted for this idiot? I have talked with many people on my daily rout and not a single one will admit voting for him.

Utah Teabagger| 3.31.10 @ 1:49AM

I know a few Idiots who voted for him, but they make them selves Scarce now. Back to the question about what will the mentally Ill do without care, maybe this is an expantion of their End of Life Counceling, Making mentally handicapped people disappear was part of Hitlers 'Final Solution'. He doesn't know he comitting Politically Assisted Suicide.

Robert| 4.2.10 @ 3:15AM

And another part was using the government-run and controlled "health care" system to kill hospital patients to unburden the state. Anyone else remember the comments one of the Democrats made about making care decisions based on financial considerations?

Maggie| 3.29.10 @ 3:44PM

Okay--you're mad! NOW, will you VOTE THEM ALL OUT IN NOVEMBER???? We all need to put our votes where our mouths are. Obama doesn't care what we think and neither do Pelosi, Biden or Reid. Get 'em out and let's vote for people with some sense.

csd| 4.1.10 @ 5:40PM

Maggie, every voter needs to get out and vote them out BUT we need to be certain that whom ever is voted in is a proud, true, patriotic representative that will listen and fight for the rights of We the People. Not just another liar that will say anything to get elected. Before they can run, I think they should have to answer some basic questions, including what our Constitution means to them. Right now we have some hard working people here in Oklahoma fighting to make it mandantory for high school students to know our Constitution before they can graduate.

Tom in Michigan| 3.29.10 @ 4:45PM

Sorry about that, Melvin but, forgive me for playing "one-up" but, my wife and BOTH my sons have lost their jobs. I'm the only one in my family who still has a job - for one reason only - I speak Japanese. Really. Otherwise, I'd be out too. How's that for a comment on this sorry state of affairs?
Also, I have a friend - ex-Army who is now a therapist. I'm calling his right now to see if he got cut as well.
Also, get ready for costs to go up on medical devices. I just received a note from the President of one of the engineering societies to which I belong in which he told me, "medical device manufacturers must now contend with a new excise tax on the sale of many of their products" meaning of course, costs for stents, syringes and even IV's will go up. And, it gets worse; my sister-in-law who has worked in health care for many years told me their HR director, when told of the new costs said, "But, I thought this was 'free'." Their HR DIRECTOR, no less. Good luck.

UpChuck.Liberals| 3.29.10 @ 6:13PM

"And now who will keep an eye on these mental health patients??.... " Aren't they already in Washington DC?

My daughter in law, the sole income source of their family got laid off from an Insurance agency a month ago. Sadly she's a Lib.

Ron| 3.29.10 @ 11:56PM

Well said, Melvin. It is sad when we see our children s lives being changed because of the incompetence in Washington. I pray your son and daughter-in-law will experience a very short period of unemployment.

GA_MAN| 3.30.10 @ 12:45PM

I'm assuming that some of that has to do with the state's partial reliance on Medicare subsidy. If so, it would make sense as an "intended consequence":
2010 (This year)
Medicare cuts to inpatient psych hospitals (7/1/10)
Medicare cuts to home health begin

and next year, in 2011
New Medicare cuts to long-term care hospitals begin (7/1/11)
Additional Medicare cuts to hospitals and cuts to nursing homes and inpatient
rehab facilities begin (FY12)

But hey, as of now:
FDA authorized to approve "follow-on" biologics
(If this means what i think it means, God please help us.)

I would think the Europeans would love Obama. He is remaking us into their image. An entitlement state with high taxes and permanent high unemployment. And eventually a emasculated Defense Department due to sky high, ever increasing entitlements. Add in plenty of illegal immigrants, and the Obama Nation is a copy of France or Belgium.

cheeflo| 3.29.10 @ 10:20AM

Their socialist way of life is predicated on leaving their protection to the US. If they had to maintain the strength to defend themselves, they wouldn't have enough money left over to spread around. I would love to see a 2012 Republican campaign summarizing 0bama’s foreign policy where they describe with a dignified British accent the gifts given to the US upon Gordon Browns first visit – the ornamental pen holder made from the timbers of the anti-slave ship HMS Gannet given to match the desk made from the oak beams of the Gannet’s sister ship, the HMS Resolute; the framed commission of the same ship and the first edition of Sir Gilbert’s famed 7 volume bio of Mr. Churchill. After a great buildup of the historical significance of such gifts have the stately Brit ask, “And whot did President Oooooobama give in return for these gifts? Let's be honest here. Does anyone really think that any of the members of the District of Crimminals read the Pretender n Chief health care bill, authored by some of the most incompetent leaders (to be read the Brightest and the Best) ever to occupy space in the Capitol? When a mass of blithering idiots all add their favorite ingredient to a soup the product becomes a mess of conflicting tastes. No one is sure what the other cook added, and the suprises will keep on coming during the taste test. A lot of Gastro-Intestinal ailments will follow. This blitzkreg form of legislation manuvering will continue and the consequences will be abruptly discovered on a daily basis. As for Melvin and his state- Gov. Yes, but then all those who lost their job will move to Texas and bring their contagion here.

We Texans can handle it. If they want to come and work and raise their families..."WELCOME YA'LL"

Here they will work...or starve....or leave pretty quickly.
If not...well...there are still the Texas Rangers.

Tom in Michigan| 3.29.10 @ 4:58PM

That won't change a thing. The highest unemployment rate in the nation is right here in the beautiful state of Michigan yet, I will bet you a week’s pay that if the election were held today; the serfs in this state would still march back to the polls and re-elect Obama. I will bet you a month's, no-a year's pay they go back and re-elect Carl Levin, Debbie Stabenow, John Conyers (whose wife is an admitted felon), Sander Levin, Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick (mother of convicted felon, former Detroit Mayor Kwame Malik Kilpatrick) and all the rest of their ilk who have ruined this state along another Democrat Governor to replace Jennifer Granholm when she leaves at the end of her term to join the Obamaviks in Washington (not sure about Bart Stupak, though). Stop anybody on the streets of Detroit and ask them who is to blame for Detroit’s and Michigan’s woes and, they will tell you, “It’s Bush’s fault.” We get the government we deserve.

Obamazombies (sleepingwalking over a cliff while chanting): "It's Bush's fault... It's Bush's fault...it's Bush's fault." Sadly, I can empathize with Tom and all of our fellow state residents who are free-thinking non-liberals. Unfortunately, I live in another state of "We the sheeple". Our state of Fla. has over 12% unemployment and I live in the overwhelmingly liberal area of South Fla., where all the liberals are now crying about state budget cuts and no jobs. They will undoubtedly continue to vote for advocates of BIG FED to grow bigger to provide more handouts and take away more liberties. We must stop the Obamazombies! VOTE the progressives out!!

Tom, you're right. They will vote for them again. Sadly, we can see it coming like a train wreck. Once you cross the line and wait for somebody else to take care of you, you vote those people back in. It's tough to vote for individual freedom. What a risk.

Maggie| 3.29.10 @ 4:01PM

Obama said, "I am the one you have been waiting for" Now --read in Revelation 13:1---"And I saw a beast coming up out of the sea--" 13:4 "and they worshipped the beast saying, who is like the beast? who can wage war against him?" You are witnessing prophecy being fulfilled and you sit by and gripe about it but are doing nothing. The beast (Obama--Muslim through and through and bent on our destruction) has hoodwinked America and now stands giving us his proud and arrogant sneer while everything crumbles around us. Seek God while He may be found and watch, I say watch, because the return of Jesus in His Glory is not far off. He is our only hope.

Margie| 3.29.10 @ 4:57PM

Uh, not sure if you're a troll trying to sound weird or not but most Christians don't go around trying to actually say Obama is the Anti Christ. So let me just expose you right here and now.

Richard| 3.29.10 @ 7:43PM

I'll support your view, Maggie. But I disagree that the Obammunist is the Anti-Christ. On the other hand, no mention is made of the United States in Scripture. I'm not surprised. Put on your life jackets, folks; this ship is taking on a lot of water. I also agree with all the rest of hour posting; just not the Obama=Anti Christ part.

David| 3.30.10 @ 1:29PM

I wouldn't say that Obama is the anti-Christ. Surely he is AN anti-Christ, just as anyone who sins at points in their life, in so doing, goes against Christ.

I will say however that in Revelations it does mention the timeframes and mentions the "great kingdoms" and how they come and go.

At the end of those great kingdoms there is one final world power mentioned that "must rule for a short time"-and this is separate from the 1,000 years of Satan's freedom over the earth.

It would not surprise me at all to have the United States be that last power that "rules for a short time".

Jeffrey| 3.30.10 @ 9:52AM

Maggie, you might have a good grasp of the situation in that you understand that Obama has hoodwinked America, but your twist on biblical prophecy will ensure that you and people who support you are never taken seriously. It's sad, really....because if you leave out all the biblical crap, you'd find that you'd be taken more seriously.

fredric montfort| 3.29.10 @ 9:25AM

To paraphrase from "A concise history of the Russian Revolution", The theorists and architects of Obama/Pelosi/Reid Care have only a nodding aquaintance with the dicipline of economics and none whatever with business management. Their knowledge of the subject derived exclusively from the reading of socialist literature. Not one of them had run an enterprise or earned a dollar from manufacture or trade. This inexperience gave their imagination unlimited scope. That such rank amateurs would undertake to turn upside down the economy of tens of millions, subjecting it to innovations never attempted anywhere even on a small scale, says something of the judgment of the people who seized power in January 2009.

Julianne Wiley| 3.29.10 @ 9:37AM

What I don't understand:

The real costs of the New Rube Goldberg Health Care Machine are now coming out. Corporations are required to disclose liabilities, right? So everybody from heavy manufacturers (Caterpillar) to telephone/digital providers (AT&T) are announcing write-downs of $100 million, a billion, vaporized by exploding insurance costs.

It didn’t take them by surprise. They all knew this was going to happen long ago, when the bill was first proposed.

When it's all accounted for, it adds up to many bajillions or even gadzillions of dollars, or, turning to the precise terms used by economists, a whole schmitt-load of money. All this will have huge negative impacts on investments and credit, choking off business expansion and new-job creation for a long time to come.

Is that about right so far?

So why weren't they educating the public and fighting like hell before the Dem bill was passed?

Why are we NOW hearing about the huge cost to our private sector, when we should have been hearing about it 13 months ago? --- when they could have helped mobilize people to stop the Dem bill?

Is American business refusing to fight for its own survival – and ours?

That's my question.

Bill| 3.29.10 @ 10:10AM

The Medical Industry has become the new Military Industrial Complex that President Eisenhower warned about in his farewell speech. Very curious how everyone in big business just rolled over and let this happen - much of the talk was about surgeries and the like - very few mentioned that the biggest expense in any medical plan is for prescription meds - add 30 million more people to the mix and if you think costs will go down your a moron...Insurance companies, Drug Manufactures, and the CVS's of the world just got much bigger and gained much more power - when Obama and his minions were making them out to be the bad guys - they were feeding them steroids with the other hand.

Ken (Old Texican)| 3.29.10 @ 10:37AM

Julianne,
A splendid question. I think I can help. As a corporate CEO of a public company, there are many things, I must disclose as you will read here.

On the other hand, there are many things I CANNOT disclose until the proper time. In this case, had any of these companies "disclosed" the actual costs involved BEFORE the bill was signed into law, then any little scumbag communist, (pardon the shorthand), could have merely changed a jot or tiddle, and then prosecuted the company for "fear mongering"...(yelling "fire" in a crowded theatre.)

He's following a tactic of the progressive manifesto, Saul Alinsky's Rules for Radicals (demonize your opposition and "Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, polarize it.") See: www.vcn.bc.ca/citizens-handbook/rules.html. This is just a tactical means of effecting the Cloward-Piven Strategy to use crisis to effect change -- change toward collapsing the system -- our economic system. (See www.cloward-piven.com). We were forewarned. Many listened and heeded the warning; most did not. Spread the word and take a page from the progressives' tactics: Join in a "get out the vote" effort for conservatives/tea partiers this fall. Sign them up and bring them to the polls in November!

greg| 4.1.10 @ 2:28PM

What is encouraging to see, is that the Tea Party movement is, though perhaps not consciously, using many of the Rules for Radicals tactics themselves -- even more effectively. Think about how many times ridicule and grass-roots protest have been used to goad Obama into reacting, changing course and being pushed into a defensive mode. Liberty-loving Americans of all backgrounds need to ramp it up and keep it up.

Diane| 3.29.10 @ 4:42PM

Are you kidding me?? Have you had your head in the sand? There were many objections to the cost of this scheme but the administration and the main stream media brushed the complaints off as disgruntled conservatives whining with no "real" alternatives.

"So why weren't they educating the public and fighting like hell before the Dem bill was passed? "

You mean, like, spend large volumes of corporate money to make an essentially political p0int about a disastrous government policy?
Until just a few months ago, that was actually illegal. They may not have had time to catch up, to develop that capability, to hire those copywriters and make those media deals. I'm just guessing.
I also guess they'll learn this stuff pretty quickly NOW.

Houston Rao| 3.29.10 @ 9:51AM

The utter ignorance and stupidity of the Obama administration and the Dems is astounding.

These companies have a regulation from the SEC that requires them to publicly disclose any material changes in costs and risks in their business resulting from changed conditions including new laws. If they don't disclose it, they can be accused for fraud. If they do disclose it, then they get the Obama thugs descending on them.

When they appear in front of that committee, I hope they have the halls to simply state that they are following government SEC regulations and their estimates are in good faith to provide the disclosure required by SEC regulations. If they have had their auditors review the estimate, they can point to that. They are simply following the law and disclosing the information they are required to by law. They should not get into a discussion about how they arrived at this information; after all Congress does not interrogate them on all other disclosures they make.

davelnaf| 3.29.10 @ 9:54AM

Americans were conned by Obama and company in November ’08 and that is something you get away with just once on a scale of this magnitude. And having gotten away with that con they hope that people now buy into their healthcare con. If these people weren’t so destructive they would be entertaining.

They believe Obama is hostile to industry, especially Japanese industries located in the U.S., like Toyota. It is not their culture to speak openly about this, but it will reveal itself. Oh well, we just "don't get it". The Obamaciles do not understand the words "cost", "business", and "balance sheet", nor do they want to. Why do I get this feeling that Social Security "Reform" is next.

Not the Bush (or Republican/Conservative) variety, but a seize the IRA's and 401k's and put them into Social Security fund (now broke) and call it ---Reform variety! Hey you Conservatives wanted "reform"---now you're screaming?

Enter media applauding said "reform" and calling everyone racist who just had their money confiscated.

The money will then go to its "rightful" owners and we will be told to shut up. Then when we retire we will get what they think we should get. Which won't be much. Probably nothing because the "rightful" owners will have squandered everything on big screen TV's, cars, and fillet Mignon.
Then when the money has run out, start rioting.

We've seen this before and it ends the same way. If you have no passion in life, you can't live life. I'd like to know how many people on welfare have "passion"?

I grew up around welfare (not me, neighbors). I can answer that. Zero point Zero.

Jeffrey| 3.30.10 @ 10:12AM

No, SS reform will come, but next up is immigration (read amnesty). Now that Obamacare is "free", there is no reason not to cover those who are coming here illegally, right?

Please note the sarcasm...

Feel free to change the law and encourage lying on SEC filings when a lie will make the Democrats look better if you want; but under the existing laws they either tell the truth or face some pretty serious penalties.

We could argue all day over whether or not the monster in the White House is the anti-christ. I don't think he is THE anti-christ (not of jewish decent) but most of us can see that he is AN anti-christ. Anyone who opposes the Lord as does this fool is an anti-christ.

Margie| 3.29.10 @ 10:13PM

Agreed. Small a anti-Christ, no question as he is obviously opposed to Him and His followers.

Believers know what the Bible says as far as the Anti-Christ though and it says God is going to reveal who it is to us so for an individual to go on a blog proclaiming Obama is the Anti-Christ begs the question, really? How come you're the only one who knows this?
It's not for real to say the least.

Jeffrey| 3.30.10 @ 10:16AM

I guess that I'm an "anti-christ" as well...LMAO

Christianity does not have sole rights to being moral...or even good...

RAMIII| 3.30.10 @ 12:51PM

Actually Jeffrey, Jesus Himself made that claim by saying: I am the Way, the Truth and the Life, NO ONE comes to the Father (God) except through Me.

Before you reject this outright, please carefully research the resurrection of Jesus. I understand your cynicism, but after all something must be absolutely true and the foundation of morality. If not Jesus Christ, then who or what?

Jeremiah| 3.30.10 @ 2:55PM

Odin| 3.30.10 @ 10:36PM

People who believe in the existence of "the Lord" without any credible evidence probably shouldn't call anyone else a "fool."

Did I mention that Heather Locklear loves me? Like you, I don't have any credible evidence for my belief, but my assertion is less ludicrous than yours cuz at least I've got credible evidence Heather exists.

The Bible says you should shut up now.

Last night on O'Reilly, our favorite Nigger Al, smoke em if you got em, Sharpton, said he had seen the tape in Washington where the Tea Party called the black members Niggers. Well my friend if the shoe fits wear it.
All this b.s. about race. I am 72 today, never went to school with a black, grew up in Louisiana and chased down plantation niggers for money for a finace company when I started working......They would lie to you then as now. Then to top it off, they call each other Nigga all the time. But if we
do it we are race mongers..... Well, call me a race
manger, because I will call them Niggers till I die.
Now listen up, the way to get the government to listen to the people and stop spending is to close the faucet. Get together and stop paying federal taxes, I say they will stop when the money runs out. As for Osama Obama, expose him for what he is a lying Nigger. Call Nose Waxman and tell him to start impeachment proceedings against him like he did to Bush on a weekly basis.....

One thing that the health care bill shows is that we should require a passing grade in an introductory accounting course as a prerequisite for anyone seeking elected office.

The simple truth is that Reid, Pelosi, Obama, Frank, and the rest of the clowns who pushed this bill down our throats can't do the math.

All true, but neither Obama nor George Bush are qualified to run a fortune 1000 company. The Americans who are fed up with government are not only reacting (yes, we're reactionaries) to Obama, but to ten years of bipartisan big government.

I don't know how we're going to sort it out, with both parties pretty deep into the Washington trough, and third parties a pipe dream, but, as they say in the Midwest, that's where we're at.

The Europeans were not fond of Bush either. And I'm saying that politely because it's Holy Week.

Obam stated what he was after before he was elected. He said, "America is the greatest country in the world, it is time for a change...".

It is sad that most of the idiot voters will vote their representatives and congressmen back into office just as they have in the past. Kennedy, Pelosi, Byrd, etc, etc, have been brought back time after time over the years. Massachusetts only voted for someone new because Kennedy died.

History has shown that each state's voters expects the other states to bite the bullet and bring in an unknown... after all, my politician brings in all sorts of goodies, a new guy may not be able to....

It is going to take a whole lot of courage to clean these clowns out of office, I hope the population can muster that courage en-mass, at least this time...

…million in the first year alone. AT&T put its cost at $1 billion. With polls showing a solid majority of Americans think passage of ObamaCare was a bad thing, the White House can’t take this  lying down. “These are Republican CEOs who are trying to embarrass the President and Democrats in general,” says a White House legislative affairs staffer. “Where do you hear about this stuff? I wish the Republicans would do a better job of educating - and come up with some outstanding candidates. I know we have some - Michele Bachman from Minnesota and Mike Rogers from Michigan, among others. (I hope neither one is a lawyer - we desperately need business people!)

Karen| 4.7.10 @ 9:26PM

Oops - sorry! Bachmann has 2 n's.

Truthfairy| 4.8.10 @ 12:41AM

Great! It will make up for the trillions the 25% largest US companies (like Exxon, GM) have NOT paid in corporate taxes over the last decade, leaving the little middle-class taxpayer to carry their burden.

Karen| 4.8.10 @ 10:44AM

Aw, come on - nobody's perfect. You're talking about a few really big companies - out of the thousands of companies who do things the way they're supposed to. But okay, who then? Farmers would be good. Teachers, too, I suppose, as long as they were history or economics professors . . .

No Vote For BO| 4.10.10 @ 10:24AM

Above, someone asked if anyone knew someone who voted for BO. I do! He' s crack smoking, lazy, irresponsible, ignorant, iPod listening, young, hypocritical, uninformed, apathetic, moronic, oblivious, self-absorbed, foolish, MSNBC hooked, inane Chris Matthews-like, insane, drug addicted, welfare receiving, useless, arrogant, insipid, self-centered, tunnel visioned, deadhead, idiotic, Marxist, mooching, genetic mutant, lowlife.

Tattoo kits can help you make the kind of money you always wanted as a tattoo artist. There are many different venues to make money doing tattoos, working for someone else, as well as doing them on your own. There are many different things that are involved with self employed artists, and it can be a struggle. There are many different legal, and health issues that you have to deal with, as well as the licensing, and insurance.

MKV to iPad | 11.15.10 @ 8:40AM

MKV to iPad is the best solution to sharing MKV files on iPad. As we know, the newly developed iPad can only surport MP4 format, so if you want to play MKV video on iPad, you have to convert MKV to iPad with an additional software. My personal recommendation is to use this MKV to iPad Converter. The biggest difference between this all-in-one MKV to iPad and other similar ones is that it can not onvert general video format to iPad, but can also convert HD video to iPad for sharing high-defination video everywhere mobile movie theater.
