Snooping for Diversity

Snoop ‘n Fetchit has a cause.

Snoop ‘n Fetchit has a cause.

The one time pimp and all time gangsta rap icon—“Calvin Broadus” on his birth certificate, “Snoop” to his friends, “The Doggfather” to his fans, “Snoop Doggy Dogg” back in his hip hop heyday in the 1990s, and “Snoop ‘n Fetchit” to anyone with a historical perspective on his thuggish Snoop Dogg persona — has quit his gig as host of the Girls Gone Wild video series, a soft porn compilation of amateur clips which feature young women baring their breasts in public and occasionally engaging in simulated sex acts.

The reason?

According to Snoop ‘n Fetchit, the videos lack diversity. “If you notice, there hasn’t been no girls of (ethnicity) at all on none of those tapes,” he told the Associated Press. “No black girls, no Spanish girls. All white girls, and that sh— ain’t cool, because white girls ain’t the only hoes that get wild.”

He’s surely correct on that last point. Even a cursory glance at Black Entertainment Television’s typical afternoon line up of music video programs will provide a heaping helping of women of color empowering themselves by bouncing their backsides and spreading their haunches in rhythmic tribute to potty-mouthed male rappers.

Apparently, Snoop ‘n Fetchit has been catching an earful from the sistahs for the less than colorful GGW series. “They’ve been complaining to me like crazy. They think I like the white girls because I’m on there with them, and I don’t. I just did that for money.”

But not to worry. Snoop ‘n Fetchit is now planning to produce his own version of GGW that will feature black and Hispanic women in order to “bring some flavor to the table.”

And not a moment too soon … rumor has it the Supreme Court was about to step in.
