The Last of the Macacas

Another Republican apologizes to America’s PC masters.

The PC flare-up over Robert McDonnell’s excavated graduate thesis paper calling feminism “detrimental” to the traditional family has followed the usual pattern: a perfectly sound conservative position is “exposed,” that position is described for days, without any argumentation to prove it whatsoever, as “offensive,” an ongoing journalistic beat forms around said position, then the offending Republican offers apologies for his benighted view while quibbling a bit about the timing, extent, and motivation of the scrutiny.

The PC position is never assumed to be wrong. No, modern life under feminist ideology is going swimmingly and anyone who suggests otherwise has no place in American politics. The wisdom of the National Organization for Women will continue to guide us into a glorious future.

I have been enlightened, McDonnell has in effect informed his PC masters. According to a Washington Post story on Wednesday, under the headline, “McDonnell Tries to Salvage Women’s Votes,” the Republican candidate “has said his views on working women have changed in the two decades since he wrote the paper at age 34 at Regent University in Virginia Beach.”

So the twenty years since then have proven feminism to be right? The family is stronger than ever under its culture? It turns out small children are better off raised by “child care professionals” than by stay-at-home mothers? Conservatives should have supported federal child-care programs all along?

In order to belly up to the table of American politics, Republican politicians feel that they must consent to these lies and swallow poisonous PC propaganda whole. Who cares about the truth of the matter? Let’s just win. And this means, even if they do, that legislation never changes fundamentally. Almost all important policy debates now just revolve around two liberal positions which differ only in degree not kind.

Winston Churchill associated mindless liberalism with callow youth and conservatism with age. Were he alive today, he would have to reverse the adage. Pols start off honestly conservative and become dishonestly liberal, spouting whatever sentimental lies the PC culture decrees.

Both McDonnell and Virginia Senator Jim Webb, who once committed the similarly grievous offense of questioning women-in-combat policies, have ditched their views and now acknowledge, as McDonnell put it the other day, “the real policy world,” his euphemism for the propaganda one must honor as the price of admission into American political debates.

Both of them, as Post columnist Ruth Marcus chortled, have chalked up their old views to a new species of youthfulness: McDonnell committed his offense at 34, Webb at 33. In “The Macaca Thesis,” Marcus declares such views sexist and occupying her PC propagandist cat-bird seat she sees no reason to prove the charge.

There is a little bit of hope for McDonnell, however, now that Marcus has crowned him slightly “evolved” and enlightened: “nothing can change a sexist’s mind as effectively as having daughters; McDonnell’s experience with watching his daughters earn master’s degrees and serve in Iraq no doubt informed his current views about working women.”

Though the Post hadn’t yet established that McDonnell had lost votes to be “salvaged,” as its headline suggested, the paper’s Wednesday story assumed serious trouble ahead: “Countering McDonnell’s efforts are those of women such as Arlington County resident Marjorie Signer, who serves as president of the Virginia chapter of the National Organization for Women. Signer said she read about McDonnell’s thesis in the Washington Post at 11 a.m. Sunday and immediately left home to picket a Women for McDonnell rally at Lake Burke Park in Fairfax.”

This is a curious piece of reporting: Why would a NOW chapter head need to wait for the Post’s trumpet? Shouldn’t she have been rushing off to picket that event in any case? Wasn’t he already “anti-woman”?

In the PC shorthand of American politics, Republicans, no matter how much defensive and hapless pandering they do, will still be called sexist, and through these capitulations they help to cement the charge: instead of challenging the shorthand, as they should, they confirm it by promising to change their ways.

As a Va. voter, I have yet to receive any response from my e-mail plea to McDonnell to stand firm on solid conservative principles. This is one vote he will lose as a result of pandering to a left wing agenda. Oh, and if I receive no reply by the end of the day, his yard sign will be removed from my yard for Labor Day weekend. This is exactly the same caving that caused George Allen to be rejected. When will so called "conservatives" understand that the mealy mouthed apologies to the left lose them more support than they gain?

stephanie| 9.4.09 @ 7:08AM

I too, a VA resident, will remove my pink "women for McDonnell" for governor. Being a member of a local Patriots group, we have called his office to ask him to come speak to us and will not even return the call. I am truely disappointed. Not only in him, but with the fact that once again, the Republicans cannot come up with and support a candidate better than this.
I guess we will be stuck with the Deeds character. Another liberal hack.

Ken (Old Texican)| 9.4.09 @ 7:31AM

VIRGINIANS,
May a Texan make a comment? (smile)
Please don't stop supporting GoBob. Look what happened last November!!!!!

Obama won because 40 million people refused to "get energized" and go to the polls.

Please don't let that happen again. OKOK, Gobob ain't perfect. He is darned sure a hell of a lot better than his opponent for your State.

If we have learned anything, reflecting on last November, is that McDufus as President would have ambled along screwing up a lot.
But!
He would not have hired a bunch of scum Czars, nor bowed to a foreign king ...would he?

Come on...get your heads out over there, OK?

Melvin| 9.4.09 @ 7:34AM

Come on people! For one minute did you actually expect the Republicans or the Democrats to submit a statesmen or stateswoman?
For crying out loud look at the guy, he looks like Charlie Crist without the fake tan and silver hair. The point that I am trying to make here is, that especially with the Republicans is that all the Republican Candidates look like they came straight out of the Republican Candidate Barbie
Doll factory. Wind them up, and they all walk and talk and say the same thing.
They're candidates who represent the Republican Party, and not the people.

Melvin| 9.4.09 @ 7:38AM

Ken is right Bob must still be supported, but on the flip side. How many political contests must Republicans Party leadership lose before they get the," Point" in why they keep losing?
Voters should not be forced vote for which candidate is the lesser of the two evils.

stuart reed| 9.4.09 @ 7:54AM

Is it really so hard for these emptysuits to actually stand up for what they profess to believe in when push comes to shove? Or is that seat of power what is really important, no matter what one has to say or do to keep it?

to coin a phrase..."follow the money"

Mark| 9.4.09 @ 8:04AM

Because of his apparent need to pledge loyalty to the politically correct, McDonnell has lost my vote. I will vote against any and all Republicans who renounce their past conservative views. The GOP needs to cleanse itself and become smaller and less popular before it can begin to recover and gain ground politically. I wish that it were otherwise, but it is not. I'm all for practical politics, but there comes a point where the practical becomes irrelevant and non-conservative. Too many in the GOP have reached that point. Hasta la vista GOP!

John - TMF| 9.4.09 @ 8:06AM

Corkie and Stephanie -

You are playing right into the Washington Post's hands. The Post editorial page and their reporting (Democrat party operatives) absolutely know that no Dem will vote for McDonnell.. They aren't looking to get women who would never vote for McDonnell. There are no "independents" here... no Virginia voters are registered to any party anyway.

What the POST is doing is DIVIDING the Republicans.. It is forcing McDonnell to play the game (which he is not doing well, and I know why.. but am not saying because I know a few of the players and they are northeasterners whose first instinct is to hike up their skirts and head for the tall grass at the first hint of controversy).

The POST is looking to cause YOU to stay home. It is looking to cause YOU to pull your signs and kick dirt at the McDonnell campaign.

So, before you decide to get angry and frustrated, think the problem through and realize that your emotions (all Conservatives have them, and are currently listening too much to them...) are being played by masters of pulling on chains.

This NEW M'caca effort is designed to split the right. Done get suckered into falling for it.

Stick to the plan. Get McDonnell, Bolling, and Cuccinelli elected, and put a crimp in "The One's" regime.

Divide and conquer is a solid tactic that Conservatives fall for like the chest poke- "whazzat"--nose flick routine...

Resist the urge to look down, and think through the problem.

You cannot play if you don't WIN.

The Mighty Fahvaag

The Washington Post ill be coming after me, too, I guess. In law school, I took the position that open adoption was more for the mother than the child. The liberal professor didn't like it. Guess I was a sexist woman, i.e. conservative.

I think that children raised at home is preferable, unless your mother is Van Jones or Cynthia McKinney.

Don't people remember when child care was considered for welfare mothers only?

Then the women's movement had to sanitize child care because who would take care of the children while the women worked? Women were then made to feel embarrassed if they stayed at home and didn't work. Now, "stay at home moms", an expression which I can't stand, personally, are gaining some momentum.

Stop attacking this guy. I don't see the issue. When every feminist in the country pays for her own dinner on a date, stops buying high heels and picks up her own dead bugs, then she can complain, not whine.

John| 9.4.09 @ 8:16AM

BTW...

Skill at dealing with PR issues DOES NOT equate to leadership. OK? It just means that you are good at PR... and good at manipulating.

Bob McDonnell is the real deal... he isn't a phony... he isn't a sameless self promoter... He is a decent, hard working public servant. Yes that makes him a politician. So? How the heck do you get ELECTED if you AREN'T?

Leaders don't drop down out of heaven. They work their way through the political ranks, doing picnics, rubber chicken dinners, grubbing for contributions, knocking on doors, talking, and making promises.

Bob McDonnell is honest, has done exactly what he said that he would do, and ran the AG office with skill and dedication.

He IS NOT the LESSER of TWO Evils. He is a solid Conservative Republican... PERIOD.

Regards...

Well, me staying home may be what the Washington Post wants; I really don't care. The Washington Post and the MSM are not at at issue; Bob McDonnell and the GOP are. I'm voting against the limp-wristed GOP in order to save the GOP. Sometimes you really do have to spank your children even though you wish you didn't have to. The Republicans will be better off in the long run if they realize that they can't take conservatives for granted.

Michael L. Hauschild| 9.4.09 @ 8:30AM

I had a committee chair who was a "Feminist Geographer" and instrumental in the "Women's Studies" department at one of the of the Colleges that employed me as TA. It was nearly impossible to exist as a male within her sphere. I survived simply by the temporal aspect of being old enough to be her father. I no way, in any form, or semblance does her ilk represent the mainstream "better half." That thesis implementing modern feminism as detrimental to the nuclear family is essentially valid.

mleppla@ec.rr.com| 9.4.09 @ 8:33AM

What frosts me the most about many Republican candidates is why I call the, "Eunuch" Syndrome.
The Democrats are famous for springing this eleventh hour crap, and the Rep. Candidate gets the deer in the headlights stare, and goes into these agonizingly long dissertation in why they wrote what they wrote.
The public views this as, "Damn, this guy will do anything to get elected."
I'll use Senator Jesse Helms as an example. Sen. Helms was not shy in saying and standing up for the principles that he believed in.
Democrats and moderate Republicans loathed the man, but they did agree on one thing about Sen. Helms, they respected the, "Hell" out of him even though the profusely disagreed with him.
Even to this day many of his former political adversaries still admit, "At least he stood up for what he believed in and was willing to go toe to toe in a fight."
This is what voters want to see in a Republican candidate, not some lip quivering explanation. Because the voters know, as North Carolinians did about Senator Jesse Helms, "If he is willing to stand up and fight for his principles then he'll stand up and fight for us."

Ken (Old Texican| 9.4.09 @ 9:07AM

OK Mleppla!
When are you going to quit grumbling and start doing someting constructive?

Get off your hiney and tell us which congressional/Senatorial possibilities with true grit you are going to help be nominated in YOUR State!
Do you even know who they might be?
I am writing this to you, but it is intended for all the idle "spectators" I see around here.

Come on down out of the bleachers, put on a uniform, and get in the game.

The Bishop| 9.4.09 @ 9:12AM

One must have guts to be a leader. Mr. McConnell has demonstrated his lack of this indispensable quality. Too bad.

John| 9.4.09 @ 9:31AM

WRONG.

He has demonstrated nothing of the sort. He as just demonstrated that 20 years and several daughters one of whom was (and still is to my knowlegde) an officer in the US Army.

What he also demonstrated is that his campaign staff, advisors, and those around him who help him convey his message, are still snake-bitten as to how to handle the: "Answer YES or NO. Have you stopped beating your wife, yet?" question.

Of course the Post gets what it wants because it creates a situation where it weakens McDonnell by driving away his more ideological support.

Twenty years is a long time to stew over essays written and positions taken. McDonnell should have had better more direct responses prepared for this, but who out there among the detractors on the right can defend what they said 20 years in the past, after a full generation of life has occurred.

I was a Conservative Republican 20 years ago, and as a newly married man with a baby on the way... definitely had opinions that I don't necessarily hold anymore.

McDonnell's campaign could have turned this one on its ear, and used it as an opportunity to strike back at the WaPo (once again running for Virginia elective office by proxy).

Virginia political consultants have continually failed to understand the entire "M'caca" incident for what it was.

Like I said. The Post knows that Deeds can't win without successfully dividing McDonnell's constituencies on the Right. Looks to me like y'all are falling for the bait...

Ken, please, don't be so harsh on me. Alas, we have no one worthy in NC. But,I sense that you are politically astute person and are very aware that here in NC most of our politicians are corrupt. This is in reference to the former Gov. Mike Easley and wife, under investigation for corruption, Speaker of the House Jim Black, in jail for corruption, Legislator Micheal Decker out of jail for corruption, and Agricultural Commissioner Meg Scott Phips out of jail for corruption.
The new Gov. Bev. Purdue is not under investigation yet, but she did raise eyebrows in using gov. aircraft and failure to report campaign flights.
At the National level, Congressman Butterfield NC House Ethics Committee has accepted campaign contributions from Charles Rangel.
So you see our choices here at least in NC are somewhat limited.
I'm am a Libertarian but unfortunately when you mention that fact the usual response is, "Aren't you the guys that want to legalize Marijuana."
But rest assure I'm not on the political sidelines, as you allude to.

loulou| 9.4.09 @ 10:47AM

George Allen made a colossal error when he accepted guilt for a nonexistant crime. Then came the apologies which insured his defeat.

McDonnell had better show that he was the spine to deal with the WaPo's feeble attempt to macaca him or he's not worth voting for.

Michael Tomlinson| 9.4.09 @ 10:51AM

Virginia conservatives who do not support McDonnell, because of this are as much a part of the problem as Barack Obama. Politics for conservatives with a hostile media means the job is harder for us than the left. Anyone who doubts the power of the MSM or PR is ignoring the reality of how a conservative nation can elect a radical leftist and empower a party of radicals like Jim Webb, Mark Warner and Barack Obama. McDonnell is wanting to avoid being George Allen II and to siphon carpetbagger votes away from DemocRATS in northern Virginia -- the area that gave us scum like Webb and Warner. If this works more power to him. We cannot defeat the left by standing on the sidelines and throwing stones at one of our own.

Michael Tomlinson| 9.4.09 @ 11:31AM

Melvin the corrupt politicians in North Carolina are Democrats who have won office thanks to the influx of northern voters and the corrupt good old boy Democrat party network. Many of the new arrivals have ruined their old homes and now come to North Carolina intent on doing the same thing here -- electing corrupt and incompetent DemocRATS who bankrupt the state economically and morally. One would hope in fleeing places like New York they'd leave their failed ideas there, but that's not always the case.

Cris Worth| 9.4.09 @ 11:43AM

The Republican Party gave me a wakeup call in the wake of the 1966 elections where they made a dramatic political comeback two years after the Goldwater debacle. In a strong position to challenge the Democrats they instead rolled over and played dead as LBJ continued his suicidal Vietnam and Great Society policies. Except for Reagan the list of GOP betrayals, caving in and morphing into liberals is endless. W. Bush is the prime example and look who their front runner is...Willard Romney, social liberal extraordinaire and a perfect example of the theme of this message.

Think First| 9.4.09 @ 11:43AM

So does Michelle Bachman have more cajones than McDonnell? Hey life happens and if you can't stand the heat, you don't belong in the kitchen.

We all change every day or we're not growing as people. Duh! Instead of an opportunity to stand up and turn this against those attacking him, he has surrendered. By not answering or responding to those who still wanted to support him, by ignoring the women who wanted to talk to him and work with him to get through this, he has made clear if he received any pressure at all in DC he would cave in a heart beat and do what he was told.

A RINO by any other name is still a RINO. We do not stop Obama's agenda by sending people to DC who don't PROVE they can take the heat. We may not like seeing the Dems still in control but what we need are leaders who will stand up and be counted.

If the Dems are in charge, they get the blame. If we send more spineless RINOs who vote in lock step any way, republicans share the blame. Yes we have a two pronged battle going that means each and everyone of us must make sure we get true conservative candidates and not the GOP lap dog.

Then we stand guard to make sure it's clear to them if they don't stay true not matter what the pressure in DC, they'll have a short term and gone. And that means that all of us from all over the country do what we can to support and work in any state needing our grassroots help to not just throw out the DIMS but the Repubics, as Mark Levin calls them, as well.

Our Liberty will accept nothing less than the best at this time to not only stop the tyranny but cut Big Gov by at least half as a starting point. I remember how sickened I was when the whole flap came up about the Masters golf tourney being held at a male club. Then I watched as these supposedly manly men sniveled and whined for approval from NOW wench. Spineless jelly fish.

Prove yourself worthy first sir. If you will surrender now at home, what can we expect in the middle of the war in DC?

Gill O’Teen ✝✡| 9.4.09 @ 12:03PM

Last year, I was told that if I didn’t vote for the feckless johnny, a terrorist loving kommie-nist would be elected. So like a good puppy I voted for a great American Hero who is, nonetheless, a poor political fighter. During a modern day parody of Lincoln-Douglas, I found myself screaming at the television over and over again. Drove my poor boss nuts. Luckily she didn’t fire me. The object of my ire was the republi-kon kondidate who had already secured my support at the polls because he let obumassiah repeatedly bear false witness unchallenged. Well, guess what? I voted to keep a terrorist loving kommie pinko out of office and look what happened. Not only do we now have a Kommie-czar living in the White House, but this golden calf hired an avowed kommie-nist, Van Jones, to be something called the green jobs czar. Additionally, there are, according to a report on today’s Drudge Report, plans in the works to have a flag raising ceremony on the White House lawn September 20 to honor, not American Warriors but the Chinese Kommie-nists. That’s right, it’s not Old Glory being raised but the flag of the People's Republic of China. Here’s the link:
http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/c.....422505.htm
Like, many other commentators here, I am upset with spaghetti spined republi-kons and wish we could get perfect candidates. I’m tired of holding my nose when I vote. However, I now believe that there is only one issue facing this country and it is FREEDOM. As I have mentioned before, I am kin to the Wallace clan. The Greatest Wallace was William, about whom a great film with Mel Gibson in the lead role was made. As everyone who saw it know, William’s dying word as he was being executed by tyrants was “FREEDOM”. This defiance of tyranny supposedly inspired the treacherous Robert the Bruce to lead the Scots to victory in their fight against a dictator. Yes, I know that the current Scottish government is a rather wimp-spined lot, but that in no way detracts of the heroism of a Patriot like my distant cousin. The point of this is simply that I have modified my stance on how to vote. The system will generate only 2 choices with a chance of actually being elected. I hate this, but it is the way things are. So the only question to be asked is which of these two better supports FREEDOM. If neither do, don’t vote. We lose anyway. But if one looks like a viable fighter for The Constitution, The Declaration of Independence and The Holy Bible, hold your nose and mark your ballot in his favor. The wolf is now in the henhouse and there is nothing more important than that he and his ilk be evicted permanently

In the beauty of the lilies
Christ was born across the sea,
With a glory in His bosom that transfigures you and me:
As He died to make men holy, let us die to make men free,
While God is marching on. (from “The Battle Hymn of the Republic" - Julia Ward Howe)

John is correct. The WaPo's agenda is to once again demonstrate that they are king makers. McDonnell probably has changed his mind now that he has daughters. I know that I have now that I am faced with the reality that is today's society: my daughters need to be able to stand on their own. 1) They will meet a guy who will get taxed out the whazzoo and so she will probably have to work to make ends meet. 2) There's a good chance she will find herself divorced and raising kids on her own because remember, the lessons of feminism aren't lost on guys. 3) And none of this will change anytime soon. So quit falling for an obvious trap and handing the election back to the liberals. You know, for a bunch of people who are so smart and informed...

I'm always amazed at people who shout about principles and then disparage men like George W. Bush. . . One might not agree with Bush on some issues, but he always told us what he thought, why he was doing something and then stood by his decision. Some self-described conservatives confuse their pet peeves with principles and they aren't. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the "principled" people didn't vote for Webb, Warner and/or Obama.

What would do they call a politician who calls for cutting Federal taxes and then raises them 7 times? A politician who talks about fighting terrorism, but allows Iran and its surrogates to go Scot free after killing hundreds of Americans? A politician who calls for abolishing several Federal bureaucracy, but actually expands them? A politician who decries deficit spending, but until Obama has the highest deficit spending per capita of GDP?

America and conservatives call him the 20th century's greatest President -- Ronald Reagan. Was he a RINO? Based on the stuff many people think is conservative Reagan was the head RINO. I think not just a pragmatic conservative governing. Something many so-called don't understand.

These are the folks who consistently help Democrats get elected and made the Obama Presidency reality. The same people who complain while empowering the left. Time to get in the real world or kiss this nation's future goodbye.

Just one more ordinary Republican. My problem -- if I go for the label of Independent I will be allowing one less vote for the anti-Democrats. That is where I am now like many of you, I don't like most of the stupid Republicans, e.g., Mel Martinez and Crist the switch hitter, yet the voice and money goes to the stupid. Republicans, until you prove that you have the guts and the talent to save the country from the libs and marxists, you will get no contributions.

Roy| 9.4.09 @ 6:39PM

I really don't want any politician I support to die on this hill. I think McDonnell himself is right to take the focus of this issue.

I would imagine most people know very well that the traditional family is worse off than it was. But they don't care - women have more opportunities and they think the tradeoff is worth it, and they jump like puppets when the media directs them to believe that somebody wants to take those opportunities away.

I don't really have a strong belief either way on that. But one thing I do think is that sheer economics will start to bring back homemaking as a "career". This will happen as it dawns on people just how much businesses take advantage of the fact that they don't have the time to "shop smart".

…bowing before the PC police of the left. Take the recent contrived controversy over Bob McDonnell’s thesis paper wherein he says feminism and working moms are bad for the family. Over at the American Spectator , George Neumayr is also pretty fed up with weak-kneed politicians who refuse to defend sound conservative positions and quickly disavow those positions at the first hint of liberal disapproval. The Left has stolen debate in effect by controlling the language. But there's no shortage of Republicans obliging them by caving.

Get ready to have guts to be a leader. Mr. McConnell has demonstrated his lack of this indispensable quality.

" ...According to a Washington Post story on Wednesday, under the headline, "McDonnell Tries to Salvage Women's Votes," the Republican candidate "has said his views on working women have changed in the two decades since he wrote the paper at age 34 at Regent University in Virginia Beach."...."

If there is NO COST to Repubs if they stab conservatism/conservatives in the back then that is exactly what they will do every time rather then fight.

Emil| 9.5.09 @ 6:57PM

The whining conservatives here clearly are oblivious to the fact that a Deed and Corzine win will greatly strengthen Obama's ability to corral Blue Dog dems on issues like Card Check, Cap and Trade and Health Cares. Of course we have the "we must destroy the party in order to save it crowd here"

BTW I havent seen anywhere where McDonnell has "apologized" for his writings. But to the purists we must never change or evolve in our thinking.

Emil| 9.5.09 @ 7:02PM

""So does Michelle Bachman have more cajones than McDonnell? Hey life happens and if you can't stand the heat, you don't belong in the kitchen. ""

I recall that Michelle Bachman apologized for her comment on MSNBC right before the 2008 election. I guess she should not be supported

Rick Ards| 9.5.09 @ 10:20PM

This is just an example of what we can expect. McDonnell caves on this issue in a campaign -- instead of showing some backbone and immediately launching a fierce counterattack on the Washington Post for their all-t0o-expected left-wing bias and dirty politics.
So, what's he going to do if he's elected? If he's pushed to raise taxes? If he's pushed to OK gay marriage? If he's pushed to create more gov't programs? If he's pushed and pushed and pushed ... This is what happens when the GOP recruits candidates for their looks and not their substance.

McDonnel will do just fine. But in the non-partisan interest of the country is do offer some advice to the democrats. First priority, overthrow (?) Pelosi and replace her with someone who can handle something akin to a revolution or military coup. Second, quit faking literacy of the legislative chicken scratching you presume the public can’t understand and bone up on the Constitution. Third fall on your knees and pray for the commutation of the sentences your constituents are about to bestow on you in 2010.

Richard Baker| 9.6.09 @ 12:54PM

It isn't that he's not perfect but that on such an inconsequential subject as his thesis he runs for the hills. Constancy , or lack therof, is the concern.

I live in Virginia and this McDonnell can forget about my vote if he doesn't stand up for true conservatism. We need two-parent families with stay-at-home moms, not more women getting their abortions and trying to wear the pants in the family. Women shouldn't even ever wear pants! Have they ever seen what their cabooses look like in pants?! McDonnell better start telling the little ladies what for or he loses my vote!

Billie's Jeanz| 9.7.09 @ 3:34AM

Bobby, I like your worldview better than "Heather has two mommies." Fewer abortions would be nice, too--except FemiNazis worship at the altar of abortion. Get 'em when they're still young, right?

Donna Reede| 9.7.09 @ 4:17AM

I think things were much better in the fifties when women had jobs--in the kitchen. I got my two rambunctious boys ready for school every day, then kept my house immaculate and had a delicious supper on the table for them and my wonderful provider husband every evening. And I always had on a nice dress and pearls and well-coiffed hair when I greeted my husband at the door (men don't like to see a dumpy woman after a hard day's work). Then that horrible Friedan woman had to come along and ruin everything. And I hated wearing pants, you should have seen my caboose in those things!

Ken (Old Texican)| 9.7.09 @ 7:31AM

You Virginians
Haven't you people ever heard of "encouragement"?

Have you EVER sent a fax or letter to your congress/Senate people just to say thank you, or attaboy?
If McDonnell had gotten a million attaboys before that speech of his, I wager he would have been much more secure in his response.

C'mon knotheads, If you got a pretty good guy, why not support him/her with some POSITIVE reinforcement?
Maybe he or she would be even a better guy. DUH!

Gazinya| 9.7.09 @ 12:10PM

I liked the comparison that Gill had concerning the "Braveheart" movie. Bruce listened to his father who said 'it is about land and titles'. That is and has been what the RINOs have been about. They don't like to put on the shield of honor and state what the conservatives know. That it is "IN GOD WE TRUST" and not what gets us by. McCain and the Bush's were both cut from the Robert Bruce character. Feckless but not overtly disloyal. Robert wanted to be like Wallace but was easily dissuaded by, shall I say it, greed. How does one keep what others don't and still look humble. We conservatives care more about our principles than power.

Maybe if we can put a principled candidate for all to see and most to sneer at then those in the middle and on the left will have an alternative to the rampant and not so hidden lies of the liberal socialists. This is about FREEDOM not power. 'Delight thyself in the ways of the Lord and He shall give you the desires of your heart.' Conservatiaves desire truth, honesty and the Constitution.

RickinVA| 9.7.09 @ 12:30PM

I will stand by Bob McDonnell. The Wash Post is absolutely in the tank for the Dems. The ONLY thing that gets attn from the press and our politicians is winning elections. The ONLY thing. We have to put good conservatives in these positions if we are going to get momentum on our side. Vote Bob McDonnell, he is a good man, not perfect, but a good man!!

Roseanne: FemaleLib of Today| 9.7.09 @ 2:14PM

Donna, I think you probably look and behave more like Roseanne Barr than Donna Reed. Now, there's a REAL female role model, a true liberal woman of today. Ain't she a beaut?! Can you sing like Roseanne, too?

I've seen Roseanne's butt in pants--now, that's a true American tragedy!

Frank Natoli| 9.7.09 @ 4:42PM

What if the problem is not Bob McDonnell but instead the problem is the clear majority of women voters in Virginia?

Ark Ashamed of Bill| 9.7.09 @ 6:05PM

Contemporary feminism has been erected on a foundation of Stalinism and Third World Marxism, and it incorporates, by way of Betty Friedan, the ideology of Engels’s “The Origin of the Family, Private Property and the State,” which claims that private property makes husbands oppressors and women their victims (a perfect fit for the Third World Marxist ideology). Engels claims that true marriage will only be possible when private property is abolished. Since private property is the cornerstone of American liberty, this ideology is profoundly un-American. If McConnell doesn’t have the courage to point this out he doesn’t deserve to hold public office.

Nobama| 9.7.09 @ 6:26PM

McDonnell should NEVER have apologized; he did nothing wrong.

His weakness is not the fault of the women of Virginia. Bob needs a big shot of testosterone!

Kurt| 9.7.09 @ 7:44PM

Yes George, you speak the truth, the question I ask is, why have,or why do, we let it come so far as to believe any political party or any person has the 'answer' to any human delema. Should you believe we can "FIX" this or any other 'issue'-welcome to folly.
