A Further Perspective

Thank You, Massachusetts

The Commonwealth of America’s heroes comes through.

You stood up for yourselves, you went to the polls and — hallelujah — you did a great thing for the rest of us. Unlike you, we have been politically helpless to stop this march to dependency, this latest power grab, and this next government expansion into our lives that is wrongly dubbed “health care reform.” You alone had the chance to stop it, and you did by electing Scott Brown to the United States Senate. You are America’s heroes!

Long before you even went to the polls the opposition’s excuse crowd was explaining why you were going to reject their candidate. You thought Martha Coakley was dull or arrogant or uninterested or unfriendly. She took breaks from campaigning; she didn’t go door to door or stand in the cold to shake hands; and she made awful gaffes. Like she didn’t even know who Curt Schilling is. So all those talking heads took to the airways to say what a lousy candidate she is, no wonder she lost. Certainly, they insisted, the choice made by the voters of the Bay State had nothing — absolutely nothing — to do with those issues that motivated the folks at all those town halls last summer. And definitely you were not thinking of the same issues that produced those events named after the original Boston Tea Party — such as too much taxing and spending and government intrusion into our lives. Nope. You elected the candidate who feels the same way you do, but only because Ms. Coakley does not know a Red Sox from a Yankee.

But the rest of us suspect that you did have some other thoughts. We have a hunch that issues such as independence, self-reliance, individual initiative, and local responsibility are as much on your minds as they are on ours. That you know our freedoms are worth keeping and that you — and we — don’t like being asked to give them up. Whether you call yourselves Democrats, Republicans or Independents, turning your rights and responsibilities over to bureaucrats is lousier than even Martha Coakley’s campaign. So thank you, Massachusetts, thank you so much.

Massachusetts just joined Virginia and New Jersey. Can Obama name any other states in the union?

No kings in America. Thank you, my home state of Massachusetts.

Now let's get to work. There's a lot more to do.

Cynthia Thomas | 1.20.10 @ 9:12AM

Great article, the title say's it all...THANK YOU MASSACHUSETTS!!!!!!!!!!

Alan Brooks| 1.20.10 @ 10:09AM

Dream on. Massachusetts is going to be like Oklahoma?
Not even Oklahoma is fiscally conservative in the 21st century. Reform welfare, the larger it becomes.

What happens is you cut services, but taxes remain high. Everyone knows that by now.

DaveS| 1.20.10 @ 10:27PM

I lived the first twenty-one years of my life in Massachusetts and have ached for something really to be thrilled about that emanates from there (aside from the Red Sox, Celtics and Patriots.) This is particularly so after being forced to endure Margaret Marshall, et al, for one example. I was forteen when Ted decided to swim the Chappaquidick. Thank you, voters, of my native state. And I hope the sentiment spreads to neighboring NY where I've lived the past twenty-six years.

Richard Baker| 1.20.10 @ 6:34AM

Congratulations to Senator-elect Brown. The Kenyan is now 3 for 3 in elections where he shows up. Should we ask for him to do more?

DD| 1.20.10 @ 7:42PM

YES,we should collect funds to pay for his future trips to support other Democrat candidates in running elections. This is the sure formula to get rid of all these skunks, have Obama make a speach in their behalf...

Joe Dozer| 1.20.10 @ 6:42AM

I hope you noted that Coakley thanked Bill Clinton and the Kennedy family in her concession speech, but not our dull-witted, Islamomarxist Uberfuhrer.

CB| 1.20.10 @ 7:02AM

I noticed that too last night. Now I'm waiting to see how many in the media will report it.

Ken (Old Texican)| 1.20.10 @ 11:02AM

Yeah Joe Dozer! I did note that at the time. Thanks for reminding me. (I must admit a wee taste in celebration after Senator Brown's acceptance speech.) heh. ...and I forgot.

Stephanie| 1.20.10 @ 7:24AM

I did notice she didn't bring up barry last night.
His speech on Sunday was weak and he was totally thown off balance when the hecklers went after him. I had this vision when he came out to speak and he leans in to hug Coakley he says in her ear, "what was you name again?"
what a looser. You could tell his heart wasn't in it.

Ret. Marine| 1.20.10 @ 8:05AM

yeah nice to see the "won" knocked back to earth with this 3 for 3 misery index of the lib rot types. I wonder if he can find the next of the 57 states he and his minions will loose without the help of AF-1. Our new slogan should now be, no and you're fired in place of his dope and challanged.

Lullaby's, Legends and Lies| 1.20.10 @ 8:20AM

After a lifetime of being a NY Yankees fan, and really learning to hate the Boston Red Sox, it kills me to say this, but I am so proud of the People of the Great State of Massachusetts this morning. Thank you so much, for putting the brakes on, and telling the Democratic Party, stop, no more!! But once spring training begins, well, all bets are off, and I will continue my lifetime of hatred of the Boston Red Sox, okay? Let's Go Yankees!!

BobSledd| 1.20.10 @ 8:24AM

Massachussets patriots...
Thank you for saving the Union, for preserving Liberty, and opposing tyranny as your forefathers did 200+ years ago.
You will also find your mark in History for repelling attacks on our freedom, our liberty, and our independence.
Thank you from New Jersey..
I too, am a lifelong Yankee fan but today, I am a proud member of the Red Sox Nation!!!
Thank you, thank you, thank you...

"BY the rude bridge that arched the flood,
Their flag to April's breeze unfurled,
Here once the embattled farmers stood,
And fired the shot heard round the world. "

Al Adab| 1.20.10 @ 10:54AM

The same poem came to my mind. Who would have thought that Mass would be the source once again? It is a measure of the depth of dissafection that even the "People's Republic" a socialist utopia took a stand against this Leftist jugernaut.

The other quote would be, "If they mean to have a war, let it begin here."
Thanks Mass. May we all share your courage.

TennesseeVolunteer| 1.20.10 @ 9:05AM

Well done Massachusetts...Patriots All!

GeorgieGirl| 1.20.10 @ 9:26AM

As a New Yorker whose next door neighbor is Berkshire County MA, I literally feel that someone's now "got my back". Thank you MA!!!!!!!!!

Dagny Taggert| 1.20.10 @ 9:33AM

You're welcome. I'd gladly do it again! How about Charlie Baker for governor and Bill Hudak to get rid of the loathesome John Tierney in my 6th congressional district?

Roscoe| 1.21.10 @ 6:06AM

How about you also get rid of the loathsome John Kerry?

drudge ette obama| 1.22.10 @ 5:25AM

We'll need two elections for Kerry to cover his big pie face.

magua| 1.20.10 @ 9:42AM

Thank you Massachusetts !!!

Listen now you inside-the-beltway statists posing as "blue-dog moderates": This is a great time for a paradigm shift. Have one, or you'll suffer the same humiliation Marsha Croakly just endured. You might say your political career will "croak" too.

Batgirl| 1.20.10 @ 10:27AM

Yes, thank you very much Massachusetts.

1)The liberals are saying it was the independents that deserted them. Seems to me that those independents were a large portion of the Tea Parties this past summer.
2)It may have been helpful too when Obama on the stump Sunday called Massachusetts the "progressive" state.

Ray| 1.20.10 @ 10:27AM

Congratulations to Senator-Elect Brown! May you be seated soon! And may you serve your constituents well, for two terms!

A win for Massachusetts and a win for the United States of America!

Did you hear? When Obama phoned Scott Brown right after victory was declared? "When I spoke to the President, the first thing I said was, would you like me to drive the truck down to Washington so you can see it?”
Back atcha, Pres.!
Love it!!
My kind of guy.

Enduring Patriot| 1.20.10 @ 12:08PM

What was done by our forefathers on December 16, 1773, was repeated with the same zest for freedom from a smothering Government when The People of Massachuessetts elevated Scott Brown to The People's Seat. Thank you Massachussetts. Thank you Great People of a Great Country!

MTB| 1.20.10 @ 2:06PM

Yes, THANK YOU, Massachusetts. Now, get rid of Barney Frank--the real cause of our current economic crisis through his defense of Franklin Raines and rejection of imposing more controls and Fannie and Freddie while loosening the normal restrictions on home buying to make it possible for lower income people to buy homes they cannot afford. The Community Reinvestment Act was engineered to fail and collapse our economy, thereby ushering in the election of our current president, Congress and Senate.

ed| 1.20.10 @ 9:13PM

That fact is not mentioned enough. CRA as pushed and enforced by Clinton and Dems in Congress is what started the whole economic meltodown via "Subprime Loans" and as always Dummycrats and the Media (pardon the redundancy) blame free enterprise and capitalism. And Barney and Obama's finger prints are all over it.

EJQ| 1.20.10 @ 2:53PM

Now lets keep these weak wristed leftists on the run, NO MORE COMPROMISE WITH THE LEFTISTS, Let's show them how progressive The U.S.A. Really is !!!

David| 1.20.10 @ 3:17PM

Sure was nice to see a repub win who has promised to stop the health care bill. Let's hope he will do more than that. Brown is no conservative. I hope in a year he won't have earned the title RINO or Juan McCain Jr.

The repubs will probably make huge gains in 2010, and will probably win back both chambers of congress in 2012. That is one of the reasons I think Bam Bam will be re-elected in 2012.

People aren't likely to forget what a debacle it was when repubs controlled everything just a few years ago. Unless, Bam Bam makes some really damaging foreign policy mistakes, or we get attacked again, I think the average uninformed voter will be content to allow the repub congress to keep the liberal prez in check. Most people "felt" Clinton was likeable enough for a second term as long at the repub congress was in place, and most will "feel" the same about Bam Bam.

Also, too may voters will "feel" that it just wouldn't be right and would be perceived by the world as insensitive or racist to turn out the first black prez after one term.

John from MA| 1.20.10 @ 4:26PM

He will be unseated in less than 3 years. Dont get your hopes up.

DTCOFAZ| 1.20.10 @ 4:33PM

Hopefully, when conservatives take back the Senate and House, they will start impeachment proceedings on Obama for treason. He has not upheld our constitution.

We in California applaud you Patriots in
Massachusetts! You are the greatest and we stand with you. Change is coming, and it will be real change, not the vauge promises that leave us wanting. Change out the scoundrels, Pelosi and Boxer are the next to find out that when the citizens are ridiculed, villified and ignored that there will be consequences.

"You can't put the genie back in the bottle" ... as a great bard from our generation sings.

Massachusetts ROCKS!

I would like to thank all the voters of Massachusetts! Your vote was my voice, and my vote! Now maybe we can get rid of Pelosi and the other criminals that have bribed and bargained with our tax dollars! Thank you so much from Tennessee for making the Administration finally hear us, the voters!!!

Hawaii Conservative | 1.21.10 @ 3:10AM

GOD bless you MA!
You have restored our faith! You stood for liberty against tyranny over 200 years ago and you stood against liberty over tyranny yesterday. Your votes have inspired many! There are no longer 'safe seats' in the House and Senate. They are again the 'people's seats' and the people are awakening. MA voters, you have accomplished more than you may ever know! Thank you and Aloha!

WE THE PEOPLE...

Late in life now, distraught and depressed over the State of Our Nation, tears welled and flowed freely in the realization that the Founder's faith in the determination of a free citizen to protect and defend the American experiment could not and would not fail.

Those who shed their blood and gave life in that determination may again rest in peace.

Thank you, We the People of Massachusetts and all America!
