Zinn, a Marxist whose revisionist A People's History of the United States has been forced on a generation of helpless college students, died Wednesday at 87.
Zinn considered Obama to be a moderate and described corporations as "monsters trying to devour as much profit as possible at anyone's expense."
This attitude permeates academia, the media, the Democrat-controlled Congress, and the Obama administration, all of which view corporations as threats to the continuing existence of the Republic.
Leftists hate corporations because they despise the profit motive, and perhaps more importantly, because view corporations as part of the political right. Of course the notion that corporations are inclined to the political right is a myth that has remarkable staying power. This false idea has persisted because it serves the interests of the left.
Contrary to popular belief, corporations are by their nature timid when dealing with pressure groups. When pressed, virtually all major corporations bow to the agenda of the left. Try to think of the last time you heard of a corporation standing up to thuggish shakedown artists like ACORN and Al Sharpton. Many CEOs of mega-corporations, such as GE's Jeffrey Immelt and Wal-Mart's Mike Duke, ardently endorse leftist goals. Banks like Goldman Sachs support government-expanding carbon emission controls and big insurance companies support ObamaCare.
A 2006 study by my employer, Capital Research Center, examined the tax returns of charitable foundations of Fortune 100 companies and found they overwhelmingly favor groups that advocate for bigger government and tougher regulations. In fact, every year we used to publish a report called Patterns of Corporate Philanthropy, and every year the data provided by the corporations showed the same thing.
In the preface to the 1996 edition, economist Milton Friedman criticized corporations that financially support those who seek their downfall. "I see little reason to expect the business community to change its current suicidal behavior with respect to philanthropy," the late Nobel laureate wrote.
Anti-corporate sentiment has reached a fever pitch in recent days as President Obama and the rest of the left rage against the Supreme Court's Jan. 21 decision in Citizens United v. FEC that struck down the McCain-Feingold law's prohibition on corporate political spending, finding it a particularly odious variety of censorship.
Liberal anger is misplaced. Anyone who has studied the Constitution knows that the decision simply reaffirmed the court's longstanding position that speech –especially political speech— merits protection.
As Justice Anthony Kennedy wrote for the majority, "Because speech is an essential mechanism of democracy—it is the means to hold officials accountable to the people—political speech must prevail against laws that would suppress it by design or inadvertence."
But common sense is in short supply in progressive circles and leftists' paroxysms of rage have helped to remind Americans how much the left has always hated economic freedom and corporations –especially American corporations.
At the State of the Union address on Wednesday President Obama acted like some chest-beating Latin American caudillo when he took the highly unusual step of chastising Supreme Court justices seated in front of him.
Interrupted by loudly cheering Democrats, America's first Marxist president attempted to intimidate the high court that dared to defy him.
"With all due deference to separation of powers last week the Supreme Court reversed a century of law that I believe will open the floodgates for special interests including foreign corporations to spend without limit in our elections," said Obama. "I don't think American elections should be bankrolled by America's most powerful interests, or worse, by foreign entities. They should be decided by the American people and I'd urge Democrats and Republicans to pass a bill that helps correct some of these problems."

Obama is far higher in dignity than a marxist-- or crypto-marxist-- such as Zinn. I think many of those who work for Obama are naive neo-marxists, but not Obama himself. He is winner; marxists are losers.

Obama is indeed a naïf - I believe his apparent "dignity" stems from his patina of supreme serenity and self-confidence.
But this serenity and self-confidence are the result of a witches brew of megalomaniacal messianism, willful ignorance and utter immaturity.
In the end, despite the left's constant sightings of gravitas - even in the crease of his pant leg - he is not a serious person.
He is a phony and a loser like all the rest.
Maybe if he juts his chin out just a little more.

While the person of the candidate (or incumbent) is important and necessary thoroughly to examine (Fellatorily deferential hagiography does not count as examination.), equally important are the persons whom the candidate would bring with him (or her) to assist him (or her) with duties of office. An Administration is not just one person; rather it is a team with the office-holder or candidate as its center.

I read part of 'Peoples' History', as much as could be stomached it was like Grimm's Fairytales without the dragons-- save for the dragons in Zinn's mind.

The left's angst at this ruling is just another testament to the power of free speech. They hate it because if left unchecked, it will be their undoing.
The left were well on the way to quelling opposition speech when to their dismay Rush employed the weapon of talk radio and beat them back. Then Al Gore's invention of the internet was foolishly allowed to fall into the hands of the enemy and now they are on their heels struggling for every inch that can be gained back. Watch out, low blows are to be expected.

First, God bless Rush Limbaugh.
Think of the millions of Americans he has empowered over the years by reflecting our thoughts ...and often articulating them and encouraging us to think the thoughts through.
He may have been one of the key forces that birthed FOX...showed them that they had a solid niche available.
Even though Soros and Obama cashed in first on internet communications, (netroots), the internet in COMBINATION with the tea-party movement looks as though we just might sweep all the America haters away.
The internet has allowed that "center right" national consensus we have all heard about develop, and I'm not sure any of us can imagine the true power we can bring to bear over time....uh, and in hours as well...witness Massachusetts.

Your Welcome and thank you. I started listening to Rush in the late eighties, I couldn't believe someone was on the Radio expressing my views professionally and articulately and getting away with it. I first watched Fox News while on vacation, didn't have it on my cable yet. The host said Wayne Lapierre from the NRA was coming on directly, I almost turned off the set expecting the usual hectoring and condescending attitude from the interviewer. Fortunately I left it on and was amazed, and I mean amazed, that he was allowed to speak his piece and express his thoughts fairly.
Read something the other day I thought was pretty funny. I can't remember who said it, but it concerned Fox News finding a niche in the American public and someone said, "Yeah, fifty percent of the people in America."

This country is so polarized that no amount of ads by any group, company or organization would be likely to sway the majority of voters. I like many voters have a few “no compromise” positions, such as abortion and gun control. If the party doesn’t stand on the same side of those two issues as I do no amount of ads will ever change my mind.
Let companies waste their money on ads….it won’t change anything!

Just to narrow the focus a bit-corporations are not beholden to any country & in fact work towards an iterest that may or may not be better
for the public. Too, a company like GM sells more cars abroad than in the US. Thus GM (& nearly all 'foreign' companies) will be able to control who gets to the top in US politics, now that the Supremes have opened Pandora$ box.
