The Obama Watch

Obama Gets Pragmatic

President Obama's decision not to release photos of detainees abused while in U.S. custody in Iraq and Afghanistan is potentially representative of an important change in the way this administration handles politically sensitive subjects.

Until very recently, the president has displayed a tendency to make decisions on weighty matters by instinct. For all of his hyped "thoughtfulness," as president, Obama has been less than intellectual in his approach.

When it came to crafting a stimulus bill, the White House could hardly be bothered to check the details. That was left to the Democratic leadership in the House. The president was Billy Mays, out there selling the thing with a huge smile and a glimmer in his eye. But unlike Mays, he hadn't even tested the product he was pitching. In fact, he pitched it before he even saw it.

The president announced major decisions on stem cell research and abortion funding as if he were announcing that he'd decided to have soup for lunch instead of a sandwich. There was not even an attempt to show that serious thought had gone into the matters. The stated reasoning behind the stem cell decision was so convoluted that clearly no serious thought had gone into it, other than to pick the right political jargon.

The president's knee-jerk reaction on AIG bonuses was so ridiculous that he had to take it back almost immediately.

But lately, it seems that we've begun to see a shift away from the instantaneous application of reactionary liberal positions and toward a more pragmatic approach.

The General Motors bailout, which started as shoot-from-the-hip leftism, was the second instance of Obama's, shall we say, more nuanced governing.

During the campaign, Obama attacked John McCain for supporting policies that "shipped jobs overseas." In one ad that ran in Pennsylvania last September, the Obama campaign mentioned a local plant closing and said "Washington sold them out." Based on his campaign rhetoric, the president should have been absolutely adamant that no GM jobs would be lost over the border. But GM owner Obama faces a reality that candidate Obama never had to face. He has to actually make GM profitable. So the president has not stated opposition to a recommendation from his auto task force to have GM make more cars in Mexico. Outsourcing is bad in principle, Obama claimed during the campaign. Now that he has to actually oversee a company struggling for survival, it's smart business.

On the issue of detainee treatment, the president released CIA memos that described particular interrogation techniques. It was a knee-jerk liberal reaction, and a costly one. It was costly to the United States and costly to the president politically. It was joined by another knee-jerk decision: to release photos of abused detainees.

Tellingly, Obama decided to release the detainee photos before he had even seen them, according to news reports. That's not the sign of a thoughtful executive. But after the scolding he got on the CIA memos, he seems to have given the issue some actual consideration. As a result, he reversed course and decided to keep the photos sealed.

"The publication of these photos would not add any additional benefit to our understanding of what was carried out in the past by a small number of individuals," he said. "In fact, the most direct consequence of releasing them, I believe, would be to further inflame anti-American opinion and to put our troops in greater danger."

The exact same thing could have been said of the CIA memos. In that case, the president doesn't seem to have given his decision a great deal of consideration. Perhaps he did. He supposedly listened to a lot of advice on the matter. But his decision was the same as it would have been had he listened to no one.

The start of this pragmatic trend probably was the rescue of ship captain Richard Phillips. Clearly, Obama's instinct was not to use deadly force. He waited two days after the kidnapping before he authorized the Navy to kill the pirates. His decision was a pragmatic one reached via deliberation, not gut reaction. It not only worked, it was politically beneficial as well.

Perhaps these decisions signal the beginning of Obama's slow transition from candidate to president. As a candidate, Obama was free to indulge in all sorts of moral posturing. Shipping jobs overseas is bad! Government secrecy, even on national security matters, is bad! Shooting our enemies instead of talking to them is bad! As president, he is finding that reality is not so black and white. If it helps save a company, outsourcing is beneficial. If it will protect our national security, keeping secrets is a good idea. If our enemies are pointing guns at us and refusing to listen, shooting them hardly makes us barbaric.

Maybe these are just isolated incidents that don't signify a trend. But let's hope they do. A pragmatic Obama engages that much-touted brain more than an ideological Obama does. Which means that he makes much better decisions.

Interesting theory but I doubt if that is what is happening. Even in his alleged pragmatism his leftism wins out. The statement Obama made was still a slap at Americanism.

A real President sure of his footing wouldn't have to make those anti-American sentiments public.
The statement was just another half ass apology to people who hate America. That isn't being Presidential, it's called appeasement, which is simply another form of cowardice lite.

I have read several articles that his insiders are careful poll readers and a majority of Americans, close to 80%, felt it was unnecessary to release the photos.

In essence, Obama probably choked on those words, capitulating only after it was realized by his inner circle that if the photos were released and there was another attack, Obama would hold the blame.

Michael L. Hauschild| 5.14.09 @ 7:02AM

President Obama has lost the luxury of the Clintonesqe “triangulation. His campaign was so vector funded that any deviation from the far left policies of socialization, apologetic/pacifist foreign policy, and domestic government expansion results in either stunned silence or irrational stuttering from the MSM. Won’t be long now and he will be lamenting to the press “It ain’t easy to be me,” and the delicious irony is that his angst is due to the fact that he is behaving much the same as the man he demonized the most. Must be tough having a mentor and role model who, without an utterance, remains the major policy influence in dealing with the terrorist presence. The voice track of his statement concerning the reversal on the interrogation photos could have been dubbed into a Dick Cheney video clip and no one would have noticed.

Mike| 5.14.09 @ 8:56AM

Mr. Cline writes: "Until very recently, the president has displayed a tendency to make decisions on weighty matters by instinct." Sorry, Mr. Cline. I'm afraid you have confused Mr. Obama with the previous president of the United States.

Foolish seem wise in 09| 5.14.09 @ 9:19AM

Obama is a fraud, I heard his bottom up agenda, where is it?. I also heard his talk of transparancy, where is it?. I also heard the word change, where is that?.

Obama is in the White House for the agenda of the biggest smoke screen, to fool the world. The American Political system is dead. The American economy is dead, the Republic is dead, Britain Kill you along with this phoney Israeli policy to fool the entire world has killed America.

Rich Americans are losing their homes, the poor never had a chance anyway, and the Middle classes are limping towards a new age of join the impoverished poor.

But they don't have to worry their great Jewish God Britain will save you while they can't even save themselves.

The great American dream will plunge you into Famine, and disease, and the stupid Fundamentalist Christians, will say it's God punnishing them, God has nothing to do with it, it's called peoples foolishness. And their trust in Men like themselves who are prone to tell lies, to promote themselves like Obama, with his bottom up idea to fool Blacks to get them out to vote for nothing but more homelessness and hopelessness, and poverty, while they bail out the rich Bankers.

While all this is going on, the Government Bailout the rich Bankers so the Rich can get access to their money, to move it to Asia and else where, before the whole American economy goes into a downward spin out of control. Then in comes the people behind the economical FRAUD of all times.

Vreating armies of homeless people and jobless people, and armies of hungry people, then it's time to die for your misfortunes. Those who thought they were about to be Raptured off somewhere, will find them selves in FEMA gas ovens, compliments of your own stupidity.

Like Germany and the Berlin Wall, Israel has done exactly the same things, the prison camps the death camps, the mass murder, and yes there is worse to come, the supporters of her crimes will suffer the same fate. The war criminals that is still being chased across the globe. Israel is a mirror reflection of Nazi Germany. Those who don't know has better find out what it is they support because it will affect everybody, with the exception of the very few. The ones who saw it coming.

Like the people who supported Hitler and the ones who supported Obama, one can say they were blinded, by their desire for change, the fact is the change you had hoped is not the one that's on offer. Politicans only play on the vonerable, the weak, and the ill informed.

British and Americans will they investments in homes and stocks become worthless, and the Job and businesses you had you could'nt give it away. And food prices reach to prices not even the rich can afford. And God has nothing to do with it, but the hand who took you homes and invent economic crashes to destroy nations and people. Don't look to the Government, these people are the ones who controles the American Political system. If politics could save you it would have happend years ago.

Obama is NOT against' releasing these photos. it is guaranteed every photo will be released at the order of a liberal minded judge. Obama can then say "What can I do? I didn't want them released but the judge ordered them turned over to the ACLU." Obama is running a huge CYA campaign and will use the courts as his cover. These photos will be released and will be published all over the world.

Big J| 5.14.09 @ 12:07PM

Obama, a pragmatist? We should be so lucky.

He simply moved out of the way and left the leaders to making the tough decisions during the pirate issue.

Same thing here. He had some top military commanders telling him he was going to get soldiers killed, so voila! Enter flip-flop.

I am afraid Stan is spot on, though. Look for a liberal judge to order the release. God help us and our troops.

By the way, foolish: your ridiculous rant was incoherent and, well, foolish.

Grzmlyk| 5.14.09 @ 12:55PM

It would be wonderful to see Obama grow up.

It would also be wonderful if war ceased to exist or Angelina Jolie wanted to date me.

The whole of his identity is so intertwined with his mindless and resentful ideology, I'd say the prognosis isn't good; a flash of self awareness would be like the collision of matter and anti-matter.

Grzmlyk| 5.14.09 @ 1:20PM

By the way, aptly-named Foolish, are you aware that your pet ferret has comandeered your keyboard?

stmichrick| 5.14.09 @ 2:15PM

'Thoughtful' is a modern media term for anything leftish or non Republican. I first became aware of this by listening to the Diane Rehm Show on NPR in DC.

After This Guy won the election, my only reason for optimism was that, if He is as bright as He is portrayed to be, maybe He is a quick study and will find reality and a sense of history in short order.

Wrong. All I see, after keeping Gates on the job and not bugging out of Iraq precipitously, is a studied attempt to change the language and institute socialism/fascism by other names.

This is going to be a long eight years.

Klabautermann| 5.14.09 @ 4:15PM

There is a disconnect between reality and the rhetoric coming from the Obama regime.
Like a college professor pontificating in front of a class of open mouthed students perhaps with tingles going up their legs, Obama spouts his nonsense without fear of contradiction. Remember that at some time during the day, July 3, 2008, there was “the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal.”
Andrew Cline closes his article with the comment that the regime’s recent pragmatic moves might be isolated incidents. But he hopes that they signal a change in approach.
Yes. Hope and Change. That’s it. Now lets all sing Kumbaya.

james23| 5.14.09 @ 4:41PM

As I understand it, Obama did not 'decide not to release.' Rather, he instructed his DOJ to make a new argument in a lawsuit that has already been lost at the Court of Appeals level. Of course, he could reclassify the photos under FOIA and obviate render the lawsuit moot. But why would he want to do that? He wants to be able to say: "I didn't do this, the Court did it, and I did what I could to prevent the Court."

I think our author has been punked.

Nick| 5.14.09 @ 5:23PM

Grzmlyk,

"Wonderful" is not the word I would use to describe a date with Angelina Jolie. "Frightening" is more like it. She is one nasty skank.

All Obama is doing is spraying himself with Pam. He doesn't want anything to stick to him. That's why he submitted a stimulus that cost half as much as what he signed-Pelosi and Reid will take the blame when it doesn't work. He's just trying to keep his image clean so he doesn't lose the power he's attained. It's the Alinsky model. Why do you think he voted "present" so many times?

S.L. Toddard| 5.15.09 @ 2:21PM

Here's what Obama is concealing, per a 2005 article in Editor and Publisher (link at bottom):

Last year a Republican senator conceded that they contained scenes of "rape and murder" and Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld said they included acts that were "blatantly sadistic."

…What is shown on the photographs and videos from Abu Ghraib prison that the Pentagon has blocked from release? One clue: Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld told Congress last year, after viewing a large cache of unreleased images, "I mean, I looked at them last night, and they're hard to believe." They show acts "that can only be described as blatantly sadistic, cruel and inhumane," he added.

.A Republican Senator suggested the same day they contained scenes of "rape and murder."

The photos were among thousands turned over by the key "whistleblower" in the scandal, Specialist Joseph M. Darby. Just a few that were released to the press sparked the Abu Ghraib abuse scandal last year, and the video images are said to be even more shocking.

…To get a sense of what may be shown in these images, one has to go back to press reports from when the Abu Ghraib abuse scandal was still front page news.

This is how CNN reported it on May 8, 2004, in a typical account that day:

…"'The American public needs to understand we're talking about rape and murder here. We're not just talking about giving people a humiliating experience,' Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina told reporters after Rumsfeld testified before the Senate Armed Services Committee. 'We're talking about rape and murder -- and some very serious charges.'

"A report by Maj. Gen. Antonio Taguba on the abuse at the prison outside Baghdad says videotapes and photographs show naked detainees, and that groups of men were forced to masturbate while being photographed and videotaped. Taguba also found evidence of a 'male MP guard having sex with a female detainee.'

"Rumsfeld told Congress the unrevealed photos and videos contain acts 'that can only be described as blatantly sadistic, cruel and inhuman.'"

The military later screened some of the images for lawmakers, who said they showed, among other things, attack dogs snarling at cowed prisoners, Iraqi women forced to expose their breasts, and naked prisoners forced to have sex with each other.

In the same period, reporter Seymour Hersh, who helped uncover the scandal, said in a speech before an ACLU convention: "Some of the worse that happened that you don't know about, ok? Videos, there are women there. Some of you may have read they were passing letters, communications out to their men ... . The women were passing messages saying 'Please come and kill me, because of what's happened.'

"Basically what happened is that those women who were arrested with young boys/children in cases that have been recorded. The boys were sodomized with the cameras rolling. The worst about all of them is the soundtrack of the boys shrieking that your government has. They are in total terror it's going to come out."

http://www.editorandpublisher.com/eandp/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1001218842

These are just frat pranks, right? And besides, in a Constitutional Republic it is right and proper for the government to operate in extreme secrecy, and only let the public in on their doings when it reflects positively on them, right?

Any self-respecting American who believes in the Rule of Law should demand the photographs be release and the prosecution of those who ordered or allowed this torture and of Obama for obstruction of justice or violations of the Convention Against Torture.

Oldefarte| 5.15.09 @ 4:58PM

To S.L.: As I previously asked you, is this comparable to atrocities committed against our military soldiers in ALL wars that the US has been a participant; WHY are you questioning your [supposedly] country's wartime actions; are you a traitor to your country and/or a sympathizer of our enemies? As to Kline's proposition that Obama is a pragmatist, the answer to that would be akin to THE COW JUMPED OVER THE MOON. Obama and his liberal loons are simply acting out a PROTECT YOUR A** philosophy----he/they have finally been convinced that, if the photos are released and result in inflaming the radical Muslims against our soldiers and/or our civilians, that they [Obama and Democrats] will be held accountable and be made to pay a huge political price for INCITING A RIOT, so to speak [remember the Swedish cartoonists that eventually feared for their lives for making/drawing fun of Mohammed?]. most Democrats, and all liberals, are simply BOMB THROWERS [in Bill Ayers fashion] that hurl their riduculous assertions into a crowd and then retreat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

S.L. Toddard| 5.15.09 @ 6:47PM

"As I previously asked you, is this comparable to atrocities committed against our military soldiers in ALL wars that the US has been a participant;"

Yes. War crimes are war crimes, even when they are committed by the U.S., according to U.S. and international law.

"WHY are you questioning your [supposedly] country's wartime actions;"

I am questioning my government's actions, as should any good American - it is our patriotic duty to do so. And that it is "wartime" is irrelevant:

"No exceptional circumstances whatsoever, whether a *state of war* or a threat or war, internal political instability or any other public emergency, may be invoked as a justification of torture"

- Convention Against Torture

"are you a traitor to your country and/or a sympathizer of our enemies?"

On the contrary. Here is the definition of "treason" in the Constitution (and note the use of "them" to refer to the free, independent, sovereign and United States):

"Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort"

By demanding we hold our own leaders accountable under the law, by demanding that the Rule of Law be upheld, we *deny* aid and comfort to our enemies. It is those who demand we torture, who demand that elite lawbreakers not be held accountable, who "give aid" to our enemies, as they are working to turn the United States into the very monster our enemies claim us to be - each atrocity, each war crime committed, each time we proclaim that Law is only for lesser countries damages our security and strengthens our enemies. Indeed, it is those who demand that our elite political leaders are bound by no laws, those who demand that war crimes committed by the United States go unpunished - those who assault the Rule of Law - it is they who are "levying War against" these United States, as they are attacking the very bedrock of the American way of life - our Constitution, the support and defense of which is the First duty of our president, Congress and military - against "all enemies, foreign *and domestic*".

Does that describe you? Are you a domestic enemy of the Constitution? Or do you respect and honor it, and demand that the laws enshrined within it be obeyed, and that any who violate them - who *do damage* to the Constitution - be held accountable?

There is no middle ground. You either believe our government is bound by the Constitution or you are an *enemy* of the Constitution.

If you are *not* an enemy of the Constitution, then you will agree, surely, that per Article 6 of the Constitution we are bound by the Convention Against Torture, signed by President Reagan and quoted above, which defines torture as ""Any act by which severe pain or suffering, whether physical or mental, is intentionally inflicted on a person for such purposes as obtaining from him or a third person information or a confession", and mandates - *mandates* investigation and prosecution of *allegations* of torture. Do you support investigations?

Or are you a domestic enemy of the Constitution?

As I said - there is no middle ground.

Did not Sadaam Hussein invade Kuwait BEFORE the US drove his army back to Iraq? Who is the perpetraitor/aggressor in this war with terrorists? In the Vietman War, did not the Viet Cong cut off our dead soldiers testicles, gouge out their eyeballs, cut off ears, etc of our dead GI's? In this war, do not the Muslim terrorist burn, decapitate, and hang the bodies of our dead soldiers? In WWII, did not the Japanese extract the fingernails and toenails of their emprisoned GI's? In WWII, did not the US rescue Europe from the throes of Nazi Germany and Hitler? Why are you and your liberal kind constantly finding fault with the US, instead of its enemies? Is your constant referance to our Constitution and laws just a coverup for your desire to destroy this country? Why do you never question or fault our enemies [Germany, Japan, Vietnam, and now radical Muslim terrorists]. Do you consider their incidiary mutulation of 3000 innocent Americans on 9/11 justified? Are you in fact a traitor, an enemy sympathizer, or possibly a sleeper cell terrorist yourself; since your favortism obviously were/are with our enemies and not with your own country?????

I just start bouncing off the wall with these liberal morons and their use of thing such as our Constitution as a weapon against this country, and are in my opinion directly responsible for our 18+ year old kids dying in Iraq and Afganistan now. These traitors/domestic terrorists have no doubt been planted here to harrass, intimidate and destroy us and our country, while marching lock-step to the words/actions of HIS HOLINESS. Today, Lanny Davis [lawyer, former Clinton administration official and lonney toon liberal] announced his opinion that Cheney should be indited for his responsibility over waterboarding/torture methods used by our military. The lunacy of it is astounding! If anyone should be indited, it should be the Clinton Administration for downsizing our military and spy agencies during his term[1994-2000], and thereby making this country more vulnerable to future terrorists' attacks. The result of their downsizing actions facilitated the first WTC bombing, the USS Cole bombing, several of our foreign embassies being bombed, and of course 9/11/01 [and the deaths/slaughters of 3000 innocent Americans]. Davis is a typical liberal nincompoot, and a FOOL besides. I don't agree that these imbiciles should be given free rein to spew their hatred of America----if anything they should be tried under law for treasonous activities, in some extreme cases!!!!!!!!!!

Hi back Oldfarte
I was not "getting you".
We simply must not let these children provoke us into indescretions.
They are counting on us to "react" in a way that trundles us off to jail, or re-education. (Alinsky)
It is coming sir. Do not doubt it if they can pull it off.
We need your voice, and your insight. Never forget they are copying your posts to build a "case" against you...and all of us free Americans.

Instead of reacting to the little trolls, let's use their idiocy as a stepping stone to recognizing the fallacies and lies they throw out, and defeat them with wisdom.
Best regards

“WHAT IN HELL do you think that our military has been doing in the Middle East, fool”

Ostensibly they are fighting to defend the Constitution of the United States, which you are urging us all to “forget”. You are literally demanding Americans FORGET what our soldiers are sworn to support and defend. You should be ASHAMED. You are no American.

“If you weren't so LIBERAL and STUPID,”

Liberal? Who’s a liberal?

“you'd attempt to answer the numerous questions that I previously asked of you”

Wrong. Only a stupid person would answer (or ask, for that matter) such idiotic and irrelevant questions. You believe that because the Terrorists are evil and struck first we should abandon our Constitution and way of life – you and the terrorists have the same goal.

Congratulations, traitor.

“I have to continue. Ole' SL has obviously never benn in a "killin' fight". He wouldn't know "neccessity" if it bit him in the arse. He sits comfortably behind his computer and spouts off wonderful sounding "cum bayah".”

Oh my, the ol' “Kumbaya” tactic. Misspelled, too. Hahaha.

“To him, (her?) a soldier in the field must carry around a card with Miranda rights...to read to a declared murderer before blowing the murderer away.”

Straw man. Do you know what a “straw man” is? Wikipedia defines it thusly: “A straw man argument is an informal fallacy based on misrepresentation of an opponent's position.[1] To "attack a straw man" is to create the illusion of having refuted a proposition by substituting a superficially similar proposition (the "straw man"), and refuting it, without ever having actually refuted the original position”

This last – ahem – “point” you “made” was a classic straw man. I have never said nor have I implied anything about soldier’s behaviors on the battlefield. You really are terrible at this.

“Sorry, Oldfarte, but SL and his/her ilk will always be "saved" by one of us. That is the way it has always been and should not be a surprise.”

Great Scott – a neocon chickenhawk with delusions of grandeur. How clichéd.

“I just start bouncing off the wall with these liberal morons”

Oh my. Are you still in grade school? Do you even know what a “liberal” is? I am no more “liberal” than Barry Goldwater.

“and their use of thing such as our Constitution as a weapon against this country”

It is a weapon for the People to wield against Tyranny. A weapon you, apparently, would like to see unloaded and locked away, far from the reaches of the People. That Constitution is our bulwark against tyranny and fascism, and yet to you and your kind insist we all “forget” it, that we neuter and immasculate it, that we render it a dead letter, that we no longer hold our government in check with it. You reject – in your own words – the very idea of America itself. You should at least have the courage to admit the fact to yourself – you do not share the ideals of the Founders. You reject the Rule of Law and the American way of life. You want Americans to disregard the founding document of the United States, which our soldiers and President are sworn to defend.

If all Americans were like you, then truly – and literally – the Terrorists will have won. And I fear the day will come to pass, when the wildest dreams of the Terrorists and Traitors like yourself will come true – when Americans will just “forget” about the Constitution and no longer hold their government to its principles and law, as the Founders intended. You and your ideological brethren in Al Qaeda will have won. I hope you enjoy it.

Okay SLIMEBALL. LIMPWRIST. TURDOCOUS["Only a stupid person would answer (or ask, for that matter) such idiotic and irrelevant questions. You believe that because the Terrorists are evil and struck first we should abandon our Constitution and way of life – you and the terrorists have the same goal"], let me explain to you WHY you and other liberal-terrorists are using our CONSTITUTION as a weapon against this country, and why you did a similar thing in the 1960's-'70 over the Vietnam War. You [as all of us do] hate war, but you are incapable of seeing the occasional necessity [unfortionately] of same, ie against the fanatical despot Hitler and his extremist Germany; and [presently] against these religiously radical Muslim terrorists. You think that unlimited political negotiations with insane fanatical political leaders will eventually get them to be converted to the just cause, and that war is never necessary; and that initiators are cruel perpatrators. You do not accept the fact that you will never get a despot ruler/country to become rational no matter how hard you negotiate. You believe that a country's legal documents/constitutions are bibles of sorts, never to be disagreed with [except of course unless it fits your liberal point of view, ie liberal court judges that INTREPRET laws instead of REPORTING what laws state]. You are using our Constitution to wage political war against the Bush Administration and Republicans as a GOTCHA for their attempts to impeach Clinton [political payback]; and are thereby tarnishing the reputations, dedication, and patriotism of our military members who are sacrificing their lives and limbs in order to protect the freedom[guaranteed by our Constitution] of idiots like you. You don't care about the Constitution----it is just a means to an end for you to attack Bush, Cheney and Republicans. The insanity and stupidity of your political position is that these Muslim terrorists hate [and want to kill] you and other liberals more than they do us conservatives; since liberalism represent the unlimited freedoms of sexual perversion [ie Hollywood actors and their idiotic movies, sexual perversions, etc], thought [ie liberal teaching of most university professors], and action [the drug culture of hippydom]. If you morons could bring your enemies [Bush,Cheney,Rumsfield and the Republican Party] into a court of law and convict same of some bogus offense, your imbicilic ramblings about the Constitution would fade into dismemory and never be heard of again. Tell the TRUTH [and start by getting Pilosi to do likewise] about what your ultimate goal is, and stop using our Constitution as a bomb/missle against us [as your comrades did on 9/11/01]!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

S.L. Toddard| 5.18.09 @ 9:01PM

"You are using our Constitution to wage political war against the Bush Administration and Republicans as a GOTCHA for their attempts to impeach Clinton"

How moronic. I was not "against" the Clinton impeachment. And a torture investigation will implicate leading Democrats beyond a doubt, as will an investigation into the illegal domestic spying program, as they were fully complicit in both and should be held accountable as well. President Obama is now violating the Convention Against Torture himself by suppressing evidence of torture and should be impeached as well.

I'm not even sure why I'm responding, to be honest. It's like arguing with a mentally retarded ape. You don't even know in which direction to fling your feces and make your ook-ook-ook sounds. Go get yourself a banana.

Oldefarte| 5.19.09 @ 1:29PM

Okay, SLIMEBALL LIBERAL, stick your banana up your homosexual backside and moronically describe it as "TORTURE" [even an ape would have the mental capacity to understand that waterboarding is NOT torture, fool]. What's wrong, did your mommie spank you too hard as a child and now you're attempting MOMMIE DEAREST payback moment against our nation and our military. Hopefully, you idiot [in the spirit of Wanda Sykes' political tirade against Rush Limbaugh and his kidneys], when the Muslim terrorists again strike this country, you and your relatives will not become victims of what REAL TORTURE [as did the 3000 of 9/11/01] truly is. In the meantime, go take your copy of the constitution and put it under your pillow [or shove it WHERE THE SUN DON'T SHINE]-----maybe the tooth-fairy will bring you a quarter!!!!!!!
