Such an unconscionable act should cause the electorate to scream for term limits in both houses. The argument that "we can vote them out" is specious in that election rules and laws have been changed by the Congress to ensure that no incumbent (except perhaps Senator Burris) can be replaced by the popular vote. We must go back to a Senate where the members are appointed by the states and a constitutional amendment is must be passed to outlaw gerrymandering in any form, for any federal office; particularly the house of non-representatives.
Finally, I would like to see Senator Burris defy the crooked
members of congress and stay in office as long as he can, voting
with the opposition on every bill coming before the
senate. He would go down in history as a major agent for
change, in a rigged system!

LONG RETURN TRIP
Re: J.T. Young's
Republicans Return to Fiscal Conservatism:
Republicans are consigned to eternal oblivion because they lack leadership and principles to distinguish them from their ostensible opponents. They are Democrats a generation late, which is why they get no respect. Everyone knows that they will capitulate to liberalism, statism, and socialism but just are not hip enough to board the train when it arrives at the station. So we find them a few years later racing down the tracks trying to catch the tax and spend express with as much fervor as the real thing already riding in the luxury Pullman.
After the disgraceful way in which they governed and legislated during their 10 years in power their credibility is forever vanquished. But the reason for their abandonment of constitutional first principles is because the leftist vision is imprinted on every law, text book, and news channel in the nation. There is no one who can articulate a jeremiad against big government, high taxes, the Federal Reserve or any other instrument of statist expansive government. Republicans are not equipped with the intellectual tools or convictions to support limited government, sound money, and modest defense. If those were ever the ideals of Republicans they were discarded long ago.
If Republicans utter objections to obamafication it is only one of degree -- not of kind. If Republicans return to fiscal conservatism it is merely a token of an abandoned belief and a realpolitik of Machiavellian impulse rather than of core belief. I have explained elsewhere that it is impossible to create a conservative majority when 50% of Americans pay no net taxes and when educational institutions are fundamentally Marxist and redistributionist. The intellectual capital to fight these systems is unavailable to future republican leaders. Thus they have been absorbed and neutralized with no more substantive value than an appendix.
Fiscal conservatism is a mirage in any event. Every politician knows that taxes are not required to increase spending. When the taxing option is not viable there is the foreigner and the bond market via the Treasury Department and Federal Reserve to obtain larger chunks of American wealth and income. So the fiscal conservative talks out of one side of his mouth about holding the limit on taxes yet out of the other side speaks no evil against creating money out of thin air to accomplish the same goal of increased take of the economy.
There is absolutely no substantive difference between a
Republican and a Democrat. It is merely illusion or a matter of
time. In the end we are all socialized whether we like it or
not.

FACT CHECK
Re: Peter Ferrara's
Repeal Health Care Fascism:
I am an independent voter. I just finished reading Peter
Ferrara's piece on the proposed health care reform by President
Obama. I would be more open to Mr. Ferrara's arguments if they
included specific examples and avoided contentious partisanship.
For example, in referencing former Senator Tom Daschle, Mr.
Ferrara reported that he "failed to pay ALL of his federal income
taxes." This is an inflammatory statement, slanderous, and
incorrect based upon media reports elsewhere. I almost stopped
reading right there as I assumed that the entire piece was likely
a fabrication based upon the writer's beliefs. Whether you like
him or not, Daschle did pay some of his taxes. It was
specifically the taxes related to his car and driver that he did
not pay. This was reported by several media sources. Are
all those other reports incorrect? Is so, Mr. Ferrara, tell me
why and give me the facts. You presume the reader is stupid with
such statements.

HONOR BETRAYED
Re: James Bowman's Sean Penn's
'Milk':
I read James Bowman's book Honor: a History, and thought -- here's a man who understands virtue, the life of meaning and the importance of virtue, integrity and commitment to tradition.
Then he writes this silly little review of the movie about Harvey Milk, a twerp if there ever was one.
Milk was a creep, the movie is creepy, Bowman has been living around and tolerating homosexuals too long.
Tolerance is the sentiment of a dying culture or a man with no honor.

Happened again... reading a thoughtful comment and said to meself, "self, sounds like David Bonn again." Scrolled down, and, yup. Thoughtful and well done; Mr. Molyneaux too. Good work, gents. A great way to start the day (along with that Santos coffee from Brazil).

Finally, with Jindal we have a leader on the national stage, not an empty styrofoam Greek column Obama poser.
Bobby Jindal is one of a very few truly brilliant people who have ideas that work and have proven to do so. He has more smarts in his socks than Obama has in his pretend sentimental idiotic "dreams."
Jindal is a man of principle, not politics; a man with an ethical and moral center, not "above my pay grade" - "I screwed up" - "I won" pureile whining; a leader, not a facilitator; a person of action, not staging; someone who believes in the power of America and Americans, not the power of government; a man of purpose, not empty promise.
Bobby Jindal has actually served the America he leads, not just taken from it for personal gain.
Jindal and other young Republicans such as Cantor and Ryan finally give me some real hope.
Obama couldn't lead a dog to a fire hydrant, but he can put dogs in a "study group" and teach them to bark.
Jindal is real, a leader who has proven himself through his actions, someone we can actually trust and someone who delivers, not the solipsistic pathetic frat brat elitist race baiting welfare Chicago thug wind blower we now must endure.
I didn't listen to Obambi's speech because he never says ANYTHING anyone can trust - NO SUBSTANCE, just dissembling equivocation. Obobo's a master of deceit, but I did listen to Jindal because he not only speaks with substance, he delivers it. Jidal is a real man with a passion to serve his country, not just himself.

Hey, I'm first to admit, I know less than nothing about computer-speak (was probably two years before I found out what that stupid "LOL" meant; no loss), but, who or what is this Pingback, huh?
Fragments of stuff, relating to what (Obama's health/food?), I sure don't know... and I'm not any too inclined to investigate. Superfluous wasted space? Probably not. Yet, if anyone can offer some kind of explaination, okay. Otherwise, I'll just blithefully skip on by, thank you...

pingback marks articles for the web. like if you type in "frost, amspec", it will be marked as per certain articles.
or so i'm told.
i only know what i'm told.
frost| 2.26.09 @ 12:20PM
That's what I mean... "amspec?"
And, "will be marked" -- for what?
There again, I have 850-some different folders in my computer thingy, all kinds of subjects......
Used to keep notes on a variety of topics as proof, or to be able to offer substantiation when I was doing call-in talk shows on radio stations a few years ago, a habit I continue to continue, even though I have no idea of ever suspending a joyous "retirement" -- the computer makes it easier to "file" - - - IF I'm able to remember what I filed stuff under.....

Page 51 of "Atlas Shrugged" seems to illustrate a lot of the problems we have today: the wimpy lack-of-guts/courage, and (ugly) ability to rationalize 'way too much while "blaming the other guy." Then, get the government involved for "fairness" and you have Terminal Political Correctness -- and the book was written 50-some years ago, published in '57. Kinda like Orwell, ahead of her time - - and we have not yet bugun to pay (much less even recognize) the price(s) we'll be paying. It's goin' to get baaaad, and I fear that there's not a hell-of-a-lot we can do about it -- we're simply outnumbered by neo-Marxists and those who demand "Something for Nothing." It's sick.
Todd| 2.26.09 @ 4:31PM
Christian Jordal,
You seem to lack a basic understanding of the english language in misunderstanding what "he failed to pay all of his taxes" means. Mr. Ferrara did not say Daschle did not pay any of his taxes, just that he did not pay ALL OF HIS TAXES which his sweet ride around corruption riddled DC fell under. This is a relatively simple concept that anyone with a beginning reading comprehension level show understand. Mr. Ferrara does not presume his readers to be stupid but you certainly showed yourself to be so. I don't really buy that you are an independent voter either but I do get the impression that many so-called independent voters lack basic intelligence and are easily manipulated so you may very well fall in that category.
Todd| 2.26.09 @ 4:36PM
Should understand not show, sorry. At least I can realize my mistake and correct it though I will make sure to proofread before posting again.
