Barack Obama said on Wednesday night that he “did not come here
just to clean up crises.” True, he also came to create them. Even
the dominant media noticed that the health care “crisis” had
grown a little less severe by Wednesday night.
Previously, Obama had cited “46 million” uninsured in America.
But in Wednesday’s speech the number of uninsured suddenly
dropped by 16 million, as Alec MacGillis
noted in the Washington Post.
“There are now more than 30 million American citizens who cannot
get coverage,” Obama said. This casual change in his apocalyptic
rhetoric once again illustrates that sorting through his
gravely-cited numbers in the tedious back-and-forth of this
debate is pointless: they usually disintegrate under close
scrutiny.
Obama’s speech was only accidentally interesting in its
propagandistic arrogance and revealing defensiveness. His anger
at “lies” grows in proportion to their accuracy.
The dictatorial tone of this passage was particularly telling:
“It’s worth noting that a strong majority of Americans still
favor a public insurance option of the sort I’ve proposed
tonight. But its impact shouldn’t be exaggerated — by the left,
the right, or the media. It is only one part of my plan, and
should not be used as a handy excuse for the usual Washington
ideological battles.”
Imagine the reaction to a Republican president issuing a scolding
like this on how political opponents and “the media” should
weight a given proposal.
In his customarily controlling manner, Obama seeks to stunt the
debate by setting up narrow propagandistic parameters for it: to
reject the bill is “politics,” to “improve” it is statesmanship.
“The time for games has passed. Now is the season for action,” he
said. But the only sane response to a bad bill is flat
opposition. Bitter experience has shown by now that “the risks”
of an inactive federal government are well worth running.
Why Obama needed to hector “the media” on the proper
interpretation of his propaganda wasn’t clear. They have worked
overtime to disseminate it and regulate Republican criticisms.
Journalists never fail to denounce the “death panel” objection to
the original end-of-life-consultation provision in the House bill
as a “myth” and “rumor.” Washington Post media critic
Tom Shales, apparently a careful student of the proposals in
between clicks of his remote, called it the “most preposterous”
of objections.
But if it is so preposterous, why hasn’t the provision been
restored to the proposals? Put it back in the bill if it is
so harmless. That Obama and his allies protest this objection so
much reveals one of the bill’s most basic weaknesses: a morally
reckless and incompetent federal government is fundamentally
untrustworthy in the eyes of the American people.
Of course, the federal government is not going to announce that
it will pressure the elderly to choose euthanasia in the hopes of
cutting costs, but if end-of-life consultations were enacted
that’s exactly what would happen. Of course, Obama is going to
say that he would never dream of subsidizing abortions in his
plan. But he already does subsidize abortions, both at home and
abroad, through his first executive orders.
To hear the Democrats in recent days talk reassuringly about the
“Hyde Amendment” that banned the federal government from paying
for most abortions, one would think they voted for it. They
didn’t. And if a stronger version of the Hyde Amendment were now
proposed, they would never support it.
Obama didn’t scream “you lie” at his opponents, but said the
equivalent more sedately, even though each objection branded a
lie is a reasonable interpretation of what the federal government
has already undertaken or he has proposed previously. To Obama,
these objections are just “details” to be “ironed out.” To
millions of Americans, they are heedless proposals that could
cost them their lives.

So 'bama didn't come to D.C. to fix crises? What planet did he come from? I guess he thought it would be nonstop Earth, Wind & Fire concerts in the Green Room. What a whiner and excuse maker. Come back at ya,'bama, twice as hard.
And this Tom Shales guy? Have they done a DNA test on him yet? Does he run? Put some lipstick on him and he'd look like a bargain shopper at the Dollar Store.

Are you thinking that maybe Howard Dean is Lee Harvey Oswald's offspring? Maybe?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but there was a mechanism built into the "Hyde Amendment" that requires it to expire and be voted on each year.
The fear of taxpayer funding of abortions could be easily dismissed by making this legislation permanent, but it will never happen. That would be a slap in the face to dear leader.
The same holds true for coverage of illegal aliens. Twice amendments have submitted, twice they have been shot down.
And the president wonders why everyone is all "wee-weed up".

How could you possibly rely on such wishful thinking from the electorate that put Obama in the WH?
1. No veto possible
2. Blue state election safe majority in house.
3. Fifty one vote reparation in the Senate.
If this fails the only firing squad will be circular. Only massive public outcry will prevent this, beltway dissent by the RINO will evaporate and any representative with stones will be simply labeled "obstructionist."

Is it just me or has anyone else noticed Obama has still not submitted a Heath-Care Bill to Congress. The “Plan” of which President Obama recently gave a speech to Congress was a vague list of dubious assertions not a submittable Bill to Congress.
The Health-Care Bills under discussion originated in the House and apparently unknown by Obama and his minions. The Health-Care Bill was created by Pelosi's minions so is it surprising Obama's assertions are untouched by reality. Is it I am the only person who noticed Obama gave a speech about a alternate reality known only to him and only believed in by his minions. Could it be Obama is so witless Obama does not understand he has to submit a fully conceived bill to Congress to claim credit for a Congressional Bill. Could it be Obama is so delusional he believes to say it so makes it so.

Dixie: A quick thought before I get back to watching old Bullwinkle cartoons. Professor Obama, like most of the people I work with, is neither witless nor delusional. He is fairly bright and he knows exactly what he wants, regardless of whether what he wants is good for the rest of us.
I think Mona Charen had her hand on the man's ideological pulse some weeks back when, in a passing comment on the asinine Professor Gates contretemps and Professor Obama's too-sudden public response, she said: "Mr. Obama adopts his positions before knowing what he is talking about." Whence his absurd blather on "health care."
The really significant thing about the advent of the Obamanation, I believe, is that it represents a sea change in the character of governance. It used to be, not too many years ago, that academia was the only place in America where people who don't know what they're talking about enjoy praise and material advancement for talking. That condition has now been extended to the federal government at the highest levels.
In academia one could always assure oneself that a principal service provided by the modern university to the larger culture is to keep a potentially dangerous class of people busy and off the streets--in short, the university has evolved into a relatively humane asylum whose inmates can do little harm to the "real world."
The advent of the Obamanation indicates that the walls of the asylum have collapsed.

Sir, You may have missed my point. The President has been claiming he has submitted a Health-Care bill with defined language in it. However the bills in Congress has a very different wording in the bills. The point is the Health-Care bill the President describes does not match the House bill. In fact, I can not recall if the President did submit a bill to Congress. I have not seen or heard which Representative member submitted the bill to what subcommittee. In short I do not believe the President created or submitted the bill he describes to Congress.
If I am correct this will explain why the President Obama seems so delusional about his own Health-Care Bill. In short Obama is talking about a fictional bill which exists only in his mind while Congress is working on the real legislation.

Dixie Pixie, he say it was his plan. There is no proposed legislation that fits exactly with what he said but I suspect will be shortly - from one of the several committees. Why it takes so many groups to draw up a piece of legislation, I will never appreciate it. All of his speeches over the past months was based on his fictional legislation. This was the first time he ever came close to telling the public what he wanted. He did not want to say that he wanted "XX" if it were not going to be enacted - that would be a turndown and that is not in his making. He does not make mistakes! I think that there will be a health care law, but doubt that he will get a public option at the start. There will be a trigger. At this point his plan is fiction but it will take wings and something will pass and only a couple-to-few Repubs voting for it. Maybe McShame will vote for it since he got some face time at the Big Wingding and took a bow for helping Obama.
John II| 9.11.09 @ 7:17PM
Dixie. I didn't miss your point; I took exception to the language you used to speculate about Professor Obama's condition of mind. It is, no doubt, a kinder guess to suppose that Professor Obama is "delusional"--that he's mentally unhinged in some way. But I don't think his trouble is mental; I think it is moral. He is not delusional; he is a liar.
For a fuller explanation without my grumpy cynicism, please check Tom Sowell's piece in today's NRO. And now back to Bullwinkle.

The RINO fix is in. Drudge has reported this morning that the WH has decided to include language in the health care legislation that excludes illegal aliens. Some call our President Emperor Hussein but I prefer the name Abu Hussein from Kenya, our Community Organizer-in-Chief. Well - his only "working" experience was as a) community organizer; b) lawyer for community organizers; and c) law instructor for future lawyers for community organizers. As a former refugee from a communist country I am familiar with community organizations - except there they were called local soviets or block committees.
Also about ACORN brownshirts who "sold" about 500,000 houses to welfare recipients (you know, "underserved minorities") and are now the proud recipients of $8.5 billion in "stimulus" money. They committed voter fraud in all 50 states but were caught in only 14; these 14 "investigations" will all be squashed by the AG Holder as without basis. They will also be reistated as the group responsible for the 2010 census after they fire perhaps 6 "irresponsible" members.
As for the 33 so-called czars in the White House - to me and other refugees from communism they were better known as komissars. The place of the Green komissar is temporarily vacant, but will shortly be filled by another eco-nazi. Of course, as soon as we get this government takeover of health care insurance industry we will get still another komissar there. OK - the picture of our future is becoming somewhat clearer, you will admit?

I hear that the Democrats want to cut Medicare by $500 billion. Obviously, this would have an extremely negative impact on senior citizens. It is outrageous and totally unacceptable. Similarly, Obama wants to eliminate Medicare Advantage plans administered by private insurers, even though they work very well.
Who would be the beneficiary of all these Medicare cuts? Answer: illegal aliens and millions of citizens who are still working, who Obama plans to force into government-run medical insurance. The best thing the House and the Senate can do right now is Nothing. The proposed legislation, which seems to change every few hours, is loaded with features that would reduce the quality of medical care in the United States. Despite all the noise, the fact is that we have the best medical care in the world. We don't need more socialism; we have too much already.
Representative Joe Wilson is correct: Obama is a liar. He is also a socialist who would like to destroy all private medical care, the Constitution, my freedom, and my life. I sent Congressman Wilson a thank you note, and a check.

Here is a critical element of the Obama speech. Aside from waste, fraud and abuse, he says:
"Much of the rest would be paid for with revenues from the very same drug and insurance companies that stand to benefit from tens of millions of new customers. And this reform will charge insurance companies a fee for their most expensive policies, which will encourage them to provide greater value for the money — an idea which has the support of Democratic and Republican experts. And according to these same experts, this modest change could help hold down the cost of health care for all of us in the long run."
So how should we interpret this carefully phrased passage? Will PPO policies subsidize HMO policies? Will those with pre-existing conditions subsidize those without? It is time to bring the hidden assumptions into view!
Dixie Pixie| 9.13.09 @ 5:29PM

I am sorry to interrupt your study of the Rocky and Bullwinkle show. I can understand your interest as Snidely Whiplash is rumored to be the next “Czar of Nonexistence Death Panels” and Obama is modeling his administrative role on “Fearless Leader”. The original “Fearless Leader” not the Robert De Niro version.
Over the summer the health-care debate has centered around HR3200 and its provisions. Then Obama gave his speech to both Houses of Congress. During the speech I was surprised that Obama was ignoring the entire summers debate by giving much the same speech he was giving during the campaign. Then it hit me, Obama never did submit a Obama-Care Bill to Congress. Obama was not talking about HR3200 or any other House or Senate Bill. Obama's Health Care Bill exists only in Obama's mind as no one else has seen his Bill. This is truly delusional behavior to ignore the political opposition points and HR3200 as written. It is even more delusional behavior to keep referring to something no one else can see. Maybe Obama does not want any one to see his Health Care Bill for political reasons. It is still delusional behavior to keep referring to a Bill when no one else can see it.
Consider the following, Obama emphatically stated “Death Panels” was a lie. Yet it has been widely documented when, how, why and to who the panels would apply. To deny a documented fact that has all ready occurred is truly delusional. I refer to the lady in Oregon which was denied cancer treatment and was offered euthanasia instead.
I was truly surprised that Obama did not realize by cutting Medicaid and placing cost caps on Health Care would mean patients would be denied medical care due to cost reasons. Cooper Green Hospital in Jefferson County Alabama dumped patients onto the street when the Jefferson County Commission pulled money out of the hospital funding accounts. Obama or his staff must have known about the incident as he referred to Alabama during the speech to Congress. To deny an obvious and public occurrence is delusional behavior at the extreme.
Let me submit your position is only a slice of my position. Obama passionately believes in Liberalism despite the obvious divergence from reality. You claim Obama is simply a liar. I claim he is by reason of his delusional belief system. I submit Liberalism is a madness camouflaged as a political philosophy. Obama is acting out his belief system no matter how amoral / delusional it is.
The sad fact is Obama has no clue how delusional he is. Certainly the Washington Bubble people will not inform him. I foresee a massive policy crash in Obama's future as when one drives policy with ideologically distorted glasses a collision with reality is certain.
