Time has moved on. It is no longer the age of an unchallenged mainstream media. Every political and media figure on the American left who advocates a McGovern-style defeat in Iraq will, this time, be held to account for the results in endless hours of looped video tape that plays and replays their strident words alongside images of the bloody benchmarks of what history suggests will be a decidedly false and murderous peace.
One can wish George McGovern well on his 85th birthday. But the real-life consequences of McGovernism, which in fact go far beyond one elderly former Senator, should never be forgotten.
What better day to annually remember the murderous consequences of a McGovern Peace -- and to apologize for it bloody benchmark by bloody benchmark -- than July 19th, the birthday of the man who helped make it all possible?
