Biden and Art of Doublespeak

Vice President Joe Biden says the Palestinians deserve a state. He has traveled to the Mideast to press the Israelis to surrender more territory more quickly to what has been termed the Palestinian Authority. The Obama administration is giving $900 million of our money to the Mahmoud Abbas regime on the West Bank of the Jordan River, supposedly for "humanitarian" causes. This administration went out of its way to avoid being seen as "meddling" with Iran, but it shows no such restraint with Israel. Meanwhile, the Palestinians go on naming schools for suicide bombers and coaching their children to emulate these bombers. But somehow they are viewed as "partners" in the mythical peace process.

The Obama administration's position is that Israelis should withdraw from the West Bank and leave the entire regions of Judea and Samaria to the Palestinians -- all in the interest of a comprehensive Mideast peace settlement. What happened when Israel did evacuate from Gaza? Hamas promptly took over.

Have President Obama, Vice President Biden or Secretary Clinton ever stopped to ask why is it in the interest of the U.S. to foster a Judenrein on the West Bank? That terrible word -- which comes to us from the time of the Holocaust -- means a region cleared of Jews. We need to understand that Jews have lived in this region since biblical times. If Jews have no right to live in Judea and Samaria, why do they have a right to live in Tel Aviv, which was founded only in the early 20th century?

Why indeed. Mahmoud Abbas is the head of a shaky government that has lost most of its appeal to its own people. That's because he is not considered radical enough or violent enough.

When an election was held in Gaza, the residents there voted against Abbas's Fatah crowd and for the openly terrorist Hamas. Hamas regularly sends missiles into Israel from their Gaza fortress. World media blasted the Israelis for alleged attacks on hospitals in Gaza during a recent incursion, but Hamas routinely stores missiles in hospitals and uses ambulances to transport them. So much for "humanitarian."

Mahmoud Abbas long served on the Palestinian Liberation Organization's (PLO) executive council. The PLO is the predecessor to the so-called Palestinian Authority. Abbas was the loyal lieutenant of Yassir Arafat. Arafat founded the PLO. He invented airline hijacking for terror purposes. Many of us recall the headlines the PLO won for these terrorist attacks -- not just airlines but the 1972 Olympics, kindergartens in Israel, and peaceful cruise ships. Many of us have not forgotten it was Arafat who gave orders for the murder of U.S. Ambassador Cleo Noel in Sudan in 1972.

Leopards don't change their spots. Mahmoud Abbas's Fatah party emblem proves it: All of Israel disappears in the map it shows of the Mideast -- not just the West Bank, not just Gaza. When Vice President Biden stumps for a "contiguous" Palestinian state, he plays right into Fatah's hands.

Today, Palestinian media continue uninterruptedly to spew the most hateful caricatures of Jews. And Palestinian children continue to be indoctrinated in all their schools with hatred of Israel and all Jews. Only now, Americans are footing the bill.

When Arafat died, Abbas stepped up to take his place. Here's what the U.S. Government had to say about the PLO in 1988, the year that we supposedly achieved a breakthrough for peace in the Mideast.

U.S. Government has convincing evidence that PLO elements have engaged in terrorism against Americans and others. This evidence includes a series of operations undertaken by the Force 17 and the Hawari organizations since the PLO claimed to foreswear the use of terrorism in the Cairo declaration of November 1985. As Chairman of the PLO, Mr. Arafat is responsible for actions of these organizations which are units of Fatah, an element of the PLO of which he also is chairman and which is under his control.

The most recent sign of Mr. Arafat's associations with terrorism was the presence at the Algiers session of the Palestine National Council this month of Abu Abbas, a member of the Executive Committee of the PLO who has been convicted by the Italian judicial system of the murder of an American citizen, Mr. Leon Klinghoffer. In summary, we find that:
* The PLO, through certain of its elements, has employed terrorism against Americans;
* Mr. Arafat, as Chairman of the PLO, knows of condones, and lends support to such acts; he, therefore, is an accessory to such terrorism;
* Terrorism and those involved in it are a serious threat to our national security and to the lives of American citizens; and
* The headquarters agreement, contained in Public Law 80-357, reserves to us the right to bar the entry of those who represent a threat to our security.

In those days, we would not even allow Arafat to enter our country. We correctly branded him and his cohorts terrorists and mass murderers. Over time, we somehow have convinced ourselves that if we pay them enough and pet them enough, these leopards will purr like kittens. Why? Nothing we have seen in the two decades since then should convince us that the PLO has changed its spots, whatever it is calling itself these days.

Obama wants Israel to roll over and play dead in the face of Hamas, Hezbollah, PLO, Syria, Iran, etc. Obama is giving aid and comfort to the new Nazis.

Angel Mendoza| 3.15.10 @ 2:50PM

Mr. O'Brien is right, Obama has not shown anything but contempt for the State of Israel with his hollow words and by sending the VP which has not shown he has the basic skills to talk his way out of a paper bag. Obama is happy to send money to a people that have shown time and time again, that there only motive is to wipe out every Jew from the Middle East. So you have to ask yourself why would he do that? the answer is one of two options, 1.He is monumentally naive about history or, 2. Does not care about the Jews and the State of Israel.
Number 2 makes more sense to me. Stay Strong Israel, this American Jew stands behind you, and no I didn't vote for Obama

Alan Brooks| 3.15.10 @ 8:26PM

Don't know enough about the Palestinian- Israel situation; however what makes me suspicious is the lawyer-talk. Now take the Chomskyite/Ward Churchill propaganda. It ignored, still ignores, how Israel gave warning to Gaza residents during the last Gaza war, even by cellphone.
And apropos Friday's blog, the blame Israel & America firsters attacked Liz Cheney's 'Keep America Safe', for not being fully interested in the legal rights of prisoners. Regardless, that was then, this is now. How are the detainees being treated now that Obama is president? better than inmates in many state prisons and local jails. Overall, Gitmo detainees are being treated as well as federal prisoners.
I don't trust the Chomskyites, so when they discuss Mideast politics everything they write or say is suspect.
Same old dilemma-- how do you separate propaganda from valid discussions?

You can't. Not today.

Jim O'Brien| 3.16.10 @ 7:06AM

About "blaming": Obama is blaming Israel for being too tough on the Palestinians, Hamas, Hezbollah and other terrorists. By giving hundreds of millions of our money to the Palestinians, Obama is directly subsidizing terrorism and anti-Semitism with our tax money and/or increased national debt.

Joe Biden and Obama seem to have forgotten the motto of Israel:
"NEVER AGAIN!"

Israel, looks like to me that they are doing right now, what we individual Americans are going to have to do in the near future...Just Say NO!

Nick| 3.15.10 @ 8:53AM

Ken,

I hope you are right.

Too bad countries can't get awards.
Because Israel deserves one for making O'Biden look like a jackass!

Israel cannot receive the award because Biden does most of the work making himself look like a jackass.

"Just Say NO!"

Israel is in no position to "Just Say NO!" until they "Just Say NO!" to the annual $3 billion welfare check we send them.

Sir, you are an idiot.

And just how is giving any country whatsoever legal under our Constitution? Please specify section and article.

Oh that's right, a bunch of lawyers say plain English doesn't apply to our laws.

Should He decide to do so, God can take care of "His Chosen People". The United States do not have any legal or moral reasons or obligations to baby Israel or its parasites.

Christopher Holland| 3.15.10 @ 11:53PM

Great idea, you really thought hard about this one. It seems to go like this: Israel says no to US aid - you can shove it and Hilary Clinton doesn't get her phone calls returned. Israel did this in 1967, so there is a history here, so don't assume you have them at your beck and call. Then Israel is free to do whatever it wants, with the Palestinians, Syria and Iran - you have no hold over them, moral or otherwise. The Palestinians are sure to be greatful for your benevolence, now that Israel is free to put the boot into them. Arabs already despise you - they will really be annoyed now. Israel has nuclear weapons, they are ready to use them, and they can use them on people who sell you oil. Tell me now - how does this advance your interests?

Christopher Holland| 3.16.10 @ 12:23AM

$3 billion is loose change for the US government, they find that when they vacuum under the sofa every month

Brian Mc| 3.15.10 @ 8:13AM

Let me get this straight; Israel struggles for peace through concessions, regression of territorial claims that were accomplished through open war that they did NOT perpetrate. The Palestinians struggle for peace through extermination of a people who only want to live, work, worship, raise a family and die in peace.

Are we to believe the two are compatible and both as noble as the other?

Thank God we do not have schools named Lee Harvey Oswald, here...Sirhan, Sirhan Elementary. John Wilkes Booth Junior College. If anyone is to be eliminated, it should be the so-called Palestinians...the world would sleep better.

Is it true that Israel is the only Middle Eastern country where Palestinians get to vote?

I shake my head and wonder why we attempt to placate, if not outright champion the intollerant.

Andy| 3.17.10 @ 2:18PM

Yes! This seems so straight forward. I wonder why it's not always shared.

R Martin| 3.15.10 @ 8:52AM

Giving my tax dollars to Palestinians makes my skin crawl. Doesn't anyone remember how those people celebrated in the streets after the 9/11 attacks? For the life of me, I don't understand my American Jews supported Obama so overwhelmingly in the 2008 election.

KyMouse| 3.16.10 @ 12:53PM

Right after 9/11, I bought a softcover book about the attacks, and it contains a full-page photo of so-called Palestinians celebrating in the streets. I remember how quickly the footage was pulled from our TV sets; every Sept. 11, I look at that book again, and see the joyful faces of those who celebrated the deaths of our fellow citizens.

I think there is some validity to the theory that
American Jews tended to vote for Obama because evangelical Christians didn't. By the same token, they don't support Israel because evangelical Christians do. In my experience, there's something to that, but there are undoubtedly other factors as well.

I've been to Israel four times since 1998 and am saving up to go again. To me, there is no place more exciting or important on the world stage (but then, I'm an evangelical Christian). Everything that the Bible said would happen to the Jewish people has been happening -- driven out of their homeland, persecuted everywhere else, brought back to their homeland, and able to fight off countless attackers. My money's on Israel. Obama's arms too short to box with the God of Israel.

Cris Worth| 3.15.10 @ 9:20AM

Veep suggests Israel should take a risk...would you put your life in the hands of Joe Biden?

William R| 3.15.10 @ 10:23AM

Ehud Barak, Israels most decorated soldier, former Prime Minister and current Defense Minister knows that unless there's a two state solution Israel will cease to exist. It is moving towards a South Africa type situation. Demographics are not Israels friend.

Nick| 3.15.10 @ 10:27AM

William R,

And which side gets Jerusalem?

As long as there is no answer to this question, sadly, there will be no peace.

William R| 3.15.10 @ 11:42AM

Well Simon Peres wants to give Christian areas to the Vatican. So I think Muslim areas should go to the Palestinians.

Ray| 3.15.10 @ 11:46AM

Ok, so Jewish areas should "go to" the Israelis then, correct? This includes most of Jerusalem, including Temple Mound, as that was Jewish territory a thousand years before Islam even existed.

Nick| 3.15.10 @ 12:13PM

William R,

That's fine for Mr. Peres, but it is no answer to the problem.

There are millions and millions of Moslems who will never accept a Jewish presence in Jerusalem. Like the ones who declared the 2nd intifada because Ariel Sharon led some Jews for a walk on the Temple Mount.

On the other side, there are Zionist Nationals that want to pull down the Dome of the Rock and rebuild the Temple.

These two sides are irreconcilable.

Either Israelis are going to bulldoze the Dome and incur the wrath of millions and fight a holy war. Or the Arabs are going to push Israel into the sea.

Any thought of living together is delusional. One side or the other is going to have to win.

I'd put my money on Israel.

Ray| 3.15.10 @ 11:42AM

The Two-Sate solution isn't working, and will never work, because the people who want to destroy Israel, the Palestinians, don't care for independence. They only care for the extermination of the Jews. Until that situation changes, and the Palestinians accept the Jews and grant them the same right to exist they grant themselves, peace will never be achieved in the Middle East no matter what Israel does.

Also, the only Apartheid being practiced in the Middle East is being done in Muslim countries that have e ether isolated their Jewish populations or have driven them out completely. Nothing similar is occurring in Israel, as you well know.

Franklin| 3.15.10 @ 9:44PM

Here are two links to videos I found that help explain the world’s problems with Islamic Terrorists and why Isreal (and any country that gets in the way of Islam) will never be at peace:

They are both from Allen West, Republican candidate for Florida Congressional District 22.

William R| 3.15.10 @ 10:28AM

R Martin, so giving tax dollars to the Palestinians makes your skin crawl. Well I bet the survivors of the USS Liberty skin crawls every time Israel is mentioned.

http://video.google.com/videop.....114591367#

Ray| 3.15.10 @ 11:30AM

Is that the best you got? The Liberty was unidentified, refused to answer repeated radio calls, and was, in violation of treaty, SPYING of Israel during combat situations. It's not surprising that it was attacked, we'd do the same in similar situations. Even the captain and crew said they understand why they were attacked. Once the true identity of the vessel was known, Israel STOPPED the attack and rendered assistance. Not only that, Israel apologized for their actions and paid reparations to the families of the killed ind injured. I'm not surprised you never mentioned any of that.

William R| 3.15.10 @ 11:47AM

Israel was flying over the USS Liberty for six hours before they attacked. They flew so close that pilots and crew members were waving at each other. They knew it was an American ship. Then why did they attack?? A combination of two reasons. They killed a bunch of Egyptian prisoners in the Sinai which is a war crime and were pulling out and massing their troops to attack Syria. They decided that they couldn't take the chance that the Americans had discovered either one. The attack on Syria was delayed for 24 hours after the Liberty had entered the region.

Ray| 3.15.10 @ 11:51AM

"Israel was flying over the USS Liberty for six hours before they attacked."

No, they weren't. According the the testimony of the Liberty crew during the investigation of what happened, Israel made a sing pass over the ship before firing on it, which is standard procedure.

William R| 3.15.10 @ 12:05PM

"It's an American ship!" the pilot of an Israeli Mirage fighter-bomber radioed Tel Aviv as he sighted the USS Liberty on June 8, 1967. Israeli headquarters ordered the pilot to attack the American ship.
-- former US Ambassador to Lebanon Dwight Porter describing transcripts of communications he saw, reported in syndicated column "Remembering the Liberty" by Rowland Evans and Robert Novak, November 6, 1991.

http://www.ussliberty.org/supporters.htm

stmichrick| 3.15.10 @ 10:28PM

William,

Why would they think attacking the Liberty would eliminate the 'chance' that Americans would discover their plans? It simply added to a potential issue.

Doorgunner| 3.15.10 @ 11:35AM

The U.S. knowingly put those sailors lives at risk during the 1967 Six Days War. Although the Liberty was in international waters, Israel had warned the us that there would be extreme aggression used to defend the borders. Did Israel knowingly attack a U.S. ship? That's never been proven; but the U.S did know the risks of the ship's location.

And haven't the Palestinians already refused the nation option, by fiat and referendum enough times that we should be reconsidering our support of them, not Israel?

William R| 3.15.10 @ 11:48AM

Israel flew over the ship for six hours before they attacked it. They damn well knew it was an American ship.

ray| 3.15.10 @ 11:55AM

Have you forgotten WHY the Liberty was there? It was there to collect radio "intelligence" and we have recordings of the radio conversations of the Pilot and the Israel defense command. None of those conversations suggest that Israel understood that the Liberty was an American vessel.

William R| 3.15.10 @ 3:04PM

You're in denial. Of course there are radio transcripts of Israeli pilots telling their commanders it is an American ship

Bohred| 3.15.10 @ 7:48PM

Prove it. Give me links.
The fog of war and all that. The Israelis aren't so stupid to bite the hand that feeds them.
Prove they "knew" for six hours.
Prove it or shut up.

Biden - that bloviating gasbag representing us? And that famous cattle futures trader and the proponent of politics of meaning (marxism) is our Secretary of State? The president is not "our" commander in chief. American citizens do not have a "commander".

PineKnot| 3.15.10 @ 1:23PM

Let's solve the 'two state' crisis. Give Israel a strip of land across the southern U.S., the first 30 miles north of the Mexican border. Let them remain a sovereign nation there.

Then watch the Latin Americans try to figure out a new way to get into the United States. I can just see an illegal trying to explain to an Israeli border guard what he's doing on their soil.

Meanwhile, the rest of the world could say to the Palestinians, "You have your country. Now, we don't have to send you another dime." In thirty years, the Israelis would be able to go home again. Everyone in the Middle East would be more than happy to welcome them back.

S.L. Toddard| 3.15.10 @ 1:27PM

"kills and starves them first"

Patrick J Buchanan| 3.15.10 @ 1:39PM

Israel's best interests are not necessarily the same as U.S. interests. We have been at war in the Gulf, in one way or another, since the formation of Israel.
Although often our strategic interests overlap, more often than not, Israel's interests have prevailed to our detriment.
The argument that Israel has a right to the territory it has historically occupied, could by made collectively by the American Indians.
How many pro Israel people want to grant the same ownership rights to the Native Americans that they grant to Israel?
Israel, throught its' history, has violated numerous UN resolutions. Never has it faced punishment, because the U.S. vetoes any disciplinary measures.
Israel has been involved in acts of terrorism against Arabs as well as against US interests, yet the US continues to support Israel financially, militarily, and politically.
It 9is not a black and white situation; Israel is not always on the right/moral side. Palestinians too are guilty of terrorism and indoctrinating it's children with anti-Israel hatred.
Still, our current status has us involved in two wars, and approaching a third, and these all to protect Israel and our oil resources. The cost in blood and treasure is too great, and the ends do not justify the means.
AIPAC should not determine US policy in the Middle East.

Doorgunner| 3.15.10 @ 4:56PM

In response to the first paragraph, I say we 've been entangled, militarily and otherwise, since long before the formation of Israel. And some of us regard the formation of a democracy in that region as a positive development.

To paragraphs two and three, I say your analogy is not only irrelevant but asinine. And I would also point that we do not have the ability or authority to "grant" rights regarding sovereignty to an already sovereign nation. Your hubris is showing.

As to paragraph four, regarding Israel violating "numerous UN resolutions: bravo. The Un is an organiztion that on many days seems exclusively devoted to the diminishment, if not outright destruction of Israel. Personally, I would like to see the Un facilities at Avenue of the Americas pushed into the East River by bulldozer. As for your accusations of Israeli terrorism against the Arabs and US interests, do your really want to begin a tally? And compare it to others in the region? Frankly, Israeli restraint has been Biblically admirable.

And, finally, your last two paragraphs; a bit of moral equivalency to usher in a bald-faced lie. "It 9is [sic] nott a black and white situation..." brilliant assessment, master statesman! And then to acknowledge, magnanimously that the Palestinians "too are guilty of terrorism" and brainwashing their children. Pardon me, but did you miss the part where the Palestinians, by their own words, are, as a people, dedicated to the annilihation of the Israels. Could you please point out where the Israelis have announced, and acted upon, a like devotion?

And then the lie. "Still, our current status has us involved in two wars, and approaching a third, and these all to protect Israel and our oil resources." Really? Really? I know of no measure of oil profit for our efforts, and as for protecting Israel, well, I think a better argument could easily be constructed for acting to protect the region as whole from a wider conflagaration resulting from Israeli self-defense.

Patrick J Buchanan| 3.15.10 @ 5:51PM

I am not surprised by the 'knee-jerk' reaction to my post. Most American supporters of Israel are quite willing to ignore anything that casts that nation in a bad light, but the truth remains that Israel is a state sponsor of terrorism. It may be terrorism of a sort that Israel's supporters favor, but it's terrorism nevertheless.
I do not see any evidence to support your claim that "he Un is an organiztion (sic) that on many days seems exclusively devoted to the diminishment (sic), if not outright destruction of Israel
The UN has its' faults, but it is telling that the US has used it's veto power so extensively to shield Israel from the consequences of their actions.
When GW Bush used UN resolutions in support of War on Iraq, I bet you were not ready to bulldoze the UN then.

Here's the record on Americas vetoes in the UN regarding Israel : "The all-time abuser of the veto was the administration of Ronald Reagan, the most pro-Israel presidency in U.S. history, with the most pro-Israel secretary of state, George Shultz, since Kissinger. The Reagan team cynically invoked the veto 18 times to protect Israel. A record six of these vetoes were cast in 1982 alone. Nine of the Reagan vetoes resulted directly from Security Council attempts to condemn Israel’s 1982 invasion of Lebanon, and Israel’s refusal to surrender the territory in southern Lebanon which it still occupies today. The other nine vetoes shielded Israel from council criticism for such illicit acts as the Feb. 4, 1986, skyjacking of a Libyan plane.11
http://www.ifamericansknew.org.....-veto.html
These vetoes kept Israel from being held accountable for international law violations.
My analogy over land historically belonging to a people (Israel and Native Americans) is accurate and you cannot dismiss this important aspect of our respective histories just because it is unpleasant to contemplate. We (white European settlers) murdered native Americans and took their land. There is no pleasant way to get around that fact.
If you completely understand the history of the Middle East, the land claimed by Israel today has been fought over and changed hands many times throughout history. Who has a legitimate right to exist on that land? Neither of us can answer that question.
"And then the lie. "Still, our current status has us involved in two wars, and approaching a third, and these all to protect Israel and our oil resources."
Why is it a lie?
Who has been pushing the US to invade the Islamic world and topple their governments, and why?
AIPAC and neocons are the driving force, and not because these policies are in the best interests of the American people.
As my namesake wrote in an article published just prior to the invasion of Iraq
"We charge that a cabal of polemicists and public officials seek to ensnare our country in a series of wars that are not in America’s interests. We charge them with colluding with Israel to ignite those wars and destroy the Oslo Accords. We charge them with deliberately damaging U.S. relations with every state in the Arab world that defies Israel or supports the Palestinian people’s right to a homeland of their own. We charge that they have alienated friends and allies all over the Islamic and Western world through their arrogance, hubris, and bellicosity."

Why complain that Israel ignores the UN? If there is one institution on the planet that deserves to be ignored, it is the UN. This organisation deserves every insult, it is a criminal organisation and a monstrous failure. Israel does what the US should do. You should be congratulating them. Oh, and the UN hates Israel - maybe that is one reason Israel hates the UN.

The Palestininas could have had a state at any time since 1947. They never wanted one and they still don't. Get your fool head around that and stop blaming Israel for the faults and stupidities of others.

Mr. Buchanan
Actually you are an ignorant ass.

You said and I quote:

""Israel's best interests are not necessarily the same as U.S. interests. We have been at war in the Gulf, in one way or another, since the formation of Israel.""

Dipstick, I earned my living "in the Gulf" from 1973 through 1981.
Duh, we were not at war "in the Gulf". Quite the contrary. We were helping Aramco become independent, and honestly, having a pretty nice time among Arabic friends.
Truthfully, (and I personally know), that the only reason we were there in the first place was to develop their oil resources...and make a damned fine profit for ourselves in the process.

Without us, the Arabs had a lot of sandy beaches to enjoy while they squatted on them in poverty.

We could have turned our attention on our own resources instead... but Some US guys were smart enough to think..."Heck, let's burn their oil first and save ours for last."

In addition, Mr. Carter was anti-energy domestically as is Obama. The Greenies infected Carter too, and the oil companies, (me and us), said to heck with it. We will produce somewhere they want us to.

Patrick J Buchanan| 3.15.10 @ 6:01PM

Actually you are an ignorant ass.
Nice to meet you too. I do not believe my post insulted or criticized you in any way, but that's how it goes on this site; attack the messenger is rule #1 in the Conservative playbook. What puzzles me, is that your comment does not contradict anything I wrote, and in fact seems to confirm it.
We are there, engaged in two wars, to militarily protect the oil, and this free protection for the oil companies is just another subsidy. As you have noted, the oil companies have made a fine profit.
You also seem confused about Obama's energy policies. He has pledged mega billions in aid to the nuclear industry, said we need to access our oil and coal resources, and boost production of renewable energy. That's a multi-level plan that utilizes a multiple of resources. Your zeal to condemn the President has obscured your ability to reason.
Oil is the energy of the past, and renewables the energy of the future. It is understandable that those who profit from oil, do not want to see significant progress in the renewable energy field.
Especially, you do not want to see the electric car.
Too late!

stmichrick| 3.15.10 @ 10:21PM

'Patrick J Buchanan,' NOT.

Your antipathy to the oil industry and venerate Obama's trashing our ally gives you away.

Visit the Middle East. Israel is obviously civilized, the rest are basket cases; oil revenue notwithstanding/

Anyone who watched the Arafat 'funeral' knows those people are not worthy of sovereignty.

JimE| 3.16.10 @ 1:42AM

Pat, Your ignorance is appalling.

Michael Maier| 3.16.10 @ 11:46AM

Well THAT is a compelling display of evidence!

Well played, sir.

Louis Jenkins| 3.15.10 @ 2:55PM

Dear Melvin:

Jackass Biden and Hillary for mid-east diplomacy? How dare we insult jackasses!! They are a far more nobel and smarter creature than either of the two, and to be honest, better looking.

Dear Mr. Buchanan:

Your post has much truth of the matter. It is difficult to stomach funding of terrorists (and it indirectly funds their acts). The Jews, when recognizing a threat, pound it to dust. Neither makes for good international relations and does little to solve the ever brewing conflict. The Jews, however, realize that they garner no favor with this administration. And yes the Israelis are not always on the right/moral side, except in the interest of their survival. Just how far they're willing to bend and still ensure their national safety remains to be seen.

Christopher Holland| 3.16.10 @ 12:17AM

When Israel defends itself, when it is a question of survival, then morality does not come into it. What is the point of being moral when you are dead? Morality is a luxury for people who are not in danger.

Speaking to Israel, God states:
"For the nation and kingdom that will not serve thee shall perish; yea, those nations shall be utterly wasted."
The interests of the U.S. and Israel are inextricably tied together.
And if Obama keeps pressuring Israel, you will see this scripture fulfilled.
Isaiah 60:12

KyMouse| 3.16.10 @ 1:05PM

Messrs. Toddard and Buchanan can take up their complaints with the God of Israel, but He wins all arguments.

"Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of trembling to all the people round about, when they shall be in the siege both against Judah and against Jerusalem.

"And in that day I will make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it...

"And it shall come to pass in that day that I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem...." -- Zechariah 12:2-3, 9.

We can't say we haven't been warned.

Toddard,

Always obsessed with how much money Israel gets from us.

But doesn't seem to care about the money all the other nations get from us.

Why is that?

With Obama poised to nationalize 17% of the US ecomomy, Joe (we hardly knew ye) Biden, is a man looking for a legacy. The death of Israel is not the change we voted for.

Ian| 3.15.10 @ 11:26PM

very god Ben dover, but one more important thing is not hardly mentioned. A few years ago it finally came out in a trial in Miami that the Israelis really DID NOT KNOW whose ship it was. This was CONFIRMED by the fact by secret U-2 spy plane intercepts of the Israeli planes was finally released years later. The planes WERE spying on the region. This confirms it was a tragic accident and the only reason to mention it now is to create hatred of Israel...
