Hispanic Democrats look ahead. Plus: A GOP Northeast (no kidding).

There is further fallout from Democratic National Committee
chairman
Terry McAuliffe
's seeming uninterest in
keeping his Hispanic voter base happy. As the Prowler reported on
Tuesday
,
members of the DNC's Hispanic Caucus have been upset at the party's
ignoring Hispanic voters (i.e. refusing to pony up money in support
of Hispanic voter outreach). McAuliffe has basically responded to
these concerns by ignoring them. Now comes word that the Hispanic
Caucus has put forth a resolution calling on McAuliffe to appoint
New Mexico Gov.
Bill Richardson
as chairman of the
2004 National Convention to be held in Boston.

"McAuliffe probably thinks that's a good idea," says a DNC
staffer who has not seen the resolution. "Our governors have been
getting a higher profile anyway. This kind of thing makes
sense."
Richardson, for his part, would probably jump at the
opportunity. Apparently in New Mexico, one of the most corrupt
states in the union, the governor doesn't have much to do. Just
Wednesday Richardson announced opening a new investigation... into
who really killed Billy the Kid.
