A deep dislike of process and substance.
If Congressional Democrats think that Americans don’t like the health care bill it’s leadership has put together or the process it’s using to push it into law, guess what? They’re right and their leadership is wrong.
A national survey sponsored by Center for Medicine in the Public Interest-Advance in partnership with Pajamas Media and conducted just this week by the Roper organization shows 60 percent of all Americans regard as unfair the current Democrat proposal to “deem” the Senate health care bill as passed and sending it to the President without voting up or down on it. (Click here for poll results.)
Democrat leaders are telling them that the only thing that matters is passing the bill. Majority Leader Steny Hoyer told a group of reporters, “Do you think any American is going to make the distinction” between the process and substance of the bill? I don’t think that any American … any real American out there will make the distinction between the two.” The poll sends a message to Mr. Hoyer: Americans know the difference between process and substance. A supermajority believes that using the so-called “deeming” process is undemocratic. And 80 percent of all Americans surveyed reject the core elements of the Democrat health bill.
Ironically, Hoyer is correct when he says: “…in the final analysis what is interesting to the American public is what this bill do for them and their families to make their lives more secure.” However, the poll provides no evidence that Democrats will benefit from healthcare reform once enacted. Other surveys show broad support for features of the legislation such as insuring people with pre-existing conditions and the elimination of caps on coverage limits. Our poll also asked voters about other specific elements of the proposed legislation. We found that overwhelming majorities opposed key elements:
Eighty percent oppose increasing taxes and cutting Medicare to provide tax breaks and subsidies for people who already have insurance.
Eighty-one percent oppose charging healthy and younger people higher premiums to subsidize people who, under the bill, can wait until they are sick to buy insurance.
Nearly 90 percent (87 percent) oppose the creation of Independent Healthcare Payment Advisory Commissions that set limits on future access to care and the authority government will have to determine and what kind of health plans the uninsured can have.
We also asked people about proposals to make health insurance more affordable and approaches to promote better health that are not central elements of the current bill. These include proposals to buy plans that reward healthy behavior, encourage saving and investing for future health needs, and reward future treatments and cures instead of taxing them. Strikingly, voters support these alternatives as strongly as they oppose the main elements of the Democrat health bill.
By a wide margin of almost 84 percent, Americans support reforms that would allow people to buy health insurance where it is the least expensive, such as across state lines. Nearly 80 percent of Americans support health care reforms that would let people buy less costly health plans and save and invest for health care needs in the future on a tax-free basis while 84% would support health care reforms that would let people get lower premiums for getting or staying healthy.
Finally when it comes to reduce costs long term, Americans see innovation more favorably than government regulation or taxes. The national poll also found that most Americans do not support increasing Medicare payroll taxes for the high wage earners (46% support, 47% oppose) or reducing what doctors and hospitals are paid for their services (45% support, 48% oppose). By contrast, 8 in 10 Americans support the idea that more money should be invested in the development of cures for the most devastating diseases.
These findings are the most up-to-date and comprehensive measurement of public opinion on health care policy. They should remind our national leaders that the public is a lot smarter and cares more about our democratic institutions than they arrogantly give us credit for. And it shows that the public does not support the proposed bill in total or many of its parts. In particular, the public knows what the legislation will do and does not believe, by huge margins, that government should be raising taxes, cutting Medicare, subsidizing people with insurance, or regulating access to care.
At the same time the poll shows that people do support reforms, though not those included in the bill being sent to the President without a vote. The public’s view is summed up by something Ronald Reagan said: Government does not solve problems; it subsidizes them. To the extent that the substance and process of healthcare reform violate this credo, legislators who support both do so without regard to the will or wishes of the American people.

Here is a point that should be made over and over again to voters: " Health Care reform that the Socialist Democrat Party is trying to force us into is not about health and care at all.
'It is about their poitical domination in power. So are cap and trade and immigration reform.
Bill Hussein O'Stalin| 3.18.10 @ 7:52AM
The health care bill is nothing but a sleazy attempt to give away health care to illegal aliens and have working American citizens pay for it.
It includes the added bonus of expanding government authority and destroying 1/6th of the economy in one fell swoop.
That's all it ever was about.
Next? The auto industry, which has already been crippled, and the housing industry.
Once you are guaranteed health care, it will be easy to convince everyone that they should be given everything for free.

I had a dipute with my superiors at work, and was forced out, and told that I quit, and was not dismissed. As a result, I've been denied unemployment.
(bear with me, there is a point to this)
After some thought, I decided to contact a lawyer, to see if my grievances were worth addressing. However, upon looking online, and in the phone book, (how quaint that sounds today) I could not find anyone interested in the type of case I described.
I found plenty of ambulance chasers, DUI specialists, criminal attorney's, but damn few labor lawyers. Those that I did find, worked for those types of which would be my opponents: Large companies.
The one attorney that gave me any advice, refused to take the case, but warned me that those who would, probably work both sides of the fence.
Now, let's put this into perspective, as it relates to healthcare in the future, should this "Obamination" become the law of the land.
This is what it will be like to find elective surgery, even if you want to pay cash for it. The doctor will be too scared of the consequences, and will furtively reccomend someone to go see in the dark of night, sshhsshhhshh!
Yet the legal profession is in no danger of any kind of government intervention, tort reform, or otherwise. They just won't take a case like I described, because there probably isn't enough money in it.
Which of the two of these occupations are in more need of reform?
98horn| 3.18.10 @ 3:00PM
Are you willing to pay an hourly rate? If so, I'm sure there are thousands of lawyers willing to take your case. They probably just won't take it on contingency. Nobody likes to work for free.

I'd send that lovely picture TAS posted of Steny Hoyer to the soon to be unemployed former member of congress.
Steny needs a real job; as I suggested in another TAS article. Steny can use this photo for his "employee of the month" at Home Depot. Same applies to you fence sitting "moderate" Ds. Pelosi will be one of the few Ds left; I don't think San Fran has enough Home Depots to employ all of you, besides, the queen will no longer have use of her tax payer funded 727, so I guess you all will have to walk to work.
Oh, more bad news, if you're counting on Obama for help, in case you've forgotten, CT voters dumped Chris Dodd, he has first dibs on the ambassadorship to Ireland, that leaves airport security for the rest of you.

I have said many times before but its worth repeating over and over.
This Corruption filled politics that has been on display for millions of Americans to see is a rude awaking for some folks but it has been routine in most Union Halls for the past 30 years.
Now that Obama and his Andy Stern(SEIU) type Czars from Chicago are in Charge it has crystalized before the Nation and some seemed shocked at what they are seeing.
There is "Politics as Usual" with corruptive influences with a small c and then there is what we are seeing now Union Type Corruption....Corruption with a big C.
I think even a kid of ten could figure what is worse and I really hope that the voting age folks will remember what they are seeing now and remedy the probl;em in 2010 and 2012.

Why is it the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) did not discover the incredible savings of eliminating the Medicare Advantage plans, until now? Numerous legislative pieces have been vetted by CBO over the past year or more. Still, no monumental savings were discovered.
Methinks the "savings" are not really there & methinks our congressional leaders (sic) are about to get caught telling even more 'lies.'
The smug condescension assuming Americans do not care how it gets done nor truly understand such complex issues, is beyond contemptible. Such hubris is what caused the people to vote Republicans out previously.
Add plans to take control of our daily lives into the mix, and smaller government alternatives look better & better every day!

"What country ever existed a century and a half without a rebellion? And what country can preserve it's liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. . . The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants. " Thomas Jefferson
While violence is not the answer making the lives of Democrats miserable is a legitimate means of resistance. How many remember corrupt and sleazy Chicago Democrat Dan Rostenkowski being chased by an angry mob of seniors through the streets of his district? The New York Times observed in a 2002 article, "the television images of Mr. Rostenkowski under assault struck fear in the hearts of politicians that remains to this day. Few want to be pitted against older people on issues involving Medicare. 'Politicians were traumatized by the Rostenkowski episode and they remain traumatized,' said Henry J. Aaron, a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution." Wouldn't it be delicious to see botoxed Nancy confronted by an angry gathering of seniors? I would love to see the meltdown as they confront the living mannequin. How about Harry Reid's homes and offices being picketed by ordinary Americans demanding his resignation? What would be wrong with tens of thousands of Americans shutting down business as usual in Washington, DC with rally after rally demanding the impeachment and removal of Barack Obama for attempting to cover up bribes made to Sestak, Romanoff, Jim Matheson and the other sleaze balls that get White House jobs and appointments for their votes?

Alert! Tell Washington that the pro-amnesty rally does not represent you... or most Americans!
This weekend will be a historical turning point in the illegal alien occupation of our country. We as Americans can stand back disinterested and watch, or do the right thing for 15 million US jobless labor force that is climbing to new heights? ITS INCORRIGIBLE that our President-Senate-House would try to pass a suspect CIR (AMNESTY) when Americans are hurting. Legal residents who entered the country through the main gate and didn't slither through the darkness past the under manned personnel of the US Border Patrol, should also join our ranks.. This weekend thousands of foreign nationals who are demanding rights to live here, when in the first place they cheated THE PEOPLE'S sovereign laws. They are being bussed to Washington, paid for parasite wealthy corporate owners, faith organizations, scab unions, so called non-profit foundations. BUT WE HAVE A RIGHT AS AMERICANS, TO LOBBY OUR LEGISLATORS. In addition Patriotic Americans are going to jam the switchboards at 202-224-3121. YOU CAN TOO?
Numbersusa. dot.com needs your--URGENT--assistance, whether you are member of the million citizen or resident plus pro-sovereignty anti-illegal immigrant organization. Remember this is a prelude to President Obama's Amnesty, that you will end up paying for as a taxpayer? Billions of your dollars will be committed from your paycheck to pay for processing these people, unifying their family members and the next rush to the borders or airlines, for expecting a third future amnesty. You will not only be squeezed for more money to pay for there health care, for their crippled and sick, but education for there children and incarceration of the criminal element, which has soared. With the legitimized settlement of at least 20 to 30 thousand, that will easily expand to 60 million more as families will be able to join those already here. THIS WILL BE THE BEGINNING OF UNSUSTAINABLE POPULATION GROWTH. THEN THEIR ARE THOSE POOR, DESPERATE, DESTITUTE WHO WILL TRY TO REACH OUR NATION, BEFORE THE NEW LAW IS SIGNED? Wonderful profit margins for businesses, but not for the US Taxpayer. Currently our schools are suffering terribly, crammed to the limit in the Sanctuary State of California. The majority of states right now are overrun by this spreading pandemic of red ink. Costing unaccountable dollars and tenuously balancing government entitlements for our own poverty stricken citizens.
NumbersUSA is mobilizing there members in assisting in stopping every amnesty since 2000, and now revving up resources to do the same this time around. Starting FRIDAY (3/19) NumbersUSA on Day 1 will be begin a nationwide effort for activists to visit Member's local Congressional offices at 1:30 p.m. EDT with a signed letter.SATURDAY (3/20) -- On Day 2, they will launch our faxing and petition campaign. When the Members return to their Washington offices, we need them to see your HUGE RESPONSE. It's also a Social Networking Day, so they want members to join them on Face book and Twitter.SUNDAY (3/21) - Day 3, the pro-amnesty organizers will host their rally on the National Mall in Washington D.C., and many anti-immigration organizations will appear there too. MONDAY (3/22) - Day 4, it's NumbersUSA National Call Campaign. The pro-amnesty supporters will be walking the halls of Congress urging Members to pass an amnesty. So It will be very important for patriotic Americans make their phone calls and have the Capitol office phones ringing incessantly during their visit. Find all this information and more at Numbersusa You can also harass your Senator at 202-224-3121. jamming the switchboards in the capitol.

It's possible the American health care needs reform, but no good reform will be ever be brought about by these Democrats.
Bud Parker| 3.21.10 @ 11:58AM
1. The Health Care Bill, currently before the Congress, is replete with violations of the Constitution. It is obviously unconstitutional for the Congress to mandate that we purchase health care! What would be next, a mandate that everyone must purchase a government bond every pay day? No, the government cannot constitutionally mandate how we are to spend our money! I believe that the Fourth Amendment would apply here.
2. This Health Care Bill also provides coverage for criminal immigrants, (illegals) which is very clearly a violation of Title 8 of the United States Code, which makes it a FELONY for ANYONE to provide assistance to criminal immigrants! And, "anyone" includes the President, the Congress, Governors, Mayors, bleeding-hearts, Republicans, democrats, and Churches; the law does not differentiate, nor does it exclude!
3. After all is said and done, this "Health Care Bill", is yet another taxpayer financed, massive government administered, WELFARE PROGRAM, where those who can afford to purchase their own health care, are made to pay for those who won't! It really is just that simple, there is nothing complicated about it; do the words "spreading the wealth" ring a bell?
4. If this Health Care abomination is passed, their next agenda item will be "amnesty." There will be a major effort to continue the momentum gained in passing this unconstitutional law, to "legalize" those 30 million criminal immigrants, who will also be covered under that health bill, so they can then off-set the vote come November! Those criminal immigrants will be "grateful" to their democrat "sponsors", and they will vote that ticket! After their "success", those democrats will be desperate to secure those votes, those votes may save them their jobs in November! Republicans should already be working against this amnesty legislation!
It has been rumored that any democrats who are defeated in November, have already been "promised" that they will be given other cushy government jobs! One Republican Senator has promised that he will see to it that that doesn't happen; he intends to put a "hold" on those jobs, hurray for him!
5. Recourse at the State Level. Number one, all of the Governors in those States where this socialist Health Care takeover is not welcomed, should immediately take action under "nullification", and refuse to implement it in their States! Contemporaneously with that, their State Attorney's General, should seek immediate recourse through the courts, because of the disparately partial "rewards" that were given some States, for "selling" their votes in Congress, to get this passed.
6. Recourse of "We the People." We need to take a page from Saul Alinsky's book, the Obama/Hillary Clinton Bible, (Rules for Radicals) and immediately organize for application of two "neighborhood organizer's" tactics, which have proven successful for their socialist creators in the past. They are: massive demonstrations of Civil Disobedience, and Passive Resistance! For example, flooding the Accident Rooms of hospitals with "injuries" such as headaches, gout attacks, indigestion, arthritis, and so on; bring the system to its knees if necessary!
7. Advice to the Republicans: LEARN TO PLAY THE GAME! Republicans are continuously bested by democrats, because democrats are better at playing the dirty game which we call "politics!" Even when the Republicans held the White House, the Senate, and the House of Representatives, they were quite often bested by the democrat "minority." The cause(s) for this were several, here are a few: bipartisanship (never works in favor of Republicans); reaching across the isle (same as bipartisanship); compromise (never won anything); too many RINO's in the Party, jettison their sorry asses! That means the likes of Lindsay Graham, John McCain, Olympia Snowe, and Susan Collins.
"We the People", need to demand that no one, NO ONE, is above the law! Congress cannot be allowed to exclude themselves from their own legislation! "We the People", also need to demand that "government" be conducted in the light of day, no locked door, smoke-filled rooms! All actions of the government, that are not directly related to National Security, must be subject to the scrutiny of the governed! Term limits are also in order, as is the elimination of "jobs for life" positions, such as those of Justice of the Supreme Court!
Remember too, "third party candidates" will help only the democrats, and must be discouraged. "We the People", must "take back" the Republican Party, in order to take back our Constitution and this Nation! There is simply no time to build a viably competitive "third party" infrastructure; even if that could be done, it would be too late!
Finally, an admonition! I wish to express my total disgust for the Supreme Court of the United States, which has "chosen" to remain silent as the Constitution is ignored, reviled, challenged, despoiled, and trampled upon, by the very government that swore to PRESERVE, DEFEND, and PROTECT it! Yes, The Court has "chosen" to remain silent, as the Constitution is incrementally being deposed, and the Nation as presently constituted, is destroyed! It is the Constitutional Duty of The Court, to demand that this government is functioning within its Constitutional Authority, both in the interest of the Nation and the Constitution, but even more importantly, in the interest of "We the People!" There is no Constitutional Mandate that The Court remain mute, while the Constitution is destroyed, none whatsoever!

It's going to be very interesting to see what develops between now and the November elections. Had they been held immediately after the Health Care Bill was passed I don't think Democrats would have stood a chance - now, 5 months and a massive oil spill later, it seems to be anyone's game....

Thanks so much for your great page, this is the stuff that keeps me awake through out these day. I've been searching around for your site after being referred to them from a buddy and was thrilled when I was able to find it after searching for some time. Being a demanding blogger, I'm glad to see others taking initivative and contributing to the community. I would like to comment to show my appreciation for your post as it is very challenging to do, and many bloggers do not get appreciation they deserve. I am sure I'll drop by again and will send some of my friends.

Healthcare is not always what we want it to be. Honestly I expected more from the current administration's program because that was what he promised when he was campaigning. Again his promise fell short. I wish that there would be better healthcare for all.

As a European I perceive healthcare as something that should be universally available and affordable to any citizen - this a model to which the US should progressively aim to achieve in the future. Perhaps I am lacking the perspective of a US citizen so I wonder how do Americans themselves perceive their healthcare compared to the European systems?
