Is the tea party over? Are they folding up the homey
red-and-white tablecloths, dumping the last of the cucumber
sandwiches in the incinerator? Is that a packet of Splenda
sitting in a little puddle near a table leg, angled just out of
eyeshot of the bustling busboys? Because that’s what I’m hearing
from a lot of dispirited types. They fought the good fight and
now they’re looking for a good flight home. They are ready to
swallow taxation with misrepresentation, belief you can change
in, peace with dishonor, antisocialized medicine, health care
deform, the whole bloody package.
What of repeal? Nah, they say. What’s passed is past. Once
the bill is signed it is time to forge a new direction. Voters
will slap the face of politicians who are too
froward.
You can’t approach the general election fighting the last war.
The bell of history peals but once, it does not re-peal. There is
a tide in the affairs of men, and all that, but once the slings
and arrows of outrageous fortune honor us in the breeches more
than in our observations to be or not to be is a moot question
and the dog will have had its day. Yes, the Shakespearean phrases
always show up in defeat as losers reach for dignity by waxing
literary.
Not I. In this instance I am a believer in the
morning-after pill. When they say to me, “RU-486?” I reply, “You
bet I am for 86ing this miserable creation.” And while it is true
that repeal usually is a forlorn strategy, a quick exotic way to
be written off as quixotic, this time is different for a variety
of reasons.
THE KEY ELEMENT here is continuity. The path to victory for
constitutionalist candidates must travel a straight line from the
moment of this revolutionary legislation. If this cannot be
established as bad history, it acquires the panache of history,
which over time gives it the presumption of good history. Even
Genghis Khan sounds kind of cute after awhile if we don’t keep
reminding about his body count.
All the pomp surrounding this historic foray must be
countered contemporaneously. This is ill-conceived, ill-timed,
ill-executed and will yield no benefit. Conservative politicians
who stood united against passage and who press relentlessly for
repeal will reinforce this narrative. The bad guys came and tried
to steal our freedoms but the good guys scraped to get them back.
The path of most resistance can be the path to victory.
This uninterrupted trajectory can carry all the way to
victory in 2012. The steps are simple: run the Congressional
races in 2010 promising repeal. If one house of Congress is won,
pass a repeal law out of that house to be blocked by the other.
If both houses are won, send the repeal to the President for his
veto. Once that happens, the stage is set for 2012 to elect a
President who will sign the repeal. Here is a rare argument which
forces voters to give one party both houses and the Presidency to
achieve a desired result.
Additionally, all this is feasible because of the timeline.
The main features of the bill are activated in 2014. The period
between now and then will be rife with rumblings of massive
governmental entities being shifted into position. These cannot
fail to sound ominous, like the bureau being moved in the attic,
like the first shift of snow signaling the avalanche. The
likelihood that the bill will amass new adherents in the interim
will be canceled by the live repeal debate. If it is allowed to
build without opposition, it will prove worse in the prosecution
than in the inception.
Furthermore, if this battle is over then others will begin.
New and more ambitious slides into overt radicalism will visit
and make themselves comfortable, bringing ever more companions in
their wake. Yet if the battle over health care never dies then
the Democrat energies will remain preoccupied. They cannot surge
forward to capture new territory if the beachhead continues to
take fire.
So bring out another round of tea. You can try all the
arcane flavors because we expect to be here for a while. And
until the health care bill actually takes over, I think we are
still permitted to indulge in one of those lovely biscuits with
the chocolate swirls on top, if you will be good enough to pass
them down.

Exactly right Mr. Homnick! We need to step up the battle now..making it more intense than when the bill was being debated. I think that in addition to people speaking out, you will find even more who are seething silently, waiting until November to pull the plug on the Dems. The outcome of the mid term elections is going to be more than anyone can imagine. These guys and gals are toast..
Bill,from WV| 3.25.10 @ 8:15AM
Mr. Homnick,
I can assure you the Tea Party is NOT folding up tents. The membership jumped over 20% over the weekend alone.
We will continue to do what is necessary to restore the personal liberties, and the freedoms guaranteed by the Constitution.
We will continue to work to place people in positions in Washington who are TRUE fiscally c based conservatives, who believe that the Constitution is the law, and not just a piece of paper to be bypassed by politicians. Those who are for limited, FAIR taxes for all, and who will REDUCE the size of the American government.
We have learned that it does not matter that a person has a(D) or (R) behind their name we do not back EITHER political party.
We back the American people, and WE will be about the American peoples business.
Innuendos, allegations, threats and Sal Olinsky tactics will NOT deter the Movement from the mission we have undertaken.
So, Mr. Homnick,no! The Tea Party Movement has just started, you have not seen anything yet!
Roy| 3.25.10 @ 3:47PM
We have learned that it doesn't matter if someone has a D or an R? No R's voted for Obamacare. All D's in the Senate did, when a single one not doing so would have made the difference. The vast majority of D's in the House did. Hmm.
Lullaby's, Legends and Lies| 3.25.10 @ 8:21AM
Is the Tea Party over? Umm, No!! It's not even close to being over!! The only reason why you don't see them (us) out protesting somewhere everyday is? We've got jobs, and regular lives to lead, and we have responsibilities to meet, and we just can't get away to protest everyday (and this is how we've always been). It would be nice to protest everyday, but we can't!! And if I'm an average example of the "Tea Party", my anger isn't subsiding in the least, actually, I think it grows a little bit more each and every day. I'm going broke doing my part, little by little, dollar by dollar, sending money to Conservatives, running for Governor, Senate, and Congress. But who's going to need money anymore, if we let the Democrats keep running the show? It won't be worth the paper it's printed on. Alright, I've got to go, it's time to get to work!!
Shamus| 3.25.10 @ 9:30AM
If we believe the left, the tea party is like a brat throwing a tantrum when served vegetables. They're immature and they don't know what's good for them, but once they grow up they'll understand. In this narrative, voters will awaken to the realization that they were wrong to oppose legislation that serves interests.
But the proof is in the pudding, and the people who brought us the health bill were the same ones who said that spending a trillion in stimulus would keep unemployment below 8.5%. Voters will be able to demonstrate their appreciation of efforts on their behalf in the next election.
Ken (Old Texican)| 3.25.10 @ 9:31AM
Mr. Homnick
Tea-party "get togethers" are great fun and very encouraging. We get to rub shoulders and bask in the glow of heh>>>at least semi-like minded people.
BUT!
Engineering the battlefield is usually just quiet, dirty, sweaty, work.
That is what is going on these days.
Millions of patriotic Americans are on the end of a shovel now, and as we dig and sand-bag-fill, our minds are very busy. .....millions of really good minds, sir.
Strategies, tactics, timings, all of these are percolating through our thoughts as we sweat.
Tucking away "rations" in our myriad fashions is also part of our work.
As a column idea you might want to develop, may I suggest something on the order of a "Month long sit-down strike" by every American, unless their sit down would endanger somebody.
Even then they could choose to take "unpaid vacation" for as long as they could afford, (a week? two?)
This something very powerful we can do prior to November.....just to send a very LOUD message to the "takers" in government and out.
The last time I checked, it is still not against the law to "take a few days off without pay....or deferred pay."
Thoughts?
Melvin| 3.25.10 @ 9:49AM
Ken, we could play the game of wedge the government between the Chinese bankers.
The government lives a hand to mouth existence. There is no financial cushion any more. I have begun to wonder if there was ever one.
But anyway, even the smallest loss of productivity would be somewhat disastorous for Uncle Barrack.
But, the kicker is, we as a nation of employers and employees have to be united in this action. If not they'll just pick us off like knats.
Many Americans want something to happen right now, right away. Something like this isn't like pulling up to the drive up window.
It takes building a infrastructure so we don't go off half-cocked like some would like to do.
John Navratil| 3.26.10 @ 11:48AM
What about economic succession? Same thing you suggest, but at the state level.
The egg is scrambled and will be difficult to unscramble, but the tyranny is only possible because of the economic entagling of state and federal budgets.
Take, for example, highway funds; a fund used to bludgeon the states into all sorts of things from raising the drinking age, to mandatory seat belt use. It's funded by the gasoline tax. Why are we, in Texas, not as empowered to say to the "fed" that you can come down here to collect your gasoline tax, but we will not?
If the 10th amendment is to mean anything, it needs to be asserted. Unfortunately, I tried to call Greg Abott's office to make this suggestion in the event that the lawsuit he has joined fails, and was told that they were too busy answering phones to listen to me. Not very encouraging.

And just who is going to lead the repeal effort? We are already (just a couple of days in) seeing various Republican nancy men in the Senate backing off, assuming the tea partiers have nowhere else to go but back to the old corrupt republicrats. I have always opposed third party movements, but the stupid party refuses to reform itself even as the evil party drives us ever closer to socialist dystopia. If we are relying on the current crop of Republican leaders (whether McConnell or Boehner), we are staking our future on a very thin reed indeed. In this primary season I would suggest voters demand to know if Republican candidates will vote to continue current leadership or pledge to replace it with true conservatives. And whether that candidate will pledge to repeal the health care bill (or at least defund all aspects of it, which may be more possible while Obama lurks in office). The health care bill is the game. It is not yet lost, due to the delayed implementation schedule. But there will have to be more political courage and effective tactics among the stupid party leaders if we are to act in time to take back our country from the statists.

Tea parties.
Over last weekend, we got a good view of what too many tea baggers are about - bigotry, violence and self-centered greed.
These poorly informed, deluded individuals fancy themselves patriots. They are thinking of the American Revolution when they are really talking about the American Civil War.
When they vandalize Democrats' headquarters, whose property do they think they are vandalizing? Some foreign governments? No, they are vandalizing the property of their fellow citizens.
When they speak about "locking and loading" who do they think they are going to be shooting? Some foreigner? They will be shooting their fellow citizens.
Do they think their fellow citizens won't shoot back? Do Sarah Palin, Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, Michelle Bachmann and other instigators of the so called "revolution" think they will be safe in the uncivil society they are working so hard to create?
This is insanity.
WM| 3.25.10 @ 10:59AM
It is impossible for me to feel sorry for your Demonrat Congresscritters, because they passed a law which will coerce the health care sector, resulting in decreased medical innovation and availability, which will result in people dying sooner than they otherwise would, and which will decrease the quality of patients' lives, despite all your vacuous propaganda to the contrary. In addition, many people in the health care sector will lose their jobs, and the dreams many have for their professional lives will be destroyed. The reality is that innocent Americans will suffer or die because of this bill, unless it is blocked, repealed, or thrown out. Your Demonrats are taking lives, literally and figuratively, so if any of them have to pay with theirs, it is simply a case of poetic justice. Not that I am advocating violence. That's only because I wouldn't want any good American to get caught and have to go to jail for it, and I think block and repeal or overthrow will happen.

..."instigators of the so called "revolution" think they will be safe in the uncivil society they are working so hard to create? " This is your opinion. The persons you named seek to maintain the Constitution and the governments adherence to it. That is neither revolutionary nor uncivil. Your side is every bit as hyperbolic and uncivil as you claim the Tea Partiers of being. Remember all the leftist Bush-Hitler iconography etc etc? Talk about uncivil. LOL

How many conservatives, besides me, had never even heard the term, "tea-baggers" until Dems like Mike started throwing it around last year? I'm still not completely sure of what it means, I just know I'm so disgusted and repulsed by it that I don't want to hear the complete definition.
So Mike, how come YOU seem to be so intimately familiar with "tea-baggers"?
John Navratil| 3.26.10 @ 11:57AM
Who are "they"? A brick through a window is a good indication that someone disagrees with your position and the timing suggests that it is related to the health care bill. But recall the brick attach on a Dem party office (in Austin? or Colorado?) which was done by a dis-affected Dem.
There is no shortage of people at either end who will engage in this sort of thing (eco-terrorists at car lots, e.g.) but you paint with a big brush when you tar the "Tea party" with your BS.
The insanity is a Congress dominated by Dems pushing a bill against the will of the people and not expected to get them all "wee-wee-ed" up. The uncivil society you decry is not a creation of the "tea parties". The "tea parties" are a creation of an government which does not have the consent of the governed.

This was an answer I posted on another blog to another liberal looser, who was attacking the tea Party with the old hate and vitriol.
So since you are ALL the same just insert your name in place of hers!
Where was YOUR concern on rage and violence, when a man selling flags at a Tea Party event was severly beaten and hospitalized by SEIU thugs? I can send you the video.
Vitriol and Hate ?
Where was your concern over threats, when Rep.Stupak and his family were threatened an their lives,"made hell" his quote, by liberals in the weeks prior to the vote?
Vitriol and Hate ?
Where was your concern for racism and innuendo, when Pelosi and Reid called Americans ,nazis, racist and extremists last summer!
Vitriol and Hate ?
Faceless accusations, unknown callers leaving voices on answering machines? With technology today they know exactly who made those calls, but will America ever be told? No! You figure out why!
These incidents are no more than pages right out of the liberal's playbook.Sal Olinsky's "Rules for Radicals". When confronting your opponent use defamation, accusations, innuendo anything to destroy them personally and professionally.
I'm here to tell you LENORE, the game is up. We are fully aware who we are dealing with and what it will take to confront and defeat them.
If Nancy Pelosi,Steny Hoyer ,and the rest of the Democratic thugs think that such efforts will diminish the Tea Party Movement they are seriously mistaken, and starting in November they will begin to find out.
But ,since I believe that everyone should learn one thing a day LENORE, I am going to help you out.
The Healthcare Reform bill is merely a symptom of the disease which is destroying America. The disease are those who are taking away our personal liberties and protections under the Constitution. The disease are those who ignore the Constitution, and "make up laws as we go!" The disease are those who destroy our nation by continuing to kill our economic base through reckless spending. The disease are those who work back room deals and promises to accomplish their socialist goals. The disease are the 75 members of the House who are members of the American Socialist Movement. The disease are the politicians who have forgotten that, they are there to serve, not save the American people.
LENORE.....It is the disease that the Tea Party and many others are going to cure America of starting in November. We are a Constitutional Republic,we are NOT a Democracy as Iran and Venezuela as much as you and the rest of the liberal would hope to make it.

I am not aware of any "folding up the chairs" problem on the right. There are a few hang-wringing Libertarians, but that is what they always do. What has been absolutely phenomenal is the consensus among all factions on the right that repeal is a necessity and a near-inevitability. William Kristol has insisted on total repeal, with repeal bills offered every year to keep the issue salient. The NRO is adamant--"Repeal Means Repeal." The regular columnists on mainsteam conservative sites like Townhall are all in agreement. Objectivists have activated for total repeal. Right-wing columnists in other newspaper are advocating the repeal movement. The Tea Party wants total repeal. Not to mention The American Spectator, Newsmax, and other conservative journals. I really don't see any debate about it, except from anti-conservative liberal Republicans like David Frum and a few not-clued-in junior members of Congress who are being "educated" as we speak. McConnell was forced to change his vague tune and support repeal, and he is lazy, so that gives you an idea of the power of the movement.
Total repeal is a go.

What of the Tea Party? By all appearences the movement is evoling into a non-compliance mode. Various local organs and several of the unconnected national groups as well are moving toward a position of simple resistance.
What the results of that position may be will only emerge as the implications of this health bill and the upcoming immigration, cap and trade, gun control, etc. bills become evident. What price we as individuals may have to pay for Liberty is unknown but likely to be high. With IRS enforcement of the financial provisions a condition of tyranny will settle in.
The Declaration specifies one of the abuses King George imposed was agents ekeing out the substance of the people. Is history about to repeat? We need to view these emergent conditions through the eyes of those who, like John Adams experienced them before. It was he who wrote, "...every individual has his rights of which the nation cannot deprive him except by violence and an unlawful use of the General Power." How we respond will determine the future of our nation and the lives of our grandchildren. Let us all hope we have the courage.

I will assure you that the Tea Party is not closing up shop to be a meager,mille-mouthed resistance watch dog.
What is coming this summer and fall will be greater than America has yet seen!
We hope liberals keep up with their self delusion.
You see they still have not gotten the message, what you saw in DC last summer was not ALL the Tea Party members, they were just the tip of the spear!
Liberals can't get their arms around a group having control of millions of votes, yet no defined leadership!
They consider that lack of leadership a weakness,we consider it strength.
They can call us nazis.extremists, radicals anything they want. What we all are going to do in November is vote. And the political fallout will be felt until November of 2012. Because as a result of Novembers elections the Movement will grow and grow and grow!
And we appreciate their help with that!

I agree with Ken (Old Texican). Millions of conservatives are thinking about the best way to block this socialist takeover of our country; it takes time to respond to something of this magnitude. Conservatives and Libertarians have to learn to pull together without a lot of infighting. Save the invective and insults for our socialist opposition.

Hold it right there, Mike.
Unless you have irrefutable proof that the perpetuators of whatever despicable acts of vandalism, bigotry and greed you so casually accuse people of are truly tea party members, it is best to not to malign anyone or any group in the above manner.
Simply because some people say so and the mainstream media parrot it without bothering to double check the incident(s) should include the use of the word "alleged".
We both agree on one thing - it is insanity.
To say Obamacare is the equal of the Civil Rights bill and create the impression that white people are trying to suppress the healthcare "rights" of blacks or other races.
I digress, but don't ask me why any patriotic person would start a fire like that - unless those people want to create irreparable divisions in the United States. Perhaps, they want to replicate what happened to the many countries that used to make up USSR?

From a meeting with a client;
Had a meeting with _______ yesterday. After the meeting we spoke about the new Healthcare bill, and its impact on his business. It was a very enlightening conversation. I did some follow-up.
Please watch the CEO of one our most important clients (Stryker) speak to this on CNBC in the following link:
http://www.mlive.com/business/.....macmi.html
Some very important points from ____ on this that correlate to Stephen MacMillan’s comments:
1. Of the 8000 medical device mfg companies in the US, he said that thousands of them will be underwater almost immediately. In Terumo’s case, if the law was in force now, their cardio division would’ve gone from a $4 million profit this last year to a $4.6 million loss. Why? Because the tax is on revenue and not profit. He said this will cost Stryker approx. $250 million dollars!
2. Mfgs will reduce R&D spending (read growth) as they won’t have the money to do it because a) of the tax mentioned in #1 and b) because of the caps that hospitals will now place on how much they will pay for a device
3. Not only will mfg’s close their doors, but many of them will refocus on overseas. Many will move overseas and focus their sales efforts there.
4. This will likely drive a lot of consolidation in the industry as the smaller mom and pops will not be able to survive.
Evidence of some of _____’s points are included in this other article I found.
http://www.bostonherald.com/bu.....ition=also
Regardless of what you think of the change politically, we need to be aware of the change this will cause in one of our most important verticals for ______.
Could this potentially be good for us? We can look at it that way in that companies will need to be more competitive than they are today. Run leaner, etc. If we can convince them to make the investment now so they are ready for 2013, we could win.
It is also possible that it could drive some of our opportunity pool out though (e.g. - fewer companies to target), and drive them to be much more conservative with their cash.
Scott| 3.25.10 @ 1:39PM
Yawn. By 2012, do you really think the majority of the American voting public (50-6oM people) will be so downtrodden and angry they will vote for that platform? It could probably get 35%, but most people, 2 1/2 years from now are going to think of it as history, their lives won't be really impacted by it, and the liberal base will be satisfied.
The next election is going to be all about the condition of the economy. If it improves and there is job growth, Obama will win re-election. If it doesn't, he will loose. The 35% of the country that is really "Angry" about this bill are never going to vote for him anyway, and he knows that.
How are you going to get the extra 15%+1? Its not going to be on a platform that the author is advocating.
