The Audacity of Refusing to Be Stampeded Into Obamacare

Barack Obama was not always so impatient

"I appreciate that, Mona. I sure do appreciate that."

Let us assume that the administration doesn't have a clue as to how the health care plan is going to work -- how it is supposed to slash costs and expand coverage at the same time through the instrumentality of greater government intervention into the marketplace. Will more words -- mere words -- be enough to sell the plan? Well, maybe it will -- in terms of securing passage of some kind of a healthcare bill in a veto-proof, Democratically-controlled Congress.

But selling the same legislation to the American people -- and making them believe it marks real progress and is not a complete fiasco -- is another matter altogether.

Like the union officials addressed by the president's one-time mentor, the American people realize that they have some real skin in this game. They don't want to give up something they know and understand for something that looks and sounds more than a little crazy.

Our Narcissist in Chief is not used to the people getting "all wee-wee'd" up.

He's used to throwing out a bunch of soaring rhetoric with absolutely no substance and placing his audience in a trance, in much the same manner as he did Monday with his union thugs.

Psst, Barack, let ya in on a little secret:

The American people aren't falling for it this time.

We're all just gonna have to see if congress is willing to follow him off the cliff.

I hope not.

Robert Rosencrans| 9.9.09 @ 6:57AM

There's the real problem. Facts get in the way of the public option, but damn the facts! As America watches a group of six morons, referred to as the bipartisan six in the MSM, are cleverly conspiring to implement the public option down the road with a so called trigger. It's being planted in the plan to keep a gun to the heads of health care executives around the country to keep their costs down below inflation.

Who creates all inflation? The government by borrowing and spending too much. The moronic six, AKA the bipartisan six, know that health care inflation can't be contained with a government whose borrowing is off the scale. Therefore the trigger is just another ruse to screw the public out of good health care so the Democrats can give health care to illegal aliens. That's all this is all about. Washington has lost touch with the public.

RustyG| 9.9.09 @ 7:12AM

In Obamas Labor Day speech he railed against all the "special interests" who were against his health care boondogle. "Special interests" ......as he was speaking to the AFL-CIO.

GringoBob| 9.9.09 @ 8:30AM

Obama is a typical marxist radical who must destroy our capitalist system and Constitution but not a clue what to replace it with or how to make it work - Congress would be wise to put a big "NO" on everything this clown pushes until he shows us a plan of what to do with the Gitmo terrorists and how to bring them to justice - it will be the same if we let him steal healthcare or "global warming" - go away Obama

Jack Frost| 9.9.09 @ 9:21AM

Excellent article Mr. Wilson. The more the Democrats talk about this healthcare mess the worse the people see it is, so I say; keep talking. They are hanging themseves with their own rope.

Interesting that the unionistas are gung-ho for this lord of the flies power grab, yet unions are exempt from its consequences.

Oppressive king, oppressive government. I do not see the difference. Tax us into submission and take away our liberty. Our health care is already rationed. Allow us to have the liberty to care for our own health and that of our families. It is really the last of our freedoms. Americans can take care of themselves AND be charitable to help others without an oppressive government to interfere.

TParty4USA| 9.9.09 @ 11:35AM

Obama has entered the twilight zone. Do not adjust the vertical. Do not adjust the horizontal.

And whatever you do, President Obama, do not quit talking. You're doing a great job! Which is what crisis does, and you're one heck of a crisis.

Oldefarte| 9.9.09 @ 12:17PM

Anyone accepting [or believing] the brainwashing coming from team Obama is a MORON! This garbage is [and always has been] simply WELFARE. It's about insuring the currently uninsured, and forcing taxpayers to fund the bill. Americans who want healthcare insurance [and can pay for it becuase they work for a living] already have it. The only problem now is that it COSTS TOO MUCH, and Obama's/Democrats' proposals do not address that issue. The cost reduction elements are [1] tort reform and [2] medical care pricing reform. The problem with [1] are that trial lawyers control the Democrats who now control the government; and lawyers are not going to allow tort reform without a fight as it will cost them money. Same with [2] as the current al-la-cart medical pricing system allows doctors/hospitals to bill/price seperately for each/every procedure instead of a group type system based upon a patients medical needs; and again, doctors are going to resist any change to the latter system since it will cost them money. The bottom line with both [1] and [2] is that the American consumer/taxpayer is left paying the bill for same; while the lawyers and doctors laugh all the way to their banks. If/until Obama/Democrats begin discussing and considering both [1] and [2], helathcare reform is a useless issue!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Al Adab| 9.9.09 @ 1:33PM

This proposal, like so many others, monumental in itself, is simply one of a series in the continuing attempt to impose statist solutions to "problems" as perceived by the Left.

Why the rush you ask? Consider that the effective date of the legislation is after the next election and we can discern different motives from the surface ones. Disingenuous is the term that comes to mind. The pursuit of this agenda through the bills like this is the true issue.

Dean| 9.9.09 @ 1:55PM

To paraphrase a passage from Herman Wouk's novel The Caine Mutiny, "the Constitution is a master plan designed by geniuses for execution by idiots." The Obama administration and the 111th Congress are the most qualified in the history of the republic.

Sometimes when I email Senators and Congressmen and women I feel as though MY words are being sucked up into some Congressional Vacuum Cleaner. And almost daily, if I turn on news (NOT MSM, however, can't take them anymore,) I am subjected to O's empty rhetoric (with the tragic Chorus of Howard Dean and Robert Gibbs and Nancy Pelosi playing back-up).

Look. The people at Town Hall Meetings have been suggesting the obvious. Republicans (aren't they just awful???) have been suggesting the obvious -- on Fox, anyway. (Howard Dean was hearing the conversation. He'd say that Republicans haven't come forward with any ideas or plans. Uh. Didn't I just hear a few good ones? Were you rendered deaf, Mr. Dean, when someone else was talking?)

Van Jones wasn't a "vetting problem." Bill O'Reilly may see nothing wrong with a few Communists in our government, but I dare say I'm not alone in railing against them.

But I digress. Or do I?

When a Bill O'Reilly sees no possible danger to our government from Marxists and Maoists being slipped in, past Congress, into the Executive Branch -- I have to wonder --

Have the forces of political correctness and anti-capitalism already won more than the battle?

Have we, while we were trying to pay attention to our work and our families and our homes, already let Freedom languish?

And Oldefarte, I agree EXCEPT I do know many physicians who are truly struggling under the combined weight of government intrusion into pricing and the cost of malpractice insurance. They have a tremendous amount of overhead and, added to all the debt from Medical school and other aspects of "practicing" medicine, many of them are heading for specialty areas where they can make more money.

I'm not saying there aren't some greedy ones out there. Greed can be found in, oh, Labor Bosses, heads of corporations-intricately-interwoven-with-media/energy/Cap&Trade;, even Democrats. Well, maybe not Democrats. But certainly trial lawyers and physicians.

But most of the doctors I know are "well off," but not rich.

I just wish our Congress would listen, that members of Congress who are NOT COMMUNISTS would stand up to this Administration, that the people who are being paid by Soros and Company to undermine this nation would go live somewhere else. (How about Venezuela? Maybe we could get Oliver Stone to move there, too!)

DTC OF AZ| 9.9.09 @ 4:57PM

The commie VJ rat is out of the czars team. Let's see if Soro the rat will be smoked out next. When Soro's money system is down, maybe the commie's engine in the WH will be collaped and so will the OBAMACARE.

CS Lewis| 9.9.09 @ 5:03PM

Did anyone here listen to Rush today? If you did then you realize 'it's not about health care at all. It's about changing the finances of every American citizen. What Bacus's (sp) bill does to all us is beyond any digusting word I can think of. The bill will control us completely!
So tonight, you will just hear, as Rush says, "words, words, words." It's not about health care but our money, our everyday lives - our life and death. Power. :(

Louis Jenkins| 9.9.09 @ 5:10PM

Unfortunately the Messiah has performed poorly in the miracle division. Making a lame economy blind, or walking underwater, has caused dis-enchantment amongst the followers. One cannot always lead by brute force or profound utterances, there needs to be some measure of brains. The Annointed One has set himself up for expectations that cannot last, and the Devil has emerged in the details. (Some of us knew that during last year's campaign, too bad others didn't.)

We have openings for you, especially with our Boston Archdiocese!

Please read the Wiki link carefully, "No one [in the Vatican] thinks the sexual abuse of kids is unique to the States."

To get the position, you need to demonstrate how you could do a better job at hiding these issues!

You have to work your way up... to the Vatican, where you are under constant protection of your bros and you can touch yourself, in modern age term, on-demand!

All I know is we have to keep fighting, we have to keep raising our voices in loud protest against this unwanted government takeover, and this shredding of our freedom. Freedom to choose for ourselves, freedom from a tyrannical government that was never intended or envisioned by our founding fathers. Now is the time we must step up our efforts to make every pol hear our opposition. The largest petition against a policy issue was delivered to DC today (the folks at Free Our Health Care delivered the petition today with 1.275 million signatures). But still Obama refuses to see the futility of clinging to the public option. Then I say, fine, let our voices be heard in the voting booths.

ATLmedia| 9.9.09 @ 11:12PM

We have to wait until more Americans go broke
(its barely 700,000 annually now from medical expenses) until we reform health care. Its barely $13,000 ayear in insurance fees for an American family (Projected to double in 9 yrs) So lets wait until its much worse -it only affects poor & working people now -before we go all Obamacare
on us well off/oblivious folks.

OBAMASCARE

Barak Hushpuppy OhBummer, "The Mistake of '08," is employing SCARE TACTICS to get his single-payer / universal / public-option / government-run socialized medicine / healthcare-hijacking fastened on the backs of the American people. More Americans will die if we don't do it HIS way, he says ---- and we'll all be guilty of murder by turning OhBummer down.

Here he pontificates to the great masses of ignorant unwashed Americans, as he is inclined to regard them ---- who evidently don't trust this sneaky, sticky-fingered, smoothing-lying low-down skunk. Nope. Shake hands with OhBummer. Now count your fingers.

"I will not waste time with those who have made the calculation that it's better politics to kill this plan than to improve it." MY ANSWER: Your plan is a hefty hunk of steamin' junk, there is no salvation for rot as ripe as this is.

"Well, the time for bickering is over," he said. "The time for games has passed. Now is the season for action." MY ANSWER: I feel exactly the same way, OhBummer, so knock off the scare tactics and propaganda, and the threats to the tea party and town hall protesters ---- and shut that lying hole in your face.

"I am not the first president to take up this cause, but I am determined to be the last," he added. MY ANSWER: I am determined that you will be the last SOB to try to impose this crxp on the American people, too. You're just a heathcare hijacker and a predatory humanitarian ---- while pretending to be Santa Claus, wanting only to confer your "gift" on the American people ---- this is like getting a gift from Typhoid Mary.

Now, it is a mistake to suppose that OhBummer and the OhBummer Wrecking Crew mean to "reform" American healthcare. This is not reform, it is an out-and-out hijacking.
It is worth noting while the Marxist socialists seek to nationalize the entire system ---- such that all healthcare employees become government employees ---- Hitler's Nazis ["national socialists"] adopted another version of the same poisonous statism ---- "interventionism." Under this system of total government control and dictatorship, the Nazis argued that they were merely "regulating" the industry and that it continued to be "private enterprise under a system of private property."

But here's what the Nazis would never have tolerated publishing. A freeman owns himself, while a slave is owned by others. The first article of "private property" is "the self" --- and all other property earned or obtained by gift belongs to the individual. Private property consists of the freedom of use and disposal thereof --- and because the Nazis and their philosophical partners-in-crime, e.g.: OhBummer, Nazi Pelosi, Dingy Harry Reid, Gaseous Al Gore, Mt Potato Head Biden, Hillary HotRod, and Sick Willie Clinton wish to "regulate" their betters, they effectively cancel private property ---- including the ownership of oneself.

Now, lads 'n' lasses! Go out there and kick over some bloody coffee tables, would ya?! And if OhBummer's thugs from the unions and Move On and Code Pink try to stop you, "get in their faces!"
