What is particularly interesting here -- and a key to the success of the entire Virtual Newsroom -- is that the Virtual Newsroom itself is a living, breathing example of what Levin calls Adam Smith's devotion to free markets as "spontaneous order."
No one "has" to write or broadcast a particular story. It's a free market in story ideas out there on the Virtual Newsroom floor. As a result, creativity reigns. A million different ideas float through the Virtual Newsroom on any given day, with the journalists in the room looking them over as if at some giant intellectual smorgasbord. What appeals to The American Spectator may not interest National Review. What turns on Breitbart may enthuse Beck but not Hannity. The curiosity of Michelle Malkin on an issue may not appeal to a Jed Babbin at Human Events. Launching Laura is not the same as ticking off Ann. What gets Rush's adrenaline flowing…well…generally speaking Rush gets everybody's adrenaline flowing.
The problem for American progressives today -- be they the activists of ACORN, Van Jones, the So We Might See group or others -- is that they are unaccustomed to finding themselves on the receiving end of this kind of attention from the journalists, commentators, investigators, talk radio hosts, television stars and authors of the Virtual Newsroom. It is safe to say that whatever else went on in the three stories listed here, the scoundrels at ACORN, Mr. Jones, and the So We Might See-ers were taken aback at the fact they -- they! -- were suddenly under the Virtual Newsroom microscope for their public activities. Accustomed to velvet-gloved treatment from their progressive buddies in the Old Media, they simply never factored the existence of the Virtual Newsroom into the equation.
Newsflash to progressives. The Virtual News room is here to stay. Not only is it not going away -- in spite of whatever shenanigans may be going on behind the closed doors of the FCC -- it is gaining in both size and strength.
And gaining in something else that simply terrifies progressive activists everywhere: the power to seriously influence events.
Which is why, when all is said and done by December 31, it is already clear that the story of the year in 2009 is not President Obama, health care, Iraq or even Tiger Woods.
The story of 2009 is the emergence of a new and powerful player increasingly dominating American politics, culture, education, religion and who knows what else.
That player is the media that is the Virtual Newsroom. And the conservatives who run it.

Since everyone over the age of 5 has a camera phone nowadays, virtually everyone is a Papparazzi. It makes me laugh to hear the predictable shrieks about Loss of Privacy when security cameras are posted downtown, while the whole thing is recorded by mobs of wireheads taking photos of each other taking photos of the installation of the hated cameras -- to be posted on Facebook, Twitter and other BlabberSites, right next to the photos of the camera brigades nekkid boobies and backsides and of their friends vomiting outside high end night clubs and urinating on war memorials....
The New Media apparently consists of people trying to catch other people doing something wrong, bad mannered or simply disgusting, and transmit the evidence world wide.
Yes, the Virtual Newsroom covers actual bad guys doing bad things. Around here the current craze is catching cops parking in bike lanes, handicapped parking spaces and other illegal places. However, the sheer volume of noise that surrounds this craze considerably overpowers a lot of the good that is done by the Well Armed Militia armed with camera phones and no discipline at all about what it shoots.

Let's hear it for us Virtual Newsgirls (and boys). I read many articles daily and then, like choosing just the right pastry from the bakery, I select the one I feel is the best written, most timely and share it on Facebook with my 200 friends, adding my own succinct evaluation. Some friends are offended and take swipes at me (just two days ago I was accused of being a AGW denier and conspiracy theorist). Others, however, have told me that they are glad for my sharing. I figure at least some of these folks will have been at least minimally exposed to the truth and maybe... just maybe... one or two will see the light.

The reversal in power involved here is staggering. In these situations, the liberlas have not only lost their dominance, theyve lost their voice.
Just in the the last month, we have the climategate scandal. The old media still thinks that an event didnt happen unless they report it. But with that attitude, they lose the chance to make heroes of their friends and demons of their enemies. Instead of being a courageous defender of wildlife against the oil companies, our picture of Prof Jones is a of nasty sneak.
And there is Archbishop Dolan's article. When the New York Times wouldnt print to his satisfaction, he told them to forget it. Instead he put it on the internet, and thanks to Free Republic and others, millions have read it without ever seeing the New York Times, newver mind the columns he complained about or the Times' rebuttal. An amazing reversal of power.

Impeach Bush?

The bill of particulars drawn up by Ramsey Clark et al. against Bush accuses the president of everything this side of ignoring his parking tickets. The articles of impeachment have him down for bombing civilians, lying to Congress, lying to the people, giving unconstitutional orders, etc. If he were indeed guilty of one-half the charges laid against him, he'd belong not in the White House but in jail.
What stands out this time around is that there are no serious people urging impeachment. By "serious" is here intended, men and women of sobriety who weigh conscientiously what constitutes impeachable presidential behavior.
Mr. Bush is swimming in very low political tides. Although he beat down with ease the outrageous and insulting charges of Rep. Pete Stark of California, it is striking that a member of Congress felt free to indulge in that level of public obloquy. There was enough of that for Bush in the election of 2006, which was interpreted, reasonably, as a repudiation of his leadership.
If ours were a form of government patterned after that of the Europeans, Bush would probably have been replaced as leader of his party. But the majority of the American people still think of him as a man of good will and very stout heart who is pursuing his duties as he sees them, a man, moreover, of conspicuous incorruptibility. Let the people pronounce on his stewardship in November 2008.

Gee, for some reason I have the silly notion in my head that the biggest story of 2009 and perhaps the entire 21st century, is the colossal world wide fraud known as Anthropogenic Global Warming.
This corruption has its deep roots in all segments of the leftist's domain; the political establishment, the educational establishment, the media establishment and the scientific establishment.

The "progressive disease" was slowly and not so slowly infecting everything it touched -- the culture, education, religion, commerce and so on. It was "mainstreamed" -- and nowhere else were its believers more prominent than in the American media. As fate would have it, the media itself was undergoing a transformation -- technology relentlessly pushing it along in a fashion that in fact had nothing to do with the politics of the participants. The power of newspapers, magazines and books was growing as printing and distribution technology blossomed. Radio, coming on the scene in the 1920s, was reaching what would be thought of as a peak, quickly giving way not just to television but to network television.
The 1900s seems to be a century where our society & government progressed from being a nation that served a few… basically, rich white men, to a country that marketed to more Americans, & different cultures, including the old narcissistic cultures that bought them to that error.
The progressive movement forced the country to rectify many of its past & present ills.
It seems like the conservatives hate the progressive movement because it spoke a different language that tended to lean towards the people that our constitution was conceived to protect; the few from the many & the most powerful.
The Bill of Rights is supposed to represent all U.S. citizens, & not just the special interest of Conservatives. That’s how they end up with segregated water fountains & etc.

Sorry, Marcell; that dog won't hunt. Some of us have read our history. We've all lived a little of it. The Democratic Party (read: Progressives) is the party of slavery, seccesion, segregation, and socialism, and no friend to this country or its people.
1). The Democrats' position on chattel slavery was argued eloquently and passionately in the Lincoln/Douglas Debates.
2). Most of the Congressional and Senate seats that remained empty during the Civil War had been held by Democrats.
3). During the Jim Crow years there simply wasn't any Republican presence inthe South that mattered. Democratic bosses and the Klan saw to that. Those fat morons grinning out at us from the pages of Life Magazine, the Deputies and Troopers who beat people and protected the murderers of civil rights workers were all Democrats; every one of them. So were the Governors of their respective States. The House and the Senate were ruled by segregationist Democrats. Along with corrupt machine Democrats from the north they squandered vast sums on the modern welfare state. Through "blue penciling" and collusion with labor and trade unions, Democratic bosses kept Blacks "in their place" up North.
4). The Democrats' possition on statist slavery (socialism) is argued eloquently and passionately every day by everyone from Obama on down to the lowliest ACORN-style charlatan in your town or county. Hate-speech legislation, AGW, Universal Health Care (and all of the rest of it); these aren't good for anyone but the thieves who promote them.
Please take all of that "Progressives saved the Country" twaddle and tell it to the Marines.

I hope you are being sarcastic about a third party as not viable. IMO what we need is many MORE parties or at least a third party in the executive and congressional branches.
The practice of reciprocity has choked any real debate or change in national politics (i.e. Republicans = Democrats from a practical standpoint). Anytime you hear a republican speak of his "esteemed friend and colleague" on the other side of the aisle you are witnessing a total lack of debate and new viewpoints.
The main block to a third party movement is the media.....they refuse to allow any but the "chosen" to have a voice. The media actually chooses our president by ignoring all but the two anointed to be heard.....all others are marginalized or ignored.

There was a time back in the early 90s, when I brought all into the conservative media's rhetoric; they helped me purge the radical black progressives from my conscious in a way that gave me new self made power.
I thought about joining the Republican Party for years. Then I said to myself, “Do some research before you make that move.”
…I started watching Senate & House hearings on CSPAN. I researched the info that I read at sites like this. I started looking deep into the conservative's data, & I noticed that it was mostly skewed propaganda.
I even brought into studying the constitution. Conservatism rejuvenated me in ways that help me see past my angers towards America for slavery & segregation, because the people were genuine & their love for freedom was similar to what I believed in. I wanted to be in unity with those I perceived to be the defenders of our civil liberties.
I also wanted other minorities to join the cause, because I felt that the logic surrounding Conservatism were more patriotic, even though the Republican Party seemed like a Christian conservative / white supremacist movement to me. I wanted to co-opt the conservative agenda & make it my own. I wanted my presence to force the racist to flee that movement.
With that said, the skewed propaganda that I was receiving from all of the conservative media outlets helped me realize that the black nationalist are just as bad as the white nationalist who were masquerading scheme in the love of our flag, constitution & anything that looks American.
I now see your agenda as one that will undermine the original intent of our founding fathers. I use to value your love for our counstition. But, now I don't; thanks to your blind faith support for The Bu$h Crime Family.

With the traditional MSM so deep inside the pockets of the Left, it is only natural that an alternative news gathering system would emerge. Unlike the Left MSM, this new form of news gathering is less centralized, more quirky, and very fluid.
By fluid I mean ever changing. An example of this is Charles Johnson and his Little Green Football site. Just 5 years ago he was the toast of the town, as he and a few bloggers broke the Rathergate story. He did similar work concerning Reuters and thier use of photoshop to doctor photos. But, he has since flown the coop and is just another Moonbat.
This new form of news gathering is dangerous in that no one has control -just the way our founders wanted it.

That the people justly view with alarm the reckless extravagance which pervades every department of the Federal Government; that a return to rigid economy and accountability is indispensable to arrest the systematic plunder of the public treasury by favored partisans; while the recent startling developments of frauds and corruptions at the federal metropolis, show that an entire change of Administration is imperatively demanded.

That the new dogma that the Constitution of its own force carries slavery into any or all of the territories of the United States, is a dangerous political heresy, at variance with the explicit provisions of that instrument itself, with cotemporaneous exposition, and with legislative and judicial precedent, is revolutionary in its tendency and subversive of the peace and harmony of the country.
8. That the normal condition of all the territory of the United States is that of freedom; that as our republican fathers, when they had abolished slavery in all our national territory, ordained that no "person should be deprived of life, liberty or property, without due process of law," it becomes our duty, by legislation, whenever such legislation is necessary, to maintain this provision of the constitution against all attempts to violate it; and we deny the authority of congress, of a territorial legislature, or of any individuals, to give legal existence to slavery in any territory of the United States.

There are very real biological differences in human populations, one of which is average group IQ. "Equality", sans eugenics, is simply not to be. The average IQ of American Blacks is about 85, the result of White admixture, better nutrition and positive environmental stimulation throughout childhood than can be found in Africa. The average IQ of Black Africans is around 70. We have all the relevant studies to confirm just that. The contention that all human populations have (anything near) equal potential is as chimerical as the "science" behind global warming has shown to be.

1). Among the many wonders on that roster of brilliance that is the U S Constitution, I think my favorite is the separation of powers: we the people, the various States, and the Federal Government with each getting some pieces (their with our concent; what you would call that states rights bs. Sure it's not very efficient. That's the point. When the game is played by the rules what is central to our national character, and is best for all will tend to be conserved.
2). Among the most dispicable of all of the horrific practices of the socialists (and yes they have borrowed honored historical titles such as Liberal and Progressive until, soiled by such use, those must be abandoned for yet new ways to hide the truth), I thing the worst is their habit of short-circuiting the political process. Legislation through litigation, speech codes, and (with any legislative majority) ramming through unconstitutional power-grabs: that is, the consolidation of power over its separation. This stuff is purely evil.
Mr. Lord has writen a wonderful piece. The infra-structure is in place. We must now keep the lines a-hummin'. The price of liberty, as they say, is eternal vigilance. Further: the time of the socialist (Democrat, liberal, progressive) cometh as a thief in the night.

Little Green Footballs' Charles Johnson Breaks With The Right

Charles Johnson of Little Green Footballs, a conservative-leaning political blog, officially announced his break with the right in a post on Monday evening. Johnson is co-founder of Pajamas Media, and Little Green Footballs has been named one of the top 100 most popular blogs.
Succinctly titled "Why I Parted Ways With The Right," Johnson's post argues against the fanaticism of politicians like Michele Bachmann, Sarah Palin, Pat Buchanan as well as the conservative blogosphere ("Hatred for President Obama that goes far beyond simply criticizing his policies, into racism, hate speech, and bizarre conspiracy theories (see: witch doctor pictures, tea parties, Birthers, Michelle Malkin, Fox News, World Net Daily, Newsmax, and every other right wing source)"). He also cites the "anti-Islamic bigotry that goes far beyond simply criticizing radical Islam, into support for fascism, violence, and genocide." He concludes:
The American right wing has gone off the rails, into the bushes, and off the cliff.
I won't be going over the cliff with them.
This isn't the first time that Johnson has expressed discontent with the right. Dave Weigel at the Washington Independent has been tracking Johnson's political transition over the past year. "Way back in April," Weigel writes, "I talked to Charles Johnson of Little Green Footballs about his very public arguments with fellow "warbloggers" whom, he believed, had gone off the rails. Johnson told me that he'd never considered himself a 'conservative.'"

I could not agree more with this article. It is the squeaky wheel that gets the grease, and conservatives are typically a quiet bunch. In this past year I have witnessed a revolution. I'm a Canadian and have enjoyed the ride this past year. Started following U.S. politics since Obama came on the stage. I yearned daily for articles exposing him and found them in the blogoshere. Breitbart put the icing on the cake though, he exposed the leftist MSM with a huge massive spot light, and the light is starting to blind there eyes. Truly it's like a Star Wars battle of good over evil. We will prevail and I am so happy to be part of the mvement.

This is all very good, but the fact is that the old media still has the lion's share of the influence. For example, climategate has no doubt damaged the AGW movement, but it would be completely dead if the old media covered it with the way it did, say, Cheney's hunting accident.
Also, if the AGW train is derailed, as now appears plausible, at least delayed, those pushing it will be seriously ticked off, and will resolve to do whatever is necessary to make sure this sort of thing doesn't happen again. And don't think they won't try, and don't underestimate the power of the left.
The example of the Lisbon Treaty is instructive. Defeated by voters in France and the Netherlands in 2005 with national referenda rejecting the European Constitution, and with a national referendum promised by Labor before any further concessions of national sovereignty were made, one might have paused to celebrate, and to think that perhaps the eurofascists could be defeated after all. Not so. The EU elite simply bypassed democratic methods, and consolidated their power through the Lisbon Treaty, which was ratified by the governments of member states without (with few exceptions) any opportunity for the voters to weigh in. Thus, yesterday the UK (and all other EU member states) ceased to be sovereign states as the Lisbon Treaty came into effect. The extremely undemocratic EU government may now seize as much authority as it wishes, without permission from regional governments. I'm guessing they will wish for quite a lot of authority. The birth of the European superstate far eclipses the emergence of "the virtual newsroom" in importance this year, I'm afraid.
"Progressivism" is a huge and powerful evil, and while I am quite grateful for the existance of the "virtual newsroom" you speak of, the tone of your article is triumphant, and fails to convey the tenuousness of our grasp on what freedoms we retain, and the power of those who wish to take them away.

From before the Civil War up until now, the Democrats have been consistent, in this way: They have been vehemently determined to treat people differently ..... on the basis of skin color.
The Democrats demonstrated a consistent plan to institutionally keep down negroes, from the antebellum days of the nineteenth century, up until they could no longer oppose the civil rights successes of the 1950's and 60's.
Within one decade of that "loss" by the Democrats, they had recovered from that seeming knockout punch and were once again finding a rationale for treating people differently based upon skin color. They once again had a scheme for limiting citizens' options, by institutionally implementing nonuniform treatment of American citizens. Their scheme was Affirmative Action, busing, and other programs.
Negroes would now be shown institutional FAVORITISM to make up for the dis-favoritism in the past. This was the "Lyle Menendes Argument."
You may be unfamiliar with the "Lyle Menendes Argument." Eric and Lyle Menendes were found guilty of premeditated firearms murder of their parents. After their murder trial, a juror mentioned her personal anguish that Lyle Menendes did not have a mother who could visit him in prison, for comfort at Christmas, birthdays and so forth. Yes, that poor Lyle, will get no comforting visits from mom - - because HE KILLED his mom! Poor Lyle, boo hoo hoooooo! Folks, there you see the "Lyle Menendes Argument."
Well, in a similar fashion, the Democrats now work like hell to treat people differently on the basis of skin color, because in the past THEY the Democrats worked like hell to treat people differently on the basis of skin color!
Now this is not to claim that people other than Democrats did not commit discrimination. But the Democrats spearheaded the institutional policies(i.e., laws and other governmental policies) that ingrained BY LAW the necessity of treated people differently(by the most superficial of homo sapiens sapiens' anatomical qualities: skin color.)
So we see that for nearly two centuries the Democrats have been consistent. For Democrats, skin color is a matter of legal consequence. "Skin color matters."

You seem to be implying a reaction formation on a group scale rooted in a historical consciousness of what everyone "knows" "deep down" is "wrong" - namely "racism". You are a confused man.

You make two untrue propositions here, both of which render your conclusions, likewise, untrue:
1.) "Racism" was in fact "socially constructed" by means of formalization in law. Wrong, the affinity for one's more closely genetically related fellows is an evolved trait - a universal trait. Why? Because it was and is adaptive for furthering life.
2.) Race is "only skin deep". And, therefore, even if granting "birds of a feather flock together" it is of no real civilizational consequence. Again, wrong. The sub-Saharan African group IQ is around 70. And his propensity for disorder and violence is greater on average than that of Europeans even controlling for IQ.

Two centuries? Man was tribal before he was Man (I refer to his evolutionary antecedents). What you are doing here, and it is not hard to see, is projecting your own guilt-feelings for ray-cism onto what is truly a social construct (the Democratic party) that you do not identify with, thereby leveraging a sense of moral superiority to yourself via your identification with a social construction (you got it, the Republican party). Rather a silly little bit of mental gymnastics for what is in the end a paltry emotional payoff, don't you think?
Just what the hell kind of blame do you, do I, do any of us, rightly bear for affirming what is best in life, our peoplehood?
