The Kennedy Joke

Young Patrick Kennedy’s projections.

Rep. Patrick Kennedy has come out swinging against the man who now sits in the Senate seat his father held for 47 years. Telling a blog for the Hill newspaper that Senator Scott Brown was “in the tank for the Republicans,” the Rhode Island Democrat called Brown’s candidacy a “joke.”

The putdown is a familiar one for the Kennedy family. Forty-eight years ago, a thirty-year-old Ted Kennedy heard the same taunt from his primary opponent, Massachusetts Attorney General Edward McCormack: “If his name was Edward Moore, with his qualifications — with your qualifications, Teddy — if it was Edward Moore, your candidacy would be a joke. But nobody’s laughing because his name is not Edward Moore. It’s Edward Moore Kennedy.” Kennedy, after all, had never held a steady paying job, save for a two-year stint in the Army, prior to winning the Senate seat. At Harvard he had been kicked out for cheating and at the University of Virginia’s law school he had led police on drunken high speed chases. The young playboy’s appearance on the Senate floor a day after his election must have struck observers then the way Senator Paris Hilton would appear to us today.

Though the shoe fit for Ted Kennedy back in 1962, the “joke” tag seems an odd one for Senator Scott Brown. Brown’s father didn’t buy him the election. The president and the attorney general aren’t his brothers. His grandfather wasn’t the mayor of Boston. A family friend wasn’t appointed placeholder senator for his benefit. A product of a broken home, Brown and his mother briefly relied on welfare. He is a graduate of the public schools and used ROTC, and a much publicized semi-nude spread in Cosmopolitan, to help fund his education. Scott Brown is the anti-Kennedy.

Instead of the advantages of name and money enjoyed by the Kennedys, Scott Brown faced a 31-point deficit in the polls less than two months before his election. Brown could not look to his party for a single statewide or federal office holder from Massachusetts. So pathetic had the Massachusetts Republican Party become that it fielded opponents in just four of ten House races in 2008, not eclipsing the 30 percent mark in any of those contests. Both houses of the Massachusetts General Court have been in Democrat hands for more than a half century. Yet, Brown managed to paint the bluest state red (if for only one election).

Patrick Kennedy’s outburst seems less reflection of Brown’s candidacy than projection of the eight-term congressman’s own woes. In May of 2006, Kennedy infamously crashed his headlights-off Mustang into a Capitol Police barrier. Appearing drunk to some officers at the scene, the congressman claimed he was “late for a vote” — at 2:45 a.m. Kennedy nevertheless avoided a field sobriety test and received a ride home. The obligatory rehab stint followed, which was followed by yet another one last June. Atop bouts with cocaine, alcohol, and OxyContin, Kennedy has battled bipolar disorder.

These demons appear to have influenced Kennedy’s erratic headline-grabbing behavior. In 2000, he abandoned a yacht off Martha’s Vineyard that a rental company charged he had trashed to the tune of $28,000 in damages. The same year he shoved a female airport security guard at LAX in a do-you-know-who-I-am moment. To a meeting of Young Democrats in 2003, a candid Kennedy boasted: “I have never worked a f—-ing day in my life.” Though Kennedy hails from the most Catholic state in the union, he last year strangely publicized a past row with his bishop regarding the impropriety of the pro-abortion-rights representative receiving communion and launched an attack on the Catholic Church for its objections to abortion funding within the health-care legislation supported by the president.

Kennedy’s bizarre behavior may have finally overshadowed his name and fortune. A poll released last week by Providence’s WPRI-TV reported Patrick Kennedy’s disapproval ratings at 62 percent throughout Rhode Island and 56 percent within his district. Rhode Island state representative John J. Loughlin II, a well-funded Scott Brown-clone who has hired several of the key operatives behind the Massachusetts Miracle, announced his candidacy against Kennedy on Thursday. Should the National Guard veteran win, it would mark the first Congress without a Kennedy in almost a half-century.

Even the colorful Buddy Cianci, the ex-con “Prince of Providence,” mulls a run for Kennedy’s seat. “Patrick is definitely, in my opinion, beatable. He’s not as strong as he used to be,” the former mayor of Providence told the Boston Herald last month. “He’s had a number of problems that have distracted him from the business of governing and legislating.”

That’s a nuanced way of saying that Patrick Kennedy is a joke. And in the midst of a 13 percent statewide unemployment rate, few Rhode Islanders find it funny anymore to send a mentally-ill recovering drug addict to the House of Representatives for another term.

In the 1970s I lived in Buffalo NY and Ted Kennedy came to a rally which I attended out of curiosity, being a libertarian at the time. This was a group of lunch bucket Union Democrats, by and large, who had those horrible velvet paintings of Abraham Martin and John in their living rooms, and were as it happened in the midst of some 22% unemployment due mainly to factories moving to Right To Work states.

The first thing Teddy said when he faced this crowd of worshippers was *Boy, let go of control of your schedule for a minute and look where you end up!*

That pretty much summed him up for me.

Alan Brooks| 2.8.10 @ 8:03PM

Agreed, whatever the flaws of the Bushes, they are dignified-- unlike the Kennedys. Inever wrotwe that Dubya was a bad person, but a president does get blamed, rightly or wrongly (probably wrongly) for the disasters that occur on his watch. Nixon is held culpable to this day for the Cambodian Holocaust, when he tried to avert it.
Here's my favorite Kennedy joke from my favorite Kennedy, RFK:

REPORTER: "Mr. Kennedy, you have been accused of being ruthless."
RFK: "Tell me who has called me ruthless and I will destroy him."

Alan Brooks| 2.8.10 @ 9:02PM

"Inever wrotwe that Dubya was a bad person."
Must be publik skool upbringing.
Ought to read: "I never wrote..."

Certainly Bush was not a monster such as LBJ.

Cris Worth| 2.8.10 @ 6:54AM

Patrick, history does repeat itself therefore like father like son just drive a car off a bridge and be done with it.

Jim Hlavac| 2.8.10 @ 12:03PM

Oh no, think of the poor girl who would drown! And then Paddy would avoid the wagon and get into the Senate for forty years. Oh horrors. No, he should just resign for the good of the people and skink off to a family retreat somewhere.

Paul| 2.8.10 @ 12:16PM

The Kennedy family and the family of Herod the Great - note the many similarities.

Patrick| 2.8.10 @ 8:30PM

The Herod Dynasty drank less.

Alan Brooks| 2.8.10 @ 8:41PM

Caligula fornicated less than JFK.

ZerObama| 2.9.10 @ 4:50PM

Patches sure is an ugly little bastard! LOL!

Eric Cartman| 2.8.10 @ 1:24PM

What do you get when you mix a bottle of gin, a car, Ted Kennedy, a bridge, the press and the Democrat party? A dead girl!

Ba da boom! Ahhhh, your a terrific audience! Seriously! We be here all week! Try the veal! Thank you, thank you.

Eric Cartman| 2.8.10 @ 1:27PM

Declassified papers report that John Kennedy was taking eight different medications a day. He was so wasted, his Secret Service code name was Ted Kennedy.

Bada bing! Okay, really, you've been great!

Eric Cartman| 2.8.10 @ 1:31PM

Did you hear Pat Kennedy's excuse for hitting the barrier a 3:00 AM? He said he had to swerve to avoid hitting Ted Kennedy who was crawling home. … I guess the apple doesn't stagger too far from the tree.

Zing! We gotta million of 'em folks! Make sure you tip your waitress. Thank you, thank you.

Eric Cartman| 2.8.10 @ 1:37PM

Speaking of waitresses: Today in Washington, Governor-elect Arnold Schwarzenegger had lunch with Senator Ted Kennedy. I understand Gloria Allred is now representing the waitress.

ZIP!

The John Bolton nomination has cleared the committee. Larry Flynt has entered the fray. He said he has evidence Bolton bought tickets to a swingers club and forced his wife to have group sex. Today Ted Kennedy said he's heard enough -- he's voting yes

BIFF!

It's Bring Your Daughter to Work Day. This tradition began about 25 years ago down in Washington, D.C. by a quick-thinking Ted Kennedy who was spotted leaving his office with an 18-year-old.

ZINGO! Really, you've been great! Drive safe - there are still Kennedies out there! BANG! Okay, okay. Thank you!

Eric Cartman| 2.8.10 @ 1:46PM

Okay, okay, one more, but really, that's all!
Overheard as Ted Kennedy drove away: "Hey Teddy, What if I'm pregnant?" "Don't worry Mary-Joe, we'll cross that bridge when we come to it."

Man -o-man! Okay, bye bye! Thank you, thank you!

Everly Waverly| 2.8.10 @ 2:03PM

Patrick Kennedy walks into a bar, he's cradling in his cupped hands a still steaming pile of dog poop, walks-up to the bartender and says, "Look what I almost stepped in."

JTS| 2.8.10 @ 2:07PM

Bravo! Encore! More, more!

Everly Waverly| 2.8.10 @ 5:02PM

Patrick Kennedy goes to the country fair. He's wandering around, sees over by the levy someone with a sandwich board on announcing a riverboat ride, he goes over to inquire. He's told for a mere $10.00 he can go for a ride. Pat asks "where the boat is", the guy says" right there", Kennedy turns around and the guy pulls a wrench out of his pants and clubs 'em. The guy drags Kennedy down to the water and loads him on an inner tube and kicks him down stream. A while later, Kennedy all groggy, shaking his head looks around and see another guy looking very much like himself, on an inner tube and asked the guy "why for $10.00 he didn't even get a drink?" The guy replies,"they didn't serve drinks last year either."

MTB| 2.8.10 @ 8:53PM

Now THAT was funny!

Sam| 2.8.10 @ 6:50PM

Eric- SHUT UP ALREADY! You're not funny! Let me make things really clear to all you people:

Pat Kennedy is calling Brown a joke because he lost and is being a poor sport about it. That's it. End of story. We didn't need to read a whole article about it.

Eric Cartman| 2.8.10 @ 7:04PM

Hey Sam: Tabloids are reporting that Sen. Ted Kennedy has an illegitimate 21 year-old son. Apparently, Kennedy isn't denying the report, but the kid is!

Ba ba ba boop! Thank you, thank you!

Lullaby's, Legends and Lies| 2.8.10 @ 8:25PM

Actually Sam, it sounds like you're not funny. And if you were funny, well then Sam, where are your Kennedy jokes? Yep, that's what I thought, you don't have any.

But Eric here, he's funny, I read his posts almost everyday, and I laugh almost everyday too. Except of course, on those days, that he's really not funny, then I don't laugh, but that's not too often.

Occam's Tool| 9.8.10 @ 5:04PM

I love the Kennedy jokes---of course, that's a redundancy.

jman1961| 2.8.10 @ 9:53PM

Hey, Sam!
Scott Brown defeated Martha Coakley. 'Patches' wasn't running. Go that, moron?
We'd all like to know; what does the world look like to you seeing as you have your head planted firmly up your a@@??
BTW, the nurse will be by with your Thorazine any minute now, so hang tight.

jman1961| 2.8.10 @ 9:56PM

Oooops! I meant to say 'Got that, moron?', but I was laughing so hard at the stuff Eric is posting that I missed the 'T'.
Keep it up, Eric, you're a riot!!

Sam| 2.9.10 @ 3:14PM

Jman1961-
Why don't you get off Eric's nuts and stop choking on all the cum he's spewed into your mouth? Perhaps if you stop sucking him so vigorously, he'll stop telling such stupid jokes.

Now here's one for you: Did you hear that Sarah Palin knew so little about policy that she had to write the talking points on her hand? Oh wait- she actually did that a couple of days ago!

ZerObama| 2.9.10 @ 4:45PM

Well, at least the folks in Sarah's audience don't get whip-lash like the unfortunate democrat 'corpseman' trying to follow the verbal antics of the 'TOTUS'.

Nice garbage mouth, vile libturd--got your pink panties in a pinch today? LMAO!

Enjoy your party's fast approaching political wilderness, numbnuts.

Occam's Tool| 9.8.10 @ 5:06PM

Actually, she did that as an aide to memory---as opposed to the Kennedys REMEMBERING to do an aide!

Try the fish, folks!

Sarattus| 2.8.10 @ 7:00AM

If ever in this wide world someone is a living joke, it has to be this drunken, pill besotted, on the decline scion of the tattered Kennedy clan. What a maroon, as Bugs used to say. His best accomplishment was to run his car into a lamp post. That is as close as his electorate should allow him to public office.

Colin McCauley| 2.8.10 @ 7:02AM

Patrick Kennedy is quite a bit more than a "joke". He is an absurdity. He has no concept of "recovery" as in an addiction recovery program. He lives his personal and political life the same way he lives his life in addiction...he fakes it but, this chap will never "make it". I feel bad for his mother, Joan, who has battled alcoholism for as many years as she has been associated with this totally corrupt and immoral family. Really great article and now, maybe with the absence of this bunch of philanderers and cheats, Massachusetts can move on, except for one item left on the agenda: get rid of kerry.

Bill Hussein O'Stalin| 2.8.10 @ 7:10AM

If anyone has anything in common it's Patrick and Teddy. They both drove in a reckless manner while inebriated. In one case someone was murdered.

Melvin| 2.8.10 @ 8:01AM

In relation to Mr. Patrick's ill thought of comments, were they made before or after rehab.?

Shamus| 2.8.10 @ 8:06AM

Kennedy is currently in prehab but will soon enter retox.

Dean| 2.8.10 @ 8:08AM

These comments from the party that brought us Al Franken and Roland Burris.

Morley| 2.8.10 @ 8:25AM

Hey, Patrick. Of course Scott Brown is in the tank for the Republicans. He is a Republican, you dumb son of a bitch!

Stephanie| 2.8.10 @ 9:10AM

Wow, Morley! Tell us how you eally feel!
No, I had the same reaction when I read that statement. I would hope Brown is in the tank for the Repubs. Geeeezzzz.........what a maroooon.
And such a pathetic family. I have always felt sorry for Joan while being married to that fat, cheating sod, Teddy. did he have his marriage annuled? Didn't that make all his kids illegit?

Apple Annie| 2.8.10 @ 10:17AM

The annulment is a Catholic thing. Not a civil annulment. Catholic annulment does not make children of a marriage illegit. Teddy bought an annulment from the church so he could "marry" his last sweetie, in the church. Patrick is a sorry soul. Mentally "mixed up." Go figure. His daddy is Teddy Kennedy and his mom, well his mom is another lost soul. Made crazy by her in-laws.

Patrick| 2.8.10 @ 8:50PM

One of the low points in the Catholic Church that was.

On the bright side, Teddy's nephew, Joe didn't luck out nearly as much. He received his rubber-stamp annulment from the Boston Archdiocese, without informing Sheila Rauch, or allowing her to appeal. Eventually the Roman Rota took her case and ruled that the marriage is still valid.

MontanaJane | 2.9.10 @ 3:00PM

Didn't know the appeal ruled the marriage valid. Yeah for Sheila Rauch! Always thought the Archdiocese of Boston was in the Kennedys' pocket, and it was a shame for the Church.

Nick| 2.8.10 @ 12:26PM

Stephanie,

The Catholic Church never declared children from an annuled marriage, or from adultery and pre-marital relations, "illegitimate."

It is a legal term that defined who was eligible for inheritance.

Brian Richard Allen | 2.9.10 @ 2:07AM

Morley called Little Patty a dumb son of a bitch.

True.

And I've heard folks don't think much of his female parent, too.

Tntsgram| 2.9.10 @ 9:45AM

Morley, thank you for putting into words what I was thinking!!!!! ROFL

bluecollarbytes| 2.8.10 @ 8:32AM

Ted Kennedy's Chappaquiddick affair is one of my first political memories on political corruption. I don't know if he's the one who can be credited with creating the first political/medical prop- a neck brace, worn for the cameras some time after he 'valiantly tried to save' Mary Jo. But I've thought of that brace ever since when I think of Teddy.

Kennedy is a loser, no doubt. My problem is the electorate in Rode Island that keeps electing a zero like this. How many times does this happen across the country. It's enough to depress anyone.

Tom| 2.8.10 @ 10:26AM

Not enough chlorine in the gene pool.

ACynic| 2.8.10 @ 10:30AM

The real scary part of all this is that folks still vote for lying, arrogant, narcissistic, stuck-up, cheating, sleaze bags like the Patrick Kennedy.

Obama still is popular with about 50% of the electorate. Al Franken - the sleaze bag cheating senator from Minnesota actually got about 50% of the electorate to vote for him.

It is this fact - people voting for fundamentally dishonest, selfish, arrogant jerks - that is truly frightening.
The USA is not long for the world if this continues.

John Galt | 2.8.10 @ 12:35PM

ACynic, you're probably closer to the truth than you even imagine. Think about what the past 40 years of "culture" and liberal schooling have done. We now have a 3rd generation of voting age who have been brought up to believe that business is evil, the government "should do something" (about anything that bothers us), and handouts are a good thing. Over the next two presidential elections, the last of the Greatest Generation will be gone, the last of the "notch" generation who were schooled in pre-1970 public schools will become far outnumbered, and the weakest generations in American history will be the mass voting bloc.

It's all over but the shouting. I say it everywhere I post: If you want to see what America's cities will look like in 40 years, just look at Havana or at photos of East Berlin 1961-1989.

PJ| 2.8.10 @ 2:01PM

Excuse me! The "Greatest Generation" is also asking for handouts. The amt of money they put in Social Security, they've already taken out & much more. What about Medicaid! And if I'm not mistaken they are also responsible for raising to adulthood the corrupted elected officials & other persons in authority that we have today. Stop glorifying the older generation--- they have major faults too!

Simon Templar| 2.8.10 @ 3:06PM

I think your being quite ridiculous , unfair, and immature. I would guess you are either in your 20's or 30's and know much less about history than you think. The greatest generation worked very hard all their lives..surviving the depression, fighting a world war, and then rebulding a country. They paid into into these programs and they deserve that we keep our promises to keep them solvent. They did not steal from them but progressive corrupt politicians did. What about medicaid??? Futhermore, any adult knows that a parent does their best but can not be held responsible for their childrens behavior as adults.
Most of that generations children were patriots and not against the Vietnam war or interested in tearing down the country..you really do not know what you are talking about... yes, they had faults but they had a great deal more character, strength, guts, and faith in this country than you will ever know or have.

Quartermaster| 2.8.10 @ 5:44PM

Alas, Simon, PJ knows where of he speaks. The "greatest generation" raised the "worst generation." They were very indulgent of the worst generation and fed that sense of entitlement they have. They also believed Saint FDR saved the country from nasty businessmen and started the ball rolling for most of the regulatory nonsense on stilts that has been deindustrializing the country for near 40 years.

You are entitled to your opinion, but you are NOT entitled to your own facts. The facts say you are dead wrong.

Brian Richard Allen | 2.9.10 @ 2:33AM

"" The "greatest generation" ... "paid into" into these programs and "they deserve" that we keep "our" promises ... They did not steal from them but progressive corrupt politicians did. ""

Yair.

Progressive corrupt politicians that gang elected -- and elects still. Like the traitor F D Roosevelt, he of the so richly Soviet-agent-larded "administration" whose cynical and corrupt and illegal, unlawful and un-constitutional institutionalized envy-driven serial Ponzi scams and other assaults upon our nation's founding law bred every subsequent bastardization of that law and saw to consequential "election" of such ever incrementally more moronic amoral monsters as Kennedy, Johnson, Carter, the abjectly corrupt Cli'toon and the absolutely execrable sail eared simpleton presently pretending to what anymore passes for a "presidency."

The "greatest generation" has traded its every + point for having bred and/or nourished the several succeeding generations of long-haired pot-smoking maggot-infested un and anti Americans who have "voted" it and themselves the lives' energies of our every great great grandchild!

The greatest generation's political choices sewed the wind. Welcome to the whirlwind!

Chris from CT| 2.9.10 @ 4:32PM

Don't be so hard on boomers. My dad who was born in 1922 told me that I would not be getting a trust fund and would have to get a marketable skill and a J-O-B because trust funds turn adults into adolescents. He offered Ted Kennedy as Exhibit One. I was born in 1949 and I support myself and so do my five siblings. A lot of my friends do the same. When I started working I became more and more concerned with what the government was doing with my money. That is the difference between working people and the elites. Patrick Kennedy has no marketable skills, has never had to make a payroll or worry about paying a mortgage. The greatest gift my dad gave me was having to support myself.

Eric | 2.10.10 @ 7:41PM

The Greatest generation did'nt just rebuild a country, they paid to rebuild Europe, Japan, Philipines etc..
Obama and the progressives wont even be able to rebuild trust in the democradic party!

wwwexler| 2.11.10 @ 3:21PM

It's stupid to blame one generation for our country's problems--put the blame where it belongs: ON LIBERALS OF ALL AGES!!

Tntsgram| 2.9.10 @ 9:55AM

You are sadly mistaken; it was the government that 'discovered' billions of money in the social security fund that they insisted on funneling to welfare programs, such as medicAID. Today, seniors who have paid into the social security and medicARE program all their working lives, are being accused of taking back some of what they paid in. For instance, my father, born in 1905 worked from the time he was 8 years old, he paid into social security since it was around. When he retired, he lived 2 years and drew a small portion of what he paid in. You are wrong in saying seniors are drawing MORE then they paid in, you are looking at the 1st social security recipient not the majority of them. Grow up and get an education before you start trashing the very people that made you one of the selfish gimmee generation.

MikeD| 2.8.10 @ 7:54PM

Don't bother with Havana or East Berlin. Look at Detroit TODAY! Is it just a coincidence that the worst of our pathetic cities are all completely run by Democrats? Like Patrick Kennedy? Unfortunately, I have to agree with the thread...save your money and take it out of the Country while it's still legal. That will be the next thing...Obama will make it unlawful to remove any assets from the U.S. and then make it illegal to leave. My deep depression at the stupidity of the two generations that have gone through our public schools (A joke if I ever heard one!) has been slightly mitigated by Scott Brown's victory; in Massachusetts. That even has restored some of my faith. We'll see what happens in November. I simply cannot express my feelings for Obama and the Democratic Party in public, especially when Patrick Kennedy and Al Franken are their poster boys.

The presence of these two sub-human masses of scum indicate either the complete stupidity of the electorate in those two states; or, more likely, the presence of ACORN, SEIU, George Soros's money, and the Hollywood contingent and their total lack of patriotism or reason.

If you ever want to see something interesting; contrast the audiences between Democratic and republican campaign appearances: The Dems are drinking and cheering aimlessly. The Republicans are chanting: "USA! USA! USA!". 'Nuff said.

DG in GA| 2.8.10 @ 10:39AM

I think the day has come when the American people are ready to see ALL of the Kennedys get out of "public service" and get real jobs. It would do all of them good to work for a living.

We are watching the modern version of "The Fall of the House of Usher" as it happens. And the funny thing is: it is eerily fascinating to see this once-great family slowly disappear into its own inbred irrelevance. The "deep and dark tarn" cannot close over this soul-poisoned, nation-destroying wreckage quickly enough for me.

Paul from SA| 2.8.10 @ 11:58AM

Philosophers, historians and authors have written for centuries about the dangers of men (not women) who never face real challenges or struggles in their lives.

We see it today: childish, immature, brats who always have to have it their way. Instant gratification. No responsibility. Blame others.

The biggest problem is the liberal media. I have friends who thought Ted Kennedy was a good man. I was shocked to learn they had never heard of Chappaquidick and Mary Jo or his drinking or his womanizing.

chaynes| 2.8.10 @ 12:40PM

We dont expect geniuses, but there are three things a politican should be able to do.

Understand election returns:
Rep. Kennedy said 70% of Browns voters were from labor houselholds. Only 16% of Massachusetts workers are members of unions.

Remember peoples names:
In an interview with a reporter during the Martha Coakley/Obama rally in January, Rep Kennedy kept referring to Mrs. Coakely as "Marcia"

Know when not to lie:
In November he said that the priests in the Diocess of Providence had been told to refuse him communion. The Bishop denied Rep Kennedy's story, pointing out that if he were issue such an instruction to some hundreds priests about a prominent person, it wouldnt have stayed secret for very long.

I have always maintained that the Kennedy reputation for intelligence was based on flimsy evidence. The Machiavellian Joe Kennedy purchased that reputation by surrounding his boys with the best advisors and journalists he could buy. The current crop of Kennedys is so convinced of its genetic superiority (thank you, MSM) that it doesn't bother to let professionals speak for it. Without controls or filters, we hear Kennedys make extraordiarily dull-witted statements, which is what we should expect from very average, but very arrogant, individuals. I am very pleased that my children will not have to suffer another generation of patronizing intrusiveness from these sanctimonious frauds. Their family fortune, which allows them to be public nuisances, is gradually diffusing. When they can no longer purchase their accomplishments, the Kennedys will fade into obscurity.

Patrick Kennedy could have had a normal, healthy life, but instead he was gifted with the Kennedy albatross to wear around his neck --- the Kennedy name. He could have trained as a naval architect and made ooodles of money and had a nice, quiet, rich life. And what the heck is wrong with that?

Jason B. Kane| 2.8.10 @ 4:17PM

The Kennedys are America's cross to bear. They are a largely brainless, effete, and less wealthy each year. Known primarily for there ability to buy elections, that skill is diminishing due to the size of the tribe and the many shares of the old man's once great fortune. But they are becoming known for a unmitigatedly arrogant opinion that they are above the law that governe mere mortals. The Kennedys are ENTITLED to do what they want; when they want to whom they want and suffer no consequences.

Ah! In a couple of generations they will live in public housing, eat from food stamps and continue to babble about how important they are.

PappyHappy| 2.8.10 @ 5:40PM

Time for Patrick to find someone else to pay for his 'rehab' costs, and give him a pay check. When we lower our standards to his level, no wonder our Nation is broke!! Fee sorry for him no longer!

PCC| 2.8.10 @ 6:11PM

The WWII generation of Kennedys sacrificed three sons to public service. Can any of you say the same?

Why don't you all show a modicum of self-respect and let the man rest in peace.

john 2000| 2.8.10 @ 6:53PM

Hi Ho Hi Ho Time for Patrick to join Joe in Murtha's Vineyard.

Wasn't the old man a bootlegger who sacrificed his own slow mentally challenged daughter to a brainectomy due to embarrassment?

Lullaby's, Legends and Lies| 2.8.10 @ 7:06PM

Show self respect? To Ted Kennedy? The guy that left a girl to die in his car for 10 hours? No!!

And by the way, the Kennedy's sacrificed only one son to "true" public service, and that was their oldest, Joe in WW-II.

John stole the Presidential election (in surprise, surprise, of all places Chicago), and was well on his way, to being voted out of office, until that day in Dallas when he became Saint John forever.

Robert? I felt bad for him, he was one of the earliest victims of a Muslim terrorist in America, but he was still a big part of a truly failed Presidency (JFK). So maybe, he might have been a great President, but I doubt it, but we'll never know now.

And then what about Ted? Well he was an absolute embarrassment, as a Husband, a Father, and most certainly, as a United States Senator (from his earliest days, right up until the forced fed Healthcare Bill in his last days). Don't try to turn him into the next Saint from the Kennedy Clan, nobody will ever fall for it.

And saying they sacrificed their sons to public service, what? What are you talking about? Old Joe forced them into politics, because he was never going to be President himself, and he knew that. And he wanted his family to be powerful and respected, no matter the cost (well he got one, but unfortunately for him, the other one has to be earned).

"Can any of you say the same?" Well PCC, can you, or your family say the same? Get off your high horse, and stop drooling over the Kennedy's, you sound like an ass!!

You replied to your own comment. "The WWII generation of Kennedys." Point taken. I agree that Joe Jr. was a true hero who gave his life for his country while engaged in a top secret mission that remained secret for a long time. And; JFK was also a hero, wounded in the line of duty. Nobody can, or should, ever minimize their contributions during WWII. Now...

Having said that, Joe Sr. was a Nazi sympathizer who had to be recalled from the Court of St. James (Look it up!) because he disgraced his Country with his big mouth. He amassed a fortune through illegal bootlegging and was involved in organized crime up to his neck. He admitted buying the presidency for JFK when he bragged about not "...buying one more vote than necessary from my friends in Chicago!" John would scrzw ANYTHING with a pulse and took his bimbos to the White House!

Ted was a murdering thug who was every bit as bad as John when it came to women. He was a bully who didn't give a damn about anything or anybody but buying fame and his 'legacy' with whatever currency it took, even if that was a young woman's life. It was altogether fitting that Scott Brown replaced him and killed that abominable healthcare abortion! There! I've said it and I'm glad!

(1) There is a battle taking place around the world and it amounts to the SLAVERY of Islam vs. the Freedom of Christianity. The USA being the base and stronghold of Christian Freedom.
(2) Islam will not coexist in Christian America. Islam cannot accept our Constitution, our Rights, our Freedoms, including Freedom of Religion. If America falls, the world falls. And they know it.
(3) Obama is not a friend to Christians nor American traditions. He does not see the USA as deserving of world leadership.
(4) Obama is a Narcissist, a racist, a Socialist. He respects Dictators.
(5) As seen in his “State of the Union” - he loathes our Constitution and the Supreme Court. He has stated that in his own words in audio and video viewable at www.ameritianity.com.
(6) We are witnessing a setback for Socialism because “THE PEOPLE” have awakened
(7) The Role of Religion - Now we need to remove the Tax Threat from the IRS against ministers speaking the truth from the pulpit in the same way that the Supreme Court has said the Right to Free Speech does not stop a the front door of Corporations.
(8) Obama wants to control where the power lies in America. The power lies where the wealth is. He wants the POWER to lie in the Unions (now own 2 car companies) and the Federal Govt.
(9) Haiti - look where the AID is coming from, the CAPITALIST NATIONS
(10) Healthcare - WILL REMAIN PRIVATE
(11) Waterboarding & Freedom

Peter | 2.8.10 @ 9:46PM

Funny, I seem to recall that everyone's families made big sacrifices during WW2, just about everyone of the right age went into uniform, everyone else worked raising food and in the war industries.

Joe Jr. was killed as a flier, along with many, many thousand others, including my ex-wife's father who never came back from the Polesti raids. I guess that makes me qualified to be a drunken lout in the Congress.

Oooh, and JFK! what a hero. Went out and got run over by a Japanese Destroyer. Um, why wasn't he watching where he was going? where were his lookouts? Even a darkened ship can be seen against the sky as well as the wakes being phospherescant (sp? I'm not inclined to reach for my Webster's Unabridged right now). Some hee-row. If his name were John Frank Kilroy he'd have been court martialed for negligent homicide. And that's not even counting his being shipped to the Pacific for messing with that suspected German spy lady.

Political types have always managed unearned medals, like LBJ getting a Silver Star for being "shot at" while flying as an observer. Not that any of the other guys on that plane saw the Japanese aircraft, nor could anyone find any battle damage. Siver Star on his chest, LBJ went back to Comngress where, eventually, he helped the hee-row JFK get involved in the Southeast Asian War Games where fifty-eight thousand of my brothers were killed and hundreds of thousands of us were wounded.

Forgive me if I don't swoon over that pack of hyenas, the Kennedys.

Dan| 2.9.10 @ 1:01AM

Your right, from what I've read JFK had a gravy train assignment in D.C.
I think it was J. Edgar Hoover who warned Joe about his son's involvement with a possible German Spy. Seems like they thought the wise thin to do was to transfer him to the Pacific, before he got into trouble.

tj| 2.8.10 @ 10:17PM

This addiction impaired man is clearly very stupid. We can't affort this type of representative any more.

Mac MacDiarmid| 2.8.10 @ 10:50PM

One nice thing about America is that everyone has the right to make a perfect ass of oneself. It is nice to see that Patrick Kennedy is availing himself of that right to the fullest.

Cadela| 2.8.10 @ 11:50PM

Hey Patrick, just slam down the rest of that vodka, at least then you won't be running your mouth.

InStitches| 2.8.10 @ 11:55PM

An idiot makes an idiotic statement and it's worthy of a column and comments! Patrick Kennedy's brain at best was perhaps the size of a pinto bean. And it has been assaulted with every pill known to pharmacoepia and drowned in a sea of booze, and we expect profundity?

Ah, but the author tells us Patrick is bi-polar! A drunk, a pill-popper, poor driver and suffers from mood swings. Wow! The Curse of the Kennedys.

Whatever the behavior, give it a name and forgive it. We have ADD. ADHDD, AA, Autism, Dyslexia, Sexual addiction - and they all have a seat in Congress.

I was once looking at a car and I told the salesman I would think about it, I would come bck tomorrow. He said "No you can't do that. I only work on weekends. I am bi-polar." I said, "Well, that is a helluva "close". What happens if I don't buy it today? What are we looking at - manic or deep depression? Are you gonna start stripping cars and throwing hubcaps at me?" I knocked his mental crutch out from under him and left.

What did folks expect from the drunkard Teddy who drove his wife to drink? Even Patrick's Aunt Rosemary was an indication that something was amiss in that family. Old Joe ordered up a lobotomy forher,, thinking that would make her feel better.

Young Teddy knew his daddy well enough to drown his problems in booze. He must have heard the guy who wisely said, "I would rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy."

So, in keeping with that Dynasty stuff, here comes goony looking Patrick, looking for a ride on the government gravy train. Nothing available in Massachusetts - let's try the smallest state in the Union - Rhode Island can be bought pretty cheaply. So, we get an oaf with the wattage of a refrigerator light bulb and when he's not drunk, he's hallucinating on Ambien. And voting for our Health Care.

Will he get re-elected? Probably. The Kennedy torch was passed - to a chimp than cannot even flick a Bic!

arch| 2.9.10 @ 12:33AM

If he is so against this man holding this office, then why doesn't he run against him when re-election time comes about! This seat belongs to the state of Mass., not the Kennedys! Grow up!

Paul in Mass| 2.9.10 @ 1:40AM

I have voted for Ted Kennedy every time he was on the ballot, as my siblings have done and as our parents did before us, out of loyalty and in solidarity with a family that suffered great loss in service to our country.

With Teddy's death, that debt has been cancelled and it is not transferable to the next generation.

As Tom Wolfe aptly notes in 'Bonfires of the Vanities', the ultimate value for Jews is Truth, for Italians, Beauty, and for the Irish, Loyalty.

We stayed loyal to the memory of Joe, Jr., Jack and Bobby, and we're proud of it.

Edward Moore Kennedy, RIP.

Nick| 2.9.10 @ 2:02AM

Paul,

You have nothing to be proud of, you should be ashamed.
It is because of moronic Mics like you, and your family, that our country is in the shape it is in. Didn't your parents teach you how to think for yourself?

And why doesn't your stupidity...er...I mean "loyalty" transfer to the next generation? Didn't they also suffer?

You voted for a drunken whore, who let a woman die in his car rather than get caught drunk driving with a woman not his wife. You should beg for forgiveness.

Occam's Tool| 9.8.10 @ 5:15PM

Richard Baker| 2.9.10 @ 7:28AM

Her name was Inga Arvad and JFK called her Inga Binga. She was a friend of Herman Goering and other top Nazis. JFK was in Naval Intelligence at the time and Old Joe had him transfered to the Pacific so that the scandal of the son of the former Ambassador to Great Britain sleeping with and publicly socializing with a friend of the Nazis wouldn't become public. The Kennedys have the morals of Tomcats. Finally, we're rid of the majority of them in politics.

Elaine| 2.9.10 @ 8:40AM

I've always thought that the Kennedy fairy tale was just that, a fairy tale. As elitists, these people beleive that thay are modern day royalty, somehow better than the rest of us and, therefore entitled to whatever they want. To hell with the great unwashed masses.

Eagle| 2.9.10 @ 8:54AM

The only joke I see here is another Kennedy, running his mouth. I for one have never seen what the folks in the east see in this family. So many have been in trouble with the law. And not to even get into a dead young woman that Old Teddy, has never has to answer for. I hope the people wake up and throw this one out of office as well.

Tntsgram| 2.9.10 @ 10:13AM

I don't understand what people see in them either Eagle. If people read their history before they voted, they would see the Kennedy fortune was amassed by Joe during the prohibition AND during the Great Depression. This family has always taken from the people in the U.S., and particularly, the people they profess to want to help through welfare and all the gimmee's they always proport. That way, they have aided a new society of welfare bums that will blindly vote them into office without seeing all their flaws. The Kennedy's are a bunch of liars, thieves, drunks, and sexual predators, and in Teddy's case a murderer.
