Frum Right to Wrong

Excuse me, Mr. Obama, what about science and global warming?
-- Ira M. Kessel

VOTE IN THE OPEN, WHERE THE DESPOT CAN SEE YOU
Re: Doug Bandow's Card Check's Bounce:

Brown shirts...unions, gangs, social clubs, each has a purpose. When government wants to sponsor a group it too has a goal.

Any student of history knows that secret voting is crucial along with an honest counting of ballots. Mess with this system and tyranny is thy name, despotism is thy game.

Ergo, Obama the Despot!
-- R.P.
New Mexico

GLOBAL WARMING TAX
Re: G. Tracy Mehan, III's Has Obama Killed Carbon Cap and Trade?

"A revenue neutral carbon tax." Only a lawyer who was a former employee of the Environmental Protection Agency and who worked for either or both of the Bushes would think that phrase made any sense.

Question for Mr. Mehan: In the entire history of our republic, has the federal government ever levied a tax on anything that remained "revenue neutral" for long?

No, I didn't think so.
-- Keith Kunzler

IT DOESN'T TAKE A NUCLEAR SCIENTIST
Re: William Tucker's How Nuclear Will Revive:

Tucker states that "The TVA just built a new reactor at Watts Bar in three years and under budget, using a license granted in the 1970s."

I find no verification of this. Apparently, Watts Bar One was constructed from 1983 to 1996 and was the last US reactor to go on-line. In 2007, TVA announced plans to press ahead with Watts Bar Two using the 1970 permit. Construction is estimated to be complete in 2013. I think I got this from the NRC website and from Wikipedia (I always check the Wiki info).

Nice article, though. Nuke power is the only way we will get enough energy for this country on an economically reasonable basis in the mid- and far-term. If the Yucca Mt. waste repository is approved, that should handle at least some of the waste. The real problem is fear-mongering. And maybe physical construction. I've read that a Japanese steel mill is the only place in the world that can build a needed core component (40 ft diameter spheroid?), and they have a 4 year backlog.

When will we as a nation wake up? Keep prodding us!
-- R.C. Ghormley

AMBITION
Re: R. Emmett Tyrrell, Jr.'s Missing Bill:

I, for one, never thought I would look back on the Clinton years as the good ol' days, but The Boy President was looking only to "not have sex with" one woman; The One is looking to screw us all!
-- Ira M. Kessel
Rochester, New York

Government is on autopilot. What we have now is government without the by-your-leave of the governed.

Chas Krauthammer wrote years ago that stem cell benefits wont be available until mid 21st century; such a timeframe would have left little hope for Reeves.
for Krauthammer (who is in a wheelchair) there is hope, but not for someone with the severe (to say the least) condition Reeves was in, no.

btw say what they will about Rush, at least HE doesn't waste time with Toffler, as Newt does.

Alan Brooks| 3.13.09 @ 9:34PM

Rush is "irrational"? what about Toffler? i've read ALL those books, every word; it is, as Rich Brookhiser wrote "Marxism for computer geeks". clairvoyance sans crystal ball... tarot without cards.

That Democratic Presidents are despotic and don't tolerate different opinions is, quite unfortunately, a fact. Thank God there is still an amendment preventing a President from staying in office more than 8 years: try to imagine 80 years with Clinton or Obama!
